  • Using open source SNES emulator code to turn a rom file into a self-contained executable game

    Would it be possible to take the source code from a SNES emulator (or any other game system emulator for that matter) and a game ROM for the system, and somehow create a single self-contained executable that lets you play that particular ROM without needing either the individual rom or the emulator itself to play? Would it be difficult, assuming you've already got the rom and the emulator source code to work with?

  • segfault when cd-ing into certain directories in bash

    I have noticed this very strange behavior recently. After cd into certain directories, I get a segfault on the terminal. --- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) @ 0 (0) --- --- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) @ 0 (0) --- +++ killed by SIGSEGV (core dumped) +++ segmentation fault (core dumped) I proceeded to strace a bash session in which I cd into the target directory, and was able to reproduce the problem. I attached the log to this pastebin: I paste below the few lines from the read of "cd stumpwm", which is the directory in question, until the segfault.   • Help remembering name of boot CD (maybe it wasn't a live CD)

    I am struggling to remember the name of a boot CD I have since lost the disc for. It was great for cloning discs, and resetting passwords. It's NOT the UBCD4Win, and it defos wasn't Knoppix. I have checked the LiveCD list and can't seem to find it there by doing a 'sort by'. I seem to remember it was called something like GS Tools but that might be more or less completely wrong. It had an unusual but memorable name. Makes me wonder how I came across it in the first place!

When I try to do it on gParted, it seems that the options are disabled because of the disk is mounted and it cannot be unmounted because of I am using it in the system. I wish to create a new partition without removing or affecting the file system; just creating a new partition, but without the need to use a Live CD or USB. ¿Es posible crear una partición estando en el sistema? Ya que cuando lo intento desde GParted, al parecer están desactivadas las opciones porque la unidad está montada y no se puede desmontar ya que estoy usando el sistema.   • Fixing windows MBR without Vista Recovery CD

    I had Windows Vista + Ubuntu running on my system. I deleted the ubuntu partitions from Windows. However, when I start the system, GRUB throws up an Error 22 (missing partition) and does not let me boot into Windows. The CD ROM on my laptop is fried and therefore I tried installing Ubuntu again using a USB install. However, the version Ubuntu 9.10 justs hangs in the load screen and does nothing. I do not have windows Vista Recovery CD (as it was a recovery partition in my laptop). What are the options I have? How do I fix this?

    Hi folks, i'm trying to rip a CD using Windows Media Player 11 on XP ... and the destination folder is in the ALBUM NAME. Now, i can't see HOW it can rip to a new folder, named after the album. As far as I can tell, it's named by the Artist Name .. which sorta sucks for me. So, is there a way I can rip a CD with WMP11 that puts the songs into a new/existing folder which is the name of the Album? cheers :)

    Possible Duplicate: Using cd Command in Windows Command Line, Can’t Navigate to D:\ Look at the latter lines of the shell, the cd lines. Nothing's happening :( This is the Win8 shell. I used to have Win7 on C:\, and have since installed Win8 on D:. As you can see, the prompt is in C:\, and so I'm trying to move it to D:\ where it should be. And nothing's happening. How can I change the directory? (Bonus points to anyone who can tell be how to change the default shell directory.

    I have installed 6 DVD writers in Tower case. I am using Alcohol Software to burn multiple CDS. I have seen that about 4 dvd/cd writer finish recording early but some take long time finish and their speed is around 7x. Its not that those are the only writers doing that, some times other writer write slowly. But there are always 1 or 2 writer which takes about 25 min to write the 700Mb cd and some finish in 5 mins Why is that. All writers can write upto 40px speed. Which thing determines the speed

    A few years back, I saw an open-source application that created fault-tolerant, multi-CD backup sets. The thought was that if a few sectors went bad on one CD, the data could be reconstructed from others similar to a RAID 5 hard-drive setup. I did some searching and I could not find the application again. Does anyone know of a application that works in this manner. It needs to work with both CDs & DVDs. Linux or Windows will be OK.

  • Windows 7 CD Command only echoes directory

    The path for every new instance of the shell starts in my user directory (C:\Users\user). Within this directory or rather drive (in this case C:) I can't use the cd command as I'm used to - it only echoes the specified directory. As soon as I change the directory to a parent-directory I can execute "cd D:" and it changes to the drive. But this behavious doesn't appear consistently in all instances of the shell. Sometimes I have to go to C: to change it. I'm quite sure I'm not using the command in the wrong way, since it's what I'm used to do to start grails.

  • Live CD works OK. Is it OK to assume a new install will work?

    I've got a Toshiba a505 laptop and tried the live CD with great results. However, I haven't found any reports on this PC working 100% OK on Ubuntu 10.10 yet. I do have seen (and tried installing myself) some reports that 10.04 didn't work (without some dirty hacking). In regular circumstances, is it OK to assume that a new install will work if the live CD works? Are there any tools I can run to check compatibility? Thanks!

  • Assembling Software RAID in Live CD for data recovery

    I need help recovering some data that's on my RAID which is on a LVM on my server running Ubuntu. What happened was I deleted the logical volume that controlled my swap space which was on a partition on drives sda2, sdb2, sdc2, and sdd2 in RAID1. This foobared my whole system for one reason or another. Booting leave me with grub rescue and an error saying that it is an unknown filesystem. When I boot to a live cd I can see my RAID arrays and I can even start them up. However, it doesn't appear to mount them anywhere so I can't see the data. I am in the live cd now and I have done sudo apt-get install mdadm lvm2 so it should be mounting them correctly. I just can't see why it wouldn't. Please any help is appreciated here. Here is some output. I put the cd in the cdrom and in the software repositories i checked the box install from cd(Ubuntu 10.10 release Maverick Meerkat). Then i reloaded the software repositories. The synaptic manager then tried to download some repository related files but failed to do so as i didn't have internet connection. Then i open a terminal and wrote "sudo apt-get install build-essential". It prompted me if i want to install build essential y/N. I typed y but the terminal showed some errors and was not installed. I also tried to add the CD in the software repositories. I clicked add and it prompted me to insert a CD while the CD was still inside the cdrom. I clided "ok" then and it showed it could not find any cd. What is wrong ?
