• At what point should I change the way Struts acquires the session token?

  It seems I have to find a different way to transmit the session token from a Flex client to a Struts backend without using cookies. If I were to put the session token in the payload of a request, at what point would I have to customize Struts' behaviour so that I can reuse as much of the existing session handling as possible? In particular, I don't want to reimplement whatever security measures (such as tying a token to an IP) and configuration parameters (such as session expiration interval). There's a CreateSession interceptor, rather early in the default stack, should I swap that with a subclassed version?

• Lightweight PHP server to bundle with application?

  Does there exist some sort of PHP server that can be bundled with a locally-deployed application? It sounds wonky, but the end result is I can't use a remote web server to do anything. Clients will be downloading a package, and the plan is to use a Java backend that reads from a flat file. The flat file contains settings and is modified through a GUI written in HTML/JS, and this is where the server would come in. The forms in HTML should be able to submit to the server, which does a simple file write to the flat file. Is there any simple, lightweight server that has that simple feature? When running the executable for the application, it would start the installation process for the server before moving the web GUI files to the appropriate locations. Note that I'm doing this for a client, so I can't quite change the reqs and would rather not discuss their effectiveness. I would be ever thankful if people had suggestions for the server though!

• Magento images not showing on front end

  I'm using Magento 1.4. I have two website set up. If I upload images to Website A, they appear fine on both front and back end. If I upload or import images to Website B, they do not appear on the front end, only the backend. I'm completely stuck. I'm happy to provide any additional details that may be helpful, but am so frustrated I'm not sure what is necessary info to fix the problem. Thanks!

• Using GWT to output XML, JSON and regular HTML

  Sorry, this is a very basic question, as we are just getting started with exploring GWT. We would like to know if it's easy and possible to get GWT to "output" XML, JSON and regular HTML. I would like to know this because ideally we would port parts of our backends over slowly, and it would be nice to drop in GWT in place of AJAX wherever we need it during the transition period. Places that we would like to be able to use: 1) We have a pure XML page that we return to our client (mobile) app and right now this is handled through Spring MVC with a nice template. What's the best replacement for this? 2) We have a regular AJAX page that makes async requests and expects replies in JSON. Can we easily replace this backend? 3) We have some regular webpages where we use templates to output them, and we would like to first switch them over in the simplest possible way, without converting them to the regular GWT UI framework.   I have a problem with saving the £ symbol to a mysql database. I am running a flex front end, with a php + mysql backend When I save a record from flex, the string gets sent to the server as "This amount is £10" php views the string as above, and when it gets saved into the DB, it gets saved as "This amount is £10". My understanding is that this is correct based on MySQL or PHP is appending a  whenever the £ is used I now retrieve the above record, and it gets sent to flex as "This amount is £10". Flex correctly displays this in a textarea as "This amount is £10" I change another field in the same record in flex, and re-save the transaction. The string now gets sent to the server as "This amount is £10" The record is now saved into the DB as "The amount is £10". Each time the record is re-saved, this effect snowballs. Thanks for any advice you can give.

  I already have an express checkout integrated with my Codeigniter application. Now I want to integrate seamless paypal where I collect the CC information and pass it to Paypal (via backend) and once everything is approved, my application shows that to the user. All this with out ever going to Paypal's website. I know that Paypal gives a bunch of sample code but they have so many different products that advertise to do the same thing. Is there any wrapper library in PHP that I can use for handling all this? What sort of design decision is involved in migrating to such system? Would I need SSL certificates for this?

  I'd like to count the number of keys in a map in Pig. I could write a UDF to do this, but I was hoping there would be an easier way. data = LOAD 'hbase://MARS1' USING org.apache.pig.backend.hadoop.hbase.HBaseStorage( 'A:*', '-loadKey true -caching=100000') AS (id:bytearray, A_map:map[]); In the code above, I want to basically build a histogram of id and how many items in column family A that key has. In hoping, I tried c = FOREACH data GENERATE id, COUNT(A_map); but that unsurprisingly didn't work. Or, perhaps someone can suggest a better way to do this entirely. If I can't figure this out soon I'll just write a Java MapReduce job or a Pig UDF.

