  • How do I force SSL for some URLs and force non-SSL for all others?

    - by brad
I'd like to ensure that certain URLs on my site are always accessed via HTTPS while all other URLs are accessed via HTTP. I can get either case working in my .htaccess file, however if I enable both, then I get infinite redirects. My .htaccess file is: <IfModule mod_expires.c> # turn off the module for this directory ExpiresActive off </IfModule> Options +FollowSymLinks AddHandler application/x-httpd-php .csv RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^/?registration(.*)$ /register$1 [R=301,L] # Force SSL for certain URL's RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} (login|register|account) RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L] # Force non-SSL for certain URL's RewriteCond %{HTTPS} on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(login|register|account) RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L] # Force files ending in X to use same protocol as initial request RewriteRule \.(gif|jpg|jpeg|jpe|png|ico|css|js)$ - [S=1] # Use index.php as the controller RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !\.(exe|css|js|jpe?g|gif|png|pdf|doc|txt|rtf|xls|swf|htc|ico)$ [NC] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^(/js.*)$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php [NC,L]

  • Favicon for all the pages in my website

    - by Senthil Kumar
I've learned that the way to add favicon for a web page is to have the following lines in the page. <link rel="SHORTCUT ICON" type="image/x-icon" href="http://mysite.com/faviconfilename.ico"/> <link rel="icon" type="image/x-icon" href="http://mysite.com/faviconfilename.ico" /> Should i add this code in each and every page my site has?? I use Apache - tomcat clustering to serve pages. Is there any other easy way to do this?

  • PowerShell – Show a Notification Balloon

    - by BuckWoody
In my presentations for PowerShell I sometimes want to start a process (like a backup) that will take some time. I normally pop up a notification “balloon” at the start, and then do the bulk of the work, and then pop up a balloon at the end to let me know it’s done. You can actually try out this little sample (on a test system, of course) without any other code to see what it does. Then just put the other PowerShell commands in the #Do Some Work part. Oh – throw an icon (.ico file) in a c:\temp directory or point that somewhere else. (No, this probably isn’t original. Can’t remember where I saw the original code, but I’ve modified it a bit anyway, so if you’re the original author and this looks slightly familiar, post a comment.) [void] [System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("System.Windows.Forms") $objBalloon = New-Object System.Windows.Forms.NotifyIcon $objBalloon.Icon = "C:\temp\Folder.ico" # You can use the value Info, Warning, Error $objBalloon.BalloonTipIcon = "Info" # Put what you want to say here for the Start of the process $objBalloon.BalloonTipTitle = "Begin Title" $objBalloon.BalloonTipText = "Begin Message" $objBalloon.Visible = $True $objBalloon.ShowBalloonTip(10000) # Do some work # Put what you want to say here for the completion of the process $objBalloon.BalloonTipTitle = "End Title" $objBalloon.BalloonTipText = "End Message" $objBalloon.Visible = $True $objBalloon.ShowBalloonTip(10000) Script Disclaimer, for people who need to be told this sort of thing: Never trust any script, including those that you find here, until you understand exactly what it does and how it will act on your systems. • Can I instruct the browser not to look for a favicon?

    - by Peter Boughton
I have a website that doesn't have/need a favicon. Is there a way to instruct the browser not to waste a request looking for /favicon.ico ? I don't mean filtering logs, but something client-side, like this: <link rel="shortcut icon" href="about:blank" /> That appears to work, but I'm not in a position to do comprehensive tests, (and search engines are being unhelpful). Can anyone confirm if this is a valid method, or provide a suitable alternative?

The webserver run just fine when we use the phpinfo.php test file. However as soon as I point it to my apps, nothing comes up. Check the error.log file and there's no error. Very mind boggling. I spent over 1 week trying to figure it out with no luck.. Please help?

  • Windows system restore deletes various executables and *.js files. How does it decide which files to delete?

