  • m2eclipse: How to set Eclipse project settings when importing a maven project?

    Using m2eclipse Eclipse plugin, everybody on the dev team should be able to checkout source code, import Maven project in Eclipse and be good to go. I saw m2eclipse is being merged into Eclipse 3.7, and maven-eclipse-plugin won't be maintained any longer, so I'm looking for a m2eclipse-based solution (without running "mvn eclipse:clean eclipse:eclipse" before project import, which is what maven-eclipse-plugin does). maven-eclipse-plugin allows this in pom.xml <additionalConfig> <file> <name>.settings/com.google.gdt.eclipse.core.prefs</name> <content><![CDATA[ eclipse.preferences.version=2 jarsExcludedFromWebInfLib= warSrcDir=${project.build.directory}/${project.build.finalName} warSrcDirIsOutput=true ]]> </content> </file> The more general question is How would m2eclipse do something similar? For some cases, just saving the eclipse .settings/prefs file works (e.g. org.eclipse.jdt.ui.prefs), but in this case, com.google.gdt.eclipse.core.prefs is always overwritten on m2eclipse project import.   • Using ASP.NET session state with Silverlight (PRISM)

    Hi, The scenario: I have a PRISM application developed in Silverlight (4), and I'm using a ASP.NET server side application to host several web-services (which, in turn, accesses WCF-services, but that's not really important here). The Silverlight application must be able to call the web services cross-domain (meaning that the web services isn't necessarily on the same server hosting the silverlight application). The Silverlight application consists of several modules, each accessing the ASP.NET web-services. I do not have much experience with Silverlight and PRISM, but as far as I can see, this is not a very unusual scenario... The problem: My challange is, that when 2 different modules access the web-services, I get 2 new sessions on the web-server. I would have thought that since both modules live on the same HTML-page (and then also in the same browser session), they would get the same session on the web-server...? I have tried to make the web-service Proxy-client globally available in the container (using Unity), by registering an instance (using Container.RegisterInstance), and then getting this instance whenever a module needs to make a web-service call (using Container.Resolve), but this doesn't seem to help. However, any calls made within the same module always gets the same session on the server. Can anyone see what I'm missing here...? Thanks! Jon

  • Best XML format for log events in terms of tool support for data mining and visualization?

    We want to be able to create log files from our Java application which is suited for later processing by tools to help investigate bugs and gather performance statistics. Currently we use the traditional "log stuff which may or may not be flattened into text form and appended to a log file", but this works the best for small amounts of information read by a human. After careful consideration the best bet has been to store the log events as XML snippets in text files (which is then treated like any other log file), and then download them to the machine with the appropriate tool for post processing. I'd like to use as widely supported an XML format as possible, and right now I am in the "research-then-make-decision" phase. I'd appreciate any help both in terms of XML format and tools and I'd be happy to write glue code to get what I need. What I've found so far: log4j XML format: Supported by chainsaw and Vigilog. Lilith XML format: Supported by Lilith Uninvestigated tools: Microsoft Log Parser: Apparently supports XML. OS X log viewer: plus there is a lot of tools on http://www.loganalysis.org/sections/parsing/generic-log-parsers/ Any suggestions?

    Obviously it will vary depending on the compiler you use, but I'm curious as to the performance issues when doing vector<vector<largeObject>> vs. vector<vector<largeObject>*>, especially in c++. In specific: let's say that you have the outer vector full, and you want to start inserting elements into first inner vector. How will that be stored in memory if the outer vector is just storing pointers, as apposed to storing the whole inner vector. Will the whole outer vector have to be moved to gain more space, or will the inner vector be moved (assuming that space wasn't pre-allocated), causing problems with the outer vector? Thank you

  • Java: IDE working well with Maven War overlays

    We have a Java EE 6 web application which is fully mavenized, and we use the Maven "war overlay" facility to add customer specific files, and which currently runs in Glassfish 3.1. We have traditionally used Eclipse for development, but I have found that the combination of Maven processing and War deployments may not be optimal in terms of deployment times, and that the mavenization allows us to use any IDE with good Maven support. Therefore is Eclipse the best bet for our particular scenario (maven war overlays - glassfish, and debugging it) or is e.g. Netbeans or IntelliJ better? Please, back opinions with actual experiences, thanks.

