• TomCat starts, but does not load properly

  Hey guys, I've been working on this for a day now and still don't know what's wrong. I am essentially building a second environment for our web and app server. I got apache to load up just fine, but tomcat is proving to be difficult. It appears to start and load just fine, but when it comes to loading our application, its just got stuck for 2-5 minutes and then shut down.   I want to check a svn url and to get the latest revision, then checkout it, I don't want to use HEAD because I will compare the latest revision to others. so I use "svn info" to get the "Last Changed Rev" for the url like this: D:\Project>svn info svn://.../branches/.../path Path: ... • What is the best way to work with large databases in Java depending on context?

  Hi guys. We are trying to figure out the best practice for working with very large DBs in Java. What we do is a kind of BI, i.e analyzing very large DBs, and using them to create intermediate DBs that represent intelligent knowledge of the DBs. We are currently using JDBC, and just preforming queries using a ResultSet. As more and more data is being created, we are wondering whether more appropriate ways exist for parsing and manipulating these large DBs: We need to support 'chunk' manipulation and not an entire DB at once(e.g. limit in JDBC, very poor performance) We do not need to be constantly connected since we are just pulling results and creating new tables of our own. We want to understand JDBC alternatives, with respect to advantages and disadvantages. Whether you think JDBC is the way to go or not, what are the best practices to go by depending on context (e.g. for large DBs queried in chunks) ?   Preliminary notes I'll not go into the distinction of the different kinds of test there are, there are already a few questions on these sites regarding that. I'll take what's there and that says: unit testing in the sense of "testing the smallest isolatable unit of an application" from which this question actually derives The isolation problem What is the smallest isolatable unit of a program. Well, as I see it, it (highly?) depends on what language you are coding in. Micheal Feathers talks about the concept of a seam: [WEwLC, p31] A seam is a place where you can alter behavior in your program without editing in that place. And without going into the details, I understand a seam -- in the context of unit testing -- to be a place in a program where your "test" can interface with your "unit". Examples Unit test -- especially in C++ -- require from the code under test to add more seams that would be strictly called for for a given problem. Example: Adding a virtual interface where non-virtual implementation would have been sufficient Splitting -- generalizing(?) -- a (smallish) class further "just" to facilitate adding a test. Splitting a single-executable project into seemingly "independent" libs, "just" to facilitate compiling them independently for the tests. The question I'll try a few versions that hopefully ask about the same point: Is the way that Unit Tests require one to structure an application's code "only" beneficial for the unit tests or is it actually beneficial to the applications structure. Is the generalization code need to exhibit to be unit-testable useful for anything but the unit tests? Does adding unit tests force one to generalize unnecessarily? Is the shape unit tests force on code "always" also a good shape for the code in general as seen from the problem domain? I remember a rule of thumb that said don't generalize until you need to / until there's a second place that uses the code. With Unit Tests, there's always a second place that uses the code -- namely the unit test. So is this reason enough to generalize?

• Ubuntu One - Files API - Cloud - More detailed info somehwere?

  I am just starting on a mobile app for Ubuntu One, and I'm reviewing the info at https://one.ubuntu.com/developer/files/store_files/cloud I find the information a bit lacking though. It's a nice reference, but for someone not familiar with it, I had to goggle search to find out what a "volume" was exactly (its kind of obvious, but never hurts to know the specifics) There's also things like: GET /api/file_storage/v1/volumes Return a JSON list of Volume Representations, one for each volume. A volume is a synced folder, or the Ubuntu One folder, owned by the user. Note that all volume paths begin with ~.: ... but there's no such thing as a JSON "list". Does it mean array ? And other things... So I was wondering if here existed another page with more detailed information. Maybe some sample request / responses or something? I could just write a little proof of concept app to answer some of these questions... but I prefer not to unless I have to. Thanks

  Hi, I'm trying to pick up Svn.NET (http://www.pumacode.org/projects/svndotnet/) library for use in my Mono project. I tried compiling its mockapp - svnmockapp project (http://www.pumacode.org/projects/svndotnet/browser/trunk/SvnMockApp) , I am able to get the references right and get it compiled right. I understand that it references 2 other modules libapr (libapr-1.so.0) and svn_client (libsvn_client-1.so.0) , by which I've created PumaCode.SvnDotNet.dll.config in /bin/Debug . That is all I've done to tried to try to get the mockapp at least outputting something to show that it is indeed interfacing SVN. Nevertheless, it is not working. Now I need to delete my Ubuntu partition so I could add capacity to my eOS which only has 10Gb. Currently my eOS is in /dev/sda9, and Ubuntu in /dev/sda8/.   I'm building a website in ASP.NET (Web Forms) on top of an engine with business rules (which basically resides in a separate DLL), connected to a database mapped with Entity Framework (in a 3rd, separate project). I designed the Engine first, which has an Entity Framework context, and then went on to work on the website, which presents various reports. I believe I made a terrible design mistake in that the website has its own context (which sounded normal at first). I'm considering: Creating the connection in the Engine and passing it off to the webpage. Always instantiate an Engine, make its context accessible from a property, sharing it. Possible problems: other conflicts? Slow? Concurrency issues if I want to expand to AJAX? Creating the connection from the webpage and passing it off to the Engine (I believe that's dependency injection?) Only talking through ID's. Creates redundancy, not always practical, sounds archaic. But at the same time, I already recuperate stuff from the page as ID's that I need to fetch anyways. What would be best compromise here for safety, ease-of-use and understanding, stability, and speed?

  I have a widget that you press and it then it will update the text on the widget. I have set an on click listener to launch another activity to perform the text update, But for some reason it only works temporarily and then it will become unresponsive and not do anything when pressed. • How can I restore "Open With" context menu item in Windows 7?

  I tried various way to fix this problem but ended up with a dead end. My problem would be the missing "Open With" context menu items (or subitems?). It did not appear even though I hovered it for a minutes or two. Below is a screenshot of the respective right-click menu. Note: The only problem with "Open With" is at the right-click menu (as well as FILE menu). Edited: The "Open With" context submenu that only accessible at the top, while the typical right click menu doesn't work. Repaste from Comment. I don't think it's involved with any windows files because other user in the same computer doesn't affected at all. I can see the "Open With" context submenu. I believe this must have involved with current user's registry. It happens to all files (any file types, except folder). I can only use Open With by clicking at the file and select it manually at the top of Explorer window. (Refer to the link for the screenshot)

In debug mode, I can see that in class xxxController, messageSource is initialized to org.springframework.context.support.ReloadableResourceBundleMessageSource. I have annotated Message class with @Component and xxxHibernateDaoImpl with @Repository. I also included context namespace definition in servlet-context.xml. But in Message class and xxxHibernateDaoImpl class, the messageSource is still null.
