  • So now that Django 1.2 is officially out...

    - by Fedor
Since I have Django 1.1x on my Debian setup - how can I use virtualenv or similar and not have it mess up my system's default django version which in turn would break all my sites? Detailed instructions or a great tutorial link would very much be appreciated - please don't offer vague advice since I'm still a noob. Currently I store all my django projects in ~/django-sites and I am using Apache2 + mod_wsgi to deploy.

  • Django-Registration & Django-Profile, using your own custom form

    - by Issy
Hey All, I am making use of django-registration and django-profile to handle registration and profiles. I would like to create a profile for the user at the time of registration. I have created a custom registration form, and added that to the urls.py using the tutorial on: http://dewful.com/?p=70 The basic idea in the tutorial is to override the default registration form to create the profile at the same time. forms.py - In my profiles app from django import forms from registration.forms import RegistrationForm from django.utils.translation import ugettext_lazy as _ from profiles.models import UserProfile from registration.models import RegistrationProfile attrs_dict = { 'class': 'required' } class UserRegistrationForm(RegistrationForm): city = forms.CharField(widget=forms.TextInput(attrs=attrs_dict)) def save(self, profile_callback=None): new_user = RegistrationProfile.objects.create_inactive_user(username=self.cleaned_data['username'], password=self.cleaned_data['password1'], email=self.cleaned_data['email']) new_profile = UserProfile(user=new_user, city=self.cleaned_data['city']) new_profile.save() return new_user In urls.py from profiles.forms import UserRegistrationForm and url(r'^register/$', register, {'backend': 'registration.backends.default.DefaultBackend', 'form_class' : UserRegistrationForm}, name='registration_register'), The form is displayed, and i can enter in City, however it does not save or create the entry in the DB.

  • Django TemplateSyntaxError only on live server (templates exist)

    - by Tom
I'm getting a strange error that only occurs on the live server. My Django templates directory is set up like so base.html two-column-base.html portfolio index.html extranet base.html index.html The portfolio pages work correctly locally on multiple machines. They inherit from either the root base.html or two-column-base.html. However, now that I've posted them to the live box (local machines are Windows, live is Linux), I get a TemplateSyntaxError: "Caught TemplateDoesNotExist while rendering: base.html" when I try to load any portfolio pages. It seems to be a case where the extends tag won't work in that root directory (???). Even if I do a direct_to_template on two-column-base.html (which extends base.html), I get that error. The extranet pages all work perfectly, but those templates all live inside the /extranet folder and inherit from /extranet/base.html. Possible issues I've checked: file permissions on the server are fine the template directory is correct on the live box (I'm using os.path.dirname(os.path.realpath(__file__)) to make things work across machines) files exist and the /templates directories exactly match my local copy removing the {% extends %} block from the top of any broken template causes the templates to render without a problem manually starting a shell session and calling get_template on any of the files works, but trying to render it blows up with the same exception on any of the extended templates. Doing the same with base.html, it renders perfectly (base.html also renders via direct_to_template) Django 1.2, Python 2.6 on Webfaction. Apologies in advance because this is my 3rd or 4th "I'm doing something stupid" question in a row. The only x-factor I can think of is this is my first time using Mercurial instead ofsvn. Not sure how I could have messed things up via that. EDIT: One possible source of problems: local machine is Python 2.5, live is 2.6. Here's a traceback of me trying to render 'two-column-base.html', which extends 'base.html'. Both files are in the same directory, so if it can find the first, it can find the second. c is just an empty Context object. >>> render_to_string('two-column-base.html', c) Traceback (most recent call last): File "<console>", line 1, in <module> File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/loader.py", line 186, in render_to_string return t.render(context_instance) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/__init__.py", line 173, in render return self._render(context) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/__init__.py", line 167, in _render return self.nodelist.render(context) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/__init__.py", line 796, in render bits.append(self.render_node(node, context)) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/debug.py", line 72, in render_node result = node.render(context) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/loader_tags.py", line 103, in render compiled_parent = self.get_parent(context) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/loader_tags.py", line 100, in get_parent return get_template(parent) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/loader.py", line 157, in get_template template, origin = find_template(template_name) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/loader.py", line 138, in find_template raise TemplateDoesNotExist(name) TemplateSyntaxError: Caught TemplateDoesNotExist while rendering: base.html I'm wondering if this is somehow related to the template caching that was just added to Django. • PayPal - Account management

    - by Tom
I'm running an app that gets small donations (Micro payments up to ~11 USD) and also I'm doing some freelancing where I get some higher payments over PayPal too. (~900 USD a month) Is it possible to have 2 accounts on PayPal? (I'm asking because if someone send me money for my freelancing, they get the contact information from the app - Like [email protected] instead of [email protected] ) Thanks.

