  • Pull Request Conversations, Inline Diff Enhancements

Pull Request Conversations Previously, the only way for project members and users who submitted pull requests to converse was via e-mail. This complicated the review process and made conversations isolated and difficult to track. For this release, we’ve added functionality that enables you to have those same conversations within the pull request page. When you view a pull request, you’ll now see “Comments” and “Changes” tabs, with current comments displayed. Inline Diff Enhancements We tweaked the inline diff experience to make it easier to traverse diff blocks. When you open up the inline diff experience, you’ll now see up and down arrows. To move between the diff blocks, you can use those arrows or utilize the available keyboard shortcuts. Lastly, we have also brought the inline diff experience to the source control changes page for project and fork changesets. You can see both enhancements live by viewing the associated pull request or changeset changes on WikiPlex. The CodePlex team values your feedback.   • Why isn't the inline element inheriting height from its children?

    I'm trying to make a rather complicated grid of images and information (almost like Pinterest). Specifically, I'm trying to inline position one set of <ul>s right after another. I have it working but one aspect is causing issues so I'm trying to ask about this small piece to avoid the complication of the whole problem. In order to horizontally align the images and their information we are using inline <li>s with other inline-block level elements inside of them. Everything works correctly for the most part except that the <li>s have almost no height. I know that changing the <li> to display:inline-block solves this problem but that isn't feasible for other reasons. So first of all, I'm just looking to see if anyone understands why the inline <li> element doesn't have any height. I can't find anything in the spec that explains this. I know I can't add height to an inline element but any explanation as to why this is happening that might enable me to fix would be great. Secondly, if you inspect the elements using IE's Developer Mode you will see that although the background color is in the correct location, the actual location of the <li>'s bounding box is at the bottom of the container according to hovering over the element. I could deal with this problem if it was at the top in every browser but it apparently varies. NOTE: I don't really care about older browsers in this case but I don't use HTML5 or JavaScript positioning. Thanks.

I'd like to retain the editing YES in the result of the search. I put breakpoint in several methods.   • Inline editing of ManyToMany relation in Django

    After working through the Django tutorial I'm now trying to build a very simple invoicing application. I want to add several Products to an Invoice, and to specify the quantity of each product in the Invoice form in the Django admin. Now I've to create a new Product object if I've got different quantites of the same Product. Right now my models look like this (Company and Customer models left out): class Product(models.Model): description = models.TextField() quantity = models.IntegerField() price = models.DecimalField(max_digits=10,decimal_places=2) tax = models.ForeignKey(Tax) class Invoice(models.Model): company = models.ForeignKey(Company) customer = models.ForeignKey(Customer) products = models.ManyToManyField(Product) invoice_no = models.IntegerField() invoice_date = models.DateField(auto_now=True) due_date = models.DateField(default=datetime.date.today() + datetime.timedelta(days=14)) I guess the quantity should be left out of the Product model, but how can I make a field for it in the Invoice model?

  • Blog/CMS software with editing style like Stack Exchange

    I have been updating a Wordpress blog lately and found the turnaround time for content creation and editing is much worse than for Stack Overflow posts. Part of this has to do with being original compositions rather than riffing off a question. But part of it is the software. I am looking for CMS/blog software that has an overall editing experience similar to Stack Overflow. The most important features I'm looking for: Inline editing (mostly) Real-time preview on the same page are all important features for speeding up data entry. Markdown support (with inline and block-level code support) Syntax hilighting The features I must maintain from my self-hosted Wordpress: Somewhat popular/supported software, with extensibility support Self hostable Will work with MySql Wordpress has plugins for all these, but they don't necessarily work together. For example I've found a few markdown-on-save plugins, but I doubt those have a chance of ever supporting inline editing or real time previews. Also the most popular syntax hilighting plugins don't support inline code blocks, and I doubt previews would work with other syntax hilighting methods. If I get a wiki/web page content creation system along with it, or somehow integrate this into GitHub (with all the features I requested) I'll accept those as side benefits :) Formed as a question: Are there any pieces of content creation software for making a blog that support an editing style like Stack Exchange and Stack Overflow? Or magic combinations of Wordpress plugins that offer the same?

  • What workflow should I use for JavaScript editing?

    Warning: I have very little JavsScript experience. In my past programming experience, I usually have a standalone interpreter/compiler, a text editor and a command line to compile/run my software or my tests (I love test driven development). I really like it this way, since I have the feeling of being in complete control over the tools. However, editing JavaScript I need to put statements in a text file , open my web browser and click on reload. I don't feel comfortable with it, as I cannot really see what is going on (besides some alert boxes). Can you suggest me (I'm on a Mac) another workflow? Perhaps with a debugger? Is there a standalone JavaScript interpreter?

    SmtpClient() allows you to add attachments to your mails, but what if you wanna make an image appear when the mail opens, instead of attaching it? As I remember, it can be done with about 4 lines of code, but I don't remember how and I can't find it on the MSDN site. EDIT: I'm not using a website or anything, not even an IP address. The image(s) are located on a harddrive. When sent, they should be part of the mail. So, I guess I might wanna use an tag... but I'm not too sure, since my computer isn't broadcasting.

