  • How can I prevent segmentation faults in my program?

    - by worlds-apart89
    I have a C assignment. It is a lot longer than the code shown below, and we are given the function prototypes and instructions only. I have done my best at writing code, but I am stuck with segmentation faults. When I compile and run the program below on Linux, at "735 NaN" it will terminate, indicating a segfault occurred. Why? What am I doing wrong? Basically, the program does not let me access table-list_array[735]-value and table-list_array[735]-key. This is of course the first segfault. There might be more following index 735. #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> typedef struct list_node list_node_t; struct list_node { char *key; int value; list_node_t *next; }; typedef struct count_table count_table_t; struct count_table { int size; list_node_t **list_array; }; count_table_t* table_allocate(int size) { count_table_t *ptr = malloc(sizeof(count_table_t)); ptr->size = size; list_node_t *nodes[size]; int k; for(k=0; k<size; k++){ nodes[k] = NULL; } ptr->list_array = nodes; return ptr; } void table_addvalue(count_table_t *table) { int i; for(i=0; i<table->size; i++) { table->list_array[i] = malloc(sizeof(list_node_t)); table->list_array[i]->value = i; table->list_array[i]->key = "NaN"; table->list_array[i]->next = NULL; } } int main() { count_table_t *table = table_allocate(1000); table_addvalue(table); int i; for(i=0; i<table->size; i++) printf("%d %s\n", table->list_array[i]->value, table->list_array[i]->key); return 0; }

  • howto create a new Date() in Javascript from a non-standard date format

    - by Michel
    hi, i have a date in this format : dd.mm.yyyy when i instantiate a javascript date with it, it gives me a NaN in c# i can specify a dateformat, to say: here you have my string, it's in this format, please make a Datetime of it. is this possible in javascript too, and if not, is there an easy way? i would prefer not to use a substring for day, substring for month etc. because my method must also be capable of german, italian, english etc dates.

  • DirectX Unproject troubles

    - by pivotnig
    I have an orthographic projection and I try to unproject a point from screen space. Following are the view and projection matrices: var w2 = ScreenWidthInPixels/2; var h2 = ScreenHeightInPixels/2; view = Matrix.LookAtLH(new Vector3(0, 0, -1), new Vector3(0, 0, 0), Vector3.UnitY); proj = Matrix.OrthoOffCenterLH(-w2, w2, -h2, h2, 0.1f, 10f); Here is how I unproject a Point p, the point is given in screen pixels: var m = Vector3.Unproject(p, 0, 0, ScreenWidthInPixels, ScreenHeightInPixels, 0.1f, 10f, // znear and zfar view *proj); My code doesn't work, the matrix m contains only Nan. When I try to invert view * proj I get back a Matrix with only zeros. So I suspect my problem has something to do with the orthographic projection matrix. Here are my questions: Could the problem be caused by an underflow due to the large values in the OrthoOffCenterLH projection? What parameters do I have to pass for x,y,width,height in Unproject(...)? What significance has the minZ and maxZ parameter in Unproject(...)? Does it matter what I pass for p.Z in Unproject(...)?

