  This is inspired by Which features from other IDEs/editors you wish you have in Visual Studio? Xcode is a very different tool from Visual Studio, with a different feature set. While some of its capabilities are very mature (it had RAD UI layout in Interface Builder since before most other platforms), it lacks some features that e.g. Visual Studio or Eclipse provide. If you could request one feature to be added to Xcode, which would it be? How would that feature help you write better code, or write the same code faster?

• Ubuntu 12.04 Touchscreen Calibration

  I have a machine with Ubuntu 12.04 installed, with dual monitor, via VGA and DVI Interface. The monitor is one touch screen and the other one is regular LCD Monitor. The touch screen is made in China with some unknown brand, and I am using eGalax Driver. The touch screen is now detected and works, but i need to do some calibration since it does not correctly perform click on touch. The problem is, when I’m using xinput_calibrator, it shows 4 crosses to be clicked on, because I’m using dual monitor, the crosses is now show 2 on the touch screen (touchable) and the others on the other monitor which is regular non-touch monitor. Please help, thank you.

  Has anyone used Sproutcore for a web application? If so, can you give me a description of your experience? I am currently considering it, but I have a few concerns. First, the documentation is bad/incomplete, and I'm afraid that I'll spend lots of time figuring things out or digging through source code. Also, I'm a bit hesitant to use a project that is relatively new and could undergo significant changes. Any thoughts from people who have developed in Sproutcore are appreciated! EDIT/PS: Yes, I've seen this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/370598/sproutcore-and-cappuccino . However I'm interested in a bit lengthier description of Sproutcore itself from someone who's used it for a significant project.

• PHP accessible shared content between two websites on the same VPS on different domains/IPs

  I have two ecommerce websites, selling music digital downloads, on the same VPS, currently using cPanel/WHM (but thinking of switching to Virtualmin). They have separate domains and IPs of course. They both share from the same set of music files, so I have duplicate copies in each website directory, which takes up a lot of disk space. How might I go about sharing the same set of music files across both sites, allowing PHP access, so that it does not break my shopping cart's functionality of serving customers the downloads after they have paid for them? I thought of maybe using symlinks or something, but I don't know if it's possible, or if it would have to somehow circumvent built-in security features of the server. I'm new to VPS management.

• What is the best way to deal with 404s that are all trying to point to the same page that are from an external site?

  I started getting 404s showing up in my Google Webmaster's Tools from a site linking to a specific category but with odd characters at the end of the url. So Something like this: http://example.com/category/puppies%EF%BC%9A.textwidget%E8%A6%81%E7%B4%A0%E7%B7%A8%E9%9B%86 Google Webmaster says that there are about 120 of these links and I can imagine there will be more to come. What is the best way to handle these links from an seo point-of-view? I have heard 301 redirecting too many links at one time can cause Google to ding the site but I don't want this site to continue posting broken links. Any help on this would be appreciated.

  Our web system, use the third-party cdn service. Assume that the user set the local dns with the googledns or opendns to visit our web sites, so cdn service will select the closest cdn proxy node. all right, but in fact the user's actual access position might outside there, cdn service may chose the one furthest away from the user node, so static resource access slower.. At present, my idea is if user local set dns server with googledns, and then first one we get the actual ip address of the user, tracerote to test a best routing lines, set up a cookie in user browser, and then set 302 header for response to jump to the which best cdn node. Whether the user's browser side traceroute tool can provide the best route decision-making ? Because we find that, once the user to set local dns server with the foreign network segment, for example : set dns with 8.8.8.8, so cdn routing will choose the foreign service node.

• Why is my Workspace switcher view skewed

  I have been using Workspace switcher in Ubuntu just fine but recently have encountered this problem. The windows in the switcher don't fill the screen. I must have pressed some combination of buttons somehow but can't find any information anywhere in regards to resizing them. As you can see in the screen shot it looks like a perspective view or something. http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/k553/lmt337/Screenshotfrom2012-07-04103519.png I should also add I have a dual monitor setup and nvidia graphics. The switcher still works but the fact the screens dont fit my actual screens is driving me nuts. Thanks in advance for any help.

• Prevent Jquery Accordion tab from expanding

  I'm trying to use JQuery UI Accordion as a menu, but I can't figure out how to prevent some tabs from expanding. I tried using "changestart" event and return false when #sidebar_grades is clicked, but it doesn't work. I also tried attaching onClick event to #sidebar_grades to return false, but that didn't work either. Any idea how to do this? Thank you!

