• Convert doc/docx to semantic HTML

  I would like to convert doc/docx documents to semantic HTML. Some wishes/requirements: Semantic HTML such that headers in the document are <h1>, <h2> etc., tables are <table> and so forth. Should preferably be possible to handle headings, lists, tables and images. Graphs and math formulas is a nice extra. • Doesn't have to be converted straight from doc/docx to html, could use an intermediary format, such as xml or docbook. • Should work programatically, and with large number of documents. The closest thing to a solution I've found so far is http://holloway.co.nz/docvert/index.html, but unfortunately there are many a few bugs, small user base and it can't handle a lot of documents. More of a proof of concept.

• sIFR and multiple requests

  Hi! I've been using sIRF for a while but it was the first time I watch the traffic between the client and the server. There is only one file for sIRF, nyala.swf. I am using replacements for some headings, at most 5 or 6 at a time on one page. I can see from firebug the a separate request is going to server for the same swf file. I think I saw a config option to change this behavior but I couldn't find it again. Any ideas?

  I'm trying to write an auto-scaffolder for Index views. I'd like to be able to pass in a collection of models or view-models (e.g., IEnumerable<MyViewModel>) and get back an HTML table that uses the DisplayName attribute for the headings (th elements) and Html.Display(propertyName) for the cells (td elements). Each row should correspond to one item in the collection. When I'm only displaying a single record, as in a Details view, I use ViewData.ModelMetadata.Properties to obtain the list of properties for a given model. But what happens when the model I pass to the view is a collection of model or view-model objects and not a model or view-model itself? How do I obtain the ModelMetadata for a particular item in a collection?

  Hello - I am very, very, new to mySQL. I've got experience in general technical terms, but not with the syntax or concepts of mySQL. I have been tasked with exporting a table from MySQL into a pipe delimited .txt or .xls that I can use to add 7500 more records to manually, then import back into the table. I tried to use INTO OUTFILE, but I don't get column headings, which I need for reference to merge the new records. Is there a good resource that can explain this to a complete novice? I would usually go down to my bookstore and start learning, but I'm on a bit of a time crunch. Thanks all!

• animate rotation

  I'm trying to animate a rotation using CATransform3DMakeRotation, but the problem is once the animation is finished, the image goes back to its initial position, i.e back to zero. But I'd like to keep it where it finished rotating. How would I do that? edit What I'm trying to do is to create the same compass which comes with the new iPhone. Basically the locationmanager gives me new headings every few seconds (or several per second). Using the new heading and the timestamp, I was trying to get a smooth animation of the image but not getting anywhere. The only thing which seems to work is applying the transform directly, e.g. compassimage.layer.transform = CATransform3DMakeRotation(newHeading.trueHeading *M_PI/180,0,0,1.0): but that's not animated...

• How to determine what in my script is blocking my HTML rendering?

  I have a web application that uses quite a bit of JavaScript. When the page loads, it's very clear visually that something is blocking the rendering of a particular portion of the web site. This portion is generated by a Tabber Tabify JavaScript library. How can I determine what's blocking the HTML rendering specifically so that I can modify my code to prevent this blocking? Can I use Firebug, or some other tool, to walk through my HTML/JavaScript to determine where the HTML rendering is being blocked and if so, how? UPDATE: YSlow gives my web-application a score of "A" and Page Speed give a score of 94/100. UPDATE 2: The live site is linked below. http://www.uptownelite.com/index.uncompressed.html?city=Dallas,TX What I'm specifically referring too is the actual Tabs themselves being rendering (and NOT the panel content inside the tab panes). It seems strange to me that the Tab headings themselves are taking so long to generate on the first (empty cache) page load.

• Javascript Grid that can handle sections in a table

  I am making an ASP.NET MVC application that lets a user design a questionnaire that other users can fill out. Now, questionnaires, rather than just having a list of questions, often have sections or subsections that could have headings and not the other columns that an ordinary row (a question) would have. I want a JS Grid that can handle sections and subsections elegantly. I tried using JQGrid, but there the options I have are limited to a "Grid as Subgrid" structure. The appearance becomes quite complex and unlike a questionnaire. Is there a Javascript Grid or a JQuery plugin that can handle this? I can write my own HTML table as long as the JS app will format the table and will add some user-friendliness to the table.

  I'm working with docx docs, and I need to parse a document into sections on the basis of headings styled with the "heading 1" style. So if I had a doc like this (markup is pseudocode): <doc> <title style>Doc Title</title style> <heading1>First Section</heading1> ... <heading2>Second Section</heading2> ... <heading3>Third Section</heading3> ... </doc> I'd want to break this into a doc with four sections, the first being the content that precedes the first section. • Adjusting for compass wrap around in a navigation application

  I have a application where I am guiding a vehicle on compass headings and I am having an issue when the vehicle is crossing from 360 degrees to 0 degrees. In this case, there are no smarts in the control loop to compute that the nearest way to turn to follow a heading. For example, if the vehicle is instructed to follow a heading of 360 degrees, it will inevitably drifts a few degrees to ether side. If it drifts over to 0+ degrees, the control loop will go nuts and try to steer the vehicle all the way around to get it to 360 degrees again. Is there a graceful way to deal with this? The way the navigate function is written, I use an external PID controller class and I calculate the heading like this: lock (steering) { if (!Engaged) { return; } double mv = 90 + Trim + pidController.CalculateCorrection(flyHeading, currentHeading); steering.Degree = mv; } Thanks!

