  • Using subdomains or directories for main categories?

    I have a website which references places to travel to in the world. Those places are (of course) grouped by countries. Here is an example of an actual URL of my website: http://awespot.org/country/105/iceland I am wondering if it would be better, in terms of SEO, to have the countries separated in subdomains: http://iceland.awespot.org/ I know subdomains are considered by Google as different websites, so I am considering the 2 options: separating would mean also separating the pagerank and benefits of links to the website but separating would enable me to create a "web" or related websites (all related to travel and all) that link and benefit to each other I am only asking about SEO here, I know there are other questions raised by this possibility (user experience, administration... even password completion by web browsers)

  • Ubuntu 13.04 on UEFI system with Windows Boot Manager as the main loader

    On my old laptop (legacy BIOS, MBR disk), this was perfectly possible to get working: I turn on the computer and see the Windows Boot Manager I use EasyBCD (or BootPart, or something else) to add an option to the BCD menu which allows me to boot into GRUB, and then into Ubuntu I can't figure how to do this on my new laptop (UEFI, GPT disk), whether in UEFI or legacy mode. Currently I've installed (and even booted!) Ubuntu on my laptop, but only with the help of an external GRUB (on a USB flash drive). How can I add GRUB as an option in the Windows Boot Manager on a UEFI laptop? (No, I don't want to change my primary boot loader. So no, I don't want to overwrite the Windows boot loader with GRUB.)

    I've decided to start developing multilingual web site. Now I'm thinking about the structure. The idea is to use a simple algorithm to find out what language is most interesting to the visitor when he makes his first visit to the root page, and then forward him to the corresponding address, for example, http://example.com/en/ for English-speaking audience and http://example.com/ru/ for Russians. The question is, how search engines react on such redirect? If this approach does not take away site's reputation, which redirects should I choose: 301 or 302? I would be very grateful for the reasoned response.

  • Partitoning to install Ubuntu but already have 4 main partitions

    I want to install Ubuntu alongside of Windows, but there's a 4 primary partitions limit. So there's: BIOS_RVY (10GB) System (100MB) (Windows) (C:) Windows (D:) Data I'm not sure what to do in this situation. This is my girlfriend's laptop and she doesn't want to remove MSI's pre-installed recovery partition, even though I'm pretty sure she's never used it. What is it exactly? Also, does Grub render Windows's "System" partition redundant?

  • Unity no longer loads in 13.04 for main user

    When Ubuntu starts up, Unity fails to load (I can only see my desktop with no unity sidebar and no system bar in the top right). I tried the advice of Unity does not start in Ubuntu 13.04 which recommended the following commands: dconf reset -f /org/compiz/ unity --reset-icons &disown I ran the commands without errors an restarted the computer, but the problem persists. I am currently running Gnome. I have looked at other pages from the Google search "ubuntu unity failed to load 13.04", but the advice was similar to above and seems to be concerned with a system upgrade in April 18, 2013. I suspect my issue is something far more recent. Please give me advice on how to restore Unity on my account or at least figure out what the problem is. Thank you. Some information that might be relevant: -Unity has worked fine on 13.04 for the 6 months that I've had it until today. (November 10, 2013) -I have set up the update tool to automatically update when available. It is very possible that the system applied some updates without my knowledge. -Interestingly, Unity works fine on the Guest account. -I have made it so the system automatically logs me in at start-up. -This is a personal laptop. No one else has access to it. -I was not doing anything with the system settings or the terminal and have not installed any new software for the past 3 days. -I am running the System76 native Linux laptop Ultra Lemur. I did not contact their support yet because it seemed unlikely that this is a System76-specific error.

    Ok, so I upgraded to 12.10 and have been trying out Unity, my screen has become a complete mess of folders and files. "Back in the day" the folders that were on my screen were the ones shown in the .Desktop directory now it seems like all the files in my login directory are there (that is a lot of files) Is there some way to set the files being diplayed to come from a specific directory? if so how? I think I've gone through every panel of the system settings application.

