  • iPhone - How do you make a resizable rectangle for cropping images?

    Hi everyone, I'm having a trouble making a re-sizable rectangle for cropping my images. I'm trying to achieve something like this picture: http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/8930/customcropbox.jpg Well, the only problem is I have no clue where to actually start. I need some advice to how I can achieve this effect of cropping. What documentation should I read up on? Core Graphics or Quartz 2d? Both? I've been coding for the iPhone since it's release date but I've never actually used core graphics and etc. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I'll throw my code up here as I progress to show how it's done when I achieve it. :-) Also, this rectangular box is moveable across the screen in a UIImageView which just makes it more interesting. Thanks for the help and I look forward to achieving this goal.

    So I'm trying to register for the MPMoviePlayerDidExitFullscreenNotification notification in my universal app (iPhone and iPad). Problem is, OS 3.1.3 doesn't support this notification, and just crashes. I've tried version checking, like so: if ([MPMoviePlayerController instancesRespondToSelector:@selector(setShouldAutoplay:)]) {//Check for shouldSetAutoplay, this ensures that we are running at least 3.2 [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(playerDidFinish:) name:(NSString*)class2 object:[self player]]; Doesn't work, still crashes. How do I do this?

    Currently I have this for my file path and file... NSURL *storeUrl = [NSURL fileURLWithPath: [[self applicationDocumentsDirectory] stringByAppendingPathComponent: @"Shared\PartyPlanner.sqlite"]]; This allows me to share the file with iTunes, but instead of just having 'PartyPlanner.sqlite' in the 'applicationDocumentsDirectory\Shared' I have "SharedPartyPlanner.sqlite" in the 'applicationDocumentsDirectory' is there a cleaner or easier way to get to the shared folder inside of applicationDocumentsDirectory?

  • shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation called several times in a row without any rotation

    I am trying to implement some interface changes in my app, based on the device rotation. My app is a view based app. So, its main view controller has a didload method. The app starts in portrait. Almost all changes on the device orientation triggers the shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation method but this method is not called when the device is put on portrait, after coming from any landscape orientation. While debugging the app, I have put a NSLog(@"orientation=%d", interfaceOrientation); on my shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation method, and what I see is quite strange: When I run the app, shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation is called 6 times before the app's interface even appears. Every time it runs, it reports a different number for the orientation: the order it reports on console is: portrait, portrait, portrait, landscape right, landscape left, upside down) (????). During this time the app is just beginning. All 6 times the debugger reports the method being run by the app's delegate. So, here comes the questions: WHy shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation is not being called when the device enters on portrait? Why is this method running 6 times called by the delegate even before the app starts and shows its interface if no rotation is being done? thanks.

  • Cannot Expand/Collapse tasks in Microsoft Project 2010

    I opened an existing Microsoft Project file today and was unable to expand/collapse the subtasks use the cursor and the '+/-' signs beside the parent tasks. I am able to expand and collapse using the 'View-Outline' ribbon icon. However when I attempt to do this using the mouse on specific tasks, my cursor will not perform the task. My cursor is a 'white cross' when I need it to be an 'arrow'. I'm assuming this is something minor that I'm missing. Any assistance appreciated. Thanks

    I need to change about 100 DNS records and IIS configurations on a Windows 2003 web server. The gui doesn't accommodate it and the MS command line tools seem incomplete (for example: dnscmd cannot edit a record, only create). Is there a third party tool out there I can use? Basically I just need to change one IP address to another. <vent It's frustrating that what would take a simple search and replace in Linux is this massive exercise under Windows. I mean IIS 6 wasn't Microsoft's first web platform! What were they thinking??? </vent

  • Weird outline numbering in Microsoft Word 2008

    This is quite a weird question, as I think I am asking the opposite of what most people want to try and achieve with outline numbering in Microsoft Word. The outline numbering associated with the styles "Heading 1" and "Heading 2" are fine and working as normal, but the outline numbering associated with all the heading styles from "Heading 3" onwards are broken. Here is a summary of how they look: 1 1.1 1.2 2 2.1 3 3.1 1.1.1 1.1.2 4 4.1 1.1.3 So you can see that while the first two headings are numbering correctly down the document, the third level heading doesn't restart and it doesn't have the correct 1st and 2nd level numbering - they all have '1.1' as a prefix. These are all controlled by the heading styles and I have tried every combination of options in the outline numbering section of the styles. Short of building a whole new template, recreating all my custom styles and then pasting the text across, I really don't know what to do. Before I try that, does anyone know what is going on here?

