• Website Access...DNS, ISP, issue?

  This isn't so much a code issue as it might be an issue with my ISP. For some reason when I visit a site very often, like one I manage or write stories on, it will just stop pulling data down after a while. It's very random when it happens, but probably happens once a week. If effects everyone who is accessing the site from this connection, and I can access other sites no problem. Also, if I go outside the office back home, which is right down the street, and access the site it is fine. I'm using Comcast in both locations. It's almost as if I have a limit on requests to each site and have hit my limit so it blocks the site for a while. Anybody have any clue what this might be?

• Fix for EF4 Profiler Issue Coming in next Cumulative Update

  Hey!  What do you know?  Microsoft Connect really works! I was very happy this morning to open my email and find a notice from Umachandar on the SQL Programmability Team that they have created a fix for the Odd Profiler Results with EF4 issue that I wrote about last June.  Not only did I blog about it, but I logged an item to Connect with repro steps and sample code.  And now, they have announced that they have a fix for this problem and that it will be included in the next Cumulative Update for SQL Server 2008 R2. For those of you not running 2008 R2, or who prefer to wait for full Service Packs rather than install the latest Cumulative Updates, I also wrote about a workaround for the issue, as long as you do not require the Multiple Active Result Sets feature to be enabled. It is easy with Microsoft to get the feeling that you’re just shouting in the wind, and it is nice to get validation once in a while that they really are listening.

That’s all goodness, but it has appeared to cause an issue for PowerShell 2.0. the Get-Command PowerShell command-let returns an error (Object reference not set to an instance of an object) if you are using PowerShell 2.0 and sqlps – it’s a known bug, and I’m happy to report that it is fixed in SP2 for SQL Server 2008 – something that will released soon. • JS and CSS caching issue: possibly .htaccess related

  I've been using the HTML5 Boilerplate for some web projects for a while now and have noticed the following issue cropping up on some sites. My CSS and JS files, when loaded by the browser, are being renamed to things like: ce.52b8fd529e8142bdb6c4f9e7f55aaec0.modernizr-1,o7,omin,l.js …in the case of modernizr-1.7.min.js The pattern always seems to add ce. or cc. in front of the filename. I'm not sure what's causing this, and it's frustrating since when I make updates to those files, the same old cached file is being loaded. I have to explicitly call modernizr-1.7.min.js?v=2 or something similar to get it to re-cache. I'd like to scrap it altogether but it still happens even when .htaccess is empty. Any ideas? Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

• Volume indicator issue after xubuntu 13.10 upgrade

  Last night I decided to upgrade my system to the latest version of Xubuntu, 13.10. The process went fine, but now I'm facing this strange issue. There is no sound settings available in the settings manager window and the volume indicator looks like when the volume is muted, clicking the indicator being broken as well. The indicator looks like this: I tried to do a alsa force-reload followed by a restart of the computer, but didn't help. Any thoughts ? l.e. After some digging I found out that the volume control exists, so this must be a volume indicator issue.

• Strange GTK3 issue with Audacious and Evince (Document Viewer)

  I find that, in some GTK3 apps such as Audacious and Evince (Document Viewer), parts of the UI are pure black, which looks ugly and out-of-place. It is not intentional, as the screenshots on both websites show the app looking different. I only have this issue with the Adwaita GTK theme, but since it comes with Gnome 3 and is the main theme these apps are designed for, I'm guessing the problem is not simply the theme having some bug (though the Ubuntu package might). I have had this issue on two laptops now, running both Ubuntu 12.04 and Xubunu 12.10 with Gnome Shell and Adwaita. The screenshots below show the problem: Audcious's is visible in the search area around the text box, and behind the playlist tabs, and Evince's is visible in more or less the same position and around the document itself. • Text box select issue

  I have this issue where the entire text in text boxes is selected whilst I'm typing in it. For example, in FireFox search box I'd try to type "foo" but end up with "o" because I managed to type "fo" before everything was selected, and then typed "o" which replaced the "fo". When it happens, it is incessant - not just a one-off. But it doesn't happen all the time, and I haven't managed to figure out what causes it to start and stop. Is this a known problem with an easy solution? EDIT: this has nothing to do with touchpad. I get this occasionally even on a machine without one. I can usually rectify the issue just be alt-tabbing about a few times.

