  • Rails Multiple Models per Form, Optional FK Association

    - by ckarbass
Given the following pseudo-code: Company has_many :jobs Job belongs_to :company I'm creating a form to post a new job. In the form, I want to have two fields for an optional company. On submission, if a company was entered, I want to either create or update the company and associate it with the new job. I know if the company exists by searching the companies table for the company's url. Is it possible to do this using form_for, fields_for, and accepts_nested_attributes_for given the company may not exist?

  • Relationship Modelling in Core Data

    - by Stevie
Hi there, I'm fairly new to Objective C and Core Data and have a problem designing a case where players team up one-on-one and have multiple matches that end up with a specific result. With MySQL, I would have a Player table (player primary key, name) and a match table (player A foreign key, player B foreign key, result). Now how do I do this with Core Data? I can easily tie a player entity to a match entity using a relationship. But how do I model the inverse direction for the second player ref. in the match entity? Player Name: Attribute Match: Relationship Match Match Result: Attribute PlayerA: Relationship to Player (<- Inverse to Player.Match) PlayerB: Relationship to Player (<- Inverse to ????) Would be great if someone could give me an idea on this! Thanks, Stevie.

  • Model relationship types in cakePhP

    - by kwokwai
I have checked out the cookbook web site of cakephp that there are four types Model relationship: http://book.cakephp.org/view/79/Relationship-Types Since the one I am more familiar with is belongsTo, I am not sure when I need to use hasManay and HABTM. What will be the result to my web site if I used a wrong Model relationship type? Please advise.

  • Modelling a manyToMany relationship with attributes

    - by Javi
Hello, I have a ManyToMany relationship between two classes, for instance class Customer and class Item. A customer can buy several items and an item can be bought by different customers. I need to store extra information in this relationship, for example the day when the item was bought. I wonder how is this usually modelled in JPA, cause I'm not sure how to express this in code. Do I have to create a new class to model all the attributes of the relationship and make a manyToMany relationship between the other classes or is a better way to do this? Thanks

  • Entity Relationship Multiple 1:1's

    - by Evan
I have an application where I have a generic object (table) called Hull. Each hull in the table is unique. I have another object that has three hulls, but they are specifically the Port_Hull, Center_Hull and Starboard_Hull. Rather than create a One to Many relationship, I was trying to create a one to one relationship for each one, but this results in numerous errors unless I make the relationship from Hull to Vessel one to many (which it is not). Any idea how I go about this, or should I abandon the concept and make the vessel to hull relationship one to many and deal with lists that always have three entries? p.s. Using uniqueidentifiers as many users can be adding records while disconnected. Hull Table HullID uniqueidentifier (primary key) plus bunch of hull data fields Vessel Table VesselID uniqueidentifier (primary key) MainHullID uniqueidentifier (tried as key and non-key) PortHullID uniqueidentifier StarboardHullID uniqueidentifier plus bunch of Vessel data fields

  • How to query JDO persistent objects in unowned relationship model?

    - by Paul B
Hello, I'm trying to migrate my app from PHP and RDBMS (MySQL) to Google App Engine and have a hard time figuring out data model and relationships in JDO. In my current app I use a lot of JOIN queries like: SELECT users.name, comments.comment FROM users, comments WHERE users.user_id = comments.user_id AND users.email = '[email protected]' As I understand, JOIN queries are not supported in this way so the only(?) way to store data is using unowned relationships and "foreign" keys. There is a documentation regarding that, but no useful examples. So far I have something like this: @PersistenceCapable public class Users {     @PrimaryKey     @Persistent(valueStrategy = IdGeneratorStrategy.IDENTITY)     private Key key;     @Persistent     private String name;         @Persistent     private String email;         @Persistent     private Set<Key> commentKeys;     // Accessors... } @PersistenceCapable public class Comments {     @PrimaryKey     @Persistent(valueStrategy = IdGeneratorStrategy.IDENTITY)     private Key key;     @Persistent     private String comment;         @Persistent     private Date commentDate;     @Persistent     private Key userKey;     // Accessors... } So, how do I get a list with commenter's name, comment and date in one query? I see how I probably could get away with 3 queries but that seems wrong and would create unnecessary overhead. Please, help me out with some code examples. -- Paul.

