• Windows Vista language text service problem

  Hi, All I'm using English version of Vista and having problems with using programs that display Russian characters somewhere. For example dictionaries doesn't work for me, since they display Russian character. Also I see just "magic" characters in text editor (notepad) when open a Russian text file. I tried to change whole Vista Interface language to Russian, but it still didn't solve the problem. I CAN read any web page from browser, that's not a problem. Also adding "Russian" in "Text Services and Input Languages" doesn't solve this problem. Does anyone know how to solve this? Thanks. My System: 32-bit Windows Vista Home Premium - SP2

• How do you redirect pages from a subdirectory up one level to the root directory

  I have recently moved all the content on my website from being in the www.mysite.com/shop directory to being in the root directory. This means that now I need to redirect any request to visit a page with the /shop directory back to the same page in the root directory eg. www.mysite.com/shop/categories/washroom to www.mysite.com/categories/washroom This needs to happen with all pages in my site that were previously using the /shop directory. The closest thing to a solution that I have found so far is the following code RedirectMatch ^/shop/.* http://www.mysite.com/ however this redirects all pages back to the homepage instead of to the relevant matching page without the /shop. Can someone please point me in the right direction, or if this has already been answered in here can you please post the link to the answer.

  I have a resource :products in a namespace :shop, like this: namespace :shop do resources :products root :to => 'products#index' end When running rake routes it outputs the following: edit_shop_product GET /shop/products/:id/edit(.:format) {:action=>"edit", :controller=>"shop/products"} But when I use the edit_shop_product_path in a partial view, like this: <%= button_to "Edit", edit_shop_product_path(product) %> I get an ActionController Exception: No route matches "/shop/products/1/edit" What am I missing?

• SSL in IIS 7 on a subdomain in a web farm

  I have been having one of the most frustrating days in my entire IT career. I am trying to install an SSL certificate on a subdomain in a web farm. http://shop.mydomain.com needs to ALWAYS be forced to https://shop.mydomain.com I have a temporary cert issued from verisign on shop.mydomain.com I have installed the cert on the server. The website for shop.mydomain.com is set as a host header in IIS with the DNS entry pointed to the same IP as mydomain.com - which is our load balancer. I actually have 2 load balancers (as needed by our ISP). One redirects all traffic on port 80 out to the different servers on port 80. The other pushes out port 443 to the servers on port 443. shop.mydomain.com is to be the only site protected by SSL at this time. When I add the binding and I navigate to https://shop.mydomain.com it pops up with a warning about the cert being invalid (assumed because this is a test cert), and then it sends the user to http. So, I checked the box "Require SSL and it redirects to http://shop.mydomain.com/default.aspx and displayes an ASP.NET 404 error message. (not the IIS 404 error) I tried removing the binding on the site to port 80 as well with no luck. I am nearly ready to crawl under my desk into the fetal position. How on earth do I make this work? I can't even get it to work on one machine, let alone in the load balanced environment.

• Alot of Pirated Material on Someone's Website - What Can Be Done?

  Hi, We've developed our website for over 10 years. Recently a website in China has begun to pirate our images and product descriptions (they are showing "new" March offerings). Nearly all of the items they "offer" are ours. Their whois leads to an outfit in France which by chance also hosts a website for Steroids, and both the Steroid and the pirate site share an 800 phone number (coincidence??). The pirate site lists "their" products as being available in mass quantities, though very often the actual product is one-of-a-kind. The images they've stolen appear in google searches alongside our own!! Clicking on any product at the pirate site leads to nowhere. Calls to the 800 number lead to a recorded answer. • With a browser, how do I know which decimal separator does the client use?

  I'm developing a web application. I need to display some decimal data correctly so that it can be copied and pasted into a certain GUI application that is not under my control. The GUI application is locale sensitive and it accepts only the correct decimal separator which is set in the system. I can guess the decimal separator from Accept-Language and the guess will be correct in 95% cases, but sometimes it fails. Is there any way to do it on server side (preferably, so that I can collect statistics), or on client side? Update: The whole point of the task is doing it automatically. In fact, this webapp is a kind of online interface to a legacy GUI which helps to fill the forms correctly. The kind of users that use it mostly have no idea on what a decimal separator is. The Accept-Language solution is implemented and works, but I'd like to improve it. Update2: I need to retrive a very specific setting: decimal separator set in Control Panel / Regional and Language Options / Regional Options / Customize. I deal with four kinds of operating systems: Russian Windows with a comma as a DS (80%). English Windows with a period as a DS (15%). Russian Windows with a period as a DS to make poorly written English applications work (4%). English Windows with a comma as a DS to make poorly written Russian applications work (1%). All 100% of clients are in Russia and the legacy application deals with Russian goverment-issued forms, so asking for a country will yield 100% of Russian Federation, and GeoIP will yield 80% of Russian Federation and 20% of other, incorrect answers.