(It's the first time I use Lubuntu) I had graphical issue, apparently due to the graphic driver (ATI Radeon Xpress 1200) I followed this procedure to correct my problem : sudo add-apt-repository ppa:makson96 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install fglrx-legacy My graphical issue has been corrected but now it shows a low resolution (1024*768) and I can't change it. the xrandr result : xrandr: failed to get size of gamma output default Screen 0: minimum 1024x768, current 1027x768, maximum 1024x768 default connected 1024x768+0+0 0mmx0mm 1024x768 0.0* I've already read this topic but I don't really understand how things work there. • External hard drive issue

  I am running Ubuntu 12.04 and I have a 500GB external hard drive, formatted in ext4, which I have used for about a year to store batches of data that I am sifting through. About once a week I move a chunk of data from the external drive to my internal drive for processing. As I do that I delete the data from the external drive and empty the trash, thereby clearing up space on the external and also preventing myself from grabbing stuff that I've already sorted through. The vast majority of this is text files, but there are a few .jpegs and .mp4s thrown in, if that matters. Anyway, this has been working without a hitch for nearly a year. So today I plug in the drive and I have an odd issue. I was able to move folders from the external over to my internal drive with no problem, but when I tried to delete those files I was unable to do so. I kept getting the "unable to send file to trash, do you wish to delete permanently?" message. I clicked yes / delete all, but no files were actually deleted. It just sat there. Even worse, while the system was trying in vain to delete those files I was unable to move more files over. In short, I was stuck. I canceled the operation, unmounted and remounted the drive, and then I had an even bigger problem. I have a spreadsheet of all the different folders on there ( exactly 818 ) and yet when I opened the drive in Nautilus, it was only finding 512 folders. So I had 306 missing folders, but my free space was unchanged. Immediately I think that the drive may be corrupted. I went into Disk Utility and ran the check disk option. It said that the drive was NOT clean, but offered no remedy or option to repair. I went back into the drive in Nautilus and once again attempted to delete the files I had already moved. Same issue. I clicked on Details and it said that it was unable to create a trashing file I/O error. I've looked, and it's not a permissions issue. The drive and all folders that are in it all belong to me, and they are all read / write. I've started running badblocks on the drive, but it looks like that is going to take several hours to complete. Any ideas?

• SSL issue and redirects from https to http

  I have a site www.example.com for which i purchased SSL cert and installed. And it was working fine, I also have a subdomain with app.example.com which was not on SSL. Both www.example.com and app.example.com are on same IP address. At later we decided to put SSL only on app.frostbox.com and then i configured SSL with app.frostbox.com and it worked fine, Now the issue is that Google is indexing my site as https://www.example.com/ and when users hits the web , Invalid security warning is issued and when user allow security issue they are shown my app.example.com contents. Note: I have my SSL configuration files in /etc/httpd/conf.d/ssl.conf The contents of the ssl.conf are below. http://pastebin.com/GCWhpQJq NOTE: I tried solutions in .httaccess but none of those worked. Like redirecting 301 redirects etc

• Issue in Webscrapping in C# : Downloading and parsing zipped text files

  I am writing an webscrapper, to do the download content from a website. Traversing to the website/URL, triggers the creation of a temporary URL. This new URL has a zipped text file. This zipped file is to be downloaded and parsed. I have written a scrapper in C# using WebClient and its function - DownloadFileAsync(). The zipped file is read from the designated location on a trapped DownloadFileCompleted event. My issue : The Windows 'Open/Save dialog is triggered". This requires user input and the automation is disrupted. Can you suggest a way to bypass the issue ? I am cool with rewriting the code using any alternate libraries. :) Thanks for reading,

• Question about metacity issue from previous post

  Yesterday I had an issue with my 12.04 - 12.04 Does anyone know how to fix this? all of a sudden - my Terminal shortcut doesnt work and windows only appear in top left corner and some configuration causing an issue with metacity making it crash - I was walked through the problem, and found out that by creating another user account and logging onto it - the problem wasn't present anymore on that account but still was present on my old account. So my question is - was the problem just something in my old Home folder? - also - can most issues that occur like this be solved by making a new account and backing up the "Home" folder?

  This is a known, documented issue with SQL Server 2008 Management Studio, but certain DDL operations like ALTERing a column datatype from Management Studio fails. For example, in Object Explorer, navigate to a table column > right-click on column > Modify. Then, change column datatype or length, then save and this error message displays: To workaround this problem, go to Query Editor and issue the following DDL statement instead:  TABLE dbo.FTPFile ALTER COLUMN CmdLine VARCHAR (100) ; ALTER   GO   The column change is successfuly applied now.

