Why do my window titles lag behind the window contents?

The window title displayed in my maverick is often for the previous window. This is most noticeable in Firefox after using the back key to go to the previous window, but it also happens in file search and various media players. This even occurs in brand new installs of maverick and linux mint 10, so I know it has nothing to do with any configuration file snafu. I am using a Toshiba Satellite notebook with Intel graphics. Oddly enough, linux mint does not display this glitch when running in virtualbox (don't know about maverick in vbox). Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Program to restore open windows after crash

Are there any programs (for PC) that will constantly monitor what programs and windows within those programs you have open, and then restore each of those windows in case of a crash/forced restart? (looking specifically for Outlook, but open to all ideas)? Something similar to Chrome's feature where after a crash, it says "Looks like Chrome didn't shut down properly. Would you like to restore your open tabs?"

Windows 7 Ultimate Restore From Another Machine

The situation I have an old machine running Windows Server 2008. I make a backup of selected directories. New Machine: I install Windows 7 Ultimate (and Windows Server 2008 [dual boot]) I cannot restore those files that I backed-up on the old machine. On the New machine neither the Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 Restore (Recovery) can 'see' the backup files even though they are on the local machine. Is this behaviour (non-behaviour) 'by design' or am I missing something?

I also realize it won't harm my documents, but are there any pit-falls? Actually the machine is a quiet, under-used with no recent program additions, so I don't anticipate any complications, nevertheless gotchas and tips are appreciated.

Hi, I have backed up a large database from SQL 2005 and am trying to restore it to a SQL 2008 database. It seems to work ok until it gets to 100% when it hangs indefinitely. I've managed to restore smaller databases to this server ok. Any ideas?

Suggestion: ALLFILES option for RESTORE

The default action when performing a backup is to append to the backup file yet the default action when restoring a backup is to restore just the first file.I constantly come across customer situations where they are puzzled that they seem to have lost data after they have completed a restore. Invariably, it's just that they haven't restored all the backups contained within a single OS file. This happens most commonly with log backups but also happens when they have not restored the most recent database backup file.It is not trivial to achieve this within simple T-SQL scripts, when the number of backup files within the OS file is unknown. It really should be.I'd like to see a FILES=ALLFILES option on the RESTORE command. For RESTORE DATABASE, it should restore the most recent database backup plus any subsequent log files. Unfortunately, Unity keeps focus on the right window while raising the new one. A number of times, this has caused me to close an application by accident that had control of the menu bar, even though it was underneath the new window. Is there a way to prevent raise without focus?

How to get a "Maximize" button in every window in GNOME Fallback

Just installed Ubuntu 11.10 (AMD64), and immediately switched back to GNOME with GNOME Fallback. I'm searching for a feature which provided a "maximise" button in every window, even ones which should have only the "close" button. In older Ubuntu versions this feature was activated when switching from "None" to "Normal" in "Visual Effects": But now, that window is out, and I can't find that feature. I guess it's somewhere in CompizConfig, but I've searched there with no result. Does anyone know what's the feature I'm searching for?

Command line scripts to restore the 4 system databases of MS SQL Server 2008

Hi there, can someone give me some advice on how to restore the 4 system databases (master, msdb, model, tempdb) of a sql server 2008 please? I've already done some testing myself (on restoring the master database) with the following commad line script as a result: ::set variables set dbname=master set dbdirectory=C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA title Restoring %dbname% database net stop mssqlserver cd C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Binn sqlservr -m sqlcmd -Slocalhost -E -Q "restore database master from disk='c:\master.bak' WITH REPLACE" net start mssqlserver pause After the execution of the 'sqlservr -m' command (used to start the server instance in single-user mode, which is only necessary when restoring the MASTER database), the script stops. So in order to execute the last 2 commands I need to separate the script into 2 smaller scripts, and run them one after the other. Does anyone has an idea on how I can merge them into one single script that runs completely without any interruption? I also want to restore the other 3 system databases using command line scripts like this one. Can someone please advice me how I need to go on? I've already noticed that restoring the temdb is not so easy, but there has to be a way... Looking forward to your advice!

During copying files via lan my Ubuntu Server 10.04 hung up and I had to reset the computer. After reboot, I got: Grub error 17, so I tried the rescue alternate CD, but I got a info, that no partitions were found on the disk. I used testdisk to restore the partitions. Using fdisk -l shows the partitions now, but when the system boots up I does nothing but displays: L234: When I plug the drive to another computer, it is not automatically mounted and I can't access the data. What to do now? How to restore the grub and boot up the system?

Entire filesystem restore from rdiff-backup snapshot

I'm trying to make a complete system restore from an rdiff-backup. The cli for backing was: rdiff-backup --exclude-special-files --exclude /tmp --exclude /mnt --exclude /proc --exclude /sys / /mnt/backup/ebox/ I created a new partition mounted the partition at /mnt/gentoo and did: rdiff-backup -r /mnt/vol2 /mnt/gentoo However when I try to chroot to this system (following gentoo's manual, which means mounting /dev/ and /proc) I get the following error: chroot: failed to run command/bin/bash': No such file or directory` All this takes place on a Parallels (virtual machine) Debian installation. Any ideas on how to proceed in order to fully restore the system? Best Regards ps. /mnt/gentoo/bin/bash works fine if I execute it. All files and permissions are in place rdiff-backup seems to work just fine. However the system cannot neither boot (exits with kernel panic - cannot find init) or be chrooted.