  I'm trying to create a table using PHP. What I need is a table with two columns. So I have an SQL table with 4 fields - primary key id, language, word and definition. The language for each is either Arabic or Russian. I want a table that does the following: | defintion | |____________________| | | | rus1 | arab1 | | rus2 | arab2 | | rus3 | arab3 | | rus4 | | So it divides the list by English word, creates a for each English word, then lists Russian equivalents in the left column and Arabic in the right. However there are often not the same number for both. What I am doing right now is running a WHILE loop in a WHILE loop. The outer loop is running fine but I think I am doing the inner loop wrong. • How should a one-man development shop document their code?

  Hi, please let me first describe my situation. I work in an IT department for a small-to-medium sized industrial-company and basically I'm the only real developer (sometimes a second guy joins in for his own projects). I programm mostly in C#/.net. Of course I only programm for internal need (Intranet, reporting, data-driven apps, some mobile apps, ...). My question is how should I document my work? It's a highly dynamic environment (the features and bug fixes I implement are tested by me during production, and go live, often within a day. If I technical documentation like MSDN or even overview diagramms those would take me more time to sync than the whole programming process. Also I feel it's a waste of time because I would be the only one who ever read it. I do understand that if I get sick, leave, or forget this documentation would be valuable. PS:well of course you are right - the quesion is how much and how/where. I try using the XML-docu comments for the public exposed parts but as I'm a believer in self-documenting code the comments mostly restates in plain text what you can read from the method-head itself :(Maybe using the remarks section is the key but if you have 30 lines of code with a 15 line xml-comment in front it just looks dirty (sorry for posting it here but our firewall rejects JSON :( )

The problem is the block has to generate some urls for files in the skin directory that cannot be put into css files as the file names depend on category model data. Now when I open magento using a secure connection (https://) the navigation block is fetched from the cache and is sent to the browser but with the http:// urls resulting in a warning in most browsers about unsecure elements on the page. I'd like the have separat caches for secure and unsecure connections. • Web master tools is throwing out 404 errors on link not on page

  Webmaster tools is showing thousands of 404 errors, where pages on the site are referring to another incorrect url. For example, URL not found www.plantify.co.uk/shop/=, linked from http://www.plantify.co.uk/shop/gift-voucher and http://www.plantify.co.uk/shop/special-plant-offers. I obviously have checked the source and cannot find any references to this link on any page. The only consistent issue is that it only seems to report this error on pages with two section i.e. www.plantify.co.uk/shop does not report any error whilst all pages with www.plantify.co.uk/shop/xxx (where xxx can be several different pages such as gift-voucher) all report this. I cannot seem to duplicate this error. I have run a link checker (we use Screaming Frog) and it does not report this error. I have fetched these pages as a bot, and these do not report this error. I am at a total loss. I cannot even duplicate the issue, but it is most definitely an issue, as Webmaster Tools is reporting new errors every day. Is this perhaps google bot doing its own thing?

• Ignore non-unicode programs language when installing software

  This is something that is driving me nuts for a while and I haven't been able to find a solution for this problem anywhere. I am running Windows 7 and my "Language for non-Unicode programs" setting is set to Russian. I need for some non-unicode software that has a Russian UI. However, for most of my software I prefer to use the English UI. A lot of software out there is multilingual and is too smart for my liking. When installing, it switches the UI to Russian and the software UI stays in Russian after the installation without an option to change that, besides setting the "non-unicode language" to English. It switches back to Russian once I revert the setting and reboot. Most of the time it is driver software, i.e: Intel, HP, etc. How can force the installation to run English and stay that way after install, ignoring the "Language for non-Unicode programs" setting? Now, I understand this might be specific to the installer: MSI, Install Shield, etc. But any solution will be good, even if I have to apply it for every software installation. • Exclude an input language from Alt+Shift/Ctrl+Shift switching cycle on Windows

  I have 3 input languages installed on my Windows 7: English, Russian and Japanese. So when I switch between them by Ctrl+Shift, they go like English - Russian - Japanese - English - ... I don't use Japanese much, but still need it occasionally. Is there a way to somehow exclude it from the "Ctrl+Shift cycle" without uninstalling it from the system? E. g. Ctrl+Shift will be like English - Russian - English - ..., while I still could switch to Japanese by a dedicated keyboard shortcut, say, Ctrl + 3? That extra Ctrl+Shift to go through Japanese just to switch between English and Russian is very annoying, and using Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2, Ctrl+3 for each input language isn't very ergonomic, either.

