• Installing Django/Python on IIS6

  We are currently installing the latest version of Django and Python on IIS6. We have followed the instructions on the following site: http://code.djangoproject.com/wiki/DjangoOnWindowsWithIISAndSQLServer We are receiving a 403 error when trying to access our Django application via the IIS server. We have verified the python installation on IIS6 and it is working properly. We have also verified the Django installation. Our application runs fine under the built-in Django server, but we are having difficulties getting it to run under IIS. We presume we could be getting errors from "Linking Django to PyISAPIe" section of the instructions provided on the link above. Thanks.

  I'm looking to implement a RESTful interface for a Django application. It is primarily a data-service application - the interface will be (at this point) read-only. The question is which Django toolsets / frameworks make the most sense for this task. I see Django-rest and Django-piston. There's also the option of rolling my own. The question was asked here, but a good two years back. I'd like to know what the current state of play is. In this question, circa 2008, the strong majority vote was to not use any framework at all - just create Django views that reply with e.g. JSON. (The question was also addressed, crica 2008, here.) In the current landscape, what makes the most sense?

• HTML Form Upload PDF with other form contents using PHP

  I have a HTML form with fields such as name, address, notes, etc. I also have a field to upload a PDF. The uploaded PDF get's stored on the file system. How can I accomplish this if possibly the PDF files are larger than 2 MBs? Also, for some reason, the uploading of the PDF (< 2 MBs) works fine in Chrome, but not in IE. In IE, the upload doesn't even begin, but in Chrome, it completes fine.   I have an image uploader that uses the imgur.com API and jQuery's .ajax() function to upload images to their servers. However, if I browse for an image using the <input type="file"/> element of the form, it will only be successful in uploading an image if the image file is found in the same directory as the page.php file that the form is found in (shown below). • creating my own context processor in django

  Hay, I have come to a point where i need to pass certain variables to all my views (mostly custom authentication type variables). I was told writing my own context processor was the best way to do this, but i am having some issues. My settings file looks like this TEMPLATE_CONTEXT_PROCESSORS = ( "django.contrib.auth.context_processors.auth", "django.core.context_processors.debug", "django.core.context_processors.i18n", "django.core.context_processors.media", "django.contrib.messages.context_processors.messages", "sandbox.context_processors.say_hello", ) As you can see i have a module called 'context_processors' and a function within that called 'say_hello'. This looks like def say_hello(request): return { 'say_hello':"Hello", } Am i right to assume i can now do this within my views {{ say_hello }} because it doesn't return anything.

• FileReference and HttpService Browse Image Modify it then Upload it

  Hello, I am trying to do an image uploader, user can: - browse local file with button.browse - select one and save it as a FileReference. - then we do FileReference.load() then bind the data to our image control. - after we make a rotation on it and change the data of image. - and to finish we upload it to a server. To change the data of image i get the matrix of the displayed image and transform it then i re-use the new matrix and bind it to my old image: private function TurnImage():void { //Turn it var m:Matrix = _img.transform.matrix; rotateImage(m); _img.transform.matrix = m; } Now the mater is that i really don't know how to send the data as a file to my server cause its not stored in the FileReference and data inside FileReference is readOnly so we can't change it or create a new, so i can't use .upload();. Then i tried HttpService.send but i can't figure out how you send a file and not a mxml.

• Sharing Jinja2 templates between Pylons and Django applications

  I'm writing a couple of Jinja2 templates that basically implement some common grid layouts. I'd like to be able to share this 'library' of templates between a Pylons app and Django app. I've hit a minor stumbling block in that Django's template context is accessible from the "top-level" of the template, whereas Pylons wraps your context inside the thread local c (or tmpl_context) variable. Here are some analogous examples that demonstrate this. Django from django.shortcuts import render_to_response ctx = {} ctx['name'] = 'John' return render_to_response('hello.html', ctx) hello.html: Hello {{ name }} Pylons from pylons import tmpl_context as c from myapp.lib.base import render c.name = 'John' return render('hello.html') hello.html: Hello {{ c.name }} What I'm trying to do is make it so that hello.html is the same across both frameworks. One way I see to do it is by wrapping the Django render_to_response and do something like this: ctx['c'] = ctx But that just doesn't feel right. Anybody see other alternatives to this? Thanks

• Slow PDF upload for Confluence

  We run a site that we host that uses the Atlassian Confluence. The site works great and is being used now. But there is one thing. It seems like when pdf and gifs are uploaded the upload speed will be slower. But the smaller files will upload fine. Has anyone else having an issue with uploading pdf's into confluence? I am trying to use fiddler to track the speed but am not having luck with that. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

• Windows 7 ssh file server.

  Hello all- I have looked at the other posts, but have not quite found an answer I have a question about windows file sharing over SSH. I have copssh installed and it is working for Remote desktop connections. I have port 22 forwarded on my router etc. I connect from a Mac or Putty with this address: ssh -l copsshusername 3391:localhost:3389 [external ip] That works fine. I would like to configure Windows 7 to allow my ssh account that I use to login, access to certain shared folders. I have documents and videos and things that I would like to be able to download externally. I have done this before on Linux and a long time ago on XP, but I cannot figure out what I am missing on Windows 7. There is a designated SSH user that copssh uses to run the service and that I use to to login as. I have googled and googled and have not found a solution that does everything I need that is why I am turning here for ideas. I hope I am explaining this correctly. • Automatic upload of 10KB file to web service?