  • WPF ListView as a DataGrid – Part 2

    - by psheriff
    In my last blog post I showed you how to create GridViewColumn objects on the fly from the meta-data in a DataTable. By doing this you can create columns for a ListView at runtime instead of having to pre-define each ListView for each different DataTable. Well, many of us use collections of our classes and it would be nice to be able to do the same thing for our collection classes as well. This blog post will show you one approach for using collection classes as the source of the data for your ListView.  Figure 1: A List of Data using a ListView Load Property NamesYou could use reflection to gather the property names in your class, however there are two things wrong with this approach. First, reflection is too slow, and second you may not want to display all your properties from your class in the ListView. Instead of reflection you could just create your own custom collection class of PropertyHeader objects. Each PropertyHeader object will contain a property name and a header text value at a minimum. You could add a width property if you wanted as well. All you need to do is to create a collection of property header objects where each object represents one column in your ListView. Below is a simple example: PropertyHeaders coll = new PropertyHeaders(); coll.Add(new PropertyHeader("ProductId", "Product ID"));coll.Add(new PropertyHeader("ProductName", "Product Name"));coll.Add(new PropertyHeader("Price", "Price")); Once you have this collection created, you could pass this collection to a method that would create the GridViewColumn objects based on the information in this collection. Below is the full code for the PropertyHeader class. Besides the PropertyName and Header properties, there is a constructor that will allow you to set both properties when the object is created. C#public class PropertyHeader{  public PropertyHeader()  {  }   public PropertyHeader(string propertyName, string headerText)  {    PropertyName = propertyName;    HeaderText = headerText;  }   public string PropertyName { get; set; }  public string HeaderText { get; set; }} VB.NETPublic Class PropertyHeader  Public Sub New()  End Sub   Public Sub New(ByVal propName As String, ByVal header As String)    PropertyName = propName    HeaderText = header  End Sub   Private mPropertyName As String  Private mHeaderText As String   Public Property PropertyName() As String    Get      Return mPropertyName    End Get    Set(ByVal value As String)      mPropertyName = value    End Set  End Property   Public Property HeaderText() As String    Get      Return mHeaderText    End Get    Set(ByVal value As String)      mHeaderText = value    End Set  End PropertyEnd Class You can use a Generic List class to create a collection of PropertyHeader objects as shown in the following code. C#public class PropertyHeaders : List<PropertyHeader>{} VB.NETPublic Class PropertyHeaders  Inherits List(Of PropertyHeader)End Class Create Property Header Objects You need to create a method somewhere that will create and return a collection of PropertyHeader objects that will represent the columns you wish to add to your ListView prior to binding your collection class to that ListView. Below is a sample method called GetProperties that builds a list of PropertyHeader objects with properties and headers for a Product object. C#public PropertyHeaders GetProperties(){  PropertyHeaders coll = new PropertyHeaders();   coll.Add(new PropertyHeader("ProductId", "Product ID"));  coll.Add(new PropertyHeader("ProductName", "Product Name"));  coll.Add(new PropertyHeader("Price", "Price"));   return coll;} VB.NETPublic Function GetProperties() As PropertyHeaders  Dim coll As New PropertyHeaders()   coll.Add(New PropertyHeader("ProductId", "Product ID"))  coll.Add(New PropertyHeader("ProductName", "Product Name"))  coll.Add(New PropertyHeader("Price", "Price"))   Return collEnd Function WPFListViewCommon Class Now that you have a collection of PropertyHeader objects you need a method that will create a GridView and a collection of GridViewColumn objects based on this PropertyHeader collection. Below is a static/Shared method that you might put into a class called WPFListViewCommon. C#public static GridView CreateGridViewColumns(  PropertyHeaders properties){  GridView gv;  GridViewColumn gvc;   // Create the GridView  gv = new GridView();  gv.AllowsColumnReorder = true;   // Create the GridView Columns  foreach (PropertyHeader item in properties)  {    gvc = new GridViewColumn();    gvc.DisplayMemberBinding = new Binding(item.PropertyName);    gvc.Header = item.HeaderText;    gvc.Width = Double.NaN;    gv.Columns.Add(gvc);  }   return gv;} VB.NETPublic Shared Function CreateGridViewColumns( _    ByVal properties As PropertyHeaders) As GridView  Dim gv As GridView  Dim gvc As GridViewColumn   ' Create the GridView  gv = New GridView()  gv.AllowsColumnReorder = True   ' Create the GridView Columns  For Each item As PropertyHeader In properties    gvc = New GridViewColumn()    gvc.DisplayMemberBinding = New Binding(item.PropertyName)    gvc.Header = item.HeaderText    gvc.Width = [Double].NaN    gv.Columns.Add(gvc)  Next   Return gvEnd Function Build the Product Screen To build the window shown in Figure 1, you might write code like the following: C#private void CollectionSample(){  Product prod = new Product();   // Setup the GridView Columns  lstData.View = WPFListViewCommon.CreateGridViewColumns(       prod.GetProperties());  lstData.DataContext = prod.GetProducts();} VB.NETPrivate Sub CollectionSample()  Dim prod As New Product()   ' Setup the GridView Columns  lstData.View = WPFListViewCommon.CreateGridViewColumns( _       prod.GetProperties())  lstData.DataContext = prod.GetProducts()End Sub The Product class contains a method called GetProperties that returns a PropertyHeaders collection. You pass this collection to the WPFListViewCommon’s CreateGridViewColumns method and it will create a GridView for the ListView. When you then feed the DataContext property of the ListView the Product collection the appropriate columns have already been created and data bound. Summary In this blog you learned how to create a ListView that acts like a DataGrid using a collection class. While it does take a little code to do this, it is an alternative to creating each GridViewColumn in XAML. This gives you a lot of flexibility. You could even read in the property names and header text from an XML file for a truly configurable ListView. • Why, in WPF, do we set an object to Stretch via its Alignment properties instead of Width/Height?

