  • Slow to sync music files?

    I have created a folder in the Ubuntu One sync folder and called it music. I have added various albums and the folder has started to sync. However the files were added back in October and still only the folders have synced and no music files. I tested this service before and added a single music file directly into the Ubuntu One folder (no sub folders) and within a few days it synced, however it seems anything in sub folders seem to stall or take a very long time. My ubuntu One program always says syncing and the progression bar creeps, but still no files synced. I know there are issues with speed but a month and going to sync? I recently tested the same files with Dropbox and it took 9 hours. I have port forwarded the https (443) port both in the software firewall and in my router, I tried disabling both firewalls too, either way it makes no difference. I have also tried both from home and the office on different Ubuntu systems. Is there anything anyone has done to improve this service? I am trying to integrate Ubuntu One service into the office to share project files but the syncing is taking to long. I am using the latest Ubuntu 10.10 (fully updated, fresh install), I love Ubuntu and wish to continue to support it anyway I can, so a solution would be good :-) Any help would be appreciated. I am new to Ubuntu and therefore have some questions: 1.My hardware is Acer Emachines Intel Celeron T3000 1.8 3 Gig of Ram and Native Intel Intergrated graphics card. Can I run Ubuntu on this machine without any problems? 2.I am windows user and currently have windows 8. I want to install ubuntu but want to save all my directories on C:\ D:\ disks so that I can open my files in ubuntu. Is it possible to save my current directory system and save all my files after installing ubuntu? Can I open all my files? I have very important data in files so I dont want to lose them at all :) Thank You

  • Is there any ways to extend the search (find-in-files) capability of WinRAR?

    WinRAR is good at searching for a string in text files(java, xml, txt etc.) within an archive and it supports multiple archive formats. (rar, 7zip, winzip etc) Is there some way to extend this feature (by means of plug-ins etc) to search within Pdf & office files (doc, ppt), Or any other similar unzip tool which has this feature? (Extracting the entire archive & searching using Windows search is always one option)

  • copy windows registry and/or other locked files

    Hi. While improving my (personal) backup system, I noticed, that I cannot copy certain locked files, like the windows registry files. Is there a way to copy such things? Or a specific solution for the registry (I know of the regedit-File-Export ,,solution'' but this is to text format and seems slow). AFAIK, On Linux the locking system is advisory and on Windows it is mandatory. Can I somehow bypass the mandatory-ness for backup purposes etc.? TIA.

  • Can't copy and paste into outlook 2003 from any other aplication

I have tried copying from excel, word, notepad and from a web browser. I can confirm that i can copy and paste parts from the same email. Has anyone come across this issue before and/or know of a solution?

  • Unix copy command that has a progress bar, but not as heavy as rsync

    I need to copy lots of files. Usually I use rsync because I pass it the -aP options and I can see (a) how many files are left to process and (b) how much of each individual file is copied. However rsync also does lots of things with checksums to verify that a file was copied. However I don't really need that now. But normal cp doesn't include the above mentioned count of files left, which is very helpful. Is there anything like cp that includes progress of how many files left, but isn't as heavy as rsync?

  • Volume Shadow Copy not starting

    Hi We are running a Windows 2008 Small Business Server with Symantec Backup Exec. Last night the back up failed due to the Volume Shadow Copy service being unable to start. When I try to manually start it I get the following error "windows could not start the volume shadow copy on local computer" Has anybody any suggestions other than rebooting the server? many thanks Graham

  • Can't copy and paste to Netbeans when accessed over RDC

    I use Netbeans for development and I access it by using a Windows Remote Desktop Connection back to my workstation at HQ. This is a great set up except for one thing, I cannot copy text on my local machine and paste it into Netbeans. I can copy and paste into other applications. Any ideas as to the cause? How can I fix it?

I still can't seem to get any copy-paste working. Am I missing something here? I've installed gpm which gives mouse support in server mode (no X), and allows copy-paste using the mouse, but still the VirtualBox integration doesn't work.

