• What's wrong with my wireless?

  I am having issues with my wireless connection. My connection is constantly disconnecting, then attempting to reconnect, reconnecting momentarily, then disconnecting etc. on times scales that range from seconds to minutes. In the meantime, needless to say I'm having significant packet loss. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 64bit, updated and upgraded to today. • YUV Textures and Shaders

  I've always used RGB textures. Now comes up the need of use of YUV textures (a set of three texture, specifying 1 luminance and 2 chrominance channels). Of course the YUV texture could be converted on CPU, getting the RGB texture usable as usual... but I need to get RGB pixel directly on GPU, to avoid unnecessary processor load... The problem became strange, since I require to specifyin the shader source, because a single texture, the following items: Three samplers uniforms, one for each channel Two integer uniforms, for specifying the chrominance channels sampling a mat3 uniform, for specific YUV to RGB conversion matrix. This should be done for each YUV texture... Is it possible to "compress" required uniforms, and getting RGB values quite easily? Actually i think this could aid: Texture sizes, including mipmaps, could be queried. With this, its possible to save the two integer uniforms, since the uniform values are derived the ratio between texture extents The mat3 uniforms could be collected as globals, and with preprocessor could be selected. But what design should I use for specify three (related) textures? Is it possible to use textures levels for accessing multiple textures? Texture arrays could be usable? And what about using rectangle textures, which doesn't supports mipmaps? Maybe a shader abstraction (struct definition and related function) could aid? Thank you.

• How to find the latest row for each group of data

  Hi All, I have a tricky problem that I'm trying to find the most effective method to solve. Here's a simplified version of my View structure. Table: Audits AuditID | PublicationID | AuditEndDate | AuditStartDate 1 | 3 | 13/05/2010 | 01/01/2010 2 | 1 | 31/12/2009 | 01/10/2009 3 | 3 | 31/03/2010 | 01/01/2010 4 | 3 | 31/12/2009 | 01/10/2009 5 | 2 | 31/03/2010 | 01/01/2010 6 | 2 | 31/12/2009 | 01/10/2009 7 | 1 | 30/09/2009 | 01/01/2009 There's 3 query's that I need from this. I need to one to get all the data. The next to get only the history data (that is, everything but exclude the latest data item by AuditEndDate) and then the last query is to obtain the latest data item (by AuditEndDate). There's an added layer of complexity that I have a date restriction (This is on a per user/group basis) where certain user groups can only see between certain dates. I am having trouble getting the form to validate because I cant figure out how to get the id of two of the models used in the form into the form to validate it. On my local machine, I was able to Add... the .pst file to my fresh Outlook 2007 and access the emails. However, adding an .ost file does not seem to be an options in the Accounts Settings dialog. • How do you get an add-on to run in Firefox 4?

  I have an add-on called Flash-Aid in Firefox 4 on my Ubuntu build, but ever since Mozilla came up with their new UI, I haven't been able to figure out how to get add-ons to actually run within Firefox. Double clicking them just opens up a detail page about them and there are no options to run them. With most add-ons, this isn't a problem since they usually don't need to be explicitly run, but this one does. Can someone tell me how to do this?

  I have google Chrome 8.0.552.237 on Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit and flash is not working, I have tried a variety of methods to install flash, including Firefox flash-aid and the flash-installer package and nothing is working for me. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled chrome to no avail. I get "missing plugin" message where flash plugin should be in a website. What am I missing? UPDATE I have a variety of plugins returned by jgbelacqua's command: /usr/lib/chromium-browser/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/iceape/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/lib/midbrowser/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/lib/xulrunner/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/lib/xulrunner-addons/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/share/ubufox/plugins/libflashplayer.so /var/cache/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so I'm not sure which is necessary and which not. • Is finding graph minors without single node pinch points possible?

  Is it possible to robustly find all the graph minors within an arbitrary node graph where the pinch points are generally not single nodes? I have read some other posts on here about how to break up your graph into a Hamiltonian cycle and then from that find the graph minors but it seems to be such an algorithm would require that each "room" had "doorways" consisting of single nodes. To explain a bit more a visual aid is necessary. Lets say the nodes below are an example of the typical node graph. What I am looking for is a way to automatically find the different colored regions of the graph (or graph minors)

  I have a following problem: I have Ubuntu 12.04 installed on my Athlon 1800+ + 1 GB RAM + Nvidia Geforce4 MMX 440 (pretty old configuration) and everything works just fine except Flash Player in my Web browser (tried Firefox and Chromium). Instead of movie/animation, I get blank space. I updated my system via update manager, checked the plugins (everything OK), installed and updated flash player one more time, installed Ubuntu restricted extras, tried Firefox's Flash Aid, even tried Youtube Html 5 (still the same result)... Please, help me! I enjoy working with Linux and Ubuntu is the first that works for me well (after Open Suse and Fedora) but I have no idea what is wrong now...

• Firefox 11: Adobe Flash not being recognized on certain websites

  I have Adobe Flash Plugin v11.2r202 in Firefox 11.0, on Kubuntu 11.10 64-bit. Flash works flawless on Youtube. However, certain websites claim that I need a more recent version of Flash Player. For example, on this website: http://htwins.net/scale2/ It says "You need a more recent version of Adobe Flash Player." Whereas in Chromium or Opera, it works. What is the problem there?

• PHP developer wanting to learn python

  I'm pretty familiar at this point with PHP (Javascript, too), up to the point of OOP in PHP, and am looking to branch out my knowledge. I'm looking at Python next, but a lot of it is a bit alien to me as a PHP developer. I'm less concerned about learning the language itself. I'm positive there's plenty of good resources, documentation and libraries to help me get the code down. I'm less sure about the technical aspects of how to set up a dev environment, unit testing and other more mundane details that are very important, aid in rapid development, but aren't as widely covered. Are there any good resources out there for this?

