  • Javascript timer that restarts on key up?

    O, so i have a 'live search' ajax search, which currently runs an sql search (via ajax) on each key up. What i would prefer is to: run an sql search after a key has not been pressed for say 800 milliseconds . So i want to have a timer that is started on key up, if the timer reaches 800ms then the ajax is called, if a new keyup event occurs the timer is restarted how would i do this?

  • clearTimeout not working in javascript autocomplete script

    I am using the following code as part of an autocomplete script to avoid hammering the server with every keystroke: var that = this; textInput.bind("keyup", function() { clearTimeout(that.timer); that.timer = setTimeout (that.doStuff(), 2000); }); Unfortunately, this does not clear the old timers. They still all execute. Does anyone know what I'm missing? Thanks!

I have registered keyup event but I have to release the arrow up key in order to change the value, What I want is if User pressed up arrow key then it will increment the value until user release up arrow key and same for the down arrow key.     Hi, I am currently using JQuery's validation plugin for basic form validation such as required fields. I want to add functionality so that when the user types in the username field, an ajax call is triggered to check whether the username is already taken. My requirements are: Preferably integrate with JQuery Validation plugin, rather than writing a custom function I want the lookup to occur on the nkeyup event I want the lookup to be triggered approx 0.5 seconds after the keyup event has occurred.   • contenteditable realtime replace youtube url

    so the problem is, i have a contenteditable div, with a keyup function binded. everytime somebody puts a youtube url in it, it has to be replaced by an embedded movie. i came up with a regex like this : content.match(/http:\/\/\w{0,3}.?youtube+\.\w{2,3}\/watch\?v=.*?(?=\s)/g); firefox wil do the replace after a whitespace, but in ie it won't work. any suggestions? thnx in advance!

  • Live search results as you type... am I going about this the right way? jQuery + PHP

    This is my first time building a tool like this, so please bare with me. I'm doing this to learn more about jQuery and AJAX. Basically, I have a search input and a hidden div. When you start typing in the search input, the hidden div becomes visible and results are brought in. In this case, I'm searching for client names. It all works fine, however I think my code could be better but I'm not sure exactly where to begin. Each keyup requests a PHP script which accesses a table in a database to find a like string. But in my PHP script, I'm echo'ing some JS/jQuery which I'm not sure is good practice. Below is my code. Am I going about this the right way or am I totally off base? Any suggestions for improvement?     I'm trying to move the caret in a Flex TextArea to the end after appending some text from my code. I've looked through the reference documentation for TextArea and its underlying TextField but it appears there is no method provided to handle this. One approach I've tried is to set focus to the text area and dispatch a KeyUp KeyboardEvent with the event's key code set to the "End" key, but this doesn't work. Any ideas on how to do this?   • Inheriting a Base Form but Paste/Cut Commands Not Captured

    I created a base form that has a specific size and an icon as a base for all forms created in my project (to be consistent in looks). The problem is, for some reason if I add a Text box to the Child form, I can no longer execute shortcuts like Copy (CTRL+C) etc into the Textbox. What should I do to handle this OTHER THAN writing code to capture those on the KeyUp control? This is also the case for RichTextBox control as well. Thanks

  • Google reader Keyboard shortcuts not working in Firefox 3.6

    I just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 which comes with Firefox 3.6.3. Now Google reader some keyboard shortcuts stopped working, The j/k keys are ok, but 'v', 'Shift+x' and others don't work and start the Search As You type functionality I've always used. The Javascript console only shows this warning: Warning: The 'charCode' property of a keyup event should not be used. The value is meaningless.   • Silverlight 3 Dynamic DataGrid RowStyle Ignored

    I subclassed the standard DataGrid into SpecialDataGrid so I could override the KeyDown/KeyUp events. Other than that SpecialDataGrid is exactly the same as DataGrid. At run-time I dynamically create a bunch of these SpecialDataGrids. When a user clicks a row in the grid it hightlights, which is fine, but when that grid loses focus, it leaves a residual gray highlight on the last-selected row, which is not fine. I've heavily edited the RowStyle and CellStyle I'm applying to these Grids to more-or-less remove all formatting. I even added a static SpecialDataGrid to the app with test data so I could see if the RowStyle was somehow incorrect, applying the same RowStyle and CellStyle that I'm applying to the dynamically generated one (you'll see it in the code below). What I saw was that the "test grid" showed up exactly as I wanted, and the real grid is ignoring part of the RowStyle! Has anyone run into this issue or have any ideas of how to correct it?