    Hello, I would like to be able use some sort of C++ style commenting for Microsoft Word. E.g. If I have // line of text the entire line should be a comment and should appear in a different colour. Same goes for: /* text block */ I would want text block to be in a different colour than my main text. Another feature that would be nice but not necessary for me to have is some sort of a way to quickly strip all the comments. I have no idea how this could be done, if possible. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Merge changes in Microsoft Word documents

    I'm using Microsoft Word 2002 to maintain some documentation. The documents are stored in a version control repository (Subversion) together with the source code it documents. My Subversion client (TortoiseSVN) comes with a little VBA script that allows to leverage the built-in revisions feature when merging different branches. In other words, when I want to copy changes from one document to another, Word compares both documents (source and target) and builds a third document that has the contents of the source doc tagged as revisions, so I can then review differences one by one and confirm or discard changes. While this is handy, it also means that making a single change to the source document forces me to review all the differences between both documents and discard all of them except the only actual change. My questions is... Do you know about an application or plug-in that's able to find the differences between two Word documents and apply those differences to a third document? (I know 2002 is very old but that's what my company gives me; I'm open to solutions that use newer versions though.)

Get Lost (interrupted) - When we do some work and somebody is calling or interrepting by someother way we lose track of what we were doing and we need to do from the start Falling Behind- Technology gets updated  phenomenally over a period of time and developers always have a scenario like they are not in the state of the art technology and they always have a doubt whether they are staying updated. Lack of Collobaration - When a Manager asks a person what the team members have done and some might be done and some might not be and finally all are into a state like we dont know where we are. So they have addressed these 3 points in the VS 2010 by the following features : Get Lost - Some cool features which could overcome this. We have some Graphical interface. which could show what we have done and where we are. Some Zoom features in the code level. Falling Behind - Everything is based on .NET language base. 2010 has been built in such a way that if developers know the native language that's enough for building good applications. For each product different menu filters were provided to make an advanced search 3. BING Maps was awesome!! It zoomed in to the street level and we can assume that we are the persons who are walking or running on the road and we can see the real objects like buildings moving by our side. 4. PhotoSynth was used in BING to show up all the images taken around the globe in a 3D format. 5. Formula - If we give some formula it automatically gives the value for the variable or derivation of expression Also some info about some kool touch apps which does an authentication and computation of Teched Attendee's Points that they have scored and the sessions attended. One guy won an XBOX in lucky draw as a gift.     We’ve just released Version 2.0.1 of Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java.  This new version has several great enhancements added after I wrote about the first version of the SDK in 2010.  In addition to the AppsDataSource and Java Authentication and Authorization Service (JAAS) features that are in the first version, the Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java now provides: Session management APIs, so you can share session information with Oracle E-Business Suite Setup script for UNIX/Linux for AppsDataSource and JAAS on Oracle WebLogic Server APIs for Message Dictionary, User Profiles, and NLS Javadoc for the APIs (included with the patch) Enhanced documentation included with Note 974949.1 These features can be used with either Release 11i or Release 12.  References AppsDataSource, Java Authentication and Authorization Service, and Utilities for Oracle E-Business Suite (Note 974949.1) FAQ for Integration of Oracle E-Business Suite and Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF) Applications (Doc ID 1296491.1) What's new in those references? EBS SDK for Java Use Cases The uses of the Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java fall into two general scenarios for integrating external applications with Oracle E-Business Suite: Application sharing a session with Oracle E-Business Suite Independent application (not shared session) With an independent application, the external application accesses Oracle E-Business  Suite data and server-side APIs, but it has a completely separate user interface. The external application may also launch pages from the Oracle E-Business Suite home page, but after the initial launch there is no further communication with the Oracle E-Business Suite user interface. Shared session integration means that the external application uses an Oracle E-Business Suite session (ICX session), shares session context information with Oracle E-Business Suite, and accesses Oracle E-Business Suite data. The external application may also launch pages from the Oracle E-Business Suite home page, or regions or pages from the external application may be embedded as regions within Oracle Application Framework pages. Both shared session applications and independent applications use the AppsDataSource feature of the Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java. Independent applications may also use the Java Authentication and Authorization (JAAS) and logging features of the SDK. Applications that are sharing the Oracle E-Business Suite session use the session management feature (instead of the JAAS feature), and they may also use the logging, profiles, and Message Dictionary features of the SDK.  The session management APIs allow you to create, retrieve, validate and cancel an Oracle E-Business Suite session (ICX session) from your external application.  Session information and context can travel back and forth between Oracle E-Business Suite and your application, allowing you to share session context information across applications. After playing with several open-source Kinect projects, I am please to announce that Microsoft has released the official SDK beta on 6/16/2011. I’ve created this quick start guide to get you up to speed in no time flat. Let’s begin: What is it? The Kinect for Windows SDK beta is a starter kit for applications developers that includes APIs, sample code, and drivers. This SDK enables the academic research and enthusiast communities to create rich experiences by using Microsoft Xbox 360 Kinect sensor technology on computers running Windows 7. Next up is SkeletalViewer.exe (image taken from http://www.i-programmer.info/news/91-hardware/2619-microsoft-launch-kinect-sdk-beta.html as I could not get a good image using SnagIt) At this point, you will have to download Kinect Mouse Cursor – This is really cool because you can use your hands to control the mouse cursor. I actually used this to resize itself. Last up is Kinect Paint – This is very cool, just make sure you read the instructions! MS Paint on steroids! A few tips for getting started building Kinect Applications. It appears WPF is the way to go with building Kinect Applications. You must also use a version of Visual Studio 2010.  Your going to need to reference Microsoft.Research.Kinect.dll when building a Kinect Application. Right click on References and then goto Browse and navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Research KinectSDK and select Microsoft.Research.Kinect.dll. You are going to want to make sure your project has the Platform target set to x86. The Coding4Fun Kinect Toolkit really makes things easier with extension methods and controls. Just note that this is for WinForms or WPF. Conclusion It looks like we have a lot of fun in store with the Kinect SDK. I’m very excited about the release and have already been thinking about all the applications that I can begin building. It seems that development will be easier now that we have an official SDK and the great work from Coding4Fun.   • How Microsoft Market DotNet?