  • Odd behavior in Django Form (readonly field/widget)

    - by jamida
I'm having a problem with a test app I'm writing to verify some Django functionality. The test app is a small "grade book" application that is currently using Alex Gaynor's readonly field functionality http://lazypython.blogspot.com/2008/12/building-read-only-field-in-django.html There are 2 problems which may be related. First, when I flop the comment on these 2 lines below: # myform = GradeForm(data=request.POST, instance=mygrade) myform = GradeROForm(data=request.POST, instance=mygrade) it works like I expect, except of course that the student field is changeable. When the comments are the shown way, the "studentId" field is displayed as a number (not the name, problem 1) and when I hit submit I get an error saying that studentId needs to be a Student instance. I'm at a loss as to how to fix this. I'm not wedded to Alex Gaynor's code. ANY code will work. I'm relatively new to both Python and Django, so the hints I've seen on websites that say "making a read-only field is easy" are still beyond me. // models.py class Student(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=50) parent = models.CharField(max_length=50) def __unicode__(self): return self.name class Grade(models.Model): studentId = models.ForeignKey(Student) finalGrade = models.CharField(max_length=3) # testbed.grades.readonly is alex gaynor's code from testbed.grades.readonly import ReadOnlyField class GradeROForm(ModelForm): studentId = ReadOnlyField() class Meta: model=Grade class GradeForm(ModelForm): class Meta: model=Grade // views.py def modifyGrade(request, student): student = Student.objects.get(name=student) mygrade = Grade.objects.get(studentId=student) if request.method == "POST": # myform = GradeForm(data=request.POST, instance=mygrade) myform = GradeROForm(data=request.POST, instance=mygrade) if myform.is_valid(): grade = myform.save() info = "successfully updated %s" % grade.studentId else: # myform=GradeForm(instance=mygrade) myform=GradeROForm(instance=mygrade) return render_to_response('grades/modifyGrade.html',locals()) // template <p>{{ info }}</p> <form method="POST" action=""> <table> {{ myform.as_table }} </table> <input type="submit" value="Submit"> </form> // Alex Gaynor's code from django import forms from django.utils.html import escape from django.utils.safestring import mark_safe from django.forms.util import flatatt class ReadOnlyWidget(forms.Widget): def render(self, name, value, attrs): final_attrs = self.build_attrs(attrs, name=name) if hasattr(self, 'initial'): value = self.initial return mark_safe("<span %s>%s</span>" % (flatatt(final_attrs), escape(value) or '')) def _has_changed(self, initial, data): return False class ReadOnlyField(forms.FileField): widget = ReadOnlyWidget def __init__(self, widget=None, label=None, initial=None, help_text=None): forms.Field.__init__(self, label=label, initial=initial, help_text=help_text, widget=widget) def clean(self, value, initial): self.widget.initial = initial return initial

  • Simple Observation in Django: How Can I Correctly Modify The `attrs` sent to __new__ of a Django Mod

    - by DGGenuine
Hello, I'm a strong proponent of the observer pattern, and this is what I'd like to be able to do in my Django models.py: class AModel(Model): __metaclass__ = SomethingMagical @post_save(AnotherModel) @classmethod def observe_another_model_saved(klass, sender, instance, created, **kwargs): pass @pre_init('YetAnotherModel') @classmethod def observe_yet_another_model_initializing(klass, sender, *args, **kwargs): pass @post_delete('DifferentApp.SomeModel') @classmethod def observe_some_model_deleted(klass, sender, **kwargs): pass This would connect a signal with sender = the decorator's argument and receiver = the decorated method. Right now my signal connection code all exists in __init__.py which is okay, but a little unmaintainable. I want this code all in one place, the models.py file. Thanks to helpful feedback from the community I'm very close (I think.) (I'm using a metaclass solution instead of the class decorator solution in the previous question/answer because you can't set attributes on classmethods, which I need.) I am having a strange error I don't understand. At the end of my post are the contents of a models.py that you can pop into a fresh project/application to see the error. Set your database to sqlite and add the application to installed apps. This is the error: Validating models... Unhandled exception in thread started by Traceback (most recent call last): File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages//lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/core/management/commands/runserver.py", line 48, in inner_run File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/django/core/management/base.py", line 253, in validate raise CommandError("One or more models did not validate:\n%s" % error_text) django.core.management.base.CommandError: One or more models did not validate: local.myothermodel: 'my_model' has a relation with model MyModel, which has either not been installed or is abstract. I've indicated a few different things you can comment in/out to fix the error. First, if you don't modify the attrs sent to the metaclass's __new__, then the error does not arise. (Note even if you copy the dictionary element by element into a new dictionary, it still fails; only using the exact attrs dictionary works.) Second, if you reference the first model by class rather than by string, the error also doesn't arise regardless of what you do in __new__. I appreciate your help. I'll be githubbing the solution if and when it works. Maybe other people would enjoy a simplified way to use Django signals to observe application happenings. #models.py from django.db import models from django.db.models.base import ModelBase from django.db.models import signals import pdb class UnconnectedMethodWrapper(object): sender = None method = None signal = None def __init__(self, signal, sender, method): self.signal = signal self.sender = sender self.method = method def post_save(sender): return _make_decorator(signals.post_save, sender) def _make_decorator(signal, sender): def decorator(view): return UnconnectedMethodWrapper(signal, sender, view) return decorator class ConnectableModel(ModelBase): """ A meta class for any class that will have static or class methods that need to be connected to signals. • Need to capture and store receiver's details via IPN by using Paypal Mass Pay API