  I'm using HTML 5 to play video and there are some content before the video so I'm using flexroll to scroll that whole window. I'm checking it on iPad, now problem is that in iOS 5 its working fine but when I update to iOS 6 then screen is not scrolling only video is scroll up and down, content is as it is in the position. I can't understand what is the exact problem. Is that js compatibility issue or HTML 5 video compatibility issue. Can anyone please help me to figure out, your help will really be appreciated.

• Migrating RISC to x86 - endianess 'issue'

  Endianess always comes up when migrating applications and databases from RISC to x86. The issue is often time overblown as if you are running on a relational database the database vendor will provide tools or automated methods to convert the data properly. Oracle RMAN is often the first choice. Oracle imp/exp, data pump, and GoldenGate can also be used. Migrating to Linux on Dell A bigger issue would be applications that access OS files. These OS files will need to be converted from big endian (RISC) to little endian (CISC) and then the application may be impacted because of the endianess differences.

• Ubuntu Studio Audio Issue with Alsa - No sound

  Spec: OS: Ubuntu Studio 13.10 64bit CPU: AMD FX 4100 Quad Core Memory: 6GB DDR3 Video: Radeon HD 4250 (embedded on the mobo) Sound: Delta 66 PCI Issue: I just installed Ubuntu Studio and found out that the streaming audio on a few common website such as Youtube had no sound, and also my CD/DVDs via a player. Thus, in the terminal, I entered: sudo alsa force-reload It actually worked but the sound/audio output was MONO and NOT Stereo (the sources are set to stereo stereo), and it seemed I was not able to locate any settings that can switch the output sound to stereo at all. I went through many forums and eventually "autoremove" pulseaudio since many said I would not be able to utilize both pulseaudio and alsa in this case. Now, I have no audio whatsoever. Does this version of Ubuntu only offer mono sound/audio no matter what I do? Then, I may just need to ditch the whole thing and go back to Windows, which I don't want to since Ubuntu Studio offers many great apps, soundfonts etc.. I have also installed restricted extra, but even after rebooting, it did not resolve the issue. In the terminal mode, I pulled "alsamixer" and unmuted almost everything. But still no sound after a reboot. Just an FYI, I have no saved data under this version of Ubuntu Studio yet, so please feel free to let me know whether I need to install Studio 12.10 instead or mess with some installing/uninstalling apps/plug-ins, etc... If it breaks at some point, all I need to do is to re-install it, which I do not mind at all. Or, if you can provide me a step by step instruction to get this work, I do not mind clean install the Studio 13.10 then wait for your instruction AT ALL!

• Mailbox move issue from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010

  Today while moving mailboxes between Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010, I hit an issue with a couple of mailboxes.  These mailboxes all popped access denied errors or more exactly: Insufficient Access Rights to perform the operation.   The cause was similar to the mail flow issue in that inheritable permissions were not turned on for the user object in Active Directory.  This also presented it’s own unique problem in that since the initial move request failed because of permissions, it had to be cleared before a new move request could be created. On top of that, the request did not show up in the EMC.  I used the following process to clear the request, assign permission, then create a new request:   1. First you need to know the ExchangeGUID of the mailbox for the remove-moverequest command.  To quickly get the GUID for a mailbox simply run:         2. Next we need to clear out the move request using PowerShell by running: [PS] c:\>Remove-moverequest -moverequestqueue "mailbox database 1030639620" -mailboxguid 8525686f-d4d3-42b7-92f1-46d77ea841a3   3. Then to re-establish inheritable permissions. This can be done by using AD Users and Computers, switching to View Advanced Features, then under the Security tab of the object.  Click Advanced, then check “allow inheritable permissions of parent to propagate to this object”   4. Once the Inheritable permissions are restored, we need to create a new move request: NOTE:  The EMC can also be used to initiate the Move Request once the permissions are corrected. [PS] c:\>New-moverequest –identity jyoung  -baditemlimit 100 -targetdatabase "mailbox database 1030639620"   And that’s it.  The mailbox should move over smoothly with no access denied error.

• Workaround for an Xcode/iOS SDK Issue...

