  • C++ compiler structures such as Virtual method Table etc

    I am aware of the C++ Virtual Table which allows dynamic dispatch for doing things at runtime (although if I am honest I am not completely sure of the full list of things it achieves). I am wondering what other "low level" aspects of C++ are there, which one doesnt usually come across when learning the C++ language? Things like: -How is multithreading and locking on objects performed? -Overloading/overwriting functions -Generics Are there other "structures", similar to the vtable, which assist with these types of things on a lower level? (and if anyone can help with what the VTable actually does it would be most appreciated!)

  • If you favor "T *var", do you ever write "T*"?

    Thinking about where we place our asterisks; how do those that prefer to keep the "pointerness" away from the type and with the identifier (int *i) write code when the identifier is missing? void f(int*); // 1 void f(int *); // 2 The former seems much more common, no matter what your preference when with the identifier. Is this a special case? What makes it an exception? However, the first still isn't universal, because I have seen the latter style. Besides consistency along the lines of "there's always a space with the identifier, so we have one without", are there any other reasons to prefer it? What about casts or array and function types? How would you re-write these: (void*)var /*or*/ (void *)var int[3] /*or*/ int [3] // more relevant in C++ than C: Example<int[3]> void(int) /*or*/ void (int) // more relevant in C++ than C: std::function<void(int)> The latter two would rarely, if ever, be used in C, but are seen with C++ templates.

    I have a question about Software Architecture, anyone can help me or give me some hints currently, I have a J2EE project which deploys in a server, I should a Java Standard project(J2SE) should run 24 hours x 7 days to monitor something it could not run separately, because the Java Project shared the some same classes such as Java Bean classes with the J2EE project maybe my design is not correct, can anyone suggest me what should I do? Using SOA? is this correct? my current solution is run this java project using a bash, but I dont think it is then best idea. I list my class packages com.company.alteck com.company.altronics com.company.gamming com.company.jaycar com.company.jup com.company.rpg com.company.sansai com.company.wiretech com.company.yatsal com.ebay.api com.ebay.bean com.ebay.credential com.ozsstock.finals com.ozstock.adapter com.ozstock.aspectj com.ozstock.model com.ozstock.persistence com.ozstock.service com.ozstock.suppliers my structure likes this, all the packages contains "company" should run separately, but depends on the model bean class. can anyone give me some hints to redesign?

  • Need private personal access to ~three PHP pages

    I would like secure access to the text output by three PHP scripts (the text output is JavaScript and html) . The security level is much less then financial data but important none-the-less. I have considered purchasing AND studying https and SSL certificates. Hostgator charges an extra $2/month for a private ip plus $50+ anually for a certificate. This is more then I want to spend for this project (time + money). Is there a simpler solution that is: less expensive easier to implement. I'm open to different approaches.

  • Persisting details in Master Detail relation EF4 POCO

    Scenario: Entity Framework 4 , POCO templates and Master Detail relation. Lets say I have a master type like this: //partial implementation of master entity partial class Master { public void AddDetail(x,y,z) { var detail = new Detail() { X = x, Y = y, Z = z, }; //add the detail to the master this.Details.Add(detail); } } If I then add a master instance to my context and commit, the details will not be saved: var masterObject = new Master(); masterObject.AddDetail(1,2,3); myContext.MasterSet.AddObject(masterObject); Is there any way to make the details to be persisted by reachabillity when using POCO templates? Or any other way? the Details collection in the Master entity is a FixUpCollection, so it ought to track the changes IMO. So, any ideas how to make this work W/O killing the POCO'ness too much?

ControlFlowModifier as e -> match e with | Break(scope) -> e :> obj //Break is a DU element of ControlFlowModifier | _ -> next() //other members of CFM should call next() | _ -> next() | false -> null cond.EvalBool returns a boolean result where false should return null and true should either run the entire block again (its wrapped in a func called next) or if the special value of break is found, then the loop should exit and return the break value. Is there any way to compress that block of code to something smaller?

  • Immutable Dictionary overhead?

    When using immutable dictionaries in F# , how much overhead is there when adding / removing entries? Will it treat entire buckets as immutable and clone those and only recreate the bucket whos item has changed? Even if that is the case, it seems like there is alot of copying that needs to be done in order to create the new dictionary(?)