    I just read an Joel's article about Microsoft's breaking change (non-backwards compatibility) with dot net's introduction. It is interesting and explicitly reflected the condition during that time. But now almost 10 years has passed. The breaking change It is mainly on how bad is Microsoft introducing non-backwards compatibility development tools, such as dot net, instead of improving the already-widely used asp classic or VB6. As much have known, dot net is not natively embedded in windows XP (yes in vista or 7), so in order to use the .net apps, you need to install the .net framework of over 300mb (it's big that day). However, as we see that nowadays many business use .net as their main development tools, with asp.net or mvc as their web-based applications. C# nowadays be one of tops programming languages (the most questions in stackoverflow). The more interesing part is, win32api still alive even there is newer technology out there (and still widely used). Imagine if microsoft does not introduce the breaking change, there will many corporates still uses asp classic or vb-based applications (there still is, but not that much). There are many corporates use additional services such as azure or sharepoint (beside how expensive is it). Please note that I also know there are many flagships applications (maybe adobe's and blizzard's) still use C-based or older language and not porting to newer high-level language. The question How can Microsoft persuade the users to migrate their old applications into dot net? As we have known it is very hard and give no immediate value when rewrite the applications (netscape story), and it is very risky. I am more interested in Microsoft's way and not opinion such as "because dot net is OOP, or dot net is dll-embedable, etc". This question may be constructive, as the technology is vastly changes over times lately. As we can see, Microsoft changes Asp.Net webform to MVC, winform is legacy now, it is starting to change to use windows store rather than basic-installment, touchscreen and later on we will have see-through applications such as google class. And that will be breaking changes. We will need to account portability as an issue nowadays. We will need other than just mere technology choice, but also migration plans. Even maybe as critical as we might need multiplatform language compiler, as approached by Joel's Wasabi. (hey, I read his articles too much!)