    - by Devner
    Hi all, This is a question about Paypal Mass Pay IPN. My platform is PHP & mySQL. All over the Paypal support website, I have found IPN for only payments made. I need an IPN on similar lines for Mass Pay but could not find it. Also tried experimenting with already existing Mass Pay NVP code, but that did not work either. What I am trying to do is that for all the recipients to whom the payment has been successfully sent via Mass Pay, I want to record their email, amount and unique_id in my own database table. If possible, I want to capture the payment status as well, whether it has been a success of failure and based upon the same, I need to do some in house processing. The existing code Mass pay code is below: <?php $environment = 'sandbox'; // or 'beta-sandbox' or 'live' /** * Send HTTP POST Request * * @param string The API method name * @param string The POST Message fields in &name=value pair format * @return array Parsed HTTP Response body */ function PPHttpPost($methodName_, $nvpStr_) { global $environment; // Set up your API credentials, PayPal end point, and API version. $API_UserName = urlencode('my_api_username'); $API_Password = urlencode('my_api_password'); $API_Signature = urlencode('my_api_signature'); $API_Endpoint = "https://api-3t.paypal.com/nvp"; if("sandbox" === $environment || "beta-sandbox" === $environment) { $API_Endpoint = "https://api-3t.$environment.paypal.com/nvp"; } $version = urlencode('51.0'); // Set the curl parameters. $ch = curl_init(); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $API_Endpoint); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_VERBOSE, 1); // Turn off the server and peer verification (TrustManager Concept). curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER, FALSE); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYHOST, FALSE); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, 1); // Set the API operation, version, and API signature in the request. $nvpreq = "METHOD=$methodName_&VERSION=$version&PWD=$API_Password&USER=$API_UserName&SIGNATURE=$API_Signature$nvpStr_"; // Set the request as a POST FIELD for curl. curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, $nvpreq); // Get response from the server. $httpResponse = curl_exec($ch); if(!$httpResponse) { exit("$methodName_ failed: ".curl_error($ch).'('.curl_errno($ch).')'); } // Extract the response details. $httpResponseAr = explode("&", $httpResponse); $httpParsedResponseAr = array(); foreach ($httpResponseAr as $i => $value) { $tmpAr = explode("=", $value); if(sizeof($tmpAr) > 1) { $httpParsedResponseAr[$tmpAr[0]] = $tmpAr[1]; } } if((0 == sizeof($httpParsedResponseAr)) || !array_key_exists('ACK', $httpParsedResponseAr)) { exit("Invalid HTTP Response for POST request($nvpreq) to $API_Endpoint."); } return $httpParsedResponseAr; } // Set request-specific fields. $emailSubject =urlencode('example_email_subject'); $receiverType = urlencode('EmailAddress'); $currency = urlencode('USD'); // or other currency ('GBP', 'EUR', 'JPY', 'CAD', 'AUD') // Add request-specific fields to the request string. $nvpStr="&EMAILSUBJECT=$emailSubject&RECEIVERTYPE=$receiverType&CURRENCYCODE=$currency"; $receiversArray = array(); for($i = 0; $i < 3; $i++) { $receiverData = array( 'receiverEmail' => "[email protected]", 'amount' => "example_amount", 'uniqueID' => "example_unique_id", 'note' => "example_note"); $receiversArray[$i] = $receiverData; } foreach($receiversArray as $i => $receiverData) { $receiverEmail = urlencode($receiverData['receiverEmail']); $amount = urlencode($receiverData['amount']); $uniqueID = urlencode($receiverData['uniqueID']); $note = urlencode($receiverData['note']); $nvpStr .= "&L_EMAIL$i=$receiverEmail&L_Amt$i=$amount&L_UNIQUEID$i=$uniqueID&L_NOTE$i=$note"; } // Execute the API operation; see the PPHttpPost function above. $httpParsedResponseAr = PPHttpPost('MassPay', $nvpStr); if("SUCCESS" == strtoupper($httpParsedResponseAr["ACK"]) || "SUCCESSWITHWARNING" == strtoupper($httpParsedResponseAr["ACK"])) { exit('MassPay Completed Successfully: '.print_r($httpParsedResponseAr, true)); } else { exit('MassPay failed: ' . print_r($httpParsedResponseAr, true)); } ?> In the code above, how and where do I add code to capture the fields that I requested above? Any code indicating the solution is highly appreciated. Thank you very much.

