  • mysql single database relocation

    - by asdmin
I would like to know if it's possible to operate different databases on different filesystem locations. Background: we are a hosting service, which hosts mysql, web, and smtp to it's customer, but all our services (sql, smtp, http) are located in a different place. We are going to assign a single logical volume to a customer, which will accommodate the customer's mailing, weppages and (hopefully) sql database. Web pages and mailing are already covered, but I am not able to find a configuration setting which would enable me to specify the location of a database (the directory where mysql stores the DB). Let me please highlight, the target here is to relocate different databases to different locations in the filesystem, not moving them from a single place to an another (single) place. Also please do not bother answering with soft and hard symbolic links. ;) Thanks

  • Avoiding spam filters on my CentOS 5.5 64bit server?

    - by Andrew Fashion
I run a social network on my web server, with about 15,000 members right now. My administration section let's me Mass Email all my users. Currently it uses the built in PHP mail function. What is the best way to congfigure my server to bypass spam? Can I install anything on the server? Or should I just make the social network use SMTP? The admin panel lets me choose SMTP or built-in mail function. I'm not to familiar with mailing from servers, as I usually use Aweber for my mailing, but I cannot use Aweber for this as they will not let me just import 15,000 emails. Let me know, thanks.

  • mailman not relaying email to external address

    - by gozzilli
I have a setup of mailman with postfix on an ubuntu server 12.04. My problem is that mailing list emails are not forwarded to email addresses external to my institution. However the initial welcome email is received by everyone, internally and externally. in fact, a simple email from command line with mail is successfully sent to anyone after that, mailing list emails are only forwarded to internal addresses. the domain name I'm using for the server is not that of my institution who is hosting the server. Here is my main.cf: myorigin = sub.myinstitution.tld mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/16 # this is my institution ip range relayhost = smtp.myinstitution.tld inet_interfaces = loopback-only local_transport = error:local delivery is disabled virtual_alias_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/virtual smtpd_recipient_restrictions = permit_mynetworks myhostname = mywebsite.tld mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost I also found these two links on serverfault and ubuntu forums, but neither of these solutions seem to do the trick for me. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • A Fresh Start

    - by Laila
As you may already be aware, I'm no longer responsible for the .NET Reflector newsletter. That publication is now in the very capable hands of the Reflector team. But fear not; starting in early April, I'll be launching a brand new .NET Newsletter, and I invite you to enjoy the very first edition by subscribing to our new mailing list, or by updating your Simple-Talk subscriptions, and joining the .NET Newsletter mailing list. With a fresh and snappy design (it might even be described as idiosyncratic. but I can say no more at this stage), we'll be making a brand new start. Each month, a member of my team (that's the Red Gate .NET team) will host the .NET Newsletter, bringing you the choicest cuts of breaking news, the very best .NET content from Simple-Talk, alongside details of hot upcoming events. To top it off, not only will you be among the first to get access to free resources (including free wall-charts, training videos and eBooks), but you'll also get exclusive access to betas, early access programs, and special offers. We can't wait to share the new design and exciting new content with you! If you have any questions about the changes to the newsletter, please feel free to send an email to [email protected] or post a comment on my blog. If I don't hear from you before next month, then I'll simply say that I hope you enjoy the new look. Cheers, Laila

  • Reply to mailman archived message

    - by Jasper
(not exactly sure if this is the right place for this question, but I trust you will migrate it if it isn't) I was having a problem with gdb, and while there issue appears to be recurring, I found only one instance of someone recently experiencing the same problem. I found this other instance on a mailman archived mailing list. Then I tried some more things and finally solved the issue with gdb. So, now I want to report back the solution I found to the mailing list. However, this is really only of use if mailman recognizes my mail as being the same thread as the original problem, but I do not have that mail (just the online archived version of it) so I cannot reply to it. My question: How can I make sure mailman considers my mail as a reply to that thread? Is simply copying the topic enough?

