Button Onclick event (which is in codbehind) doesn't get triggered in MVC 2

I had an MVC 1.0 web application that was in VS 2008; I just upgraded the project to VS 2010 which automatically upgraded MVC to 2.0. I have a bunch of viewpages have codebehind files that were manually added. The project worked fine before the upgrade, but now the onclick even't don't get triggered. I.e. I have an asp:button with an onclick event that points to a method in the codebehind. When you click the button, the onclick event doesn't get triggered. In fact, when you look at the Page variable, IsPostBack is false. This is really bizarre and I'm wondering if anyone know what happened and how to fix it. I'm thinking it has something to do with the changes in MVC 2.0; but I'm not sure. Any help is really appreciated, I've been trying to figure this out for a while. (deleting the codebehinds and moving that to the controller is not really an option since there is so many pages, moving back to vs 2008 is a last resort as I want to make use of some of the VS 2010 features like performance testing.)

How to implement a download for dynamic files in asp.net with masterpages

Hello, the title says it all. I have seen some similar questions on SO like this or this, but either i have overlooked something or my requirement is different, neither works. My situation is following: i have a Masterpage one of its contentpage is called MasterData.aspx MasterData has an asp.net ajax tabcontainer control with one usercontrol in every tabpanel these usercontrols(f.e. MD_Customer.ascx)hold the main content(like a normal page) they all have GridViews in it and i want to provide an Excel-Export-Button What i've tried is is to use an iframe like here. But the function that adds the iframe to the document gets never called and therefore i never see the save-as-dialog. Maybe this is caused by using a MasterPage. Does somebody has an idea on how to provide a button in an UpdatePanel that causes an async postback, so that i can generate a CSV dynamically in codebehind and write it to the response? Extra NotifyIcon shown in system tray

I'm having an issue with an app where my NotifyIcon displays an extra icon. The steps to reproduce it are easy, but the problem is that the extra icon shows up after any of the actual codebehind we've added fires. Put simply, clicking a button triggers execution of method FooBar() which runs all the way through fine but its primary duty is to fire a backgroundworker to log into another of our apps. It only appears if this particular button is clicked. Strangely enough, we have a WndProc method override and if I step through until the extra NotifyIcon appears, it always appears during this method so something else beyond the codebehind must be triggering the behavior. JavaScript Intellisense with Telerik in ASP.NET Master Page Project with VS 2010

Today I was looking for a solution to get finally the JScript/Javascript/jQuery Intellisense Featureworking with my ASP.Net Webform Project to work. I found some good articles: - JScript IntelliSense Overview- JScript IntelliSense: A Reference for the “Reference” Tag- Enabling JavaScript intellisense in VS.NET 2010 to work with SharePoint 2010- Rich IntelliSense for jQueryBUT, all of suggested solutions did not work right with my Master Page based Visual Studio 2010 Solution.Only with physical Javascript Files (Telerik includes certain Javascript Files like jQuery as Ressource) or/andconfigure always a new ASP.NET Scriptmanager / RadScriptManager on every page derived from the Master Page, wasn't exactly what I was looking for. Alternative way of developing for ASP.NET to WebForms - Any problems with this?

So I have been developing in ASP.NET WebForms for some time now but often get annoyed with all the overhead (like ViewState and all the JavaScript it generates), and the way WebForms takes over a lot of the HTML generation. Sometimes I just want full control over the markup and produce efficient HTML of my own so I have been experimenting with what I like to call HtmlForms. Essentially this is using ASP.NET WebForms but without the form runat="server" tag. Without this tag, ASP.NET does not seem to add anything to the page at all. From some basic tests it seems that it runs well and you still have the ability to use code-behind pages, and many ASP.NET controls such as repeaters. Of course without the form runat="server" many controls won't work. A post at Enterprise Software Development lists the controls that do require the tag. From that list you will see that all of the form elements like TextBoxes, DropDownLists, RadioButtons, etc cannot be used. Instead you use normal HTML form controls. But how do you access these HTML controls from the code behind? Retrieving values on post back is easy, you just use Request.QueryString or Request.Form. But passing data to the control could be a little messy. Do you use a ASP.NET Literal control in the value field or do you use <%= value % in the markup page? So my question is can you see any problems with this method, and any thoughts on it's usefulness? I have further details and tests on my blog.