• database table in Magento does not exist: sales_flat_shipment_grid

  We're using Magento 1.4.0.1 and want to use an extension from a 3rd party developer. The extension does not work, because of a join to the table "sales_flat_shipment_grid": $collection = $model->getCollection()->join('sales/shipment_grid', 'increment_id=shipment', array('order_increment_id'=>'order_increment_id', 'shipping_name' =>'shipping_name'), null,'left'); Unfortunately this table does not exist n our database. So the error "Can't retrieve entity config: sales/shipment_grid" appears. If I comment this part out, the extension is working, but I guess, it does not proper work. Does anybody know something about this table? There are a backend-option for the catalog to use the "flat table" option, but this is only for the catalog. And the tables already exists, no matter which option is checked. Thank you a lot! :-)

  On our network (a group of related websites - not a LAN) we have a common authentication system which works like this: On a network site ("consumer") the user clicks on a login link This redirects the user to a login page on our auth system ("RAS"). Upon successful login the user is directed back to the consumer site. Extra data is passed in the query string. This extra data does not include any information about the user yet. The consumer site's backend contacts RAS to get the information about the logged in user. So as you can see, the consumer site knows nothing about the authentication method. It doesn't know if it's by username/password, fingerprint, smartcard, or winning a game of poker. This is the main problem I'm encountering when trying to find out how I could write custom authentication plugins for these packages, acting as consumer sites: Wordpress Joomla MediaWiki For example Joomla offers a pretty simple auth plugin system, but it depends on a username/password entered on the Joomla site. Any hints on where to start?

• Customising Symfony Admin Generator Form

  Hi, I've generated the backend of my application, and am now just 'jazzing' the forms up (adding correct labels, validation rules etc). One thing I'd like to do is add a map (Google) which updates the marker as an address is entered into the form, then allows the user to drag it to correct the lat/lng should it be a little off. My question is, how can I customise the output of the form - I've read the docs (1.0,1.1,1.2 also) and it all seems very confusing. Customising forms not generated with the admin generator I know how to do using renderRow(); etc; but finding a way to add a little bit of HTML to the forms is making my eyes hurt! There's so much out of date stuff on the web regarding Symfony it's hard to know what to trust! If anyone can point me in the right direction that'd be great. Best Regards, Rich

• Compressing a hex string in Ruby/Rails

  I'm using MongoDB as a backend for a Rails app I'm building. Mongo, by default, generates 24-character hexadecimal ids for its records to make sharding easier, so my URLs wind up looking like: example.com/companies/4b3fc1400de0690bf2000001/employees/4b3ea6e30de0691552000001 Which is not very pretty. I'd like to stick to the Rails url conventions, but also leave these ids as they are in the database. I think a happy compromise would be to compress these hex ids to shorter collections using more characters, so they'd look something like: example.com/companies/3ewqkvr5nj/employees/9srbsjlb2r Then in my controller I'd reverse the compression, get the original hex id and use that to look up the record. My question is, what's the best way to convert these ids back and forth? I'd of course want them to be as short as possible, but also url-safe and simple to convert. Thanks!

Right now I'm using two sessions (sessions with different names), one for the admin and one for the frontend. Is it possible to write in the first session, close it and then open a new session? • Wordpress: Not able to retrieve css for new plugin in admin mode

  I'm creating a new plugin which will have it's own css file. The css file resides in the root folder of the plugin. In the plugin section of the admin interface, I have added a few text fields fields. But the CSS is not applied. I'm adding the CSS file using this code: // Register styling add_action('admin_init', 'event_styles'); function event_styles() { wp_register_style('event_cal', plugins_url('eventcall.css',__FILE__)); wp_enqueue_style('event_cal'); } The following code gives me the CSS path: echo plugins_url('eventcall.css',__FILE__); and outputs http://mysite.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-eventcal/eventcall.css If I try to enter this URL directly in the browser, it only shows me the front page. And if I look in the source code using Firebug, where the link to the CSS should be, I only find the entire HTML code for the front page. Am I using wrong code to use backend in admin interface?   Hi, I have a python app engine code (matured backend) - and we are now planning to have a front end for that code. I was wondering whether it is possible to implement GWT as the front end. Even though Alex Martelli in this post [1] mentions it is not possible, a comment to that post suggests that it is indeed possible using rpc over json for GWT. I was unable to understand how this is possible. In app.yaml file, we have to specify the language to be python, right? In that case, how can it compile GWT based on JAVA? Are there any examples on anyone doing that? Can someone help me out? It would be extremely helpful. • Problem with Silverlight/wpf in scrolling html div.

