• In Visio 2010, how can I create a mandatory, non-identifying relationship between two database tables

  I'm working in MS Visio 2010. This is the relevant part of my ERD: The relationship between Event and Adventure is correct: there's a foreign key from Event to Adventure, and that FK is part of Event's primary key. However, what I can't figure out is how to make the relationship line from Adventure to AccomodationType be the same, without making that relationship part of the PK of adventure. When I look at the 'Miscellaneous' properties of that relationship line, I want it to be: Cardinality: Zero or more Relationship type: Non-identifying Child has parent: Not optional (mandatory) But the checkbox for the third property is greyed out, and toggles between True/False as I make the relationship Non-identifying/Identifying. The only way I could figure out was to disconnect the two columns, from the 'Definition' tab, which then un-grey's the 'Optional' checkbox, but then I lose the foreign key property on the accomType column, and while the relationship symbols are correct, the line remains dotted. Any ideas, anyone?

• Vanishing Windows Desktop Shortcut Keys

  The Situation Like you, I have many applications that I like to open. I've set up keyboard shortcuts for the most common, by placing a link on the desktop and setting its Shortcut Key property: This is all fine and dandy, most of the time. When I want to bring up the GIMP, I press Ctrl+Alt+G and the GIMP launches. Lovely. The Problem Sometimes--perhaps once a month per desktop shortcut--the shortcut key assignment simply vanishes. I press Ctrl+Alt+G and nothing happens, so I go check the shortcut and see that lo and behold: nothing is there. This happens regularly to all my shortcuts (not all at once). It doesn't matter what keys I assign, and there doesn't seem to be any correlation with particular applications being open or anything of that sort. This has happened on every Windows XP machine I've ever used with any regularity. Obviously what makes this issue particularly obnoxious is that it's not easily reproducible. I have searched long and hard for a solution for (or at least acknowledgement of) this problem, to no avail, so hopefully you guys know something that I don't. I did find this question, where the answers are all basically "use a third-party app", but as far as I could tell that was a slightly different issue, related to Explorer being busy. If the solution for this turns out to be the same, fine, but I'd prefer a native fix if at all possible. Note: I've tagged this with Windows in general because I seem to remember it happening on Windows 7 as well as XP, but I rarely notice it because I use the start-menu search in preference to desktop shortcuts.

• Outlook conversation view and categories

  At work, I tend to receive a couple of hundred emails a day. To keep from being overwhelmed, I have been using categories to sort and prioritize my mail messages. I auto-assign categories, then group by them: Code Reviews, To, CC, Distribution List/BCC. This means that, for example, a message that's explicitly to me will always show up higher in my inbox than one I get because I'm on a Distribution List. It's a huge time saver and it brings important emails to my attention much more quickly. Recently, the email threads I'm involved in have started to get quite long, and I'd like to be able to use conversation view, or at least sort by subject. Outlook, however, doesn't seem to support any (useful) combination of conversation view and categories. I've tried the following things without success: Grouping by category, then conversation view -- Outlook gives me an error (the grouping/sort combination is too complex). Using a custom view to group by conversation -- category doesn't show up as an option to sort by Grouping by category, then subject -- Getting closer, but the top subject is the first alphabetically, not the most recent Grouping by conversation, then category -- This works, but it doesn't do me much good, because the top conversation is the latest, without regard to what category it belongs to Is there a way for me to retain my category system or something similar while taking advantage of grouping related emails together? I've written Outlook plugins in the past, so even that's not too out there to serve as a proper solution.

• Swapping 3Ware Raid Card - Best Procedure

  We have a server running an old firmware version and driver (just took this position) on the 3Ware 9650SE Raid Controller... We have been having issues with the server and seemed to have narrowed it down to the Raid Card... I will be replacing the Raid card with the same model of 3Ware 9650SE, however, the card ordered most likely will have newer firmware on it. I managed to backup all the data to a very large drive. My plan is to update the firmware/driver on the current setup (which is still booting) and verify that everything works.. Then throw in the new Raid Card, check the firmware version (not letting it post). And update to newest firmware if needed via Java management utility on the card? Is this the best route? Thanks!

  I just want to know how to synchronize my Outlook 2010 calender to sharepoint 2010 website. I am able to synchronize sharepoint calender into my Outlook calender but not able to do Outlook calender (meetings, Data) into sharpoint Calender. When my office people go into our intranet site, I just want them to see my calender in sharepoint which updates the data from Outlook calender and displays it but this calender data on sharepoint calender should only be read only to other users.   I have tried disabling firing wall and checked sqlbrowser is started but for some reason I cannnot connect to my datbase... called server_name\sqlexpress.. I have a virtual machine and a full scale MS SQL Server 2008 R2 running on it... and I have several other vm running sqlexpress. they run fine and I can connect to them using sqlexpress... but when i try to access from sqlserver... I get this error. A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. • Issue with multiple bridging for KVM hosts

  I'm using KVM and libvirt on my host (Debian lenny) + 2 bridges per guest (one for mgmt, one for public traffic). That setup isn't stable at all, sometimes I can do pings to a management ip, sometimes not. I don't know if my bridging paramateres are correct, could you check ? or if there is anything wrong ... Please also note that interface on guest doesn't flap and that I got not logs on my host. Can someone point me in the right direction? The routers are consumer-grade linksys routers, is it possible to do this without getting new hardware? 2) For security, we will probably upgrade to WPA2, and I'm thinking of using the Enterprise version so that users can log in with a username, instead of having a single key (so if an employee leaves or something, their access can be removed). We have several on-site Windows servers, can one of them be set up as a RADIUS server, or is that best left to a dedicated machine (again, using existing hardware is good).

