• How do I restore compiz advanced zoom?

  I lost compiz zoom due to some incompatibility that I am not sure about. I read about a fix before, but I forgot what it is. When I try to zoom with the super key and mouse it just vibrates the cursor. After further testing to find the problem, I know it has to be something that is trying to put the pointer to the centre of the screen. Hopefully someone will be able to track down the cause, because so far I cannot. EDIT - I've tried all kinds of options, including resetting all the settings on the plugin, still no change. I can't zoom, even if I change the keys. If it helps, restraining the mouse to the zoom area makes it jump to one side of the screen. Could it be that I have dual outputs that is causing the problem?

• How-to filter table filter input to only allow numeric input

  In a previous ADF Code Corner post, I explained how to change the table filter behavior by intercepting the query condition in a query filter. See sample #30 at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/index-101235.html In this OTN Harvest post I explain how to prevent users from providing invalid character entries as table filter criteria to avoid problems upon re-querying the table. In the example shown next, only numeric values are allowed for a table column filter. To create a table that allows data filtering, drag a View Object – or a data collection of a Web Service or JPA business service – from the DataControls panel and drop it as a table. Choose the Enable Filtering option in the Edit Table Columns dialog so the table renders with the column filter boxes displayed. The table filter fields are created using implicit af:inputText components that need to be customized for you to apply a custom filter input component, or to change the input behavior. To change the input filter, so only a defined set of input keys is allowed, you need to change the default filter field with your own af:inputText field to which you apply an af:clientListener tag that filters user keyboard entries. For this, in the Oracle JDeveloper visual editor, select the column which filter you want to change and expand the column node in the Oracle JDeveloper Structure Window. Part of the column definition is the Column facet node. Expand the facets so you see the filter facet entry. The filter facet is grayed out as there is no custom facet defined. In a next step, open theComponent Palette (ctrl+shift+P) and drag an Input Text component onto the facet. This demarks the first part in the filter customization. To make the custom filter component work, you need to map the af:inputText component value property to the ADF filter criteria that is exposed in the Expression Builder. Open the Expression Builder for the filter input component value property by clicking the arrow icon to its right. In the Expression Builder expand the JSP Objects | vs | filterCriteria node to select the attribute name represented by the table column. The vs entry is the name of a variable that is defined on the table and that grants you access to the table attributes. • Is it possible to get dragging work on a Macbook multi-touch touch pad

  I have a Macbook 5,1. That is to say that it is the only 13 inch aluminium Macbook as the later revisions were renamed Macbook Pro. Two-finger scrolling seems to work fine but dragging doesn't work. In OsX this works so that you point an object, click and keep your finger pressed on the touch pad while slide another finger to move the cursor. This causes weird and undefined behavior in Ubuntu as it seems the driver doesn't recognize this as dragging. Any ideas?

• Super Joybox 5 HID 0925:8884 not recognized as joystick in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

  Problem: When using the "Super JoyBox 5" 4 port playstation 2 to USB adapter, the device is not recognized as a joystick. there is no js0 created, but instead another input eventX and mouseX are created in /dev/input. When using the directional buttons (up down left right) on a Playstation 1 controller attached to the device, the mouse cursor moves to the top, bottom, left, and right edges of the screen respectively. Buttons are unresponsive. The joypads attached to the device cannot be used in any games or other programs. Attempted remedies: Creating a symlink from the eventX to js0 does not solve the problem. Addl Info: joydev is loaded and running peroperly according to LSMOD. evtest can be run on the created eventX (sudo evtest /dev/input/event14 in my case) and the buttons and axes all register inputs. Aparently, this device used to work flawlessly on kernel 2.4.x systems, and even as late as ubunto 10.04. Perhaps the Joydev rules for identifying joypads has changed? Currently, this kind of bug is affecting a few different type of controller adapters, but since this is the one that i PERSONALLY have (and has been driving me my own special brand of crazy), its the one im documenting. What i think should be happening instead: The device should be registering js0 through js3, one for each port, or JS0 that will handle all of the connected devices with different numbered axes for each connected joypad. Either way, it should work as a joystick and stop controlling the mouse cursor. Please help!

• Does it make sense to use ORM in Android development?