    - by Leftium
I restored my system from a Windows System Restore point. It solved some issues I was having, but introduced other strange problems (like my optical drive disappeared). One thing that surprised me was several files from my Web2Py installation were deleted: the executables and *.js files; possibly some others (like favicon.ico). I did not expect this because Web2Py is basically a portable, standalone application. You just unzip it and run the executable inside, so nothing should be registered with Windows. My question is: what files does Windows system restore delete, and how does it decide this? I'm just wondering what other files I'm missing and if there's a way to get restore them (without rolling back the restore point). Perhaps it scans for certain files types (like exe, js, ico, dll) with a creation date that was after the restore point creation date? Some other people who experienced a similar problem: Dropbox: Lost Files User files missing after run system restore. update: I found some more references on how Windows System Restore works: Understanding how System Restore in Windows Vista treats executable files Why Vista's System Restore is Dangerous and What to do About it

  • Apache + Codeigniter + New Server + Unexpected Errors

    - by ngl5000
Alright here is the situation: I use to have my codeigniter site at bluehost were I did not have root access, I have since moved that site to rackspace. I have not changed any of the PHP code yet there has been some unexpected behavior. Unexpected Behavior: http://mysite.com/robots.txt Both old and new resolve to the robots file http://mysite.com/robots.txt/ The old bluehost setup resolves to my codeigniter 404 error page. The rackspace config resolves to: Not Found The requested URL /robots.txt/ was not found on this server. **This instance leads me to believe that there could be a problem with my mod rewrites or lack there of. The first one produces the error correctly through php while it seems the second senario lets the server handle this error. The next instance of this problem is even more troubling: 'http://mysite.com/search/term/9 x 1-1%2F2 white/' New site results in: Bad Request Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand. Old site results in: The actual page being loaded and the search term being unencoded. I have to assume that this has something to do with the fact that when I went to the new server I went from root level htaccess file to httpd.conf file and virtual server default and default-ssl. Here they are: Default file: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost ServerName mysite.com DocumentRoot /var/www <Directory /> Options +FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None </Directory> <Directory /var/www> Options -Indexes +FollowSymLinks -MultiViews AllowOverride None Order allow, deny allow from all RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / # force no www. This violates # the SSL/TLS standard but is needed for some brain-dead browsers. Use # this when you receive I/O errors because of the standard approach where # mod_ssl sends the close notify alert. # o ssl-accurate-shutdown: # This forces an accurate shutdown when the connection is closed, i.e. a # SSL close notify alert is send and mod_ssl waits for the close notify # alert of the client. This is 100% SSL/TLS standard compliant, but in # practice often causes hanging connections with brain-dead browsers. Use # this only for browsers where you know that their SSL implementation # works correctly. # Notice: Most problems of broken clients are also related to the HTTP # keep-alive facility, so you usually additionally want to disable # keep-alive for those clients, too. Use variable "nokeepalive" for this. # Similarly, one has to force some clients to use HTTP/1.0 to workaround # their broken HTTP/1.1 implementation. • Setting up subdomain to respond on :443 with apache2