• Applications randomly alt-tab? (especially full screen games)

  I'm not sure when this began, how it happens, or why it happens, but it is quite bothersome and apparently random. Just randomly throughout the day my computer will just go to the desktop. I could be in a full screen game and it will just immediately alt tab and present the desktop. Or I could be watching a movie and this happens. Sometimes it happens once every three hours and other times (just today actually) it did it twice in the span of 30 seconds. I am positive I am not pressing a hotkey because I launched a game, sat idle, and noticed it alt tab while cleaning up around my room after about 20 minutes. Sometimes it goes days without this happening. Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit, 10 gigs of RAM, GeForce GTX 260, Intel Xeon CPU. I also have basically nothing running when it happens other than the game and FireFox. My FireFox add-ons: Adblock Plus, Download Statusbar, Firebug, FirePHP, lazarus form recovery, tree-style-tabs, yslow. I doubt FireFox is causing the issue but I figured I'd include it anyway because it is the only application I have running when it happens. As for user processes I have running: VCDDaemon (context menu for virtual clone drive), razerhid (mouse), OSD, taskhost, dmw (desktop window manager), anyfullscreengame, audiorepeater, netsession_win, explorer, razerofa, tsvncache, firefox, plugin-container, and EKIJ5000MUI (printer). Whew. Okay. That was a lot of information. If someone could diagnose this I would be most grateful for this has been around with me for years.. Thanks for reading! PS: I doubt it's a virus because I never download illegal software and pretty much only browse Reddit and Stackexchange and play games. If it was a virus it would be a pretty lame one.. Hah..

• MegaCli newly created disk doesn't appear under /dev/sdX

  After having successfully added 2 new disks in a new RAID virtual drive (background initialization done), I would have exepected it to appear under /dev/sdh but it's not there (so, unusable). The system is running a CentOS 5.2 64 bits, HAL and udev daemons are running, not records of any sdh apparition under the messsage log file or in dmesg, only MegaCli do see that virtual drive. Any idea ? • Cannot deploy reports on localhost/reports

  I am using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, Sql Server Reporting Services(SSRS) on an xp virtual machine.. I have created a report and am trying to deploy it... but getting this error... The specified report server URL http://localhost/Reports could not be found. Verify the syntax of the URL and that the report server exists. I went to see my "services".... SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) is "started", but SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) is not. When I try to start it, it says windows could not start the sql server on local computer error code 10048 I tried to go in cmd and tried C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe -sMSSQLSERVER I get this, Server Error: 17058, Severity: 16, State: 1. can someone please help me...

• Host Name Resolution - ISA 2006 - VPN PPTP

  We are running an ISA 2006 server and PPTP VPN connection works fine. Clients are able to connect to internet, access Outlook, CRM, etc. The problem we are encountering is that host name resolution is not working. Example, when connected via VPN I can’t ping any box other than the VPN server by the host name. Nslookup also fails. I can ping everything fine via IP address. But for clients, they need to be able to access their “mapped” drives over the VPN which all are mapped by host name. I recently took over this position and it sounds like this used to work. What would be the best place to check first? I haven’t had much exposure to ISA and have been reading up a bit on installation procedures, etc. DNS is hosted and running on our domain controller, as well as WINS. It isn’t on the ISA box. Is there a firewall policy that perhaps got removed? What usually is required for host name resolution to pass through. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

  Is the root directory where all files are kept (directly from accessing from FTP) always "www" or "public_html" depending on what OS? Or is it possible to rename this folder? • How can I restore my laptop from Windows 7 to its original Windows Vista recovery partition?

  I bought my Acer laptop 4 years ago with Vista Home Premium x86. It has a recovery partition that I have used successfully in the past to format everything and reinstall Windows to factory settings. I have since upgraded to Windows 7, but I now need to get back to my original installation. Not sure what it's called, but I can successfully get into this recovery thingy: However, when I click the third option (for me I think it says 'Windows Image Recovery' or something like that) it tells me that it can't find any images to recover from :( I have checked and I don't have a windows.old that I can recover from either. One final note, if I launch diskmgmt.msc, these are the partitions: Why is the first partition shaded? Does that mean anything? Both of the 'unlettered' partitions are 100% empty. Did the Windows 7 upgrade process format my Vista system recovery partition?! And finally: How can I get back to my factory settings? EDIT: I did see this question, but neither of the answers apply to my situation. Edit to address jdh's answer: From what I can tell, I never get the option to boot the Vista recovery partition. After hitting F10, I get this screen, except it's partition 2, and I don't have the IN/MINT bit: I hit Escape, and then I get this screen, except without Ubuntu listed, and without the auto-countdown thing: I hit F8, and then I get this screen: I hit Enter on the first option, I end up at the screen in the first screen shot. As I said, from there I click the third option, and it fails to find the image, which I guess makes sense if it's only looking for a Windows 7 recovery. So I either need to make the Windows 7 tool see the Vista recovery partition, or I need the boot loader (?) to let me select Vista earlier in the process. Any ideas?

• Windows 7 Virtual PC + Linux Ubuntu

  I've installed Ubuntu inside a virtual machine running on Windows 7's Virtual PC. One thing I've noticed right away is that it has to capture the mouse and not all the hardware works as expected. I didn't have such problems in my virtual Windows XP. Is there anything I need to do to either Virtual PC or within Ubuntu that will get them to cooperate as well as Windows XP seems to?
