  • Restore "lost" user after Active Directory removal?

    Is it possible to restore lost users after Active Directory unistallation ? (I forgot to switch users to local users) The computer run Windows Server 2008 R2 Entreprise, and all the registry linked to the user i want to restore seems to still be there, user's folder is still on the harddrive, and useraccount2 still show the user (But flagged as unknown user) Some folders still have rigts set to this lost user, and even the local default Admin account cannot open/delete the folder. (But the real problem here is to find how to recover users account, the folder can be deleted an other way) All users i want te restore was originaly local users, converted to domain users after Active Directory installation. I think that if i can change user's sid (choosing the sid manually) i'll be able to easily recover rights on folders Regards

How does User-A, inform me (Sys Admin), that he has lost his key, and How do I manage all the servers to which he had access to (I do not have a list, of all Servers that User-A has access to). In other words, How do I recall, the public key associated with this Private key. REF: In the LDAP based Authentication, All Servers would communicate with a single Server repository for Authentication, and If I remove acess or modify the password on the Server, all Systems that use this LDAP for Authentication are secured, when User-A loses his password..

  • Shared resources in Windows Server 2008 were lost

    We have an Oracle database in Windows Server 2003, which has its archived redo logs stored on a shared resource of a Windows Server 2008: \\192.168.1.189\d$\folder_for_archivedlogs However, according to Oracle's alert.log, at 10:01 p.m that shared resource got lost and the database was inaccessible. From my Windows Server 2003, on Windows Explorer, I couldn't access that shared resource, but I got a response when I did ping 192.168.1.189. I reviewed all the Event Logs on that Windows 2008, but there is no error at 10:00pm or 11:00pm. Has anyone seen some similar case before? (Shared resources get lost, but you still can ping the server and there are no error events in the Event Logs).

  • All application passwords lost on Windows 7

    A couple of days ago I changed my Windows 7 login password. My laptop is on my company's domain, so password changes are done over the internal network. Since changing the password I noticed that all my saved Chrome passwords are missing. Also Skype, Windows Live, Internet Explorer and Outlook lost their saved passwords. I guess there could be more applications with lost passwords, but I have not opened them yet. This makes me think that most applications saves their passwords to a general password vault on the Windows system and this vault got somehow corrupted when I changed my domain login password for windows. Do anyone have any idea of how to fix this and prevent it from happening again? EDIT : More Info I do development work at the office, so most of the time I bypass the firewall and connect directly to the internet gateway. Now and then I would connect to the company wifi network to do printing and access files on a NAS. So by default my laptop does not connect to the wifi hotspot. On this occasion to update the password, I had to connect to the wifi. So referring to the comment by OmnipotentEntity below, could this have happened when the system rebooted without a connection to the network as the laptop does not auto connect to the wifi hotspot?

  • Lost user account for Windows Vista

    Hello, I'm trying to help a friend who's lost her user account in Vista. I know there's supposed to be a way you can boot the computer from the vista installation disc and create an admin account you can later login with, but her installation disc is in Australia and her laptop in London. Is there any other way to get in? Or would it be better to try and access just the harddrive? She's mainly concerned with getting all her data off it. As for how she lost the account, I'll let her explain in her words. :) My computer basically got some virus and now is up sh*t creek. it told me i had this cryptic thingy majiggy was missing and then this fake virus told me i needed to scan my computer. SO i tried to do malware thing but it kept shutting my computer down. ANYWAY...now its it will only open up with 'launch startup repair' and has got rid of my settings for logging in and wants me to be 'other user' which i have no password or username for'...so basically im stuffed.   • Thunderbird 3.1.7 file system and file extensions

    I have lost all email messages and folders in my Thunderbird program. Where can I look for them? The messages were organized in folders for several years. My system is Windows XP. I have looked in the Thunderbird Profiles default profile folder. I can see Inbox and Trash but none of the other folders I have set up are visible. I cannot directly open Inbox or Trash so I don't know if my lost messages are in these folders. Others in the Community Forum seem to have the same problem but no one has answered them or me. Is there someone in this community who can help? Thank you, Sharon Bode

server part): Server (172.22.37.4) is Windows Server 2008 R2 and client (192.168.4.213) is Ericsson telephone exchange of whom I do not know much. Client sends a file to server using FTAM protocol. This problem happens very often. I think, either client or server is doing sliding window protocol wrong. Server sends dup ack, client retransmits lost packet, but soon after client sends packets with wrong seq. Again, Server sends dup ack, client retransmits lost packet - but, this time with longer retransmission timeout. Again, client sends packet with wrong seq. Etc... Retransmission timeout grows to circa 4 minutes and communications never recovers to normal.

  • Win7 + SysPrep + CloneZilla = lost settings

    I've just cloned a PC (Win7 + SysPrep + CloneZilla) and after starting up the new clone, Win7 wants to be reactivated again and the video driver seems to be missing (as in the aero effect has disappeared from the new clone) and the internet connection settings seem to be missing too. All those were set in the master before running SysPrep. Why have these settings been lost? The master PC was had windows 7 activated using a volume license key, and the clone pc is the same make and model as the master computer.

  • Transferring slides from one computer to another and the images are lost

    I used OpenOffice Impress to make some slides for a presentation and when I try to transfer the slides to another computer the images are lost, with text displayed in their place describing the location that the images could be found. This happens when I save in odp and ppt and also when I try to upload the slides to Google Docs. Any idea what is wrong? While making the slides I just dragged and dropped the images into the presentation.