  • Deleting objects with FK constraints in Spring/Hibernate

    - by maxdj
This seems like such a simple scenario to me, yet I cannot for the life of my find a solution online or in print. I have several objects like so (trimmed down): @Entity public class Group extends BaseObject implements Identifiable<Long> { private Long id; private String name; private Set<HiringManager> managers = new HashSet<HiringManager>(); private List<JobOpening> jobs; @ManyToMany(fetch=FetchType.EAGER) @JoinTable( name="group_hiringManager", joinColumns=@JoinColumn(name="group_id"), inverseJoinColumns=@JoinColumn(name="hiringManager_id") ) public Set<HiringManager> getManagers() { return managers; } @OneToMany(mappedBy="group", fetch=FetchType.EAGER) public List<JobOpening> getJobs() { return jobs; } } @Entity public class JobOpening extends BaseObject implements Identifiable<Long> { private Long id; private String name; private Group group; @ManyToOne @JoinColumn(name="group_id", updatable=false, nullable=true) public Group getGroup() { return group; } } @Entity public class HiringManager extends User { @ManyToMany(mappedBy="managers", fetch=FetchType.EAGER) public Set<Group> getGroups() { return groups; } } Say I want to delete a Group object. Now there are dependencies on it in the JobOpening table and in the group_hiringManager table, which cause the delete function to fail. I don't want to cascade the delete, because the managers have other groups, and the jobopenings can be groupless. I have tried overriding the remove() function of my GroupManager to remove the dependencies, but it seems like no matter what I do they persist, and the delete fails! What is the right way to remove this object?

  • MySQL: Creating table with FK error (errno 150)

    - by Peter Bailey
I've tried searching on this error and nothing I've found helps me, so I apologize in advance if this is a duplicate and I'm just too dumb to find it. I've created a model with MySQL Workbench and am now attempting to install it to a mysql server. Using File Export Forward Engineer SQL CREATE Script... it outputs a nice big file for me, with all the settings I ask for. I switch over to MySQL GUI Tools (the Query Browser specifically) and load up this script (note that I'm going form one official MySQL tool to another). However, when I try to actually execute this file, I get the same error over and over SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 1005 Can't create table './srs_dev/location.frm' (errno: 150) "OK", I say to myself, something is wrong with the location table. So I check out the definition in the output file. SET @OLD_UNIQUE_CHECKS=@@UNIQUE_CHECKS, UNIQUE_CHECKS=0; SET @OLD_FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS=@@FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS, FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS=0; SET @OLD_SQL_MODE=@@SQL_MODE, SQL_MODE='TRADITIONAL'; -- ----------------------------------------------------- -- Table `state` -- ----------------------------------------------------- DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `state` ; CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `state` ( `state_id` INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT , `iso_3166_2_code` VARCHAR(2) NOT NULL , `name` VARCHAR(60) NOT NULL , PRIMARY KEY (`state_id`) ) ENGINE = InnoDB; -- ----------------------------------------------------- -- Table `brand` -- ----------------------------------------------------- DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `brand` ; CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `brand` ( `brand_id` INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT , `name` VARCHAR(45) NOT NULL , `domain` VARCHAR(45) NOT NULL , `manager_name` VARCHAR(100) NULL , `manager_email` VARCHAR(255) NULL , PRIMARY KEY (`brand_id`) ) ENGINE = InnoDB; -- ----------------------------------------------------- -- Table `location` -- ----------------------------------------------------- DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `location` ; CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `location` ( `location_id` INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT , `name` VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL , `address_line_1` VARCHAR(255) NULL , `address_line_2` VARCHAR(255) NULL , `city` VARCHAR(100) NULL , `state_id` TINYINT UNSIGNED NULL DEFAULT NULL , `postal_code` VARCHAR(10) NULL , `phone_number` VARCHAR(20) NULL , `fax_number` VARCHAR(20) NULL , `lat` DECIMAL(9,6) NOT NULL , `lng` DECIMAL(9,6) NOT NULL , `contact_url` VARCHAR(255) NULL , `brand_id` TINYINT UNSIGNED NOT NULL , `summer_hours` VARCHAR(255) NULL , `winter_hours` VARCHAR(255) NULL , `after_hours_emergency` VARCHAR(255) NULL , `image_file_name` VARCHAR(100) NULL , `manager_name` VARCHAR(100) NULL , `manager_email` VARCHAR(255) NULL , `created_date` TIMESTAMP NOT NULL DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP , PRIMARY KEY (`location_id`) , CONSTRAINT `fk_location_state` FOREIGN KEY (`state_id` ) REFERENCES `state` (`state_id` ) ON DELETE NO ACTION ON UPDATE NO ACTION, CONSTRAINT `fk_location_brand` FOREIGN KEY (`brand_id` ) REFERENCES `brand` (`brand_id` ) ON DELETE NO ACTION ON UPDATE NO ACTION) ENGINE = InnoDB; CREATE INDEX `fk_location_state` ON `location` (`state_id` ASC) ; CREATE INDEX `fk_location_brand` ON `location` (`brand_id` ASC) ; CREATE INDEX `idx_lat` ON `location` (`lat` ASC) ; CREATE INDEX `idx_lng` ON `location` (`lng` ASC) ; Looks ok to me. I surmise that maybe something is wrong with the Query Browser, so I put this file on the server and try to load it this way ] mysql -u admin -p -D dbname < path/to/create_file.sql And I get the same error. So I start to Google this issue and find all kinds of accounts that talk about an error with InnoDB style tables that fail with foreign keys, and the fix is to add "SET FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS=0;" to the SQL script. Well, as you can see, that's already part of the file that MySQL Workbench spat out. So, my question is then, why is this not working when I'm doing what I think I'm supposed to be doing? • has_many :through when join table doesn't contain FK to both tables