  I am writing an application, similar to Seti@Home, that allows users to run processing on their home machine, and then upload the result to the central server. However, the final result is maybe a 10K binary file. (Processing to achieve this output is several hours.) What is the simplest reliable automatic method to upload this file to the central server? What do I need to do server-side to prevent blocking? Perhaps having the client send mail is simple and reliable? NB the client program is currently written in Python, if that matters.

  hi, i have seen all the upload progress bar plugins , widgets, etc. they all suck. their either too bulky with too much useless code or they dont work. what i want to know is where can i read up on how to display an easy upload progress indicator. most browsers have a status progress bar on them below but it isnt very professional to use just that when dealing with clients. how does the browser do it? i want to know the internals of how the browser work with indication a status of something uploading and maybe i can make something using php & jquery. thanks

I have made changes in the html file for the compact display of the image by defining "max-height" and "max-width". But i want to resize the image file on upload. The image file may have a maximum width of 100px and maximum height of 150px. The image proportions must be constrained.   I currently have a dotcloud app that uses django to serve everything. It works great, however, we recently had our site redone in angular.js, and I don't want to use django to serve the actual html pages (I want to just use nginx for that), but I want django to serve some links for the API we built for the angular code to use. Is it possible for me, in the same app, to configure nginx to serve some static files for particular urls, and have it send other urls for django to serve? I want nginx to serve my index.html page is a request comes in to wwww.example.com, but if a request for example.com/api/login/ comes in, I want that to be handled by django. Is this possible?

  I want a plugin for joomla like jforms or chronoforms in order to make a form to upload videos along with other custom fields to db and manage them. The only problem is I want this functionality to be made from inside the administrator console and not to appear on a page at my site's frontend. My site does not have a login service , so I need to make the admin able to login to administration panel and from there to upload and manage videos.   I'm learning Python and decided to start familiarizing myself with the (defacto?) Python web framework - django. I have successfully installed the latest release of django. I want a simple 'hello world' website that will get me up and running quickly. I am already familiar with web frameworks (albeit for different languages) - so I just need a simple 'hello world' example website to help me get going. Ideally, I don't want to mess up with my Apache server settings (as I am still experimenting), so I want to use the lightweight web server that django bundles. I cant seem to find how to do this on the django website though - no doubt someone will post a link and shame me ... So, does anyone know of a link that shows how to get a simple 'hello world' django website up and running with minimal fuss?

• Check something before django server starts

  I am running my api behind a django server and say I have a one time token that is needed by the django application and used through out its existence until the process quits. To check if I can proceed and serve requests (using the django server) I need to validate this token against a database entry. Now, I can have a script that hits the db, then issues the run server command if the token is valid. But if the db used by the django applications change, I will have to change the script also to point to the same db. Is there a way I can pass this token into the runserver command as an additional parameter (along with hostname:port) and validate this before django serves any requests? How can I access this parameter that is sent into ./manage.py runserver. Thanks.

  I'm currently trying to upload an image from my Mac application to Facebook. To do this, I'd like for the user to simply input his username and password, and to click a button. The only issue is, Facebook doesn't actually have an API for the Mac, it only has one for iOS. This shouldn't be a problem, except for the fact that to login, you must use a web view, something I'm not to keen on doing, since I'd like the interface to be two simple text fields. I've also looked into PHFacebook, a class I found online, but it also seems to utilize an NSWebView. I'm wondering if there's a security issue when you use text fields; indeed, it's slightly strange no available API offers this function ! So, to conclude, is it possible, or is there an API, that lets you upload an image and lets you provide the user's credentials through simple NSStrings?

• Android: writing a file to sdcard

  I'm trying to write a file from an Http post reply to a file on the sdcard. Everything works fine until the byte array of data is retrieved. I've tried setting WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission in the manifest and tried many different combinations of tutorials I found on the net. All I could find was using the openFileOutput("",MODE_WORLD_READABLE) method, of the activity but how my app writes file is by using a thread. Specifically, a thread is invoked from another thread when a file has to be written, so giving an activity object didn't work even though I tried it. The app has come a long way and I cannot change how the app is currently written. Please, someone help me?   I have been using Visual Studio for quite some time now, in fact from the VS 2005 version. Right now, I am not only comfortable but addict to using it(VS 2010) for all my development needs. Recently I have been learning Python and Django. In that getting the tutorial tasks up and running with IDLE seems very lame and outdated(I am following the Django Book). Therefore, I downloaded and configured Eclipse & PyDev. Eclipse seems good and fine but needs a bit of learning curve for itself. So, I am looking for a way to configure Visual Studio 2010 for Python and Django development if possible. Please tell me if that's possible and How ?

• Forward Apache to Django dev server

  I'm trying to get apache to forward all requests on port 80 to 127.0.0.1:8000, which is where the django dev server runs. I think I have it forwarding properly, but there must be an issue with 127.0.0.1:8000 not being run by apache? I'm running the django dev server in an ubuntu vmware instance, and I'd other people in the office to see the apps in development without having to promote anything to our actual dev/staging servers. Right now the virtual machine picks up an IP for itself, and when I point a browser to that url with the defualt apache config, I get the default apache page. I've since changed the httpd.conf file to the following to try and get it to forward the requests to the django dev server: ServerName localhost <Proxy *> Order deny,allow Allow from all </Proxy> <VirtualHost *> ServerName localhost ServerAdmin [email protected] ProxyRequests off ProxyPass * http://127.0.0.1:8000 </VirtualHost> All I get are 404s with this, and in error.log I get the following (192.168.1.101 is the IP of my computer 192.168.1.142 is the IP of the virtual machine): [Mon Mar 08 08:42:30 2010] [error] [client 192.168.1.101] File does not exist: /htdocs