  • Mailman bounces go to me, do not unsubscribe user! (MacOS Server)

    - by vy32
I run a large mailing list (30,000 users). Every month I get a whole slew of bounces in my mailbox from the "mailing list memberships reminder" that get sent out. I thought that these were supposed to go to the program and automatically unsubscribe people, not go to me. We are running a standard unmodified MacOS Server installation. Here is a typical bounce: From: Mail Delivery System Subject: Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender To: [email protected] This is the mail system at host mail.COMPANY.COM. I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not be delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below. For further assistance, please send mail to postmaster. If you do so, please include this problem report. You can delete your own text from the attached returned message. The mail system ... Any idea what to do?

  • Is there a Linux mail server with an outgoing pickup directory?

    - by Paul D'Ambra
On my Exchange server I can drop appropriately formatted text files in the "pickup" directory and Exchange will process them. I'd like to split this bulk mailing functionality onto another box to protect our business mail IP from the bumpy ride that our monthly newsletter gives us. I should note at this point that the mailing is opt-in with an opt out link included and only goes to people who pay to be a member of our organisation The ideal solution for me would be to add a linux box to use just for this purpose so we're not paying for Exchange licenses. So is there a linux equivalent of the Exchange pickup directory?

  • Subversion roadmap

    - by gbjbaanb
Recently there was a post to the subversion dev mailing list suggesting a vision and roadmap for the future of Subversion. As a result, I'm posting this to elicit some suggestions and contributions from the users of Subversion. Any comments are welcome, and I shall feedback a synopsis with a link to this question to the dev mailing list. On the post, several ideas were suggested as being "very nice to have" and are offered as the starting point of a future roadmap. These are: Obliterate Shelve/Checkpoint Repository-dictated Configuration Rename Tracking Improved Merging Improved Tree Conflict Handling Enterprise Authentication Mechanisms Forward History Searching Log Message Templates So given all the above, what features in subversion, or missing from subversion, do you think could be improved or added?

  • How can I play compressed sound files in C# in a portable way?

    - by skolima
Is there a portable, not patent-restricted way to play compressed sound files in C# / .Net? I want to play short "jingle" sounds on various events occuring in the program. System.Media.SoundPlayer can handle only WAV, but those are typically to big to embed in a downloadable apllication. MP3 is protected with patents, so even if there was a fully managed decoder/player it wouldn't be free to redistribute. The best format available would seem to be OGG Vorbis, but I had no luck getting any C# Vorbis libraries to work (I managed to extract a raw PCM with csvorbis but I don't know how to play it afterwards). I neither want to distribute any binaries with my application nor depend on P/Invoke, as the project should run at least on Windows and Linux. I'm fine with bundling .Net assemblies as long as they are license-compatible with GPL. [this question is a follow up to a mailing list discussion on mono-dev mailing list a year ago]

  • Is there anJoomla extensions that works like Yahoo! Groups??

    - by Dion
Hello all, Can anybody suggests me any extensions for Joomla that works like Yahoo!Groups?? I needed an extensions that : 1. If i post a new subject, everybody on the subscription list get that new subject/article/post on their e-mail. 2. The subscriber/receiver of that mail, can reply it directly from their e-mail (yahoo, gmail, outlook, etc)...and, their reply shows on the website front end. Basically, like Yahoo! Groups did... I've tried "Acajoom", and "Ultimate Mailing List"....both worked great for creating a newsletter, subscription, and sending mail to all the subscriber. But i cannot reply the e-mail and showed the reply on the website, and the other receiver didn;t receive it too...so there is absolutely no interaction within the mailing list. If anyone can suggest me something, i will be very grateful Thanx!!

  • How can I extract System.Net.Mail from Mono and rename the namespaces?

    - by JL
Microsoft's implementation of System.Net.Mail does not provide a robust mailing solution. I would like to use Mono's implementation of System.Net.Mail instead, however that namespace is embedded in the System.dll shipped with Mono, and has exact same namespaces as the original .net framework. What I would like to do is instead extract System.Net.Mail from the mono solution and rename namespaces to Mono.System.Net.Mail. Then I can compile this in its own DLL and finally have a mailing solution that works! Can anyone tell me how this can be done?