  • Pros and cons of each JEE server for developing within Eclipse

    Eclipse JEE has a lot of server adapters allowing development against many different application servers like JBoss, Glassfish and WebSphere. Frequently you can benefit from using another server for developing new features than for production, simply because it may be able to deploy changes much faster and when the functionality is in place, you can iron out bugs for the production platform. Unfortunately finding that server is a time consuming process, where others experience is invaluable. If you have experience with any server with an Eclipse Server Adapter, please add your findings and your recommendation. I believe that the following is of interest: Does saving a file trigger an update in the server, giving save edit+reload browser functionality? How fast is a deployment? (Saved a JSP? Java class? Static file?) Can the actual server be downloaded by the Server Adapter Wizard allowing for easy installation? Are there known bugs and issues with suitable work-arounds? Is debugging fully supported? Is profiling? Would you recommend this server? Note: Eclipse can also work with Tomcat but that is a web container, which cannot deploy EAR files.

    If you look at the following line of python code: bpy.ops.object.particle_system_add({"object":bpy.data.objects[2]}) you see that in the parameters there is something enclosed in braces. Can anyone tell me what the braces are for (generically anyway)? I haven't really seen this type of syntax in python and I can't find any documentation on it. Any help is greatly appreciated.   • Cocoa window position anomaly

    Hello everyone, I have a weird problem with positioning a window on screen. I want to center the window on the screen, but i don't know how to do that. Here's what i've got. The window is created from nib by the main controller: IdentFormController *ftf = [[IdentFormController alloc] initWithWindowNibName:@"IdentForm"]; [[ftf window] makeKeyAndOrderFront:self]; Now the IdentFormController has awakeFromNib() method in which it tries to position the window. For the sake of simplicity i've just tried to do setFrameOrigin(NSMakePoint(0, 0)). What happens is as follows: The first time i create this window, everything works as expected. But if i create it again after releasing the previous, it starts appearing at random positions. Why does it do that?

    Hi there I have the following XML: <data> <page id="1118"> <itms> <values> <value>1104</value> </values> </itms> </page> <page id="1177"> <itms> <values> <value>1273</value> <value>1215</value> </values> </itms> </page> </data> I need to get the @id from the < page , where a certain value is present in one of the < value -tags. The id that need to be in the < value is kept in this: $itm/@id. This means that if my $itm/@id is equal to 1273, I need to get 1177 returned. I'm not quite sure how to achieve this. Actually I could have XML that looks like this as well: <data> <page id="1118"> <itms> <values> <value>1104</value> </values> </itms> </page> <page id="1177"> <itms> <values> <value>1273</value> <value>1215</value> </values> </itms> </page> <page id="1352"> <itms> <values> <value>1242</value> <value>1273</value> </values> </itms> </page> </data> If that's the case, I need the latest id, so this means that if the $itm/@id matches values in more < page 's, then I need to grab the value from the latest page.     I'm building an android application, which has a list view, and in the list view, a click listener, containing an onItemClick method. So I have something like this: public class myList extends ListActivity { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { getListView().setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() { public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) { /* Do something*/ } } } Normally, this works fine. However, many times I find myself needing too preform an application using the outer class as a context. thusfar, I've used: parent.getContext(); to do this, but I would like to know, is that a bad idea? I can't really call: super because it's not really a subclass, just an embedded one. So is there any better way, or is that considered cosure? Also, if it is the right way, what should I do if the embedded method doesn't have a parameter to get the outside class? Thank you.