  Does it make sense to use an ORM in Android development or is the framework optimized for a tighter coupling between the UI and the DB layer? Background: I've just started with Android development, and my first instinct (coming from a .net background) was to look for a small object-relational mapper and other tools that help reduce boilerplate clode (e.g. POJOs + OrmLite + Lombok). However, while developing my first toy application I stumbled upon a UI class that explicitly requires a database cursor: AlphabetIndexer. That made me wonder if maybe the Android library is not suited for a strict decoupling of UI and DB layer and that I will miss out on a lot of useful, time-saving features if I try to use POJOs everywhere (instead of direct database access). Clarification: I'm quite aware of the advantages of using ORM in general, I'm specifically interested in how well the Android class library plays along with it.

• Bug in firefox address bar autocomplete running on KDE

  Has anyone experienced this graphical glitch when typing in Firefox address bar? The drop-down list is not drawn correctly, with some "blocks" missing. After typing more letters or hovering the mouse cursor, the list redraws itself and becomes complete. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04, Firefox 13.0.1 and this only happens in KDE (tested with 4.8.2, 4.8.3 and 4.8.4). It does not happen in Unity or Xfce with the same user profile. If I go to the KDE control panel and disable the Fade effect, the bug starts to happen to almost every menu in the system, including, the taskbar window previews. Enabling the “Fade” effect corrects the bug everywhere except in Firefox. I have an Nvidia card and I am using the proprietary driver (current, not current-updates -- not sure about the difference), but the linked question on an Arch Linux forum says this happen with the open source driver and with other cards too. Does anyone have an idea for a solution?

  I've just bought, installed Sword and Sworcery via the Software Centre. When I run it, the screen goes black, the cursor changes and then all reverts back to normal. • Unable to boot Windows 7 after installing Ubuntu to MacBook with OS X & Windows 7 (bootcamp)

  I had Lion OSX partitioned with Windows 7 using BootCamp [on my MacBook]. I downloaded and installed Ubuntu last night and it went well. Until this morning when I tried to boot up Windows 7 and it took me to Ubuntu instead. I saw the windows 7 loader so I clicked on that. It brought me to a black screen with a white cursor in the top left. This is what windows usually looks like when it boots but this time it just stayed on the black screen. I also tried holding option and choosing the windows drive manually but it brought me back to Ubuntu. I think what happened was that I did not click on the Windows 7 loader when installing Ubuntu 12.04 last night. What can I do to fix this?

• Can't boot Ubuntu 12.04

  I installed 12.04 on my windows vista laptop. I wanted to make run Ubuntu and ditch windows. I selected to delete disk and install 12.04. It won't let boot 12.04 with out the install disk. When I turn on my laptop now it goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor. I have to power off then insert Ubuntu 12.04 cd as if it wants me to reinstall. I checked the drive and Ubuntu is there with some of my other saves as well. Can someone help me please?