  • Paypal subscribe now button

    - by Bharadwaj
Hi, I have built an information portal in PHP [Something like a recipe book], where the first few recipes are free to access. The advanced recipes are available only to paid members. I intend to use a simple subscribe now paypal button. When the user clicks on this button, he is directed to paypal website and upon payment redirected to my site. How do I collect the payment information from paypal? I do not want to use a wsdl. I need the information to update my user level field [0 for registered users, 1 for paid users] in the users table. Any pointers? Does IPN do the trick for this? Is there a better solution for this? Thanks, Bharadwaj

Hello, Is there a way to test your application's processing and handling of Paypal generated credit card errors? I'd like to verify that my application can handle a declined credit card or something like that. So is there a way to have Paypal send an error message? Or would it be better to generate a stub and use it in the testing environment? If this is the better way, how would one generate a stub? Thanks!

  • paypal IPN sends two different twice

    - by Patrick
    I've come across something a bit strange I was hoping someone with more experience with Paypal can explain, Specifically the IPN feature. It seems I'm getting two very different hits to my IPN listener. The first one always fails, The second one passes. Now I know Paypal tends to send duplicates, But what I've noticed is two very different $_POST arrays being recieved. Here's the respones : [2014-06-08 23:51:19] RAW POST DATA : Array ( [transaction] => Array ( [0] => ILS 20.00 ) [payment_request_date] => Sun Jun 08 13:52:12 PDT 2014 [return_url] => MY_URL [fees_payer] => EACHRECEIVER [ipn_notification_url] => MY_URL [sender_email] => [email protected] //fake email [verify_sign] => ANp5TpLat3.2ylx.cECtVZ..5HejAsVcs05tdVC7RldmeYNJ91SKaqFJ [test_ipn] => 1 [cancel_url] => MY_URL [pay_key] => AP-04B74091M7083584A [action_type] => PAY [transaction_type] => Adaptive Payment PAY [tracking_id] => 13 // This is a number I passed, But it doesn't exist in the 2nd POST [status] => COMPLETED [log_default_shipping_address_in_transaction] => false [charset] => windows-1252 [notify_version] => UNVERSIONED [reverse_all_parallel_payments_on_error] => false ) [2014-06-08 23:51:19] RAW POST DATA : Array ( [transaction_subject] => [payment_date] => 13:52:28 Jun 08, 2014 PDT [txn_type] => web_accept [last_name] => test [residence_country] => US [item_name] => .... (this continues for quite a bit more) .... [payment_fee] => [mc_fee] => 1.78 [mc_gross] => 20.00 [custom] => [charset] => windows-1252 [notify_version] => 3.8 [ipn_track_id] => f93ce8bdd4382 ) My problem The first IPN with the juicy tracking_id fails, the 2nd IPN is verified, But once the IPN is verified I no longer have access to the tracking_id. My questions Why does paypal send two different IPN's Why are they different? Why isn't any of this documented on Paypal? :(

  • Django "comment_was_flagged" signal

    - by tsoporan
Hello, This is my first time working with django signals and I would like to hook the "comment_was_flagged" signal provided by the comments app to notify me when a comment is flagged. This is my code, but it doesn't seem to work, am I missing something? from django.contrib.comments.signals import comment_was_flagged from django.core.mail import send_mail def comment_flagged_notification(sender, **kwargs): send_mail('testing moderation', 'testing', 'test@localhost', ['[email protected]',]) comment_was_flagged.connect(comment_flagged_notification) (I am just testing the email for now, but I have assured the email is sending properly.) Thanks!

