• Creating a framework for ASP.NET web forms similar to Flex states.

  I really enjoy the flex states framework. You define a few states for your control, and then can set child controls to only appear in certain states. Check out this code: <s:states> <s:State name="signin"/> <s:State name="register"/> </s:states> <mx:FormItem label="Last name:" includeIn="register" id="lastNameItem" alpha="0.0"> <s:TextInput id="lastName" width="220"/> </mx:FormItem> Now the last name form will only appear in the register screen. This would be really useful I think in .NET where you use the page for views like update / insert. I was considering extending the Page element to have a states property using extension methods, and adding the include in to controls. This way I could auto-hide controls based on the current view at render time. What is even cooler in Flex, is that you can use different handlers / properties based on the current state. <s:Button label="Sign in" label.register="Register" id="loginButton" enabled="true" click.signin="signin()" click.register="register()"/> I'm sure there's a way I could implement something similar to this as well. Do you think this is a good idea? Or does it just add a level of abstraction to framework that already has a poor separation of concerns?

• Flex: Linebreak problem with spark.components.TextArea inside a MXDataGridItemRenderer

  Hi, I have a DataGrid that has a MXDataGridItemRenderer applied as an itemEditor to one of the columns. The editor includes a spark.components.TextArea control. By default, any text item editor of a datagrid closes itself when [enter] key is pressed..   I would like to create dynamic labels for a forms.ModelChoiceField and I'm wondering how to do that. However the labels for the radio buttons created by the ModelChoiceField need to be created dynamically. First I thought I could simply override ModelChoiceField as described in the Django documentation. But that creates static labels. It allows you to define any label but once the choice is made, that choice is fixed. • Problem creating a custom input element using FluentHtml (MVCContrib)

  Hi there, I just recently started dabbling in ASP.NET MVC 1.0 and came across the wonderful MVCContrib. I had originally gone down the path of creating some extended html helpers, but after finding FluentHTML decided to try my hand at creating a custom input element. Basically I am wanting to ultimately create several custom input elements to make it easier for some other devs on the project I'm working on to add their input fields to the page and have all of my preferred markup to render for them. So, in short, I'd like to wrap certain input elements with additional markup.. A TextBox would be wrapped in an <li /> for example. I've created my custom input elements following Tim Scott's answer in another question on here: DRY in the MVC View. So, to further elaborate, I've created my class, "TextBoxListItem": public class TextBoxListItem : TextInput<TextBox> { public TextBoxListItem (string name) : base(HtmlInputType.Text, name) { } public TextBoxListItem (string name, MemberExpression forMember, IEnumerable<IBehaviorMarker> behaviors) : base(HtmlInputType.Text, name, forMember, behaviors) { } public override string ToString() { var liBuilder = new TagBuilder(HtmlTag.ListItem); liBuilder.InnerHtml = ToString(); return liBuilder.ToString(TagRenderMode.SelfClosing); } } I've also added it to my ViewModelContainerExtensions class: public static TextBox TextBoxListItem<T>(this IViewModelContainer<T> view, Expression<Func<T, object>> expression) where T : class { return new TextBoxListItem(expression.GetNameFor(view), expression.GetMemberExpression(), view.Behaviors) .Value(expression.GetValueFrom(view.ViewModel)); } And lastly, I've added it to ViewDataContainerExtensions as well: public static TextBox TextBoxListItem(this IViewDataContainer view, string name) { return new TextBox(name).Value(view.ViewData.Eval(name)); } I'm calling it in my view like so: <%= this.TextBoxListItem("username").Label("Username:") %> Anyway, I'm not getting anything other than the standard FluentHTML TextBox, not wrapped in <li></li> elements. • DateChooser is behaving strangely

  I'm writing a Flex application and I came across what I think is a weird problem. I want to create a text box and a DateChooser as the datefield didn't do what I wanted and it's Halo so I can't skin it easily. I want the DateChooser to show when I click on the text input. Here is an except from my code: <s:TextInput id="wholeDate" width="100" mouseOver="stopChangeToNormal();" paddingRight="10" click="date1.visible = true" focusOut="date1.visible = false"/> <s:Button label="Go" width="70" /> </s:Panel> <mx:DateChooser id="date1" visible = "false" change="useDate(event);" mouseOver="changeToNormalState = false;" y="{wholeDate.y + buttonsGroup.y + 20}" x="{wholeDate.x + buttonsGroup.x - 175 }" /> The weird thing is that it works as I wanted if I make it visible = "true" to start but if I have it visible="false" it doesn't work! It shows but the date I select doesn't show in the box as it does if I have it as visible="true", but I don't want it to be visible initially. Any ideas?