  I’m new to blogging.  This is the second blog post that I have written, and before I go too much further I wanted the readers of my blog to know a bit more about me… Kid’s Stuff By trade, I am a programmer (or coder, developer, engineer, architect, etc).  I started programming when I was 12 years old.  When I was 7, we got our first ‘family’ computer – an Apple IIc.  It was great to play games on, and of course what else was a 7-year-old going to do with it.  I did have one problem with it, though.  When I put in my 5.25” floppy to play a game, sometimes, instead loading my game I would get a mysterious ‘]’ on the screen with a flashing cursor.  This, of course, was not my game.  Much like the standard ‘Microsoft fix’ is to reboot, back then you would take the floppy out, shake it, and restart the computer and pray for a different result. One day, I learned at school that I could topple my nemesis – the ‘]’ and flashing cursor – by typing ‘load’ and pressing enter.  Most of the time, this would load my game and then I would get to play.  Problem solved.  However, I began to wonder – what else can I make it do? When I was in 5th grade my dad got a bright idea to buy me a Tandy 1000HX.  He didn’t know what I was going to do with it, and neither did I.  Least of all, my mom wasn’t happy about buying a 5th grader a $1,000 computer.  Nonetheless, Over time, I learned how to write simple basic programs out of the back of my Math book: 10 x=5 20 y=6 30 PRINT x+y That was fun for all of about 5 minutes.  I needed more – more challenges, more things that I could make the computer do.  In order to quench this thirst my parents sent me to National Computer Camps in Connecticut.  It was one of the best experiences of my childhood, and I spent 3 weeks each summer after that learning BASIC, Pascal, Turbo C and some C++.  There weren’t many kids at the time who knew anything about computers, and lets just say my knowledge of and interest in computers didn’t score me many ‘cool’ points.  My experiences at NCC set me on the path that I find myself on now, and I am very thankful for the experience.  Real Life I have held various positions in the past at different levels within the IT layer cake.  I started out as a Software Developer for a startup in the Dallas, TX area building software for semiconductor testing statistical process control and sampling.  I was the second Java developer that was hired, and the ninth employee overall, so I got a great deal of experience developing software.  Since there weren’t that many people in the organization, I also got a lot of field experience which meant that if I screwed up the code, I got yelled at (figuratively) by both my boss AND the customer.  Fun Times!  What made it better was that I got to help run pilot programs in Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Malta.  Getting yelled at in Taiwan is slightly less annoying that getting yelled at in Dallas… I spent the next 5 years at Accenture doing systems integration in the ‘SOA’ group.  I joined as a Consultant and left as a Senior Manager.  I started out writing code in WebLogic Integration and left after I wrapped up project where I led a team of 25 to develop the next generation of a digital media platform to deliver HD content in a digital format.  At Accenture, I had the pleasure of working with some truly amazing people – mentoring some and learning from many others – and on some incredible real-world IT projects.  Given my background with the BEA stack of products I was often called in to troubleshoot and tune WebLogic, ALBPM and ALSB installations and have logged many hours digging through thread dumps, running performance tests with SoapUI and decompiling Java classes we didn’t have the source for so I could see what was going on in the code. I am now a Senior Principal Product Manager at Oracle in the Application Grid practice.  The term ‘Application Grid’ refers to a collection of software and hardware products within Oracle that enables customers to build horizontally scalable systems.  This collection of products includes WebLogic, GlassFish, Coherence, Tuxedo and the JRockit/HotSpot JVMs (HotSprocket, maybe?).  Now, with the introduction of Exalogic it has grown to include hardware as well. Wrapping it up… I love technology and have a diverse background ranging from software development to HW and network architecture & tuning.  I have held certifications for being an Oracle Certified DBA, MSCE and Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), among others and I have put those to great use over my career.  I am excited about programming & technology and I enjoy helping people learn and be successful.  If you are having challenges with WebLogic, BPM or Service Bus feel free to reach out to me and I’ll be happy to help as I have time. • 12.04: Having problem with REISUB

  Often my ubuntu freezes up altogether(only able to move my cursor). So i try to reboot using the keys "ALT+PrntScrn+REISUB", but this is what happens Once i finish hitting the keys RE, my screen goes BLACK and it shows up a few lines of commands (or whatever) which I dont understand. I have no other choice other than manually force shut down (by pressing power button for 3-4 seconds) Here is a screenshot of what my black screen displays as soon as I hit R,E What do these lines mean? Is there anyway I can safely restart my PC? (Since i was unable to use printscreen, i had to manually take a snap of my monitor using my camera. I had taken 3 pictures of the same screen, because I could not capture the entire text displayed on my screen in a single click)

• Unity Bar auto-hide behaviour and application icons placement

  The first issue: It seems that sometimes when I hover to the left edge of the screen the Unity Bar will not stay on top of other windows even if I continue to hover the cursor above it, at other times it will stay on top. Is this a normal behaviour? Or am I affected by some bug / inconsistency? If it's normal, what's the logic behind it? The second issue: Application icons for running applications do not maintain their position in the Unity Bar but instead move around according to some weird rules (if any?) that I can't understand. Is this to be expected, or is it a bug? Is there a way to force them to stop moving around? I like to see certain apps in certain positions and this bothers me.

• PyGame QIX clone, filling areas

  I'm playing around with PyGame. Now I'm trying to implement a QIX clone. I have my game loop, and I can move the player (cursor) on the screen. In QIX, the movment of the player leaves a trace (tail) on the screen, creating a polyline. If the polyline with the screen boundaries creates a polygon, the area is filled. How I can accomplish this behaviour ? How store the tail in memory ? How to detect when it build a closed shape that should be filled ? I don't need an exact working solution, some pointers, algo names would be cool.

  I use Ubuntu 11.04 Alpha in daily use and yesterday I've made an upgrade (apt-get dist-upgrade) after restart, I could not access to the desktop. Just the wallpaper and cursor... I've tried to open it in safe mode, but no luck. Before sending a bug report for this problem, Id like to know some things: 1) Which logs I should consider before sending a bug report? I think this issue is related to updated X.org or Unity desktop files 2) Is there any CLI way to turn my Unity desktop back to the classic one? Thanks.