    - by compucuke
I read through some guides on this and I believe it is possible to have apache respond to a subdomain through ssl. I have domain.com responding on 80 and I do not need domain.com responding on 443. Rather, the only use I have for ssl is for the subdomain sub.domain.com. So my site should be http://domain.com http://www.domain.com https://sub.domain.com https://www.sub.domain.com My CNAME records are as follows sub.domain.com xxx.xx.xx.xxx *.sub.domain.com xxx.xx.xx.xxx The A record exists but should not matter for the example. I set up a separate config file in sites-enabled for sub.domain.com NameVirtualHost xxx.xx.xx.xxx:443 <VirtualHost xxx.xx.xx.xxx:443> SSLEngine on SSLStrictSNIVHostCheck on SSLProtocol -ALL +SSLv3 +TLSv1 SSLCipherSuite ALL:!aNULL:!ADH:!eNULL:!LOW:!EXP:RC4+RSA:+HIGH:-MEDIUM ServerAlias sub.domain.com DocumentRoot /usr/local/www/ssl/documents/ SSLCertificateFile /root/sub.domain.com.crt SSLCertificateKeyFile /root/sub.domain.com.key Alias /robots.txt /usr/local/www/ssl/documents/robots.txt Alias /favicon.ico /usr/local/www/ssl/documents/favicon.ico Alias /js/libs /usr/local/www/ssl/documents/js/libs Alias /media/ /usr/local/www/documents/media/ Alias /img/ /usr/local/www/ssl/documents/img/ Alias /css/ /usr/local/www/ssl/documents/css/ <Directory /usr/local/www/ssl/documents/> Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> WSGIDaemonProcess sub.domain.com processes=2 threads=7 display-name=%{GROUP} WSGIProcessGroup sub.domain.com WSGIScriptAlias / /usr/local/www/wsgi-scripts/script.wsgi <Directory /usr/local/www/wsgi-scripts> Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> Now, it is important to mention that https://domain.com responds with what I have running from script.wsgi above instead of on https://sub.domain.com. It does not respond to sub.domain.com. checking https://sub.domain.com causes a 105 error. This is a DNS error but I am convinced the DNS does not have a problem with the CNAME records, they just point to my IP. Am I doing something that Apache can not do?

  • Mod_rewrite is ignoring the extension of a file

This is my entire mod_rewrite condition: <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> <Directory /var/www/> Options FollowSymLinks -Multiviews AllowOverride None Order allow, deny allow from all RewriteEngine On # force www. It sounded like a Multiviews problem to me so I disabled Multiviews and it is still going on. ***And then a different rule will eventually take the index.php out, I am having another problem with an extra '/' being left behind when this happens. This httpd file is setting up for my codeigniter php framework

  • .htaccess rewrite rule to ignore a directory

    - by Kirk Strobeck
I am running a Symphony installation out of the directory symphony but I want to remove that word from the URL in specific cases. When a user visits http://domain.com/demo It should go to http://domain.com/symphony/demo because I've added a specific rule for demo. If I haven't added a specific rule for demo in the .htaccess, then it should resolve to http://domain.com/demo as typed. This will route it to another part of our app. Here is my current rewrite rule ### Symphony 2.3.x ### Options +FollowSymlinks -Indexes <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / ### SECURITY - Protect crucial files RewriteRule ^manifest/(.*)$ - [F] RewriteRule ^workspace/(pages|utilities)/(.*)\.xsl$ - [F] RewriteRule ^(.*)\.sql$ - [F] RewriteRule (^|/)\. - [F] ### DO NOT APPLY RULES WHEN REQUESTING "favicon.ico" RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} favicon.ico [NC] RewriteRule .* - [S=14] ### IMAGE RULES RewriteRule ^image\/(.+\.(jpg|gif|jpeg|png|bmp))$ extensions/jit_image_manipulation/lib/image.php?param=$1 [B,L,NC] ### CHECK FOR TRAILING SLASH - Will ignore files RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !/$ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(.*)/$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1/ [L,R=301] ### URL Correction RewriteRule ^(symphony/)?index.php(/.*/?) $1$2 [NC] ### ADMIN REWRITE RewriteRule ^symphony\/?$ index.php?mode=administration&%{QUERY_STRING} [NC,L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^symphony(\/(.*\/?))?$ index.php?symphony-page=$1&mode=administration&%{QUERY_STRING} [NC,L] ### FRONTEND REWRITE - Will ignore files and folders RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*\/?)$ index.php?symphony-page=$1&%{QUERY_STRING} [L] </IfModule> ###### How would I change the rewrite rule to support those cases?