  • django-multilingual and switching between languages on template side

    - by israkir
I am trying to use django-multilingual and setup it properly. But what I found is that everything is clear for django-multilingual except a template usage example. I just started to use django and I don't know, maybe because of this reason, I cannot figure out how to switch between languages on template side. Is there any example that you can give or any 'more' clear source/documentation about this?

  • Edit/show Primary Key in Django Admin

    - by emcee
It appears Django hides fields that are flagged Primary Key from being displayed/edited in the Django admin interface. Let's say I'd like to input data in which I may or may not want to specify a primary key. How would I go about displaying primary keys in Django-admin, and how could I make specifying it optional? Many thanks in advance, beloved hive-mind.

  • Django Admin Actions missing

    - by Andrew C
One of my Django sites is missing the Django Admin Action bar shown here: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/admin/actions/#ref-contrib-admin-actions There is no checkbox next to each row and no Action select box near the top of the page. This is happening on every model. I have several sites running Django 1.1, and they all show the Admin Actions, so it feels like a local configuration issue. Anyone seen this before?

  • Integrating eBay and PayPal inventory

    - by JW01
Say I have an item for sale on eBay, and the same item for sale on another site via PayPal. Is it possible to have sales on one site reflected in the inventory for the other site, and vice-versa? In other words, if I have ten items for sale, and I buy one on either site, it should show that there are nine items left on both sites. I know that PayPal has an API for setting the inventory level of an item associated with a button. eBay also has an API for controlling an item's inventory. I'm wondering if anyone has tried to integrate them.

  • Hotel Reservation Request Booking Paypal PHP

    - by Robert
I'm making a website for a small hotel in php. The hotel owners want a reservation system that uses paypal. They want people to see a calendar and choose a date to make a reservation. If the day has vacancy, they want the user to request booking a room. This would then require the hotel owner to accept the purchase. I have not worked on a project that has this "request to purchase" method of buying with paypal. Is this possible? Does anyone know of an open php system that handles this? THANKS :)

  • registration form with payment system ( paypal ) [closed]

    - by Alecs
I'm using an ajax registration form plugin for my website and I'm thinking to implement also Paypal. Here is how I want to implement it : I have 3 labels ( Name, Phone, Email, ) and a " Buy " button. After the user is typing his name, phone and email they click on "Buy" and they will be redirected to the paypal payment page or if it's possible to stay on the same page. Probably, what I need to know is how to make the "Buy " only after the forms ( name, phone, email ) are validated. Is there a plugin, or a snippet of code already made to not start something which already exists.

  • Is it possible to pay customers with PayPal?

    - by CJxD
Usually with PayPal we buy goods and services by sending money from customer to business. Now, I want my business to pay my customers; I want to allow them to withdraw money from a virtual wallet on my website. I did notice there is an 'Adaptive Payments API' which mentioned something vaguely similar to this, but I haven't been able to search up enough information to come to any conclusion. So is it possible to send money from business to customer (autonomously) with PayPal? If not, are there any alternatives?

  • Building Paypal based membership website - total noob - would appreciate help

    - by Ali
this is a follow up on my question on paypal integration. I'm working ona membership site for racing fans. My membership site has 3 membership levels - free, gold and premium. When a user signs up he/she can gets a free membership on the spot but has the option to upgrade to a gold membership for 4 Dollars a month or a premium membership for 10 Dollars a month. I've gone through the paypal integration guide a few times though and have a vague understanding of how to get this to work. I think the recurring payments option would be fine enough - however I don't know how do I implement this in my system. Like when a user decides to go for a paid account i.e. Gold or premium from basic - what should I do on both my code side and on the paypal account side - I'd really appreciate if anyone would outline what I'd have to do here. Plus when a user decides to upgrade from lets say a Gold to a premium account - there is the issue of computing how much should be charged to upgrade his/her account eg: a user has been billed for 4 dollars and the next day opts to go for a premium account so assuming that the surplus for the rest of the month is 5 dollars and further from that all payments would be recurring 10 dollars monthly - how do I implement this? And in case a user decides to downgrade from a premium account of 10 dollars a month to a gold account of 4 dollars a month - how do I handle the surplus which would have to be refunded for that month alone and changing the membership? And like wise if someone wishes to cancel membership and go to having a free account - how do I refund whatever is owed and cancel the subscription. I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm asking to be spoon fed :( I'm quite new to this and this is for a client and I would really appreciate all the help here and really have to get this working right. Thanks again everyone - waiting for all your replies.