(Shouldn't that be taken care of by the SQLiteDatabase.CREATE_IF_NECESSARY flag that i passed in?) • Use Google Calendar UI but showing only filtered events

  I have just started using Google Calendar API (using Python client). I'm basically developing a web app for a school with Django. What I'd like to achieve is something like this: To make things simple for now, I have 1 Google account and all events will be created in the calendar under that account (this is the school calendar). The calendar will be made public. When a class is created by a teacher, the class schedule will be automatically added as an event in the Google Calendar. When a student logs in, he can see the school calendar, showing only schedules from the classes that he's registered in. I think I can filter the calendar feeds to show only class schedules that a student is registered in using Google Data API. The problem is, how can I display Google Calendar on my web app using Google Calendar UI to show only those filtered events? I can use Google Calendar UI with the provided embeddable HTML snippet, but I can't control/filter events with that (i.e. all events in the school calendar will be displayed). Or perhaps I'm missing something? I read the Data API guide and the Publishing tool doc but I can't seem to find this information. THanks in advance!

  Hi, I'm automating Word with Delphi, but some times I got an error message: The requested member of the collection does not exist It seems that the Item member of the Styles collection class does not always exist and some times causes the above mentioned error. My workaround is to catch the exception and skip it, but is there anyway to detect it instead of using the try...except block? The problem with the try...except block is that when debugging the raised exception is annoying... • Why Banks or Financial Companies prefer Oracle than other RDBMS for their "Core" systems?

  I'd like to know why most Banks or Financial companies prefer Oracle than other RDBMS for their core systems (the absolutely minimum features that a Bank must support). I found a few answers that didn't satisfy me. For example: Oracle has more features. But features for what? Can't you implement that in application level if you were not using Oracle? Could someone please describe a bit more technical but still on high-level overview of what the bank needs and how Oracle would solve it and the others can't or don't have the features yet? I came from the web-app (web 2.0) crowd who normally hear news about MySQL, PostgreSQL or even key-value/column-oriented storage solution. • Is it possible to replace the system open file dialog?

  I want to replace the standard system open file dialog with the one I wrote, that means no matter within which programs you are opening a file, my dialog will be shown instead of the standard one, is this possible? It seems that that there is no such API provided to accomplish this, is it possible to use some hooking technique, but this has to be reliable and not to be treated as spyware by anti-virus tools? any other options? If this is not possible, is it possible to add to the spacebar or toolbar in the standard open file dialog a button which invokes my dialog, which allow users select a file and in turn returns the path of the selected file to the "File name" input box of the standard dialog? Any hits, links and code examples will be appreciated.

• Virtual StringTree's hint windows are left out on the screen

  Hi, See this screenshot, in the middle it's the small hint windows that are generated by a TVirtualStringTree control and were left out on the screen, these hint windows will remain there until the application exits. the problem happens when the treeview's hint is shown and the mouse leaves quickly to the window next to it. Any idea about how to avoid this or how to clear those un-erased hint windows if it's difficult to avid this? Few days ago I asked a similar question, while the hint windows in the screenshots look the same, the are not the same problem. That problem, the hint text never shows and only that kind of uncompleted hint windows are shown; This problem, the hint text shows but the hint windows are not completely erased in a case (as I described above). • Handling data update/freshness issue in web-app in general (or GWT specifically)

  In general, how do you guys handle user update/data freshness interaction with the user (UI issue) in web-apps? For example: Multi-users web-app (like project management) Login to a "virtual" space People can update project names, etc How to handle a situation such that: user-A and user-B load a project with title "Project StackOverflow" user-B updates the title to "Project StackExchange" user-A updates the title after user-B update operation to "Project Basecamp" The question I'm asking is from the user perspective (UI) and not about transactional operation. What do most people do in this situation? What would you do after user-B updates the title in user-A screen/view? What happened when user-A tries to update the title after user-B finished his/her update operation? do you inform user-A that the title has changed and he/she has to reload the page? do you go ahead and change the title and let user-B has old data? Do you do some sort of application-level "locking" mechanism? (if someone is updating, nobody else can?) Or fix the application workflow? (who has the access to be able to change things, etc). What would be the simplest solution, but at the same time not annoy the user with more dialog/warning messages. I've encountered this particular problem frequently in a GWT app specifically where domain models are being passed around and refreshing the whole app/client-side isn't the optimal solution in my mind (since it means the whole "loading"/initialization phase must be executed again in this specific environment). Maybe the answer is to stay away from GWT? :) Love to hear options, solutions, and advises from you guys. Thanks

  Hi, I have started using Python for web development recently, it's kinda cool; I have seen programs that are developed in QT/C++, which is good enough in terms of esthetics; I have just noticed the new PySide project (which brings LGPL Qt license to Python and it doesn't support Windows yet). In view of the above, I see the possibility of using Python + PyQt/PySide to develop cross platform apps in the future :) but I have several doubts right now: Can PyQty/PySide be used to develop really complex/modern UI?