• Support / Maintenance documentation for development team

  Hi, I'm working in the Development dept (around 40 developers) for a large E-Commerce company. We've grown quickly but have not evolved very well in the field of documenting our work. We work with an Agile / Scrum-like methodology with our development and testing but documentation seems to be neglected. We need to be able to make documentation that would aid a developer who hasnt worked on our project before or was new to the company. We also have to create more high level information for our support department to explain any extra config settings and fixes of known issues that may arise, if any. Currently we put this in a badly put together wiki, based on an old Sharepoint / TFS site. Can anyone suggest some ideal links or advice on improving the documentation standard? What works in other companies? Has anyone got avice on developing documentation as part of an agile process? Many thanks, ben

• Correct Rotation and Translation with a 4x4 matrix

  I am using a 4x4 matrix to transform verts in a shader. I multiply an identity matrix by a rotation matrix by a translation matrix. I am trying to first rotate the verts and then translate them, however in my result, it appears that the verts are being transformed and then rotated. My matrix looks something like this: m00 m01 m02 tx m10 m11 m12 ty m20 m21 m22 tz --- --- --- 1 I am not using OpenGL's fixed function pipeline, I am multiplying matrices on the client side, and uploading the matrix to a GLSL shader. If it helps, I am using my own matrix multiplication code, but I have recreated this problem using matrices on my graphing calculator, so I don't believe my matrix code has errors.. I'll include a visual aid if needed.

• Composing Silverlight Applications With MEF

  Anyone who has written an application with complexity enough to warrant multiple controls on multiple pages/forms should understand the benefit of composite application development.  That is defining your application architecture that can be separated into separate pieces each with it’s own distinct purpose that can then be “composed” together into the solution. Composition can be useful in any layer of the application, from the presentation layer, the business layer, common services or data access.  Historically people have had different options to achieve composing applications from distinct well known pieces – their own version of dependency injection, containers to aid with composition like Unity, the composite application guidance for WPF and Silverlight and before that the composite application block. Microsoft has been working on another mechanism to aid composition and extension of applications for some time now – the Managed Extensibility Framework or MEF for short.  With Silverlight 4 it is part of the Silverlight environment.  MEF allows a much simplified mechanism for composition and extensibility compared to other mechanisms – which has always been the primary issue for adoption of the earlier mechanisms/frameworks. This post will guide you through the simple use of MEF for the scenario of composition of an application – using exports, imports and composition.  Steps: 1.     Create a new Silverlight 4 application. 2.     Add references to the following assemblies: System.ComponentModel.Composition.dll System.ComponentModel.Composition.Initialization.dll 3.     Add a new user control called LeftControl. 4.     Replace the LayoutRoot Grid with the following xaml:     <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="Beige" Margin="40" >         <Button Content="Left Content" Margin="30"></Button>     </Grid> 5.     Add the following statement to the top of the LeftControl.xaml.cs file using System.ComponentModel.Composition; 6.     Add the following attribute to the LeftControl class     [Export(typeof(LeftControl))]   This attribute tells MEF that the type LeftControl will be exported – i.e. made available for other applications to import and compose into the application. 7.     Add a new user control called RightControl. 8.     Replace the LayoutRoot Grid with the following xaml:     <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="Green" Margin="40"  >         <TextBlock Margin="40" Foreground="White" Text="Right Control" FontSize="16" VerticalAlignment="Center" HorizontalAlignment="Center" ></TextBlock>     </Grid> 9.     Add the following statement to the top of the RightControl.xaml.cs file using System.ComponentModel.Composition; 10.   Add the following attribute to the RightControl class     [Export(typeof(RightControl))] 11.   Add the following xaml to the LayoutRoot Grid in MainPage.xaml:         <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" HorizontalAlignment="Center">             <Border Name="LeftContent" Background="Red" BorderBrush="Gray" CornerRadius="20"></Border>             <Border Name="RightContent" Background="Red" BorderBrush="Gray" CornerRadius="20"></Border>         </StackPanel>   The borders will hold the controls that will be imported and composed via MEF. 12.   Add the following statement to the top of the MainPage.xaml.cs file using System.ComponentModel.Composition; 13.   Add the following properties to the MainPage class:         [Import(typeof(LeftControl))]         public LeftControl LeftUserControl { get; set; }         [Import(typeof(RightControl))]         public RightControl RightUserControl { get; set; }   This defines properties accepting LeftControl and RightControl types.  The attrributes are used to tell MEF the discovered type that should be applied to the property when composition occurs. 14.   Replace the MainPage constructore with the following code:         public MainPage()         {             InitializeComponent();             CompositionInitializer.SatisfyImports(this);             LeftContent.Child = LeftUserControl;             RightContent.Child = RightUserControl;         }   The CompositionInitializer.SatisfyImports(this) function call tells MEF to discover types related to the declared imports for this object (the MainPage object).  At that point, types matching those specified in the import defintions are discovered in the executing assembly location of the application and instantiated and assigned to the matching properties of the current object. 15.   Run the application and you will see the left control and right control types displayed in the MainPage:   Congratulations!  You have used MEF to dynamically compose user controls into a parent control in a composite application model. In the next post we will build on this topic to cover using MEF to compose Silverlight applications dynamically in download on demand scenarios – so .xap packages can be downloaded only when needed, avoiding large initial download for the main application xap.