  • Implementing "Generator" support in a custom language

    I've got a bit of fettish for language design and I'm currently playing around with my own hobby language. (http://rogeralsing.com/2010/04/14/playing-with-plastic/) One thing that really makes my mind bleed is "generators" and the "yield" keyword. I know C# uses AST transformation to transform enumerator methods into statemachines. But how does it work in other languages? Is there any way to get generator support in a language w/o AST transformation? e.g. Does languages like Python or Ruby resort to AST transformations to solve this to? (The question is how generators are implemented under the hood in different languages, not how to write a generator in one of them)

  • Code hot swapping in Erlang

    I recently saw a video about Erlang on InfoQ, In that video one of the creators presented how to replace the behavior of a message loop. He was simply sending a message containing a lambda of the new version of the message loop code, which then was invoked instead of calling the old loop again. Is that code hot swapping in Erlang reffers to? Or is that some other more native feature?

    Just for the heck of it I'm trying to emulate how JRuby generators work using threads in C#. Also, I'm fully aware that C# haas built in support for yield return, I'm just toying around a bit. I guess it's some sort of poor mans coroutines by keeping multiple callstacks alive using threads.   • Debugging F# code and functional style

    I'm new to funcctional programming and have some questions regarding coding style and debugging. I'm under the impression that one should avoid storing results from funcction calls in a temp variable and then return that variable e.g. let someFunc foo = let result = match foo with | x -> ... | y -> ... result And instead do it like this (I might be way off?): let someFunc foo = match foo with | x -> ... | y -> ... Which works fine from a functionallity perspective, but it makes it way harder to debug. I have no way to examine the result if the right hand side of - does some funky stuff. So how should I deal with this kind of scenarios?

  • Entity Framework 4 missing features?

    I'm well aware that similair topics have been brought up before e.g. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1639043/entity-framework-4-vs-nhibernate But instead of arguments like: NHibernate have been around longer and is more mature EF4 is drag n drop and not enterprisy EF4 and LinqToSql are ... I would like to see a more detailed list of features that you consider missing from EF4. Personally, I think the lack of enum support is the biggest drawback of EF4.

  • Erlang message loops

    How does message loops in erlang work, are they sync when it comes to processing messages? As far as I understand, the loop will start by "receive"ing a message and then perform something and hit another iteration of the loop. So that has to be sync? right? If multiple clients send messages to the same message loop, then all those messages are queued and performed one after another, or? To process multiple messages in parallell, you would have to spawn multiple message loops in different processes, right? Or did I misunderstand all of it?

  • Oracle SOA Suite customer panel: Successful Application Integration & SOA Projects

    At the recent SOA Suite customer panel, Roger Brown from UNS Energy, Fabio Ravagni from Cencosud and Paras Jain from Cisco discussed their recent SOA Suite implementations, business drivers and challenges, architecture and lessons learned. Roger started by describing how UNS redesigned their internet portal to improve their customer experience and reduce manual steps in their business processes. Through the use of Oracle Service Bus, Oracle BPEL Process Manager and Oracle Business Activity Monitoring, they provided more self-service functionality, automated their business processes and increased the use of their web site by 12.98% for number of visits and 33.58% for average visit duration. The screenshot below shows the UNS architecture: > Next Fabio described the challenges Cencosud faced through continuous expansion of their business, different standards and levels of expertise and large volumes of information. By introducing Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle Data Integrator and Oracle Enterprise Repository, and with the help of Oracle Consulting, they significantly simplified their integration model, reduced their maintenance effort and increased their integration governance. The picture below shows the implemented solution with so far more than 400 services in production and more than 20 ongoing projects, which will make use of the new integration platform. > Last, but not least, Paras discussed the challenges the Webex division of Cisco faced with a highly manual service fulfillment process, multiple data sources and the resulting large room for errror and delay in customer time-to-service. Through a redesign of their order fulfillment process and the introduction of Oracle SOA Suite (see below), they significantly improved their SLAs, eliminated duplicate orders, provided higher visibility into the order process and aligned business and IT.     I'm building a basic function, which builds out Mysql WHERE clauses based on how many are in the array. $array = array('id' => '3', 'name' => 'roger'); $sql = "SELECT * FROM table WHERE "; foreach ($array as $k => $v) { $sql .= $k . ' = ' . $v . ' AND '; } which will output SELECT * FROM table WHERE id = 3 AND name = roger AND However obviously I don't want that last AND, how do I go about removing it from the string? Thanks

My question is on the server side do I need to match BOTH etag and If-Modified-Since before I send 304. Or Should I just look at etag and send 304 if etag is a match. In this case I am ignoring If-Modified-Since .