  Hi, I always see the th tag only used in the first row of the table. Is there some specific reason why it can't be used to create 'left' headers along the leftmost column. Is this bad form, or is this ok. Basically, a table with headings on the top row and the leftmost column, with the very top left square being empty. e.g. <table> <tr> <th/> <!--empty--> <th>Top 1</th> <th>Top 2</th></tr> <tr> <th>LeftHeader?</th> <td>data1</td> <td>data2</td></tr> </table>

• Can I add Controls that are not ListItems to a RadioButtonList?

  I need to provide a way to allow users to select 1 Subject, but the subjects are grouped into Qualifications and so I want to show a heading for each 'group'. My first thought is an asp:RadioButtonList as that provides a list of options from which only one can be selected but there's no means to add break the list up with headings. So I tried the following code - but I can't see that the LiteralControl is being added, which makes me think it's not a valid approach. • Excluding items from TOC in Sphinx (documenter)?

  I'm using sphinx to document our internal API. For each class we're listing methods and then sub-sections under each such as Description and Examples, etc. The Table of Contents is generated automatically in the sidebar, which is great except that it lists all the sub-sections. I am looking for a way to tell Sphinx to ignore certain headings when generating the TOC. I have scoured the docs but have not found what I need. I'm sure it's something I missed. Some advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

  Introduction Following on from the blog entry "Get an Offline or Online WebLogic Domain Summary Using WLST!", I have had a request to create a smaller example which only collects a selection of JDBC (System Resource) and JTA configuration and runtime MBeans values. So, here it is. Download Sample Script You can grab the sample script by clicking here. Instructions to Run: 1. After download, extract the zip to the machine hosting the WebLogic environment. You should have three directories along with a readme.txt output Sample_Output scripts 2. In the scripts directory, find the start wrapper script startWLSTJDBCSummarizer.sh (Unix) or startWLSTJDBCSummarizer.cmd (MS Windows). Open the appropriate file in an editor and change the environment variable settings to suit your system. • Should CSS be listed on your resume under Languages?

  I have some doubts like Whether CSS should be put under Languages or not? Although Wikipedia says Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a style sheet language ... But do they write CSS under the languages section of the resume, along with PHP, etc? Similarly what about HTML? I have some doubt and I don't want to sound like someone who is not aware of the trends. Just to give an example, currently I have the following languages,frameworks, technologies, etc. listed under the "Technical Expertise" section of my resume - Technical Expertise * Languages - Proficient - PHP 5, Javascript, HTML ?*,CSS ?*,Sass ?*. Beginner - Linux Bash. * Databases - MySQL 5. * Technologies - AJAX. * Frameworks/Libraries - Symfony, jQuery. * CMSes - Wordpress. Although my domain is Web-development/design, I welcome domain-agnostic answers which can provide some generic ideas/reasoning. I have seen, a lot of people messing up these sections (even more serious than my doubts :) ), putting things under wrong sub-headings and thus putting a big question mark on their understanding of those things. I don't know much about XML, Comet Technology etc. Considering those are included too, What things should be put under Languages? E.g. Should CSS be put under Languages? Please give some reasoning to support your views. Where should the others (XML, Comet, cURL etc. ) be put? I welcome some examples of how you put it. Or do you have an additional Keywords section where you write all the unsortables ? Considering a set of standards like W3C standards, etc. do you have a standards sub-heading? I guess I have put the contents of other sections Okay. But do let me know about your ideas and reasoning. • What should filenames and URLs of images contain for SEO benefit?