    I have managed to trash my homebrew Nas box (an old hp d530 + 2x 750gb sata soft raid1 + 17gb boot disk with ubuntu server 8.10) I have searched the web and tried to repair the file system but to no avail :( I was thinking that the dirs/files located under the root of the lost+found directory are 64 bit numbers. Is there any way that I could decant the number into binary form, from there reconstruct the directory/file structure. More to the point can anyone point to the information on how xfs inodes are broken down(does that make sense)?

  • Wireless traffic stops when downloading large files at high speed: packets lost (Linksys WRT120N router)

    The problem Note: First I'd like to understand WHY this is happening. Ofcourse, a solution would be nice too. :) When downloading a large file over HTTP at high-speeds, my wireless traffic basically stops: I can't open webpages and the download itself pauses. It pauses pretty much immediately after starting it; sometimes at 800 KB, sometimes at a few MB. After some time, the download (and other traffic) resumes, but the problem keeps reoccurring during the same download. The problem does not occur when using a wired connection through the same router (Linskys WRT120N). Also note that the connection is not dropped when this happens. It's just that the traffic stops and I can't browse to web pages, etc. (SYN packets are sent but nothing is received, etc.) Inspection with Wireshark shows that the following happens: Server sends data packets which are acknowledged by client Server sends a packet, but SEQ indicates some packets were lost (6 packets in one occurrence). Server sends a few more packets and client acknowledges these using "selective acknowledgement" Server stops sending data for a while (since the lost packets were not acknowledged or the router stops forwarding them?) Eventually, server does a "retransmission" and traffic resumes as normal. This all seems normal behavior to me when packet loss occurs. It's the consistent packet loss throughout a large, high-speed download that puzzles me. What might cause this? My own idea is the following: My internet is pretty fast (100 mbps), so when starting a large-file download, the router buffers the incoming data (since wireless introduces some slight delay / lower speed, in part due to other networks), but the buffer overflows and the router drops packets to regulate traffic (and because it has no choice). But how could that happen? Doesn't the TCP window size limit the amount of data that can go unacknowledged? So how can the router's buffer overflow if there can only be like 64 KB waiting to be acknowledged? Note: I've disabled TCP window scaling and dynamic window size through netsh options, in an attempt to fix this, but it doesn't seem to matter. Also, Wireshark shows a pattern of the server sending 2 packets (of 1514 bytes) and the client sending an ACK, so does that rule out a possible buffer overflow? And a few more subsequent packets are received... I'm at a loss here. Thanks for any insights.     I have a flash drive that was used primarily on a Mac, and it was ejected improperly. Now when I put it back in, the computer (I tried 2 different Macs,and 3 PCs) does not even register the flash drive- it does not show up in Finder or in My Computer. Any ideas how to get the lost files back?

After reconnecting it to my computer and starting iTunes I noticed that the individual songs stored on the external drive are now lost (they have a little exclamation mark next to them). iTunes offers me to locate the songs one by one, but I have thousands of songs. Is there a better solution to reconnect my collection in iTunes?

  • I lost the menu inside of Explorer (file browser) under Windows XP

    The question says it all. Inside of the file explorer under Windows XP, I lost all menu items from the top, as well as the toolbars. And right-clicking only gives me the file/directory context menu, nothing to restore the toolbar or the menu. Help. I don't use Windows so much (I much prefer linux), so I don't know all the latest tricks and hacks. Merci :-)

    I foolishly removed my USB stick from a Windows XP machine seemingly without unmounting it (or whatever the Window equivalent is..). Anyway, on inserting the stick into my linux machine, the file I was working on shows up, but it is completely empty (0KB). Since I'm pretty much a Windows novice these days, I'd like to know if there is any temporary location where I will still be able to find this file, or is it now lost permanently?

    I have a virtual machine on Vsphere 5.0 running Ubuntu 12.04 when i put dinamic IP (/etc/network/interfaces) iface eth0 inet dhcp Ubuntu have network and i can do ping to google for example (8.8.8.8) but when i put static IP and configure resolv.conf My interfaces file: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.54 gateway 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 it lost the network and i cant do ping to anything...i dont understand where is the problem...     I have this twisted client, which connects with a twisted server having an index. I ran this client from command-line. It worked fine. Now I modified it to run in loop (see main()) so that I can keep querying. But the client runs only once. Next time it simply says connection lost \n Connection lost - goodbye!. What am i doing wrong?   • Recover a lost IBM DS4300 SAN password?

    I have a pair of IBM DS4300 SAN units that I need to perform a firmware upgrade on. Unfortunately the admin passwords on these units have been lost and now need to be reset. I had hoped the default password of 'infiniti' would work but it seems that it must have been changed. I know the method here is to contact IBM but the cost of that phone call is ludicrous if someone out here knows what they're going to tell me to do. These units are out of warranty and the cost of support is beyond what we have the budget for. Is there an interrupt I can enter during the boot process (similar to a cisco password recovery) or is there a hardware/software tool I require? Please, if anyone has ever gone through the process of an IBM password recovery I’m asking for a little help. EDIT: Just to clarify, the password I need to reset is the one used for serial cable access and not for storage manager. Sorry if I have caused more confusion.

  • Lost Internet access in Windows XP Mode virtual pc under Windows 7

    In my office, I created and configured a virtual pc in Windows XP Mode. Everything was working fine. Now I'm on the road, and my Internet access (in the host operation system) is either via a hotel wifi or through my Verizon air card. Either way, I've lost Internet access in the virtual pc. I went into the Virtual PC settings, and set the Networking value to Shared Networking (NAT). Actually, I've tried every combination I can find, but I can't get from the virtual pc to the web. I'm hoping to use the virtual box at a client site, so I really need that access. Is there anything I can do to get it back? Thanks for any help.