    - by seth.vargo
I have a structure that isn't really a has_many :through example, but I'd like it to behave like one: # user.rb belongs_to :blog has_many :posts # post.rb belongs_to :user # blog.rb has_many :users has_many :posts, :through => :users # this obviously doesn't work becase # both FKs aren't in the blogs table I want to get ALL posts for a blog in an array. I'm aware that I can do this with Ruby using each or getting fancy with collect, but I'd like to let SQL do the work. Can someone explain how I can set up my models in a way that lets me call @blog.posts using SQL, not Ruby? Edit: I know in SQL I can write something like: SELECT * FROM posts WHERE posts.user_id IN ( SELECT users.id FROM users WHERE users.blog_id = 7 ) which obviously shows two queries are needed. I don't think this is possible with a join, but I'm not totally sure. It's obvious that a subquery is needed, but how do I get rails to build that subquery with ARel instead of having to return and use Ruby to loop and collect and such?

  • mysql composite unique on FK's

    - by m2o
I want to implement the following constraints in mysql: create table TypeMapping( ... constraint unique(server_id,type_id), constraint foreign key(server_id) references Server(id), constraint foreign key(type_id) references Type(id) ); This throws a 'ERROR 1062 (23000): Duplicate entry '3-4' for key 'server_id'' when I issue an insert/update that would break the constraint. Is this type of constraint even possible? If so how? Thank you.

  • how do I get foreign_key to work in this simple has_many, belongs_to relationship?

    - by rpflo
    I'm pulling data from Harvest. Here are my two models and schema: # schema create_table "clients", :force => true do |t| t.string "name" t.integer "harvest_id" end create_table "projects", :force => true do |t| t.string "name" t.integer "client_id" t.integer "harvest_id" end # Client.rb has_many :projects, :foreign_key => 'client_id' # not needed, I know # Project.rb belongs_to :client, :foreign_key => 'harvest_id' I'm trying to get the Projects to find their client by matching Project.client_id to a Client.harvest_id. Here is what I'm getting instead. > Project.first.client_id => 187259 Project.first.client => nil Client.find(187259).projects => [] Is this possible? Thanks!