    - by Jonathan Hobbs
    In WPF's XAML, we can tell an element to fill its container like this: <Button HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" /> Why is it that when we set an element to Stretch, we do it via the HorizontalAlignment and VerticalAlignment properties? Why did the WPF design team decide to take this approach over having Width="Stretch" and Height="Stretch"? I presume it was a calculated decision, and I'm curious about the reasoning. CSS, among other technologies, follows the convention that stretching is done via the width and height properties, and that alignment affects positioning exclusively. This seems intuitive enough: stretching the element is manipulating its width and height, after all! Using the corresponding alignment property to stretch an element seems counter-intuitive and unusual in comparison. This makes me think they didn't just pick this option for no reason: they made a calculated decision and had reasons behind it. Width and Height use the double data type, which would ordinarily mean assigning it a string would be silly. However, WPF's Window objects can take Width="Auto", which gets treated as double.NaN. Couldn't Width="Stretch" be stored as double.PositiveInfinity or some other value?

  • Finite Numbers and ExplorerCanvas

    - by PhubarBaz
    I was working on my online mathematical graphing application, CloudGraph, and trying to make it work in IE. The app uses the HTML5 canvas element to draw graphs. Since IE doesn't support canvas yet I use ExplorerCanvas to provide that support for IE. However, it seems that when using excanvas, if you try to moveTo or drawTo a point that is not finite it loses it's mind and stops drawing anything else after that. I had no such problems in Firefox or Chrome so it took me awhile to figure out what was going on. Next I discovered that I needed a way to check if a variable was NaN or Inifinity or any other non-finite value so I could avoid calling moveTo() in that case. I started writing a long if statement, then I thought there has to be a better way. Sure enough there was. There just happens to be an isFinite() function built into Javascript just for this purpose. Who knew! It works great. Another difference I discovered with excanvas is that you must specify a starting point using a moveTo() when beginning a drawing path. Again, Chrome and Firefox are a lot more forgiving in this area so it took me a while to figure out why my lines weren't drawing. But, all is happy now and I'm a little wiser to the ways of the canvas.

  • Silverlight RelativeSource of TemplatedParent Binding within a DataTemplate, Is it possible?

    - by Matt.M
    I'm trying to make a bar graph Usercontrol. I'm creating each bar using a DataTemplate. The problem is in order to compute the height of each bar, I first need to know the height of its container (the TemplatedParent). Unfortunately what I have: Height="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}, Path=Height, Converter={StaticResource HeightConverter}, Mode=OneWay}" Does not work. Each time a value of NaN is returned to my Converter. Does RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent} not work in this context? What else can I do to allow my DataTemplate to "talk" to the element it is being applied to? Incase it helps here is the barebones DataTemplate: <DataTemplate x:Key="BarGraphTemplate"> <Grid Width="30"> <Rectangle HorizontalAlignment="Center" Stroke="Black" Width="20" Height="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}, Path=Height, Converter={StaticResource HeightConverter}, Mode=OneWay}" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" /> </Grid> </DataTemplate>

  • Does Javascript/EcmaScript3 support ISO8601 date parsing?

    - by AlexanderN
    How are you currently parsing ISO8601 dates e.g. 2010-02-23T23:04:48Z in JavaScript? Some browsers return NaN (including Chrome) when using the code below, FF3.6+ works though. <html> <body> <script type="text/javascript"> var d = Date.parse("2010-02-23T23:04:48Z"); document.write(d); </script> </body> </html> You can try this here http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/tryit.asp?filename=tryjsref_parse ps: DateJs doesn't seem to support ISO8601 parsing.

  • OpenLayers Projections.

    - by Jenny
    I can succesfully do: point.transform(new OpenLayers.Projection("EPSG:900913"), new OpenLayers.Projection("EPSG:4326")); To a point that is in the google format (in meters), but when I want to do the reverse: point.transform(new OpenLayers.Projection("EPSG:4326"), new OpenLayers.Projection("EPSG:900913")); to a point that is in 4326 (regular lat/lon format), I am having some issues. Any negative value seems to become NaN (not a number) when I do the transformation. Is there something about the transformation in reverse that I don't understand? Edit: Even worse, when I have no negative values, the coordinates seem off. I am getting the coordinates by drawing a square on the screen, then saving those coordinates to a database and loading them later. I can draw a square near the tip of africa (positive coordinates), and then when it loads it's near the top of africa, in the atlantic ocean. I'm definitely doing something wrong....