  Hi all, I have a Silverlight object sitting at the bottom of a scrollable div. This object is submitted to a wcf backend via a javascript button. The problem is, as the silverlight is at the bottom of the scrollable div it is not viewable until you have scrolled down. This is generating an error when the javascript button is clicked ( if i havent scrolled down ) awfully strange, or am i just an idiot :/ if i scroll down so the silverlight object, so it is in view it submits just fine. The error i got is an alert type error which says : The parameter value must be greater than zero. Parameter name: pixelWidth This seems to be returned from the wcf service. What could cause this? • Will dynamicaly generated content via Javascript hurt SEO

  This is what I would like to do. I would like to load content dynamically. Everything except the actual content will be rendered by javascript. I will place all the require information in a javascript variable or array at the bottom of the page. Then I will use javascript to place the content in the designated area. These are the types of things I would like javascript to render: Login menu Header and logo info Side bar info Footer info Dialog popups Ads All of the MEAT content will not be rendered by javascript. I will use the backend server to put the content in html. My logic is that more of the real content will be in HTML and all the other things will be rendered by javascript. Will this help or hurt SEO?

  Hi, i googled for an hour now but maybe my Google-Fu is just too weak, i couldn't find a solution. I want to create an application that queries a service via JSON requests (all data and backend/business logic is stored in the service). With plain PHP it's simple enough since i just make a curl request, json_decode the result and get what i need. This already works quite well. A request might look like this: Call http://service-host/userlist with body: {"logintoken": "123456-1234-5678-901234"} Get Result: { "status": "Ok", "userlist":[ {"name": "foo", "id": 1}, {"name": "bar", "id": 2} ] } Now we want to get that into the Zend Framework since it's a hobby project and we want to learn about Zend. The problem is that all information i could find use a Database. Is there even a way to create a Zend Project that does not use a Database? And how can i write a model that represents the actions instead of objects and object-relations?

• change Magento to new server, images of existing product do not shown in frontend

  I have moved a Magento website to a new server to optimize speed. All images appear to be replaced by image placeholders. I tried to set permission for media to 777, when I delete cache media folder and refresh, a new cache folder is created automatically, but only with placeholder images inside. I flushed image cache, reindex in magento backend but still no hope. What should I do now? Somethings might be helpful: . It's fine to create new product with images . Flush cache, only placeholders images are created . tried to use magento-cleanup.php, no hope . tried to remove .htaccess in media folder . the images of products are there in the media folder, just not in cache folder. Magento only looks at the cache folder for image :(

  Not sure if this is the right place to post this, or if it should be under programmers.stackexchange... Anywho, a couple of my friends run a business and they asked me to build them a public website. It will only be used for information about the company with soe pictures. No transactions will be involved. Right now I work for a company where I build internal websites, and do alot of backend programming in C#. I understand html, css, jquery, etc. so I feel like I am completely capable of building a website for them. However, I do not know all the basic knowledge to building one. For example, where should we host the files, what type of security issues do I need to be aware of, what's the best software to use for developing websites (I use visual studio at work), where can I find some design techniques, etc. Any help is appreciated.

• Magento - Programmatically added products don't show up

  I am trying to import products using a custom made import profile. Here I set some values on the product and then save it, like this: $product = Mage::getModel('catalog/product'); $data = array(); // Inbetween I fill $data with some values $product->addData($data); $product->save(); However, the products do show up in the admin, but do not show up on the frontend (I did add them to categories). The odd thing is, they do appear on the frontend once I open them in the admin and save them again (without modifying anything). Am I forgetting something, or some value that is somehow set by that action? I tried to rebuild all indices in the backend and to clear the cache, but this does not work, contrary to Magento API: Rebuild Indexes after adding new products.

• Caching instances in a jee web app

  Hi, Consider the scenario of a typical webapp with JSFs on the front and ejb3, with Hibernate as JPA provider, talking to backend database such as mysql, etc. The main user actions are login and mostly CRUD operations (minus any D(elete) operations). And the App Server is GlassFish of course. Given this scenario, how and where all would one go about providing caching to improve performance? From what I have googled, I have seen that hibernate provides some sort of caching through different cache providers. Is there any sort of caching that can be provided for the jsf pages? How about session beans or entity beans on the ejb side of things? Also, I just read about memcached and was wondering if this was something to consider?