  We know that good site architecture usually looks like this: example-company.com/ example-company.com/about/ example-company.com/contact/ example-company.com/products/ example-company.com/products/category/ example-company.com/products/category/productname/ Now, when it comes to Google Image search, it is clear that the img alt tag, filename/URL, and surrounding text (captions, headings, paragraphs) have an effect on ranking. I want to ask about the filename of the images that we should use (e.g. product-photo.jpg). ...but first about the URL: Often web developers stick all images in a single folder in the root: example-company.com/img/ — and I have stopped doing that. (I don't want to get into it, but basically, it seems more semantic for images which make up part of the content at each sub-directory) However, when all images appear in a folder, I feel that their filename needs to reflect what they are a bit more than usual, for example: example-company.com/img/example-company-productname-category.jpg It's a longer filename than just product.png, but as long as it's relevant, I see no problem with regards to SEO (unless you're keyword stuffing), and it could even help rank for keywords: "example company" "productname" "category" So no questions there. But what about when we have places images in the site architecture we outlined at the beginning? In other words, what if image URL paths look like this: example-company.com/products/category/productname/productname.jpg My question is, should the URL be kept short like above and only have the "productname" (and some descriptive keywords) as part of it's filename? Or, should it also include the "example-company" and "category"? Like so: example-company.com/products/category/productname/example-company-category-productname.jpg That seems much longer, and redundant when we look at the URL, but here are a few considerations. Images are often downloaded onto computers, and, to the average user, they lose their original URL and thus — it isn't clear where they came from. Also, some social networks, forums, and other platforms leave the filename intact when uploaded. (Many others rewrite it, for example, Pinterest and Facebook.) Another consideration, will this really help (even if ever so slightly) rank in Google Image Search, or at least inform Google that the product is something specific to the "example-company"? For example, what if this product can only be bought at this store and is the flagship product? In addition to an abundance of internal links to this product page, would having the "example company" name and "category" help it appear in "example company" searches? In other words, is less more?

  The installation notes (git://gitorious.org/python-markdown/mainline.git) say in the file using_as_module.txt One of the parameters that you can pass is a list of Extensions. Extensions must be available as python modules either within the markdown.extensions package or on your PYTHONPATH with names starting with mdx_, followed by the name of the extension. Thus, extensions=['footnotes'] will first look for the module markdown.extensions.footnotes, then a module named mdx_footnotes. See the documentation specific to the extension you are using for help in specifying configuration settings for that extension. I put the folder "extensions" to ~/bin/python/ such that my PYTHONPATH is the following export PYTHONPATH=/Users/masi/bin/python/:/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/ The instructions say that I need to import the addons such that import markdown import <module-name> However, I cannot see any module in my Python. This suggests me that the extensions are not available as "python modules - - on [my] PYTHONPATH with names starting with mdx_ - -." How can you get Markdown's extensions to work? 2nd attempt I run at ~/bin/markdown git clone git://gitorious.org/python-markdown/mainline.git python-markdown cd python-markdown python setup.py install I put the folder /Users/masi/bin/markdown/python-markdown/build to my PATH because the installation message suggests me that is the new location of the extensions. I have the following in a test markdown -document [TOC] -- headings here with # -format --- However, I do not get the table of contents. This suggests me that we need to somehow activate the extensions when we compile by the markdown.py -script. **The problem returns to my first quoted text which I is rather confusing to me.

• EXCEL generate a character in one column of a row, only if other columns in the same row are not bl

  My speadsheet keeps track of when patients leave a specific floor of the hospital. There are columns in which where each patient goes is documented (1 column for "home", another column for "rehab facility", another for "other floor", etc.). Only when the patient leaves the hospital altogether does it count as a discharge, in which case the “discharge” column needs to have something in it. What formula can I use to generate, say, an "x" in the "discharge" column if certain "where they went" columns in the same row contain something, but not if there is nothing in any of them? Currently, to accomplish this I am using =IF(OR(M30,N30,O30,P30,Q30,R30,S30),"x") in row 3 of the "discharge" column (rows 1 and 2 are headings), and I have used "fill down" in all subsequent rows. To suppress the "FALSE" this formula yields when the condition is not true, I have applied conditonal formatting to the entire column that if the value=FALSE then the font is white (same colour as background). Is there a more efficient, elegant and idiot-proof way of doing this? The conditional formatting of text colour could potentially confuse everyone but the person who built the spreadsheet (me).

• Document Map in MS Word 2007 going bonkers

  I'm working on a large project report in Microsoft Word 2007 and have been using the document map to generate the index. I have been carefully selecting the headers that need to be added to the document map but I saved the document and opened it up today to work on it - the document map has added whatever it pleases there. This is a temporary fix from a post that I found after extensive searching that works, but when I save and close the document and open it up again I face the same dilemma: I have noticed that when Word stuffs up the document map after opening the file, I can undo this by using the UNDO button. Word calls it ’Autoformat’. I have also fixed a file that has had the document map screwed permanently (i.e saved with it) by selecting all (CTRL+A),selecting the PARAGRAPH drop down menu in the HOME TAB and in the OUTLINE drop down box, selecting ’Body Text’. This removed all the problems and did not seem to affect my outline level paragraph headings. This is also another temporary fix but I have to be on my toes not to let Word auto format at the start of the document. I also can't afford to entirely turn off auto format as I need it. I’ve solved this problem for me. When you open the file, a progress bar at the bottom first says Opening (ESC to Cancel) and then it says Word is formatting the document (ESC to Cancel). If I cancel the second process, TOC fine. No cancelling, TOC screwed. Can anyone work out how to switch off the autoformatting? This is the post in which i found for the temporary fix