  • Translate ImageButton from C# to XAML

    - by Bill
    I worked out the C# code to create an ImageButton (below) that has three images (one base-image and two overlays) and three text boxes as the face of the button. I am inheriting from the Button class, which unfortunately includes several components that I didn't realize would surface until after coding and need to remove, namely the bright-blue surrounding border on IsMouseOver, and any visible borders between the buttons, as the buttons will end up in a wrapPanel and the borders need to be seamless. Now that the format has been worked out in C#, I expect that I need to translate to XAML so that I can create a ControlTemplate to get the functionality necessary, however I am not certain as to the process of translating from C# to XAML. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? public class ACover : Button { Image cAImage = null; Image jCImage = null; Image jCImageOverlay = null; TextBlock ATextBlock = null; TextBlock AbTextBlock = null; TextBlock ReleaseDateTextBlock = null; private string _TracksXML = ""; public ACover() { Grid cArtGrid = new Grid(); cArtGrid.Background = new SolidColorBrush(Color.FromRgb(38, 44, 64)); cArtGrid.Margin = new System.Windows.Thickness(5, 10, 5, 10); RowDefinition row1 = new RowDefinition(); row1.Height = new GridLength(225); RowDefinition row2 = new RowDefinition(); row2.Height = new GridLength(0, GridUnitType.Auto); RowDefinition row3 = new RowDefinition(); row3.Height = new GridLength(0, GridUnitType.Auto); RowDefinition row4 = new RowDefinition(); row4.Height = new GridLength(0, GridUnitType.Auto); cArtGrid.RowDefinitions.Add(row1); cArtGrid.RowDefinitions.Add(row2); cArtGrid.RowDefinitions.Add(row3); cArtGrid.RowDefinitions.Add(row4); ColumnDefinition col1 = new ColumnDefinition(); col1.Width = new GridLength(0, GridUnitType.Auto); cArtGrid.ColumnDefinitions.Add(col1); jCImage = new Image(); jCImage.Height = 240; jCImage.Width = 260; jCImage.VerticalAlignment = VerticalAlignment.Top; jCImage.Source = new BitmapImage(new Uri(Properties.Settings.Default.pathToGridImages + "jc.png", UriKind.Absolute)); cArtGrid.Children.Add(jCImage); cArtImage = new Image(); cArtImage.Height = 192; cArtImage.Width = 192; cArtImage.Margin = new System.Windows.Thickness(3, 7, 0, 0); cArtImage.VerticalAlignment = VerticalAlignment.Top; cArtGrid.Children.Add(cArtImage); jCImageOverlay = new Image(); jCImageOverlay.Height = 192; jCImageOverlay.Width = 192; jCImageOverlay.Margin = new System.Windows.Thickness(3, 7, 0, 0); jCImageOverlay.VerticalAlignment = VerticalAlignment.Top; jCImageOverlay.Source = new BitmapImage(new Uri( Properties.Settings.Default.pathToGridImages + "jc-overlay.png", UriKind.Absolute)); coverArtGrid.Children.Add(jCImageOverlay); ATextBlock = new TextBlock(); ATextBlock.Foreground = new SolidColorBrush(Color.FromRgb(173, 176, 198)); ATextBlock.Margin = new Thickness(10, -10, 0, 0); cArtGrid.Children.Add(ATextBlock); AlTextBlock = new TextBlock(); AlTextBlock.Margin = new Thickness(10, 0, 0, 0); AlTextBlock.Foreground = new SolidColorBrush(Color.FromRgb(173, 176, 198)); cArtGrid.Children.Add(AlTextBlock); RDTextBlock = new TextBlock(); RDTextBlock.Margin = new Thickness(10, 0, 0, 0); RDTextBlock.Foreground = new SolidColorBrush(Color.FromRgb(173, 176, 198)); cArtGrid.Children.Add(RDTextBlock); Grid.SetColumn(jCImage, 0); Grid.SetRow(jCImage, 0); Grid.SetColumn(jCImageOverlay, 0); Grid.SetRow(jCImageOverlay, 0); Grid.SetColumn(cArtImage, 0); Grid.SetRow(cArtImage, 0); Grid.SetColumn(ATextBlock, 0); Grid.SetRow(ATextBlock, 1); Grid.SetColumn(AlTextBlock, 0); Grid.SetRow(AlTextBlock, 2); Grid.SetColumn(RDTextBlock, 0); Grid.SetRow(RDTextBlock, 3); this.Content = cArtGrid; } public string A { get { if (ATextBlock != null) return ATextBlock.Text; else return String.Empty; } set { if (ATextBlock != null) ATextBlock.Text = value; } } public string Al { get { if (AlTextBlock != null) return AlTextBlock.Text; else return String.Empty; } set { if (AlTextBlock != null) AlTextBlock.Text = value; } } public string RD { get { if (RDTextBlock != null) return RDTextBlock.Text; else return String.Empty; } set { if (RDTextBlock != null) RDTextBlock.Text = value; } } public ImageSource Image { get { if (cArtImage != null) return cArtImage.Source; else return null; } set { if (cArtImage != null) cArtImage.Source = value; } } public string TracksXML { get { return _TracksXML; } set { _TracksXML = value; } } public double ImageWidth { get { if (cArtImage != null) return cArtImage.Width; else return double.NaN; } set { if (cArtImage != null) cArtImage.Width = value; } } public double ImageHeight { get { if (cArtImage != null) return cArtImage.Height; else return double.NaN; } set { if (cArtImage != null) cArtImage.Height = value; } } }

