  • Remote Desktop Viewer Set-up for 12.10

    - by Sir Linuxalot
How do you set up the Remote Desktop in 12.10? I've scanned the available answers here and didn't find anything that answers the question considering the 12.10 interface. Specifically, advice says to check the "Allow Others to Control Your Desktop" and an IP will pop up (10.04 I believe). But when checking this in Quezal no IP shows. So how would I connect to my desktop from somewhere other than the local network, like say a coffee house? I also see this Remmina client program but have no idea if I need to use that as well. Can someone give me a step-by-step or point me to one that I haven't found yet? Thanks.

  • Remote Desktop advice

    - by spoon16
Coming from Windows, so that is what my expectations are based on. I have a Ubuntu desktop edition instance running as a virtual machine on a server. I would like to use it as my primary open source dev environment but the VNC tools I have used don't seem to be as rich as "Remote Desktop Connection" in Windows. The two things that are missing for me: connecting/logging into a non-console user sessions dynamically resizing the graphical resolution based on the size of the remote desktop window device sharing (USB devices plugged into client shared with remote) Is there an appropriate client that I can run on Windows to connect to my ubuntu dev instance that provides these capabilities?

  • Starting With Desktop Apps [closed]

    - by perl.j
I've been programming for a while now. It is a great hobby for me! Actually, It's my only hobby! But I haven't really programmed in a specific area i.e. desktop, web, etc.. After a long while of research, I've decided to jump into making Desktop Applications. But how should I go about doing this? Are there languages that are used to do this, or is it possible to use Python, Perl, C, etc. to make vivid, "amazing-quality", "highly functional" Desktop Apps? Also, what are some good resources to begin learning this? Thanks!

  • Windows Remote Desktop: "configuring remote session" closes without error

    - by icelava
I have a desktop/laptop pair at home operating x64 Windows 7 (the desktop was upgraded from Windows Vista, works just fine). I remote desktop to them on a daily basis when outside. In recent weeks, I would occasionally fail to connect to my desktop. It can connect and authenticate fine, but the "configuring remote session" dialog would simply close and not show me the desktop window or any error message. There is no error event log relating to this on the desktop computer. Some suggestions call for disabling remote audio, which mine already is, but trying different audio modes did not yield any different result. I am not too sure if this is related to video card drivers (they do get auto-updated), since remote desktop video is supposed to steer via a virtual device driver? Nonetheless the desktop operates three monitors via an ATI Radeon HD5770 (1 Displayport, 2 DVI). I do not see a real problem with that since I can mostly connect and operate it remotely. I try to "remote tunnel" via my home laptop but obviously won't work either as the problem lies in the desktop. What other conditions can cause remote desktop to break without error? UPDATE I came home and still couldn't connect to the desktop until I restarted the entire system.

  • Sync Your Windows Computer with Your Ubuntu One Account [Desktop Client]

    - by Asian Angel
Do you have a Windows computer that needs to be synced with the Ubuntu systems connected to your Ubuntu One account? Not a problem. Just grab a copy of the Ubuntu One Desktop Client and in just a few minutes your Windows system will be feeling the Ubuntu love. Once you get the desktop client installed you will see a new System Tray Icon waiting for you. Access the Context Menu and select Add this computer to start the syncing process. Enter your account details into the login window that appears and click Connect to Ubuntu One. Go back to the System Tray Icon, access the Context Menu, and select Synchronize Now. You can monitor the progress as small desktop notification messages keep you updated during the synchronizing process. The newly synchronized files will be placed in an Ubuntu One Folder under Documents/My Documents. Here is a quick peek at the Preferences Window. The only odd thing (bug) that we noticed with the whole setup was “Disconnected” being displayed even though our system was freshly synchronized and logged in. Note: Works on Windows XP (with SP3 & Windows Installer 4.5), Vista, and Windows 7. You will need to have the .NET 4 Framework installed (links for both installer types provided below). Need to access your Ubuntu One account directly through your browser? Then see our article on Accessing and Managing Your Ubuntu One Account in Chrome and Iron. • Google Desktop shortcut Ctrl + Ctrl weird behavior

    - by Leonid
Just noticed a weird behavior of Google Desktop shortcut Ctrl + Ctrl. This shortcut is supposed to bring Google Desktop search bar to the front. If Ctrl + Ctrl is pressed the search bar appears, but once you release one of the Ctrl keys it will disappear. If you hold one Ctrl key, and press the other twice the search bar will toggle it's state. Do you have any idea how this can be fixed and what can be causing this behaviour?

  • Different settings for secure & non-secure versions of Django site using WSGI

    - by Jordan Reiter
I have a Django website where some of the URLs need to be served over HTTPS and some over a normal connection. It's running on Apache and using WSGI. Here's the config: <VirtualHost example.org:80> ServerName example.org DocumentRoot /var/www/html/mysite WSGIDaemonProcess mysite WSGIProcessGroup mysite WSGIScriptAlias / /path/to/mysite/conferencemanager.wsgi </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:443> ServerName example.org DocumentRoot /var/www/html/mysite WSGIProcessGroup mysite SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile /etc/httpd/certs/aace.org.crt SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/httpd/certs/aace.org.key SSLCertificateChainFile /etc/httpd/certs/gd_bundle.crt WSGIScriptAlias / /path/to/mysite/conferencemanager_secure.wsgi </VirtualHost> When I restart the server, the first site that gets called -- https or http -- appears to select which WSGI script alias gets used. I just need a few settings to be different for the secure server, which is why I'm using a different WSGI script. Alternatively, it there's a way to change settings in the settings.py file based on whether the connection is secure or not, that would also work. Thanks