Restore data from one Windows edition to another

I have a Swedish Windows 7 Home Premium on my PC, and I really want to change system language to English. I know that Home Premium can't change system language (only W7 Ultimate does that), so I consider buying an English version and make a clean install. However I do have many settings, programs etc that I don't want to lose. I therefore have two questions: Can I take a backup of my Swedish W7 Home Premium, install the English W7 Home Premium and then restore everything back to normal, except the system language is now English? Can I take a backup of my Swedish W7 Home Premium, install W7 Ultimate and then restore everything back to normal (now with the option to change system language)? Thanks!

I've got a single massive monitor at home, and I've decided to mimic the Windows 7 window tiling shortcuts. I found a few guides online using wmctrl, and it's going well, save one thing: maximized windows don't respond to it. gconftool-2 --type string --set /apps/metacity/keybinding_commands/command_1 "wmctrl -r :ACTIVE: -e 0, 0,0, `xwininfo -root | grep Width | awk '{ print ($2/2)}'`, `xwininfo -root | grep Height | awk '{ print $2 }'`" (I've added line returns to make an otherwise massive one-liner readable.) I've bound this to a hotkey and it works, unless the window is maximized. Any ideas on how to fix this up?

LXDE keybind "Raise" window not working

I am using LXDE* over Ubuntu Oneiric on a DELL Studio-XPS 64-bit machine and I can't get the keybind for raising windows to work. In my ~/.config/openbox/lxde-rc.xml I put:  <keybind key="A-Down"> <action name="Iconify"/> </keybind>  <keybind key="A-Up"> <action name="Focus"/> <action name="Raise"/> </keybind> then I openbox --reconfigure, but no rasing windows keybindings. I could use the NextWindow action, but... not really the same. I'd like to run a script whenever I switch into or out of a window. Specifically, I have a "toggle touchpad on/off" script, which i want to run whenever I switch into or out of gvim. so, is there any kind of hook for that? even something that can be run whenever alt-tab is detected, as long as it can tell what window you're going from/to? I'm using gnome-shell, if that makes any difference. [edit] Have started looking into gnome-shell-extensions, which seem to be written in javascript, so might not be too hard to hack one together myself...

Exchange 2007 restore - Backup Exec Unable to Attach to a resource

I have been struggling with this one for months! Grateful for any advice. The setup is a windows 2003 server network, 4xservers on the domain. Two exchange 2007 servers (only one with mailboxes still on). Backup Exec (12.5) on a non-exchange server with agents on the others. Backup exec runs a full backup of exchange across the network well, at pretty reasonable speeds. However, when you try any kind of restore (individual emails, mailboxes or whole system restore - all to same location or to alternate server, RSG etc) the following message is received within about 10-15 secs of starting the job: Job ended: 24 December 2010 at 13:28:32 Completed status: Failed Final error: 0xe000848c - Unable to attach to a resource. Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again. If the server or resource no longer exists, remove it from the selection list. Edit the selection list properties, click the View Selection Details tab, and then remove the resource. Final error category: Resource Errors For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-33932 Things I have already tried: Changed account to main administrator account (with all permissions) checked versions of ese.dll on both servers - both the same Checked all VSS writers on both servers are stable / normal restoring to different locations Any advice anyone could give would be much appreciated. WSS 3.0 Backup/Restore Root Site Collection to Sub-Site of New Site Collection

Our intranet was originally setup to be at the root of its site collection. We are trying to change this so that our new internet site will live in the root and the intranet will be a sub-site. At this point I have created a new web application and site collection to house the internet and intranet. I used the 'stsadm -o backup' command to create a backup of our current intranet. I then ran the 'stsadm -o restore' command to restore the intranet site collection to wss/sites/intranet. This seems to have worked as I am able to access the intranet from this location. The issue I now seem to have is that images, sub-sites, etc. are all making reference as if the intranet is still the root site. So for example a link to a sub-site is pointing to wss/department/technology/default.aspx and it needs to point to wss/sites/intranet/department/technology/default.aspx. I am looking for help and/or clarification on two things: 1. Am I approaching the migration of a root site collection to a sub-site the best way? 2. How would I go about updating the link references so that they are based on the intranet now being a sub-site instead of the root site?

Problems with Windows 7 restore

My WD raptor 150 failed with a nice clicking noise. So, I picked up a velociraptor 300 and popped it in. I had windows set to do a full system backup nightly, so I figured the recovery ought to go easily. Well, it isn't. It is currently stuck on a screen that says: "Windows is restoring your computer from the system image. This might take from a few minutes to a few hours" Below that is a rather large progress meter with maybe the first block filled in. Below that is a message that says "Restoring disk (C:)..." It's been that way for over an hour. The first time around, I gave up after 2 hours. I then booted into the system recovery options and went to a command prompt and ran a chkdsk on the new drive. It showed several file inconsistencies and not much else. I ran a chkdsk /f on it and tried again... Which is where I'm at now. I can't see that the restore process should take this long before. Any ideas? UPDATE After 10 hours, it's still on "Restoring disk (C:)" and the progress meter is at roughly 5%. I'm guessing at the 5% as there isn't an actual number or anything else that I can look at showing what it's actually doing. The backup contains roughly 120GB of data. How slow is windows restore?

Ubuntu Screenshot Window Class

I would like to know the class for the "thing" that pops up when you take a screen shot using the default screen capture utility in Ubuntu 12.04. When I do a full screen capture it lags a lot because of particular animation I use to open things like drop down menus. Therefore I’d like to disable that only. If someone could provide me with the window "class=" or however I would disable the animation there it would be greatly appreciated.