• Running a Java program with a .dll from Adobe AIR's native process

  I would like to be able to operate a scanner from my AIR application. Since there's no support for this natively, I'm trying to use the NativeProcess class to start a jar file that can run the scanner. The Java code is using the JTwain library to operate the scanner. The Java application runs fine by itself, and the AIR application can start and communicate with the Java application. The problem seems to be that any time I attempt to use a function from JTwain (which relies on the JTwain.dll), the application dies IF AIR STARTED IT. I'm not sure if there's some limit about referencing dll files from the native process or what. • Django, want to upload eather image (ImageField) or file (FileField)

  I have a form in my html page, that prompts user to upload File or Image to the server. I want to be able to upload ether file or image. Let's say if user choose file, image should be null, and vice verso. Right now I can only upload both of them, without error. • Difficulty adding widgets to django form.

  I have a django app that tracks activities that can benefit a classroom. Using the django examples, I was able to build a form to enter this data. But when I try to add widgets to that form, things get tricky. What I want is a calendar widget that lets the user enter the 'activity_date' field using a widget. If I use Admin interface. The AdminDateWidget works fine. however. This particular user isn't allowed access to the admin interface so I need a different way to present this widget. Also I couldn't figure out how to make the bring the admin widget over into non-admin pages. So I tried a custom widget. This is the first custom widget I've built, so I'm not quite sure what is supposed to be going on here. Any Expert Advice? • Binding problem in C# wpf

  I have a problem whit binding in wpf i have a textbox where i can do some input, then i try to bind the textinput to a custom usercontrol. This work for the usercontrol within RowDetailsTemplate but not in the CellTemplate. • Replace Infinite loop in Flex

  Hello, I want to access a webservice:getMonitorData() , on creationcomplete and returns an array, in an infinite loop so that the getIndex0.text is updated each time. Flex is not able to handle an infinite loop and gives a timeout error 1502. If I run the for loop until i<2000 or so it works fine. How can replace the loop so that my webservice is accessed continiously and the result is shown in getIndex0.text. • Disable Dojo validation on certain fields

  I would like to disable client side validation on certain fields in my user form. Currently I have two sets of fields that are displayed depending on the value of a previous drop down list. i.e. if the drop down list is set to value "A" 1 new field appears in the form. If the drop down list is set to value "B" 3 new fields appear in the form (mutually exclusive from the new form field when "A" is selected). Currently my Dojo client side validation fails because the fields that are not shown to the user (and thus no data can be inserted into those fields) fails to validate. Currently I determined that I can set the "validate" attribute to return true like so: <input type="text" id="companycity" name="companycity" class="textinput" value="<?php echo set_value('companycity'); ?>" style="<?php if(isset($errorData['companycity'])){echo $errorData['companycity'];} ?>" dojotype="dijit.form.ValidationTextBox" required="true" trim="true" validate='return true'" regexp="([a-zA-Z]{1,25})" invalidMessage="Invalid value. Must be between 1 and 25 alphabetic characters long."> This fixes my issue for hidden fields. However this now means that no validation is performed when this field becomes visible to the user (i.e. the validate attribute is still set to return true). I have tried removing the validate property when a field is displayed to the user like so: dijit.byId('companycode').attr('validate',''); This just set the attribute to nothing. This however gives errors in firebug saying validate method not found, so I take that to mean I did not remove this attribute correctly or removing this attribute is not the appropriate way to do this. I have also looked at overriding the validator method here but this doesnt seem like what I want either. I do not want to have to rewrite all the validation methods in place of dojo's. I just want dojo not to validate if the field is not visible to the user. Thanks for any advice or help.

In order to do this I need to find the column chart on the stage using actionscript. So in short, at run time I want to, with as little code as possible, identify the column chart in the active tab so I can redraw it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  Hi, I've just started learning flex using OReilly "Programming Flex 3.0". After completing three chapters and starting fourth (ActionScript), and not having enough patience to wait till completing chapter 22 I started to practice :) One bit that I have most worries about right now is the the dual coding mode (MXML vs ActionScript) Please have a look at my code below (it compiles via mxmlc design.mxml, second file 'code.as' should be in same directory) and advise if the separation I used between visual design and code is appropriate. Also - if some smart guy could show me how to recode same example with *.as being a class file [package?] it would be highly appreciated.   Hi EveryOne Beginner in Flex ...Even worse with item renderers... Have managed to add a Combobox to a datagrid using a itemEditor... I want to change the options in a combo box depending on the value selected by the user on a previous combo.. In the combo box i want to display a certain value (Model Name ) but for quering a table i'll pass the corresponding code of the model :(... sounds simple enough ..unfortunately not able to implement it I have found this problem on this site but the solution seems an overkill for my "small" problem..was hoping if anyone could guide me towards a more simpler solution... • When i close window cookies are destroying in flex

  Hi, I am using external interface to store cookies in client side of application. Like I have created a cookie in html and i am using those methods in flex using External Interface.