  • Where is a good Address Parser

    - by Brig Lamoreaux
I'm looking for a good tool that can take a full mailing address, formatted for display or use with a mailing label, and convert it into a structured object. So for instance: // Start with a formatted address in a single string string f = "18698 E. Main Street\r\nBig Town, AZ, 86011"; // Parse into address Address addr = new Address(f); addr.Street; // 18698 E. Main Street addr.Locality; // Big Town addr.Region; // AZ addr.PostalCode; // 86011 Now I could do this using RegEx. But the tricky part is keeping it general enough to handle any address in the world! I'm sure there has to be something out there that can do it. If anyone noticed, this is actually the format of the opensocial.address object.

  • SQL Server v.Next (Denali) : OS compatibility & upgrade support

    - by AaronBertrand
Microsoft's Manageability PPM Dan Jones has asked for our feedback on their proposed list of supported operating systems and upgrade paths for the next version of SQL Server. (See the original post ). This has generated all kinds of spirited debates on twitter, in protected mailing lists, and in private e-mail. If you're going to be involved in moving to Denali, you should be aware of these proposals and stay on top of the discussion until the results are in. (The media are starting to pick up on...(read more)

  • If unexpected database changes cause you problems – we can help!

    - by Chris Smith
Have you ever been surprised by an unexpected difference between you database environments? Have you ever found that your Staging database is not the same as your Production database, even though it was the week before? Has an emergency hotfix suddenly appeared in Production over the weekend without your knowledge? Has your client secretly added a couple of indices to their local version of the database to aid performance? Worse still, has a developer ever accidently run a SQL script against the wrong database without noticing their mistake? If you’ve answered “Yes” to any of the above questions then you’ve suffered from ‘drift’. Database drift is where the state of a database (schema, particularly) has moved away from its expected or official state over time. The upshot is that the database is in an unknown or poorly-understood state. Even if these unexpected changes are not destructive, drift can be a big problem when it’s time to release a new version of the database. A deployment to a target database in an unexpected state can error and fail, potentially delaying a vital, time-sensitive update. A big issue with drift is that it can be hard to spot and it can be even harder to determine its provenance. So, before you can deal with an issue caused by drift, you’ll need to know exactly what change has been made, who made it, when they made it and why they made it. Those questions can take a lot of effort to answer. Then you actually need to decide what to do. Do you rollback the change because it was bad? Retrospectively apply it to the Staging environment because it is a required change? Or script the change into version control to get it back in line with your process? Red Gate’s Database Delivery Team have been talking to DBAs, database consultants and database developers to explore the problem of drift. We’ve started to get a really good idea of how big a problem it can be and what database professionals need to know and do, in order to deal with it.  It’s fair to say, we’re pretty excited at the prospect of creating a tool that will really help and we’ve got some great feedback on our initial ideas (see image below).   We’re now well underway with the development of our new drift-spotting product – SQL Lighthouse – and we hope to have a beta release out towards the end of July. What we really need is your help to shape the product into a great tool. So, if database drift is a problem that you’d like help solving and are interested in finding out more about our product, join our mailing list to register your interest in trying out the beta release. • Sending HTML Newsletters in a Batch Using SQL Server

Sending a large volume of emails can put a strain on a mail relay server. However many people using SQL Server will need to do just that for things like newsletters, mailing lists, etc. Satnam Singh brings us a way to spread out the load by sending newsletters in multiple batches instead of one large process.

    - by $utils.escapeXML($entry.author)
I'm glad to announce that the first binary snapshots of the lambda repository are available at the following URL:http://jdk8.java.net/lambda/As you can imagine, as the implementation of the compiler/libraries is still under heavy development, there are still many rough corners that need to be polished. • Should SQL Server tools target wide screen formats instead of portrait formats?

    - by Greg Low
There was a short discussion on the SQL Down Under mailing list this morning about screen resolutions for working with the SQL Server tools. In particular, the issue was about how unusable the tools are on the 1366x768 resolution notebooks that now seem to be the most common. While finding a notebook with an appropriate resolution is obviously the answer at this time, I started thinking that the product itself needs to address this. SQL Server tools currently target a portrait 4:3 shape for minimum...(read more)