  • WPF - Make two controls the same size

    - by John Michaels
    Is there any way to make two controls that are in different containers the same size in WPF? For example, suppose you have two textboxes: textbox1 and textbox2. Textbox1 is in a grid and its size can grow and shrink when the user resizes the window. Textbox2 is in another part of the window and I need it to always have the same size as textbox1. Is there any way to do this? Keep in mind SharedSizeGroup will not work because the textboxes are in different containers. Also, I've tried binding textbox2's height property to textbox1 and that doesn't seem to work either. Finally, I tried catching textbox1's SizeChanged event, but its Height property is always NaN for some reason.

  • Trouble with javascript subtraction

    I'm working on a simple subtraction problem, but unfortunately it keeps returning NaN Here is the function function subtraction(a, b) { var regexp = /[$][,]/g; a = a.replace(regexp, ""); b - b.replace(regexp, ""); var _a = parseFloat(a); var _b = parseFloat(b); return _a - _b; } And here is how I'm calling it. txtGoodWill.value = subtraction(txtSellingPrice.value, txtBalanceSheet.value); The numbers that get submitted to the function are ONLY Currency (IE: $2,000 or $20, etc) Now I know that I cannot subtract numbers with a $ or a ,, but I can't for the life of me figure out why they are getting evaluated in the equasion.

    When the following XAML used, the window size is not 5000x5000, but some small window where the button is cropped. <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" > <Button Width="5000" Height="5000">XXX</Button> </Window> From what I can tell, size I did not specify the SizeToContent attribute, the default is "Manual", so it will use *size of a window is determined by other properties, including Width, Height, MaxWidth, MaxHeight, MinWidth, and MinHeight. * From the WPF Windows Overview, it seems those other properties are FrameworkElement::MinHeight/Width, and FrameworkElement::MaxHeight. But since the default for the Mins are 0, the Maxs are Infinity and the Width/Height is Nan....what's going on? Where is WPF getting the window size? Any pointers to the right direction would be appreciated.

  • Different results when applying function to equal values

    - by Johannes Stiehler
    I'm just digging a bit into Haskell and I started by trying to compute the Phi-Coefficient of two words in a text. However, I ran into some very strange behaviour that I cannot explain. After stripping everything down, I ended up with this code to reproduce the problem: let sumTup = (sumTuples°concat) frequencyLists let sumFixTup = (138, 136, 17, 204) putStrLn (show ((138, 136, 17, 204) == sumTup)) putStrLn (show (phi sumTup)) putStrLn (show (phi sumFixTup)) This outputs: True NaN 0.4574206676616167 So although the sumTupand sumFixTup show as equal, they behave differently when passed to phi. The definition of phi is: phi (a, b, c, d) = let dividend = fromIntegral(a * d - b * c) divisor = sqrt(fromIntegral((a + b) * (c + d) * (a + c) * (b + d))) in dividend / divisor