    I have a programming project due today and I am having a simple error. The project is to create a skeleton of a basic menu. The new command just counts from 1 to an integer entered by the user. Before I continue, I have posted a link to the pastebin that holds my .cpp file: http://pastebin.com/pAi9EiEi The rest of the program runs and works. However, the error is simple. It is crashing as soon as I type in any of the commands. After running error checks, I have found the error is not the while but the if statements. The error is on the lines similar to this: if (stricmp(strstr(newCommand, cmd2), newCommand) == 0) What this line is supposed to do, is copy what is in cmd2 and put it in newCommand then comparing it without caps sensitivity to: char newCommand[] = "new"; Thank you, Rux

  • Widget starting a service also starts main activity

    Hi, I have a widget that is supposed to start and stop a service (start it when it's not running, stop it when it is). This is working fine, however, each time the service is started, my app's main activity is also launched, which I don't want. If I remove the MAIN-intent-filter ( <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />) from the app's manifest, it works as I want it to (without launching the main-activity, just the service), but then I obviously don't have a main activity anymore... This is how I start the service (I would assume this is the normal way, and I can't see any reference to what might cause the MAIN intent to fire): Intent svc = new Intent(this, OnOffService.class); startService(svc); Thanks, Nick

    I am upgrading a SAP Java instance and am getting the error shown in the log below. There are not backup profile files in the profiles directory. The string _u does not exist in the default, start or instance profile for instance SCS01. Please can you suggest what the issue might be?   • sharepoint crawl not indexing main site

    Guys I'm having some strange search issues' going on with my main portal application. First off let me give you a little back ground on the problem web app. Our Sharepoint environment was originally set up by a consultant that did not follow best practices. She used one web app to house our companies' intranet site, ssp, and mysites. Since than I have provisioned a new ssp that I have segmented correctly I moved all of our other sites over to the new ssp with out any problems . However, I could not assign the main portal app to the new ssp since the portal app housed the ssp site collection. So I deleted the ssp site collection after that I deleted the ssp and assigned the portal app to my new ssp. Now this is where the problem starts when I attempt to crawl this application the crawl starts than stops 5 seconds later with a status of success also it reports that 1 item was successfully crawled. The funny thing is the main portal app has nearly 30000 items. I have tracked the problem down to the web app if I create a test web app than restore the content I have no problem crawling all 30000 items. Also all of my other web apps that use the same ssp have no problem completing crawls. I don't see anything in the ULS logs or server 2003's event viewer. Also I'm using a separate dedicated index server that's configured to crawl itself via host file configuration. I would like to fix this problem with out having to recreate our main portal site due to the fact that we have several custom code modifications where DLL's were registered to the IIS bin folder also I don't even want to get into the Silverlight mods that were done.     my /etc/network/interfaces: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.3.75 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.3.0 Situation 1: After linux booted I set an IP alias: ifconfig eth0:0 192.168.3.111 Now ifconfig reports two IP addresses 192.168.3.75 at eth0 and 192.168.3.111 at eth0:0 When I change main IP to another network: ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.111 the alias eth0:0 is lost! Situation 2: After linux booted I set an IP alias: ifconfig eth0:0 192.168.4.111 Now ifconfig reports two IP addresses 192.168.3.75 at eth0 and 192.168.4.111 at eth0:0 When I change main IP to another network: ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.111 the alias eth0:0 stays! How do I properly change main IP, so all my aliases are not lost?

  • iTunes command+tab does not bring main window the foreground after command+h

    Related to : Cmd-Tab does not bring iTunes to foreground There people claim that command+h will continue to work, but the behavior I'm seeing is: Launch a full screen Terminal instance (or anything else really) Launch a fresh iTunes command+h to hide it command+tab back to iTunes, this works and the main app window is given focus command+tab to Terminal command+tab to iTunes What I expect to happen: the main iTunes window is brought to the foreground and given focus. What does happen: The application menu bar shows iTunes, but an additional command+` is needed to bring the main app to foreground. I thought it might have been related to a Chrome interaction, since I'm usually commmand+tabbing between my browser and everything else, but that does not seem to be the case. I do have two "plugins" running: last.fm scrobbler Alfred app mini itunes player interface Not sure if either of those create some phantom window or something that is mixing something up. Versions of stuff: OS X: 10.6.5 iTunes: 10.1.1 (4) last.fm: can't find it, but it's recent Alfred: 0.8 (89) So after that big long rant, anyone else seeing this behavior?

  • Copy a single file from main directory recursively across all directories within

    I'm on a dedicated server using CentOS, and on this server I have 5000+ directories in one main directory. In the main directory I have an index.php. I would like to copy this index.php into all 5000+ directories, but the only way I know how is doing it manually. Is there a way through the command line that I can enter something like cp and make it work from the directory? I'd copy it all the way down through all the directories and there sub directories within this main directory I am starting out in.