  Hi, everyone: When you are doing ADF Mobile development, and you need to deploy the application to an iOS device, you would need to compile/deploy the app with iOS App Certificates and Provisioning Profile. This means you would need to "Deploy to Package" or "Deploy to iTunes" during deployment, and configure JDeveloper with the proper certificates/profiles. In some instances (exact combination is still not clear), deploy and signing the application to generate the ipa file may fail with similar error message at the end of the deployment log: [01:04:45 PM] Deployment failed due to one or more errors returned by '/usr/bin/xcrun'. The following is a summary of the returned error(s): Command-line execution failed (Return code: 1) error: /usr/bin/codesign --force --preserve-metadata=identifier,entitlements,resource-rules --sign iPhone Distribution: Oracle Corporation --resource-rules=/var/folders/x7/21sjrpx13qj9tq20z14s3j_w0000gn/T/tkROhP11qU/Payload/HelloWorld.app/ResourceRules.plist --entitlements /var/folders/x7/21sjrpx13qj9tq20z14s3j_w0000gn/T/tkROhP11qU/entitlements_plistEINPBkIG /var/folders/x7/21sjrpx13qj9tq20z14s3j_w0000gn/T/tkROhP11qU/Payload/HelloWorld.app failed with error 1. The workaround is discussed in this article from StackOverflow. This article refers to the old location of Xcode, so you would need to adjust the paths accordingly. The path for Xcode 4.3 and above would be like: /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents//Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/usr/bin/PackageApplication to this script file. • Fix a jQuery/HTML5 dynamic content issue by upgrading jQuery

  The default NuGet template for MVC3 pushes down jQuery 1.5.1.  You can upgrade to a new version (1.7.1 is current when this is written) to avoid a problem with the creation of “unknown” HTML5 tags in IE6-8: Take this sample HTML page using HTML5Shiv to provide support for new HTML5 tags in IE6 – IE8.  The page has a number of <article> tags that are backwards compatible in Internet Explorer 6-8 thanks to the HTML5Shiv. After the article elements there is a jQuery 1.5.1 script tag, and a ready() event handler that appends a footer element with a copyright to each of the article tags.  This appears correctly in IE9, but in older IE browsers the unknown tag problem reappears for the dynamic <footer> elements, even though we have the HTML5Shiv at the top of the page.  The copyright text sits outside of the two separate footer tags. To solve the issue upgrade your jQuery files to an up-to-date version.  For instance in Visual Studio 2010: In the Solution Explorer right click on References and choose Manage NuGet Packages. In the Manage NuGet Packages window select the jQuery item on the middle of the page and click the “Upgrade” button. You may need to upgrade your script src references to point at the new version.   I'm having issue with latest Ubuntu 12.10. Let me make it more clear. I'm having the following partitions in my Laptop. Here ms is for administrative tasks and abc for my friends. When I mount any drive under "abc" user, I cannot access it under my other user "ms". Same as in the case with "ms" user. I found possible reason behind the issue. When I mount any drive under "abc" user, Ubuntu will try to mount it under "/media/abc/volume_name" instead of "/media/volume_name" . • Issue with increasing the root partition from the swap

  I have an issue with increase the size of my root partition. I have ElementaryOS Luna, and while installing it asked me how much space I want to use. I choosed 15 GB for it, because I want to use this as an alternative system. The issue is that after the installation was complete, I found out that my root partition is only 7 GB big, and SWAP is 8 GB which is useless cuz I have 8 GB of RAM. Now I want to shrink the swap and increase the size of my root partition, so I booted the LiveCD and used GParted. I shrinked the swap without any problems, but now I cant add that free space to any partition. I also turned Swap off. I would add a picture, but I need at least 10 reputation to post images ( Stupid ) Its also worth mentioning that in Gparted its showing my partition in a different way. I would post an image BUT I CANT, so I need to write it down. • Issue with Banshee

  I went to install Banshee using Ubuntu tweak's App button. I clicked the stable ppa, and installed. When it was done, i tried to launch it, it shows up for a split second then closes. So I though it might be having issues with Rhythmbox's associations or something. So I uninstalled Rhythmbox. But same issue. So I try to uninstall Banshee, and it won't, it fails. I thought, well maybe if I tried installing it from the terminal, adding the ppa first (sudo add-apt-repository ppa:banshee-team/ppa) updating apt-get, then sudo apt-get install banshee. But it fails. So now I can't run it, uninstall it, re install it.. or anything. I'm new to linux so I don't know how to go about rebuilding the files. But if anyone has seen this issue before, or has any idea on how to fix this, I would really appreciate the help. Thanks guys