  • Apache 2: Mod_Rewrite Help - If/else for directory exists

    - by BHare
This is my current and sloppy Apache 2 mod_rewrite. Keep in mine the part with site1 site2..etc has about 50 sites. RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([^.]+)\.mainsite\.org$ RewriteCond /home/%1/ -d RewriteRule ^(.+) %{HTTP_HOST}$1 RewriteRule ^([^.]+)\.mainsite\.org/media/(.*) /home/$1/special/media/$2 RewriteRule ^([^.]+)\.mainsite\.org/(.*) /home/$1/www/$2 RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^mainsite\.org$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mainsite.org$1 [R=302] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} (site1|site2|site3|site4)\.(com|net|biz|org|us)$ [NC] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/media/ RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ /home/%1/www/$1 RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} (site1|site2|site3|site4)\.(com|biz|net|org|us)$ [NC] RewriteRule ^/media/(.*)$ /home/%1/special/media/$1 RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} favicon.ico$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /misc/favicon.ico So if someone tries to go to theirusername.mainsite.org it will check if /home/theirusername/ exists, and if it does use their www (/home/theirusername/www/) as the file location for web files. If they try they try to access theirusername.mainsite.org/media/ it will make a special file location to look for the file(s) at /home/theirusername/special/media/ I would like it if the username did NOT have /home/username that it would automatically default to www.mainsite.org. I am having a hard time understanding how to do skips and such. so: If someone went to notrealusername.mainsite.org/forum/ it would auto direct to www.mainsite.org/forum/ Extra: I am using repetitive code for other site for example lets say foobar has a website foobar.com, it goes through the same process as mainsite.org so figured maybe having something like: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([^.]+).(mainsite.org|com|net|biz|org)$ where I could have one major rule for all existing domains who have a /home/

  • PHP displays blank white page even with all error reporting enabled

    - by Andy Shinn
I am trying to debug a broken page in a Drupal application and am having a hard time getting PHP to spit anything useful out. I have the following set: error_reporting = E_ALL display_errors = On display_startup_errors = On log_errors = On error_log = /var/log/php/php_error.log I have a file showing me phpinfo() which confirms these variables are set correctly for the environment. I have increased memory_limit to 256M (which should be more than enough). Yet, the only indication I get is a status 500 code in the apache access log and a blank white page from PHP. The Apache virtual host has LogLevel set to debug and the error log only outputs: [Sat Jun 16 20:03:03 2012] [debug] mod_deflate.c(615): [client 173.8.175.217] Zlib: Compressed 0 to 2 : URL /index.php, referer: http://ec2-174-129-192-237.compute-1.amazonaws.com/admin/reports/updates [Sat Jun 16 20:03:03 2012] [error] [client 173.8.175.217] File does not exist: /var/www/favicon.ico [Sat Jun 16 20:03:03 2012] [debug] mod_deflate.c(615): [client 173.8.175.217] Zlib: Compressed 42 to 44 : URL /favicon.ico The PHP error log outputs nothing at all. kernel and syslog show nothing related to Apache or PHP. I have also tried installing suphp and checking its log just confirms the user is executing correctly: [Sat Jun 16 20:02:59 2012] [info] Executing "/var/www/index.php" as UID 1000, GID 1000 [Sat Jun 16 20:05:03 2012] [info] Executing "/var/www/index.php" as UID 1000, GID 1000 This is on Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64 with the following PHP modules: ii php5 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.1 server-side, HTML-embedded scripting language (metapackage) ii php5-cgi 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.1 server-side, HTML-embedded scripting language (CGI binary) ii php5-cli 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.1 command-line interpreter for the php5 scripting language ii php5-common 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.1 Common files for packages built from the php5 source ii php5-curl 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.1 CURL module for php5 ii php5-gd 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.1 GD module for php5 ii php5-mysql 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.1 MySQL module for php5 So, what am I missing here? Why no error reporting?