  There's a program I'm thinking of using called Punto Switcher that detects a language I'm typing in and switching entire word between Russian and English. The problem I have with this setup is that even though most of Russian letters "correspond" to English letters, Russian keys are scattered all over the keyboard and I don't feel like learning them all as I type in English mostly. Now, the program is very specific about me using RU, kbdru.dll file, not any other and if I use a custom keyboard under Russian, it doesn't recognize what I type so I think I should change the default RU keyboard. I created my custom keyboard using Microsoft's tool and I need to modify original one. I think it will take more than just replacing a file. Help?

  So I work as a project manager and was given the opportunity to redo the intranet and Internet site... I'd love to , great addition to my resume. However.... I am not familiar with java nor JSP... I am fairly proficient with PHP and MySQL ... Also my intention was to use a CMS that I have experience with, wordpress, drupal or joomla... The site would be very simple so I was thinking wordpress would be fine for this. I told management that I would need it to run on PHP and they gave me their blessing... Now the disconnect bw it and management ... I spoke with ops and they told me that we have java and JSP for that purpose although the IT guy did say "oh but I do know that php and mysql are gaining popularity" That said ... I do not understand much as far as systems architecture... We do self host and run websphere with IIS and jboss with tomcat. Any advice or suggestions? Thanks ! Is my request that unfeasible?

  I have a webserver that has an ssl certificate applied to a subdomain https://shop.mydomain.com. I also have the hostname http://mydomain.com that has no ssl certificate. When invoking https://mydomain.com, browsers issue a warning that a certificate could not be verified because the webserver is identifying itself as https://shop.mydomain.com. I would like all traffic that hits https://mydomain.com to be redirected to http://mydomain.com, and leave https://shop.mydomain.com as is. My httpd.conf file generally looks like this: < VirtualHost 122.11.11.21:80 > ServerName shop.mydomain.com .. regular old port 80 .. < /VirtualHost > < VirtualHost 122.11.11.21:443 > ServerName shop.mydomain.com .. SSL applies here .. < /VirtualHost > < VirtualHost 122.11.11.21:80 > ServerName mydomain.com .. regular old port 80 .. < /VirtualHost > It does not look as if I have SSL set up for https://mydomain.com yet one can invoke SSL mode and the browser identifies the connection as https://shop.mydomain.com. I need to redirect from https://mydomain.com because for some reason, Google has indexed my website with this url even though it shows a warning. I have tried various methods to get this to redirect and nothing has worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  i really need your advice folks since i'm experiencing some troubles with nginx & apache2 subdomains configs first of all, there's a site (say, site.com) and two subdomains (links.site.com and shop.site.com) whose files are physically located at the same level of FS hierarchy as the site.com itself my hoster has configured both apache and nginx by my request, but it still doesn't work as it used to both of subdomains point to the main page of site.com for some unknown and implicit (for me) reason :( my assumption is that's happen because site.com record is placed first in both configs?!.. please help me solve this out! • non-english VS2008 + Resharper 4.5 = problems

  I have russian version of VS2008 (don't aske me why..) + R# 4.5. After installing R# these problems appear: Can't select text with "Ctrl+Shift+arrow" (no idea how to fix it) Can't use Resharper shortcut scheme. I have trying to apply R# scheme, rebooting VS - no luck. Seems like Russian VS have something different inside it, not only russian textboxes... Any ideas?

• Images missing after moving Django to new server

  I'm moving Django project to new server. I'm newbie in Django, and I don't know where should be upload folder. There are all images which should be displayed on website. In config file I haven't seen upload folder I could specify, so I'm guessing it always should be the same location for django projects or I just can't find it. Locations are saved in database. When I've put uploaded files into media folder, so url was like domain.co.uk/media/upload/media/images/year/month/day/image_name.ext and the same is on the old website, images on website ware still missing. All images are visible if I put url by hand, but django doesn't seems to see files.