• 13.10 hangs on waking from suspend except when suspended from console

  I know waking from suspend is an issue, but this looks like a separate bug. When I suspend 13.10 on HP Pavillion dv6 (AMD 6770M/fglrx 13.10.10) from x, it suspends normally but freezes when waking. I get a black screen with a frozen cursor. But when I suspend from console with sudo pm-suspend, it wakes normally, and I can then get back my x with ctrl-alt-f7. If I suspend by closing lid under x, also freezes when waking up. If I suspend by closing lid under console, it wakes up into the x (?) login, then into a clean session.

• Why does my Ubuntu freeze in the middle of something with a blank screen?

  I am facing a serious problem as my Dell Optiplex 745 loaded with Ubuntu 12.04 32bit freezes with a blank screen no mouse cursor no keyboard activity in many occasions. Sometimes when I open firefox, or software center, I really can't tell what the main problem is, but what i am certain about is it i have to do a hard reset to reboot. I tried to use a live-cd to boot but it did the same, tried the recovery console but couldn't find a way to fix from there (I am a new user) suspected a hardware problem but windows runs flawlessly so I believe its something related to ubuntu. Specs: Intel Celeron D 3.06 GHZ 3.0 GB ram Intel built in graphics Q965 1 TB HDD Bios Phoenex 2.6.4 Please help I really love ubuntu and I don't want to go back to windows!

• I can't get Ubuntu installation to start

  I have a computer with the following configuration: AZUS Sabertooth Motherboard Intel I5 2500 CPU Windows 7 installed I'm trying to install linux. I first attempted to install pin guy. I burned the ISO, booted from it, got the initial menu; attempting to either run the live version from DVD, or install to system. However the process stops at a blank screen with the blinking cursor in left corner. So I downloaded Ubuntu and got the same results. Then I tried wubi and ended up in the same position. EDIT: UEFI might be part of the problem?   I need to know how can I enable mouse click on a button when I have a MouseEvent listener for the stage. I have a MClip associated with the mouse cursor: Mouse.hide(); scope.startDrag(true); And an MouseEnvet on the stage: stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, FunctionXYZ); When I try to click on any button they don't assume the function that I create for those buttons... for example, button for fullscreen, exit, help, etc... • System crash when trying to drag cells in LibreOffice Calc

  Some time after upgrady to Saucy I noticed several freezes and crashes when simply trying to drag content of selected cells to another place in LibreOffice Calc (version 4.1.2.3 from repository). The system stops responding - although for example Clementine still plays music from playlist - I am not able to do anything with the mouse (cursor is able to move, but no reaction on clicking). Did anybody of you also have this problem and if yes, do you have a solution? I tried to completely remove LibreOffice and install them again but did not worked for me. Currently avoiding use of drag and drop in Calc but it is stupid. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

• ubuntu server 12.04 new installation does not boot

  I've just installed server 12.04 on a new machine. It's got two network cards and two hard drives. During installation it asked me if I wanted to make it RAID and I said ok to that. Finally, it came to the packages options and I chose things like Samba, LAMP, etc. And then it asked to reboot without the CD. Did that and that's where the problem started. Nothing comes on the screen. Only a blinking cursor. Has anyone experienced this problem? I'm guessing that it may be a RAID issue. Not sure. Any thoughts please...

• Can't boot Ubuntu 12.10 32 or 64 Bit, only Ubuntu 12.04 32 Bit [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: My computer boots to a black screen, what options do I have to fix it? i tried to install Ubuntu 12.04 64Bit, 12.10 32 and 64Bit, but it doesn't work. I'm used the Ubuntu 12.04 32Bit Start Disc Creator and also Unetboot on Win7, the installation-process are finished and i restart without the Stick. I can choose for example 12.10 and it starts writing "start ... [OK], ...", but then it hangs most on "Stop Kernel Messages [OK]". Then i can only shutdown normal the system and it writes stopping, shutdown and something like that. I am use an Aspire One D270 Netbook with Intel Atom N2600. It also doesn't work to try Ubuntu 12.10 from running on USB Stick. It starts, but then its black and the cursor blink on the left upside. Please can you help me? :(
