    I'm looking to buy a mediacenter appliance, but I am a bit lost by all the offers on the market. Here are the features I am looking for : at least 500Go HDD capable of playing HD (1080p) supporting a good range of video and audio codecs support for subtitles including a DVB-T input (coax) and tuner composite video input 5.1 (or 7.1) analog audio output LAN (100M or Gigabit) fileserver (SMB or NFS) remote control possibly digital output (S/PDIF, TOSLINK, or other) no need for integrated DVD player no need for wifi The Ultio Pro looks nice (http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/home-entertainment/d3fe).   • Openssh sftp-server: .filepart support?

    I am trying to setup a SFTP server, running off Ubuntu Server 11.04. I installed openssh-server to provide SSH access. What I am trying to do is make file uploads run with a suffix (.filepart or whatever), which would be removed upon transfer completion. The flow idea is: User uploads cat.jpg The server starts writing cat.jpg.filepart in the destination directory Once the upload completes, the server trashes the previous cat.jpg (if any) and renames cat.jpg.filepart to cat.jpg This is to make sure that incomplete file uploads do not overwrite the existing files. Any idea on how I can do this? Thanks

    Hello, I'm trying to setup a site to site VPN, with a Cisco ASA 5505 at one end. The documentation tells me to use the Ipsec VPN wizard but under the wizards drop down menu there's nothing VPN related there. I have a 'base' license, is that the issue? or am I being stupid? The versions I have are: Cisco Asa 5505 with ASA 8.2(1) and ASDM 6.2(1), the firewall was already setup when I got it (I'm leasing a dedicated server). Thanks for your help

  • Updating the $PATH for running an command through SSH with LDAP user account

    Hi all, I am setting up a Mac OSX 1.6 server to host Git repositories. As such we need to push commits to the server through SSH. The server has only an admin account and uses a user list from a LDAP server. Now, since it is accessing the server through a non interactive shell, git operations are not able to complete since git executables are not in the default path. As the users are network users, they do not have a local home folder. So I cannot use a ~/.bashrc and the like solution. I browsed over several articles here and there but could not get it working in a nice and clean setup. Here are the infos on the methods I gathered so far: I could update the default PATH environment to include the git executables folder. However, I could not manage to do it successfully. Updating /etc/paths didn't change anything and since it's not an interactive shell, /etc/profile and /etc/bashrc are ignored. From the ssh manpage, I read that a BASH_ENV variable can be set to get an optional script to be executed. However I cannot figure how to set it system wide on the server. If it needs to be set up on the client machine, this is not an acceptable solution. If someone has some info on how it is supposed to be done, please, by all means! I can fix this problem by creating a .bashrc with PATH correction in the system root (since all network users would start here as they do not have home). But it just feels wrong. Additionally, if we do create a home folder for an user, then the git command would fail again. I can install a third party application to set up hooks on the login and then run a script creating a home directory with the necessary path corrections. This smells like a backyard tinkering and duct tape solution. I can install a small script on the server and ForceCommand the sshd to this script on login. This script will then look for a command to execute ($SSH_ORIGINAL_COMMAND) and trigger a login shell to run this command, or just trigger a regular login shell for an interactive session.   • Too much free space on FreeNAS - ZFS

    I have a FreeNAS server with 3 x 2 To disks in raidz1. I would expect to have about 4 To of space available. But at the moment I am mostly worried that I misconfigured my system and that I dont have any storage redundancy. How can I make sure I did not do an horrible mistake ...   • What is wrong with those crontabs?

    I want my projectors to Power On before the mall opens, and Power Off when the mall closes. So I created crontab entries (that I placed in /etc/cron.d/mall), but today (Thu Nov 22 18:58:29 EST 2012 is the current date on that server), the power-off.sh script got executed at 17:20 (see syslog excerpt below). Being Thu, Nov. 22, I would have expected the power-off.sh script to be executed at 21:20, per the 4th crontab line below. Why did power-off.sh execute at 17:20? What is wrong with my crontab entries? The client gets an IP (10.8.0.6) from the server OpenVPN client is started as an administrator. But: I cannot ping the other one on either side. 'Gateway' value is empty on client's side (in the adapter's "status" window). Client has got no internet access when the link is up. Ideal configuration: I only want the client to be able to use the server's Internet access and access its resources (MySQL server in particular). I do not need or want the server to access the client's local network. The client needs to be able to access it's local network, although all Internet traffic should be redirected to the VPN link.     I just subscribed to a dedicated server offer, and encounter some bad PHP execution performances. Actually, the time execution may be 2 times bigger than it is on my old mutualized server! I'm definitely not an expert in server management, so I'm wondering what I missed.     I currently have a Ubuntu Server 12.04 running OpenSSH along with Samba and a few other services. At the current time I have public key authentication set up, and I'm wondering if it's possible to set up two factor authentication? I've been looking at Google Authenticator which I currently use with my Gmail account. I've found a PAM module that looks like it will be compatible however it seems that you are forced to use a password and the code generated. I'm wondering if there is a way to use the Google Authenticator Application (or something similar) along with my public key to authenticate into my SSH server?

An example will better explain this: Suppose that I want to start the powershell. Currently what I can type in the search field is power and the first item that appear is the 64bits powershell shortcut. Now suppose that I'd like ps to return powershell as the first item of the search list. Currently, typing ps return all files with the .ps extension, alongs with a control panel options about recording steps but not the powershell executable itself. How can I do that?

  • ShareWebDb_log.ldf is 97GB - How to reduce?

    We run an SBS 2008 server with WSS. On the drive I have set aside for WSS, I'm fast running out of space due to the ShareWebDb_log.ldf file: I've tried doing to do what I've read online - change the recovery mode, backup and truncate - but I can't actually see how I do this via the SQL Server Management Studio tool. Can anyone shed any light? The database for this file does not show in the list, and I cannot expand Management SQL Server Logs (because it's too large?).

  • Powershell script for setting password expiry

    Due to mistakes by the helpdesk staff, I found that over a 100 user accounts in my company AD have been set so that their passwords never expire. To avoid the situation in which all these users suddenly find themselves unable to log in, I want to run a script to set the password expiry to a specified date. I'm using Quest AD cmdlets, but I've only used powershell for simple scripts to get lists of users. The attribute I'm trying to modify is 'PasswordStatus' and I want to set those with this attribute set as "password never expires' to a specific date. Not much of a scripting guy, so any help in this would be most welcome.

    I'm trying to install a second version of PHP, to run alongside the current version of php. I've compiled the latest php source from github (5.5-DEV), and I'm trying to run it as CGI.   • How to sync a folder on a remote computer to a server on a domain

    We have a small remote office that often share data with us. I learned that the data is shared as a email attachment, but that obviously leads to versioning hell and overriding. I am looking for a way for then to synchronize a folder directly on our main office domain controller. I personally use LiveMesh, but I would like a tool that is synchronized to our server directly without a 3rd party hosting the data, since we already have an online backup service taking care of the offsite backup. What enterprise class tool would let us synchronize a folder from a remote computer that is out of our domain, into our the file server of our domain? The synchronization has to be two-way, e.g.: Someone from the remote office will create an invoice. Someone from our office will review it and make modification to it. The remote office need to see the change. Our server is on Windows 2003.