I would like to delete the ICollection PriceBreaks from Product. I'm using the following method. However they dont seem to delete. What am i missing. • Linq to SQL duplicating entry when referencing FK

    - by Oscar
Hi! I am still facing some problems when using LINQ-to-SQL. I am also looking for answers by myself, but this problem is so akward that I am having problems to find the right keywords to look for it. I have this code here: public CustomTask SaveTask(string token, CustomTask task) { TrackingDataContext dataConext = new TrackingDataContext(); //Check the token for security if (SessionTokenBase.Instance.ExistsToken(Convert.ToInt32(token)) == null) return null; //Populates the Task - the "real" Linq to SQL object Task t = new Task(); t.Title = task.Title; t.Description = task.Description; //****The next 4 lines are important**** if (task.Severity != null) t.Severity = task.Severity; else t.SeverityID = task.SeverityID; t.StateID = task.StateID; if (task.TeamMember != null) t.TeamMember = task.TeamMember; else t.ReporterID = task.ReporterID; if (task.ReporterTeam != null) t.Team = task.ReporterTeam; else t.ReporterTeamID = task.ReporterTeamID; //Saves/Updates the task dataConext.Tasks.InsertOnSubmit(t); dataConext.SubmitChanges(); task.ID = t.ID; return task; } The problem is that I am sending the ID of the severity, and then, when I get this situation: DB State before calling the method: ID Name 1 high 2 medium 3 low Call the method selecting "medium" as severity DB State after calling the method: ID Name 1 high 2 medium 3 low 4 medium The point is: -It identified that the ID was related to the Medium entry (and for this reason it could populate the "Name" Column correctly), but if duplicated this entry. The problem is: Why?!! Some explanation about the code: CustomTask is almost the same as Task, but I was having problems regarding serialization as can be seen here I don't want to send the Severity property populated because I want my message to be as small as possible. Could anyone clear to my, why it recognize the entry, but creates a new entry in the DB?

  • Linq to Entities (EF): How to get the value of a FK without doing the join

    - by Chu
I'm using the Linq to Entities. I've got my main table, Employee setup with a field named vendorID. Vendor ID is a foreign key into the Vendors table. As it is right now, the Employee object does not directly expose the vendorID. Instead, I can only access it this way: var employee = (from e in context.Employees.Include("tbl_vendors") where e.employeeID = 1 select e).FirstOrDefault(); //this gets the vendor ID int vendorID = employee.tbl_vendors.vendorID; That is just fine and dandy, but it is extra work on the database because it is forcing a join where none is needed. Is there a way to get that key value without being forced to do a join to the tbl_vendors table?

  • Many-to-Many Relationship (with properties) in Google App Engine for Java

    - by rvandervort
I understand from the official documentation on unowned relationships that the app must use sets of Key objects on either side of the relationship. This makes perfect sense. Coming from many years of RDBM-style programming, though, I'm pretty confused about how I can model properties of that relationship itself. For example, if I have entities Category and Entry in my many-to-many relationship and would like to persist a dateAdded property, or some other data that are only relevant when both sides of the relationship are known. I suppose it would be possible to create a third class : CategoryEntry that links the two, but this seems like a kludge. What is the proposed way to model this kind of situation ?

  • Entity Framework won't SaveChanges on new entity with two-level relationship

    - by Tim Rourke
I'm building an ASP.NET MVC site using the ADO.NET Entity Framework. I have an entity model that includes these entities, associated by foreign keys: Report(ID, Date, Heading, Report_Type_ID, etc.) SubReport(ID, ReportText, etc.) - one-to-one relationship with Report. ReportSource(ID, Name, Description) - one-to-many relationship with Sub_Report. ReportSourceType(ID, Name, Description) - one-to-many relationship with ReportSource. Contact (ID, Name, Address, etc.) - one-to-one relationship with Report_Source. There is a Create.aspx page for each type of SubReport. The post event method returns a new Sub_Report entity. Before, in my post method, I followed this process: Set the properties for a new Report entity from the page's fields. Set the SubReport entity's specific properties from the page's fields. Set the SubReport entity's Report to the new Report entity created in 1. Given an ID provided by the page, look up the ReportSource and set the Sub_Report entity's ReportSource to the found entity. SaveChanges. This workflow succeeded just fine for a couple of weeks. Then last week something changed and it doesn't work any more. Now instead of the save operation, I get this Exception: UpdateException: "Entities in 'DIR2_5Entities.ReportSourceSet' participate in the 'FK_ReportSources_ReportSourceTypes' relationship. 0 related 'ReportSourceTypes' were found. 1 'Report_Source_Types' is expected." The debug visualizer shows the following: The SubReport's ReportSource is set and loaded, and all of its properties are correct. The Report_Source has a valid ReportSourceType entity attached. In SQL Profiler the prepared SQL statement looks OK. Can anybody point me to what obvious thing I'm missing? TIA Notes: The Report and SubReport are always new entities in this case. The Report entity contains properties common to many types of reports and is used for generic queries. SubReports are specific reports with extra parameters varying by type. There is actually a different entity set for each type of SubReport, but this question applies to all of them, so I use SubReport as a simplified example.