    Win7 How can I select multiple files in explorer and get a string of text listing the file names like i would get if i selected the files from within "open file" window of an application. for example if i have a Dir that contains 100 jpegs and i select 01.jpg, 05.jpg, 10.jpg in windows explore via ctrl+clicks or shift+click how can i get a text string that reads " "01.jpg" "05.jpg" "10.jpg" with or without the selected files full path " with out dragging the selected files to another window? I've tried copy and pasting into Note Pad and Word Pad and it either past the picts into the the application or a empty clipboard.

    hi. im looking for a small utility that can copy files over to/from remote windows hosts, and which can take the credentials (domain user and password) as part of its command line, similar to psexec. i know i can use net use to map the target directory to a drive letter and use xcopy, and i know psexec can upload files to be executed on the remote machine and then delete them, but im looking for a small utility to distribute files to remote hosts that will not be as awkward to use as net use + xcopy

    I recently had to copy about 20 GB of data split between about 20 files from my laptop to an external hard drive. Since this operation takes quite a while (at ~560kb/s), I was wondering if there was any way to pause the transfer and resume it later (in case, I need to interrupt the transfer). As a side question, is there any performance difference between copying from the terminal vs copying from Nautilus?

    Hi, I'm trying to design this script that's supposed to be used as a part of a logon script for alot of users. And this script is basically supposed to take a source folder and destination folder as basically just make sure that the destination folder has the exact same content as the source folder. But only copy if the datemodified stamp of the source file is newer than the destination file. I have been thinking out this basic pseudo code, just trying to make sure this is valid and solid basically.     Hi *, I'm searching for a tool to batch-copy files, that should support the following points: copy files from a net-share report any errors show errors only or filter log on errors don't stop on an error also report if a file or a folder could not be copied due to missing permissions if possible it should have a queue where new job can be added while copying I tried the following tools: TerraCopy: takes a lot time to just calculate the time and the size of the job and does not report errors due to missing permissions (it doesn't even add those files to the copy-queue) Karne's replicator: does not report errors due to missing permissions xcopy: does a great job when using the right parameters and piping the output to a file (in the German localization xcopy /k /r /e /i /s /c /h SOURCE TARGET>LOGFILE 2>&1 will do the job. opening the logfile in IE will give you a great monitor). but quing jobs it not possible (ok, you can join them all in a batch-file, but you can not queue jobs while another one is running (hm, thinking of a batch-script that loops through a file with the source-target-config...)) to be continued Which tools do you use?   • .net File.Copy very slow when copying many small files (not over network)

    I'm making a simple folder sync backup tool for myself and ran into quite a roadblock using File.Copy. Doing tests copying a folder of ~44,000 small files (Windows mail folders) to another drive in my system, I found that using File.Copy was over 3x slower than using a command line and running xcopy to copy the same files/folders. My C# version takes over 16+ minutes to copy the files, whereas xcopy takes only 5 minutes. I've tried searching for help on this topic, but all I find is people complaining about slow file copying of large files over a network. This is neither a large file problem nor a network copying problem. I found an interesting article about a better File.Copy replacement, but the code as posted has some errors which causes problems with the stack and I am nowhere near knowledgeable enough to fix the problems in his code. Are there any common or easy ways to replace File.Copy with something more speedy?

  • Hidden files in Nautilus after extracting ISO

    I need to first point to the image below to explain a bit about what I find weird here: I extracted the informacion from an ISO I from Nautilus I could only see two folders but from the terminal I can see the rest of the files and folders. This folders do not have the . character in from of them to hide them from plain sight. When I try to "Show hidden files" in Nautilus, Nautilus closes itself. It does not show the hidden folders or files. Somehow they are hidden without using the normal dot in the beginning of the name. The have my user permission but no way of seeing them from Nautilus. I can interact with them but the fact that they appear hidden when I can see them inside the ISO and after extracting them they disappear is what confuses me. What permission or setting makes this folders appear hidden and does not let Nautilus show them and like I said before, trying to show them with the "Show hidden files" option crashes Nautilus and exits it. Forcing me to have to open Nautilus again from the Launcher.

  • How to organize music files?

    I'm trying to re-organize my music files. I copied them from my iPod before it died, so they have funky names, like DGEDH.mp3. I tried using a Windows utility to rename them from their ID3 tags, but it didn't work very well--it created a bunch of folders (one for each album in theory, but more like 7 or 8 in reality) and renamed the files with non-English characters. Most of the files are MP3s, but there's at least one or two other file types as well. I'd like to copy them to a new folder and try a Ubuntu utility to rename and re-organize them. In Windows, this would be straightforward--I'd use the Search function (with no file name specified) to list all of the files in the main folder and its subfolders, then drag and drop them to the new folder. What's the easiest way to accomplish the same thing in Ubuntu? The GUI search doesn't seem to accept wildcard characters, and I don't remember all of the file types I have, so it's not as simple as searching for "mp3". Many thanks!