  • Maintaining white space in html select tag

    Hi, I have a list of strings that I would like to display in a HTML select object. The strings look something like : id - name - description I would like the fields to align however. In PHP I'm using sprintf ("%4s%10s%20s", $id, $name, $description); which works fine. The problem is the multiple spaces is compacted to 1 space in the select list. I tried using the pre and white-space CSS properties of the select box, but it has no effect. Any suggestions?

  • Redirect Entry form in SharePoint back to itself once entry submitted?

    The issue I have is that people in my group are using a link to an Entry Form to post new itmes to a SharePoint list. Everytime they click 'submit' to post new item, SharPoint redirects them to the list. I need a solution for SharePoint to direct them to the empty Entry form instead, no matter how many times they need to use it. Is there such solution? Thanks, I already have this "/EntryForm.aspx?Source=http://" in the link to the Entry form, but works only 2 times, after that will direct to the list.

    I am validating constructor and method arguments, as I want to the software, especially the model part of it, to fail fast. As a result, constructor code often looks like this public MyModelClass(String arg1, String arg2, OtherModelClass otherModelInstance) { if(arg1 == null) { throw new IllegalArgumentsException("arg1 must not be null"); } // further validation of constraints... // actual constructor code... } Is there a way to do that with an annotation driven approach? Something like: public MyModelClass(@NotNull(raise=IllegalArgumentException.class, message="arg1 must not be null") String arg1, @NotNull(raise=IllegalArgumentException.class) String arg2, OtherModelClass otherModelInstance) { // actual constructor code... } In my eyes this would make the actual code a lot more readable.     Hi, Recently the DataSheet view of my list refuses to dispaly. I tried numerouse times and with no luck. Other lists works just fine, except for this one. there is a Java error message on the left bottom corner of the screen that disapears in 2 seconds, then it renders the list in Standard view any time you try it. I even created a new Datasheet View - the result a Standard View. Any suggestions? Thanks,

  • Search relevance from XML docs (XQuery?) vs MySQL

    Hello there, I have a website where documents are saved in xml documents, all with the same structure. I need a search engine where I am able to choose documents with the highest relevance according to the key words given by a searching user. I thought it could (?) be a good idea to have one using XQuery rather than having the information stored twice (in XML docs + mysql database) and querying the mysql database for relevance searches. Is XQuery any good for this, and how, and what speed can I expect on +1000 documents of about 7kb each. Thank you for your time. Kind regards

  • Does isolation frameworks (Moq, RhinoMock, etc) lead to test overspecification?

    In Osherove's great book "The Art of Unit Testing" one of the test anti-patterns is over-specification which is basically the same as testing the internal state of the object instead of some expected output. To my experience, using Isolation frameworks can cause the same unwanted side effects as testing internal behavior because one tends to only implement the behavior necessary to make your stub interact with the object under test. Now if your implementation changes later on (but the contract remains the same), your test will suddenly break because you are expecting some data from the stub which was not implemented. So what do you think is the best approach to counter this? 1) Implement your stubs/mocks fully, this has the negative side-effect of potentially making your test less readable and also specifying more than necessary to make your test pass. 2) Favor manual, fully implemented fakes. 3) Implement your stubs/fakes so that they make your test just pass, and then deal with the brittleness that this might introduce.

    Am I missing something or there really is no support for generic object type hinting in PHP 5.x? I find it really strange that hinting arrays is supported while hinting objects is not, at least not out of the box. I'd like to have something like this: function foo(object $o) Just as we have: function foo(array $o) Example of possible use: methods of an objects collection class. Workaround: using an interface "Object" implemented by all classes or extending all classes from a generic class "Object" and writing something like this: function foo(Object $o) Well, that just ain't cute. Edit: somebody suggested in a deleted post using stdClass. It doesn't work: Catchable fatal error: Argument 1 passed to c::add() must be an instance of stdClass, instance of b given

  • authorization services question cocoa

    Sorry for being a total beginner in cocoa and for asking the following stupid question, but it's too confusing for me to google it myself or maybe i'm just missing something. I need to run a shellscript with elevated privileges in cocoa. As i understand, "AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges" is the correct way to do it. So i've created an application and tried to use some code from one example i found online. The problem is ... if i understand it correctly ... there should be a Security framework in /System/Library/Frameworks that i have to import to the project, but ... it's not there. What am i missing here? Thank you.