  • 404 not found error for virtual host

    - by qubit
    Hello, In my /etc/apache2/sites-enabled, i have a file site2.com.conf, which defines a virtual host as follows : <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin hostmaster@wharfage ServerName site2.com ServerAlias www.site2.com site2.com DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.php DocumentRoot /var/www LogLevel debug ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/site2_error.log CustomLog /var/log/apache2/site2_access.log combined ServerSignature Off <Location /> Options -Indexes </Location> Alias /favicon.ico /srv/site2/static/favicon.ico Alias /static /srv/site2/static # Alias /media /usr/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/django/contrib/admin/media Alias /admin/media /var/lib/python-support/python2.5/django/contrib/admin/media WSGIScriptAlias / /srv/site2/wsgi/django.wsgi WSGIDaemonProcess site2 user=samj group=samj processes=1 threads=10 WSGIProcessGroup site2 </VirtualHost> I do the following to enable the site : 1) In /etc/apache2/sites-enabled, i run the command a2ensite site2.com.conf 2) I then get a message site successfully enabled, and then i run the command /etc/init.d/apache2 reload. But, if i navigate to www.site2.com, i get 404 not found. I do have an index.html in /var/www (permissions:777 and ownership www-data:www-data), and i have also verified that a symlink was created for site2.com.conf in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled. Any way to fix this ? Thank you.

  • NGINX returning 404 error on a valid url

    - by Harrison
We have a site that runs PHP-FPM and NGINX. The application sends invitations to site members that are keyed with 40 character random strings (alphanumerics only -- example below). Today for the first time we ran into an issue with this approach. The following url: http://oursite.com/notices/response/approve/1960/OzH0pedV3rJhefFlMezDuoOQSomlUVdhJUliAhjS is returning a 404 error. This url format has been working for 6 months now without an issue, and other urls following this exact format continue to resolve properly. We have a very basic config with a simple redirect to a front controller, and everything else has been running fine for a while now. Also, if we change the last character from an "S" to anything other than a lower-case "s", no 404 error and the site handles the request properly, so I'm wondering if there's some security module that might see something wrong with this specific string... Not sure if that makes any sense. We are not sure where to look to find out what specifically is causing the issue, so any direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Update: Adding a slash to the end of the url allowed it to be handled properly... Would still like to get to the bottom of the issue though. Solved: The problem was caused by part of my configuration... Realized I should have posted, but was headed out of town and didn't have a chance. Any url that ended in say "css" or "js" and not necessarily preceded by a dot (so, for example, http://site.com/response/somerandomestringcss ) was interpreted as a request for a file and the request was not routed through the front controller. The problem was my regex for disabling logging and setting expiration headers on jpgs, gifs, icos, etc. I replaced this: location ~* ^.+(jpg|jpeg|gif|css|png|js|ico)$ { with this: location ~* \.(jpg|jpeg|gif|css|png|js|ico)$ { And now urls ending in css, js, png, etc, are properly routed through the front controller. Hopefully that helps someone else out.

Thanks. PS. I am trying to migrate existing sites from apache to nginx.

  • lighttpd domains and url matching

    - by Manuel
    I'm trying to configure lighttpd so that: www.domain1.org/admin uses config1 any other URL on www.domain1.org uses config2 any url on www.domain2.org uses config2 So basically, domain1 and domain2 should use the same configuration except for when domain1 is accessed via an URL that starts with /admin I tried so far a number of variations, including this one: $HTTP["host"] =~ "domain1.org" { $HTTP["url"] =~ "^/admin" { // config1 alias.url = ("/media/admin" => "/usr/share...", "/static" => "/var/www/...") url.rewrite-once = ( "^(/media/admin.*)$" => "$1", "^(/static.*)$" => "$1", "^/favicon\.ico$" => "/media/favicon.ico", "^(/.*)$" => "/application.fcgi$1", ) server.document-root="/var/www/application" fastcgi.debug = 1 fastcgi.server = ( "/application.fcgi" => ( "main" => ( "socket" => "/var/www/application/application.sock", "check-local" => "disable", ) ), ) } else $HTTP["url"] !~ "^/admin" { // config2 } $HTTP["host"] !~ "domain1.org" { // config2 } But no matter what, accessing domain1.org/admin yields a 404. Is there anything that I am missing?