    Hi, I've gotten extremely interested into coding trainers (Program that modifies value of a different process) for video games. I've done the simple 'god-mode' and 'unlimited money' things, but I want to do alot more than that. (Simple editing using WriteProcessMemory) There are memory addresses of functions on the internet of the video game I'm working on, and one of functions is like "CreateCar" and I'm wanting to call that function from an external program. My question: How can I call a function from an external process in C/C++, provided the function address, using a process handle or other method. PS: If anyone could link me to tools (I've got debuggers, no need for more..) that help with this sort of thing, that'd be nice.

  • Efficient inline templates and C++

    I've talked before about calling inline templates from C++, I've also talked about calling inline templates efficiently. This time I want to talk about efficiently calling inline templates from C++. The obvious starting point is that I need to declare the inline templates as being extern "C": extern "C" { int mytemplate(int); } This enables us to call it, but the call may not be very efficient because the compiler will treat it as a function call, and may produce suboptimal code based on that premise. So we need to add the no_side_effect pragma: extern "C" { int mytemplate(int); #pragma no_side_effect(mytemplate) } However, this may still not produce optimal code. We've discussed how the no_side_effect pragma cannot be combined with exceptions, well we know that the code cannot produce exceptions, but the compiler doesn't know that. If we tell the compiler that information it may be able to produce even better code. We can do this by adding the "throw()" keyword to the template declaration: extern "C" { int mytemplate(int) throw(); #pragma no_side_effect(mytemplate) } The following is an example of how these changes might improve performance. We can take our previous example code and migrate it to C++, adding the use of a try...catch construct: #include <iostream extern "C" { int lzd(int); #pragma no_side_effect(lzd) } int a; int c=0; class myclass { int routine(); }; int myclass::routine() { try { for(a=0; a<1000; a++) { c=lzd(c); } } catch(...) { std::cout << "Something happened" << std::endl; } return 0; } Compiling this produces a slightly suboptimal code sequence in the hot loop: $ CC -O -xtarget=T4 -S t.cpp t.il ... /* 0x0014 23 */ lzd %o0,%o0 /* 0x0018 21 */ add %l6,1,%l6 /* 0x001c */ cmp %l6,1000 /* 0x0020 */ bl,pt %icc,.L77000033 /* 0x0024 23 */ st %o0,[%l7] There's a store in the delay slot of the branch, so we're repeatedly storing data back to memory. If we change the function declaration to include "throw()", we get better code: $ CC -O -xtarget=T4 -S t.cpp t.il ... /* 0x0014 21 */ add %i1,1,%i1 /* 0x0018 23 */ lzd %o0,%o0 /* 0x001c 21 */ cmp %i1,999 /* 0x0020 */ ble,pt %icc,.L77000019 /* 0x0024 */ nop The store has gone, but the code is still suboptimal - there's a nop in the delay slot rather than useful work. However, it's good enough for this example. The point I'm making is that the compiler produces the better code with both the "throw()" and the no side effect pragma.

    Inline images is a technique that, instead of referring to an external URL, includes all of the image’s content in the HTML itself, in the form of a Base64-encoded string. It avoids a second browser request, at the cost of making the HTML page slightly heavier and not using cache. Not all browsers support it, but current versions of IE, Firefox and Chrome do.   • Inline code within HEAD section of ASP Web Form

    Today I needed to include inline code within the HEAD section of an Web Form in order to dynamically include stylesheets based on the theme set for the application.   Below is an example:      <link href="../../Resources/Themes/<% = Page.Theme %>Grid.Default.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">   Upon saving and viewing the page I noted that the code was not being interpreted and instead was being treated as a string literal.  How to get around it?  Add a panel control in the HEAD section and place the links to the stylesheets as in the example above within the panel.  For whatever reason, ASP.NET does not want to interpret inline code in the HEAD section but will allow you to add .NET controls in the HEAD section.

  • Inline template efficiency

    I like inline templates, and use them quite extensively. Whenever I write code with them I'm always careful to check the disassembly to see that the resulting output is efficient. Here's a potential cause of inefficiency. Suppose we want to use the mis-named Leading Zero Detect (LZD) instruction on T4 (this instruction does a count of the number of leading zero bits in an integer register - so it should really be called leading zero count). So we put together an inline template called lzd.il looking like: .inline lzd lzd %o0,%o0 .end And we throw together some code that uses it: int lzd(int); int a; int c=0; int main() { for(a=0; a<1000; a++) { c=lzd(c); } return 0; } We compile the code with some amount of optimisation, and look at the resulting code: $ cc -O -xtarget=T4 -S lzd.c lzd.il $ more lzd.s .L77000018: /* 0x001c 11 */ lzd %o0,%o0 /* 0x0020 9 */ ld [%i1],%i3 /* 0x0024 11 */ st %o0,[%i2] /* 0x0028 9 */ add %i3,1,%i0 /* 0x002c */ cmp %i0,999 /* 0x0030 */ ble,pt %icc,.L77000018 /* 0x0034 */ st %i0,[%i1] What is surprising is that we're seeing a number of loads and stores in the code. Everything could be held in registers, so why is this happening? The problem is that the code is only inlined at the code generation stage - when the actual instructions are generated. Earlier compiler phases see a function call. The called functions can do all kinds of nastiness to global variables (like 'a' in this code) so we need to load them from memory after the function call, and store them to memory before the function call. Fortunately we can use a #pragma directive to tell the compiler that the routine lzd() has no side effects - meaning that it does not read or write to memory. The directive to do that is #pragma no_side_effect(<routine name), and it needs to be placed after the declaration of the function.