  • Intent filter for browsing XML (specifically rss) in android

    I have an activity that I want to run every time the user goes to an xml (specifically rss) page in the browser (at least assuming the user get's it from the list of apps that can support it). I currently already have the current intent filter: <activity android:name=".activities.EpisodesListActivity" android:theme="@android:style/Theme.NoTitleBar"> <intent-filter> <category android:name="android.intent.category.BROWSABLE"></category> <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT"></category> <action android:name="android.intent.action.VIEW"></action> <data android:scheme="http"></data> </intent-filter> </activity> Now as you can guess, this is an evil intent, as it wants to open whenever a page is requested via http. However, when I ad the line: <data android:mimeType="application/rss+xml"></data> to make it: <activity android:name=".activities.EpisodesListActivity" android:theme="@android:style/Theme.NoTitleBar"> <intent-filter> <category android:name="android.intent.category.BROWSABLE"></category> <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT"></category> <action android:name="android.intent.action.VIEW"></action> <data android:scheme="http"></data> <data android:mimeType="application/rss+xml"></data> </intent-filter> </activity> The application no longer claims to be able to run rss files. Also, if I change the line to: <data android:mimeType="application/xml"></data> It also won't work (for generic xml file even). So what intent filter do I need to make in order to claim that the activity supports rss. (Also, bonus points if you can tell me how I know what URL it was the user opened. So far, I've always sent that information from one activity to the other using extras). Thank you for your help

  • Glassfish 3: How do I get and use a developers build so I can navigate a stack trace including Glas

    I am migrating a JSF 1.1 application to JEE 6 Web profile, and doing it in steps. I am in the process of moving from JSP with JSF 1.1 to Facelets under JSF 1.2 using the jsf-facelets.jar for JSF 1.2, and received an "interesting" stack trace when trying to lookup a key in a Map using a "{Bean.foo.map.key}" where the stacktrace complained about "key" not being a valid integer. (After code introspection I am workarounding it using a number as the key). That bug is not what this question is about. In such a situation it is essential to be able to navigate the source of every line in the stack trace. In Eclipse I normally attach a source jar to every jar on the build path, but in this particular case the Glassfish server adapter creates a library automatically containing the jars. Also there is to my knowledge no debug build of Glassfish where sources are included in the bundle. Glassfish is a non-trivial Maven project, and a bit picky too. I am not very familiar with maven, but have managed to checkout the code from Subversion and build it for the 3.0 tag according to http://wiki.glassfish.java.net/Wiki.jsp?page=V3FullBuildInstructions#section-V3FullBuildInstructions-CheckoutTheWorkspace - it appears to be the code corresponding to the official released 3.0 version. After finishing the "mvn -U install" part, I have then tried to create Eclipse projects by first using "mvn -DdownloadSources=true eclipse:eclipse" and then import them in Eclipse JEE 3.5.2 and specifying the M2_REPO variable but many of the projects still have compilation errors, and I cannot locate any instructions from Oracle about how to do this. I'd appreciate some help in just getting a functional IDE workspace reflecting the 3.0 version of Glassfish. I have Eclipse 3.5.2, Netbeans 6.8 and 6.9 beta, and IntelliJ IDEA 9, and Linux/Windows/OS X do do it on.

  • Calculation error in Datasheet view in SharePoint

    I have a custom list, with calculation, in SharePoint. Everything worked fine until recently when the DataSheet will show strange or wrong % calculation in a % column. But the Standard View will show correct values. IT checked the server side and everything looked ok, I checked the formulas and even re-did them in the column and the issue persist.
