  • 3D Collision help

    - by Taylor
I'm having difficulties with my project. I'm quite new in XNA. Anyway, I'm trying to make 3D game and I'm already stuck on one basic thing. I have terrain made from a heightmap, and an avatar model. I want to set up some collisions for game so the player won't go through the ground. But I just don't know how to detect collisions for so complex an object. I could just make a simple box collision for my avatar, but what about the ground? I already implemented the JigLibX physics engine in my project and I know that I can make a collision map with heightmap, but I can't find any tutorials or help with this. So how can I set proper collision for complex objects? How can I detect heightmap collisions in JigLibX? Just some links to tutorials would be enough. Thanks in advance!

  • Why won't my Broadcom BCM4312 LP-PHY work with the STA driver?

    - by Jackson Taylor
I tried the steps here for a 4312: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx Both of these: sudo modprobe -r b43 ssb wl sudo modprobe wl return: FATAL: Module wl not found. FATAL: Error running install command for wl (this one is only for the second one actually) I tried the broadcom-sta, didn't work. What's confusing is down below in the next steps for STA with internet access it says to use the bcmwl one. So I install that and it succeeds but with some errors: sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done The following package was automatically installed and is no longer required: module-assistant Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove it. The following NEW packages will be installed: bcmwl-kernel-source 0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. Need to get 0 B/1,181 kB of archives. After this operation, 3,609 kB of additional disk space will be used. Selecting previously unselected package bcmwl-kernel-source. FATAL: Error running install command for wl Then I do the modprobe wl commands listed above and it gives the above listed errors. It didn't work with the broadcom-sta driver either. I installed the b43 ones but nothing happened, and I don't know why so those are still installed. firmware-b43legacy-installer, b43-fwcutter and firmware-b43-lpphy-installer (yes it is a LP-PHY) are currently installed. If I go into System Settings Software Sources Additional Drivers it says "Using Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA wireless driver source from bcmwl-kernel-source (proprietary) But bcmwl-kernel-source isn't installed. I could try again but I remember rebooting and it still said this. What's funny is it found wireless networks during the Ubuntu setup/installation, I don't remember if I got it to connect or not though. I think it kept asking for a password when I put it in (yes it was right I showed password and looked at it) so I just ignored it. But right now the Enable Wireless option in the top right is just gone, it's just Enable Networking and I'm on ethernet on this HP Pavilion dv4-1435dx right here. If I run rfkill list it shows: 0: hp-wifi: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no It was hard blocked at the beginning but unblocking it makes no change. Also it's a touch sensitive button, and it appears to be always orange no matter if it's enabled or not because when I touch it the hard blocked changes between yes and no in rfkill list. I think it was blue for a minute at one point. What is going on?!?! Help me! Lol, thanks for any and all of your time guys. Oh yeah this is Ubuntu 12.10 fresh install.

This is great, however, all your non-metro applications and PC settings are removed. If you are like me and have a lot of non-metro apps this can be very annoying, but you can fix this by creating a refresh image that already has your apps installed and your settings tweaked. 6 Start Menu Replacements for Windows 8 What Is the Purpose of the “Do Not Cover This Hole” Hole on Hard Drives? • How to Use a PIN Instead of a Password in Windows 8

    - by Taylor Gibb
Entering your full password on a touch screen device can really become a pain in the neck, luckily for us we can link a short 4 digit PIN to our user account and log in with that instead. Note: PIN codes are nowhere near as safe as using an alphanumeric password, however, they do still have a purpose when you don’t want to enter your 15 character password on a touch screen device. Creating a PIN Press the Win + I keyboard combination to bring up the Settings Charm, then click on the Change PC settings link. This will open up the Modern UI PC Settings app, where you can click on the Users section. On the right hand side you will see a Create a PIN button, click on it. Now you will need to verify that you are the owner of this user account by entering your password. Then you can choose a PIN, remember that it can only contain digits. Now when you get to the login screen you will have the option to use a PIN. How To Boot Your Android Phone or Tablet Into Safe Mode HTG Explains: Does Your Android Phone Need an Antivirus? • Is there a limit of emails/pictures per Gravatar account?

    - by Steve Taylor
I'm building a site to connect patients to doctors. Each doctor will have a profile picture. I'm quite happy to manually maintain the profile pictures as there won't be that many doctors nor will they have a need to change their picture very often, if at all. I thought of using Gravatar to host all these profile pictures. The idea is to create a single Gravatar account then keep adding email addresses to it in the form [email protected] and associating each one with a new image. Does anyone know, however, if I will run into any per-account limit? If so, it wouldn't be feasible because I would end up with a bunch of Gravatar accounts instead of just the one.

  • Offset Forward vector of object based on Rotation

    - by Taylor
I'm using the Bullet 3D physics engine in a iOS application running openGL ES 1.1 Currently I'm accepting info from the gyroscope to allow the user to "look around" a 3d world that follows a bouncing ball (note: it only takes in the yaw to look around 360 degrees). Im also accepting information from the accelerometer based on the tilt to push the ball. As of right now, to move forward, the user tilts the devise forward (using the accelerometer); to move to the right, the user tilts the devise to the right and so on. The forward vector is currently along it's local Z-axis. The problem is that I want to change the ball bounce based on where the user has changed the view. If I change the view, the ball bounces in the fixed direction. I want to change the forward facing direction so that when a user changes the view (say to the look at the right of the world, the user rotates the device), tilting the devise forward will result in a forward force in that direction. Basically, I want the forward vector to take the rotation into consideration. Sorry if I didn't explain the issue well enough, its kind of confusing to write down.

  • HTG Explains: How Internet Explorer Saves Your Passwords and How to Manage Them

    - by Taylor Gibb
Privacy is very important when it comes to the digital world, but do you know exactly how your browser saves your passwords ? Read on to find out what goes on behind the scenes. When it comes to web applications, there are many different types of authentication. One of the types is called basic authentication, which is when you navigate to website and a dialog box opens to ask for a username and password. This also happens to be the authentication mechanism defined in the RFC for HTTP. You can see in the screen shot above that there is a check box that you can use to remember your credentials, but what does that do ? You might also ask yourself what happens if you are not using Basic authentication. There is another type of authentication called Form authentication, this is when the authentication is built right into the web application, like the How-To Geek website. This allows the Developer to control the look and feel of the form that we use to log in.