Programatically loading user controls

Today's little problem is that I am trying to load user controls from my codebehind like so: Dim myControl As UserControl = Page.LoadControl("~\Modules\Content.ascx") Controls.Add(myControl) On running the page myControl is no where to be seen. I wonder why that is? Well after a bit of thought the following come to mind... Am I using the correct code to insert the usercontrol? Is there an alternative available? Does the fact that the usercontrol has a page_load method make a difference? Does the fact that the usercontrol is being called from the page_init method make a difference? Do I need to register the control in my aspx page at design time? I'll be looking to answer these questions as the day goes on!

Hi , i am a newbie at ASP.net and after using sqldatasource with a listview to insert and show results from an SQL server db i want to try using the LINQ datasource since it seems to be more flexible in codebehind. how to load wpf usercontrol in MVVM pattern

Hi, I'm creating a wpf user control which is in mvvm pattern. So we have : view(with no code in codebehind file), viewmodel,model,dataaccess files. I have MainWindow.xaml as a view file, which I need to bind with MainWindowModel.cs. Usually, in a a wpf application we can do this with onStartUp event in App.xaml file. But in user control, as we do not have App.xaml...How do I achieve it ? Please help :(...Thanks in Advance !!!

How to get .NET HttpContext for isolated code block

Hi, In .NET is it possible to get the HttpContext of the current page from within an external class? So, for example in my page test1.aspx codebehind I've got: Dim blah As New FeedWriter() blah.Run() But inside FeedWriter.vb, can I get the HttpContext of test1.aspx? Or would I have to pass it in to Run()? (I'm unwilling to do the latter because FeedWriter implements an interface which will need to be re-written if it's to take arguments) Cheers, Matt

Design-time failure: WPF, Usercontrols and Namespaces

Hi I have a very simple WPF project comprising a Window and Usercontrol. I'm very much in a learning phase. It works fine when I run it. However, I am unable to see the form in design time. The problem, I believe is something to do with namespaces, but I don't understand where. ASP.NET GridView EditTemplate and find control

In the GridView we are using an edit button. Once the edit button is clicked Controls in the edit template will display in the same row with update button. That row has two dropdownlist controls. Process flow: controls:d1 and d2 d1 is using sqldatasource for item display : working fine. d2 is using codebehind code to load the item based on the selected value in the d1 : Not working How to find the control in the edit template to display item value for d2?

Validating button click event using JS from inside ascx nested inside updatepanel

Hello I have a button inside an ascx inside an update panel inside aspx content page. When the button is clicked i want it to run a JS function that causes to show a panel. .net ViewState in page lifecycle

I have a page containing a control called PhoneInfo.ascx. PhoneInfo is dynamically created using LoadControl() and then the initControl() function is called passing in an initialization object to set some initial textbox values within PhoneInfo. The user then changes these values and hits a submit button on the page which is wired up to the "submit_click" event. This event invokes the GetPhone() function within PhoneInfo. The returned value has all of the new user entered values except that the phoneId value (stored in ViewState and NOT edited by the user) always comes back as null. I believe that the viewstate is responsible for keeping track of user entered data across a postback, so I can't understand how the user values are coming back but not the explicitly set ViewState["PhoneId"] value! If I set the ViewState["PhoneId"] value in PhoneInfo's page_load event, it retrieves it correctly after the postback, but this isn't an option because I can only initialize that value when the page is ready to provide it. I'm sure I am just messing up the page lifecycle somehow, any suggestion or questions would really help! I have included a much simplified version of the actual code below. Why does Visual Studio sometimes add a number when creating page events in codebehinds?

When writing up a codebehind in Visual Studio for ASP.NET web forms applications, I often use the dropdowns at the top of the window to autogenerate page event handlers (e.g. Page_Load, Page_PreRender). I've noticed that sometimes Visual Studio likes to add numbers to these function names like "Page_Load1" or "Page_PreRender2". Programatically speaking, this has no effect on the code. But stylistically, I find it a bit ugly. Is there any way to get rid of this behavior?

How do I bind to something outside a datacontext.

How do I bind the frame's content to be the UI property of the listbox's selected item property? If you need a codebehind, how would you do this in MVVM

Custom RIA Authentication

Following the steps in this post: http://forums.silverlight.net/forums/t/177042.aspx Where/How do I add the [Key] attribute on the Name property of the IAuthentication where User is one of my ADO.Net Entity objects? My options so far seem to be: In the designer codebehind of me ADO.Net Entity Model. Create a partial User class and add it there In the AuthenticationService.metadata.cs partial User class. It just does not seem to work no matter where I place the [Key] attribute.
