• Disable "Send as XPS Attachment" Word 2007

  Is there a way to disable this option either via Group Policy or via some form of registry hack? Normally I would go down the route of telling users not to send as XPS and send as something else but with our recent upgrade to 2007 lots of users are banding these files around. Unfortunately our version of Citrix does not play nicely with XPS documents and we end up having to log them out. Am told the fix for Citrix is not forthcoming so wondered if I could bury my head in the sand and disable the option all together. Regards Tim

• Free alternatives to vSphere for ESXi (if one exists)

  Dear All, Am feeling a touch confused and overwhemled. From what I gather even though ESXi is free I will only be able to manage my VMs (create or power on etc) for 60 days unless I buy a licence for vSphere. This is somewhat frustrating. As I am looking for a home lab to practice for various certs I was hoping to also practice using vmware stuff to do so. Have I got the wrong end of the stick? Is there a free built in web interface like there was with VMServer or is the only option vSphere (which is massively out of my price range)? • One samba directory is very slow

  We have a RHEL server running as a samba server for our Windows network which has been running fine for ages. All of a sudden this morning one specific folder became really slow and sometimes inaccessible. It's the /home/ directory (containing all of the user specific stuff, like their windows desktops, documents etc). It's not only really slow over the network, but when I try to use ls to view the directory it just hangs. • c# - can you make a "weak" assembly reference to a strong named assembly

  My database tables have prefixes on them and when the DataModel generates the EntityObjects they have the prefixes at the beginning of the class name. Is there anyway that I can have those prefixes ignored when the DataModel is updating/creating the classes? • Rendering GDI components to a buffer or d3d texture

  Hi all, for a project we will be doing webbased certificate enrollment, in Vista / Win7 combination with IE this gives some problems if the user does not import the root certificate first and then changes a lot of default IE settings (Enable ActiveX not marked safe for scripting etc....).   Hi all, currently I'm assigning a TextWriter to the Log property of my Linq to Sql data context (per request instancing) and write this to my logging when an exception is thrown while executing a stored procedure (is strongly typed mapped in the context, so not executing a custom command) however when using ADO.NET we normally inspect the SqlCommand upon unhandled exception to read out the parameters and log them is it possible to access the SqlCommand that was used for executing a Stored Procedure in L2S so we can reuse that existing logging component? • C++: Can virtual inheritance be detected at compile time?

• Web based KVM management for Ubuntu

  Hey all, We've got a single Ubuntu 9.10 root server on which we want to run multiple KVM virtual machines. To administer these virtual machines I'd like a web based KVM management tool, but I don't know which one to choose from the list of tools mentioned on linux-kvm.org. I've used virsh & virt-manager on my desktop, but would like a web interface for the server. I tested ConVirt on my desktop, but it failed to pickup KVM machines from virsh / virt-manager, and I could not get KVM virtual machine import to work (only Xen). oVirt looks good, but I can't find out if and how I can install it on Ubuntu 9.10.. (And I'd really rather not waste another few days on testing stuff that might not work in the end.) Can anyone recommend any good web based KVM management tools that are easy to install on Ubuntu 9.10? I'm looking for something that will also allow me to run other services like apache and postgresql besides hosting virtual machines, so preferably fairly lightweight & no dedicated OS installs. We don't need any professional clustering / migration or anything, just something that will let us create, start, inspect, administer & stop virtual machines from a web page. Best regards, Tim

• Apache mod-pagespeed installation affects mod-spdy?

  Recently my site (an https connection, running on an Amazon EC2 ubuntu apache2.2) has this issue where I need to load the page several times (3-4) before it will load normally without issue. It will then load normally as long as I keep loading pages regularly (every couple seconds). It will stall again if I don't load pages for a few minutes. It has nothing to do with my application because I don't have this problem with the exact same app codebase on my Apache installation on my laptop. The only things to my knowledge that I've changed is that I recently installed mod_spdy and then a few weeks later I installed mod_pagespeed, https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/mod. However, I have since turned mod_pagespeed off by setting its pagespeed.conf to mod_pagespeed off. Unfortunately, that didn't solve the problem. The line below is how every of last 10 lines of my error.log look: # tail -f /var/log/apache2/error.log ... • USB Wifi will not connect on Windows 7 (Even though the driver installs OK)

  Windows 7 will not connect to a WiFi Netowrk using a USB Network Adapter. I have 3 adapters, A Senoa SUB 364 (EXT), a Repeatit SU2410 USB V2 and a ZYXEL G202. All of these devices install OK on Windows 7 Home Premium on my Destop PC (64 bit) and on my Asus Wii Netbook (32 bit). In each case the adapter can be enabled/disabled and the driver properties says it is working correctly. When I try and connect to a network Windows 7 behaves as though the adapter does not exist and reports no networks. The Wii has an integrated adapter which works perfectly under Windows and connects to either of the 3 networks available to me. I have done all the checks I can on the configuration. What seems odd to me is that it happens to all 3 devices on 2 different windows 7 PCs both of which are working perfectly in any other respect. This suggests the common denominator is me and I must be doing something wrong.. what's also strange is that I cannot find any similar problems being reported on any of the forums. From what reading I've been able to do it seems like the new wifi virtualisation thingy in W7 is not recognising the adapters which suggests I', missing a configuration option somewhere. Looking forward to finding out if I'm not alone or just being stupid. Pete

  Sorry my question is so vague I just have no idea where to start in solving it and am quite a novice with servers. For instance are there linux commands to check page loading peformance? Also, it looks like I have lots of new error.logs in my /var/log/apache2 directory which i believe weren't there a few months ago. lots of this : error.log RewriteLog.log.24.gz ssl_access.log.40.gz error.log.1 RewriteLog.log.25.gz ssl_access.log.41.gz error.log.10.gz RewriteLog.log.26.gz ssl_access.log.42.gz error.log.11.gz RewriteLog.log.27.gz any thoughts? thank you, tim