  • Batch faulting in a to-many relationship for a collection of objects

    - by indragie
Scenario: Let's say I have an entity called Author that has a to-many relationship called books to the Book entity (inverse relationship author). If I have an existing collection of Author objects, I want to fault in the books relationship for all of them in a single fetch request. Code This is what I've tried so far: NSArray *authors = ... // array of `Author` objects NSFetchRequest *fetchRequest = [NSFetchRequest fetchRequestWithEntityName:@"Book"]; fetchRequest.returnsObjectsAsFaults = NO; fetchRequest.predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"author IN %@", authors]; Executing this fetch request does not result in the books relationship of the objects in the authors array being faulted in (inspected via logging). I've also tried doing the fetch request the other way around: NSArray *authors = ... // array of `Author` objects NSFetchRequest *fetchRequest = [NSFetchRequest fetchRequestWithEntityName:@"Author"]; fetchRequest.returnsObjectsAsFaults = NO; fetchRequest.predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"SELF IN %@", authors]; fetchRequest.relationshipKeypathsForPrefetching = @[@"books"]; This doesn't fire the faults either. What's the appropriate way of going about doing this?

  • Save many-to-one relationship from JSON into Core Data

    - by Snow Crash
I'm wanting to save a Many-to-one relationship parsed from JSON into Core Data. The code that parses the JSON and does the insert into Core Data looks like this: for (NSDictionary *thisRecipe in recipes) { Recipe *recipe = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Recipe" inManagedObjectContext:insertionContext]; recipe.title = [thisRecipe objectForKey:@"Title"]; NSDictionary *ingredientsForRecipe = [thisRecipe objectForKey:@"Ingredients"]; NSArray *ingredientsArray = [ingredientsForRecipe objectForKey:@"Results"]; for (NSDictionary *thisIngredient in ingredientsArray) { Ingredient *ingredient = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Ingredient" inManagedObjectContext:insertionContext]; ingredient.name = [thisIngredient objectForKey:@"Name"]; } } NSSet *ingredientsSet = [NSSet ingredientsArray]; [recipe setIngredients:ingredientsSet]; Notes: "setIngredients" is a Core Data generated accessor method. There is a many-to-one relationship between Ingredients and Recipe However, when I run this I get the following error: NSCFDictionary managedObjectContext]: unrecognized selector sent to instance If I remove the last line (i.e. [recipe setIngredients:ingredientsSet];) then, taking a peek at the SQLite database, I see the Recipe and Ingredients have been stored but no relationship has been created between Recipe and Ingredients Any suggestions as to how to ensure the relationship is stored correctly?

  • Hibernate: Parent/Child relationship in a single-table

    - by Dee
I hardly see any pointer on the following problem related to Hibernate. This pertains to implementing inheritance using a single database table with a parent-child relationship to itself. For example: CREATE TABLE Employee ( empId BIGINT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, empName VARCHAR(100) NOT NULL, managerId BIGINT, CONSTRAINT pk_employee PRIMARY KEY (empId) ) Here, the managerId column may be null, or may point to another row of the Employee table. Business rule requires the Employee to know about all his reportees and for him to know about his/her manager. The business rules also allow rows to have null managerId (the CEO of the organisation doesn't have a manager). How do we map this relationship in Hibernate, standard many-to-one relationship doesn't work here? Example code would be appreciated.
