• Sometimes new windows don't come to the front when launched

  I'm using gnome shell with new ubuntu for few days now and have experienced really annoying behaviour with new windows. Sometimes when I use another window and press e.g. Alt Ctrl T to open new terminal window, I don't get this window being brought to front. Instead I get notification at the bottom that "New terminal window is ready to use". The same is with Pidgin being integrated with gnome shell (via extension). Every time I get new message, window pops up but doesn't show. I need to either Alt Tab it or click the notification. Is there any way to have new windows being always brought to front, and remove those annoying "Window is ready" notifications? • Gnome 3 freezes when switching workspaces

  I have found an odd problem with Gnome 3 on Ubuntu recently. Under certain circumstances, when switching between two workspaces the whole desktop and user interface will 'freeze' for anything up to 2 minutes; during this time I cannot click anything or interact using the keyboard. Often, the screen will show a 'half-completed' animation of the workspace swapper. This is on Ubuntu 12.04.1 running on a 2-year old Macbook Pro, and it only seems to occur when using an external monitor. This does not seem to be a processor or memory issue, and does not occur every time I switch workspaces. Is this a known problem? What can I do in the short or long term to fix it?

• Sudden crash with gnome and unity

  I've a Toshiba Satellite Pro U400 with Ubuntu 11.10. Very often when I'm working on the pc reboots itself, or close all programs and return to the login screen. This is very annoying, often I lose my job I'm doing, sometimes I make bad figures while projecting slides or movies in public. What happens is that with Unity 3 with Gnome, so I do not depend on these. I also checked the log files but with little success because I can not interpret them the best. Can you help me solve this serious problem? thanks. Roberto

  I am new to JME3 game engine but I know Android XML GUI layouts pretty good. I have a simple layout here and I cant figure out what is wrong. • How to open the terminal? (Mis-configured the profile)

  I am quite new to Ubuntu. (I started to use Ubuntu about a year ago, but I don't know how to use things like terminal well. All I used by console was easy things like ls or cd, to use gcc.) Today, I found 'profile' property of the terminal, and I created a new profile. Then, I changed some properties like font color and opacity. Soon, I found something like 'command', and for test, I set that to ls. I closed and re-opened the terminal. However, the terminal terminates right after it appeared. I soon remembered that there was option like 'close right after the command is executed'. Therefore, I can't use Gnome Terminal D: ... I found Konsole at Ubuntu software center, but that's just not my style (especially cursor, its position is little weird...). Question : How to change the profile of Gnome Terminal, without opening it?

• Address Book Authentication

  I just upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04.1 and run Gnome Shell. I am consistently getting a pop up window prompting me for my Gmail address book authentication. The window pops up the moment I type something into gnome shell after hitting the super key. I'm assuming that Ubuntu wants to search my address book for people to include in the search. I have opened up the settings and deleted my account from the online accounts section and rebooted, nothing seems to stop the popup. Where is it getting my email address from? Most importantly, how to I stop this super annoying popup from appearing?

• I have to add Weather extension in my gnome3 toolbar

  I want to add a weather extension to my gnome3 toolbar but I cant get anything working. I am using ubuntu 12.10 with gnome3. I tryed to add this sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/gnome3 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install gnome-shell-extensions-weather but the last command doest work it says that it cant locate such file. I installed this https://launchpad.net/weather-indicator. But I cant seem to get it to show on the gnome toolbar. It only shows here http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/4108/weatherhl.png. When I use the command: sudo apt-get update it shows this error: E: Malformed line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/canonical_partner.list (dist parse) E: The list of sources could not be read. I have seen How do I remove a malformed line from my sources.list?, but it didn't help.

• Triple Monitor Setup with Nvidia and Compiz

  I have a triple monitor setup with two video cards on Ubuntu 10.04. I have the monitors and graphics cards currently setup as follows: Nvidia Geforce 210 #1 - 1920x1080 Monitor (Twinview) [Center - Monitor #1] - 1920x1080 Monitor (Twinview) [Right - Monitor #2] Nvidia Geforce 210 #2 - 1920x1080 Monitor (Separate X Screen) [Left - Monitor #3] This works fine, except when I open a program, it shows up in between monitor #1 and #2 - meaning I have to drag it to one screen before I can use the window. Gnome2's gnome-panel also does not work on the twinview setup; it spans between both monitors, but it does not redraw (ex: the clock never changes). In addition, when I maximize an application, it spans both monitors, which is not acceptable. When I enable Xinerama for my setup, gnome-panel no longer spans two monitors, and applications maximize as expected, but compiz does not work, as X11 compositing is not available. The lack of desktop compositing causes problems with dragging windows between screens (redraws take forever). Is there anything I can do to fix these issues without opting for different graphics cards?

• Can't get sync with SVN to work to put a directory under version control

  I've created a directory on our SVN server and added a local directory with my project to it. It got uploaded and seems to be OK. However, I didn't get those cute green (or any others) icons on the file. So I clicked on the project's directory and used "checkout". That wasn't good because I've downloaded ALL of the repository. How can I synchronize my uploaded directory with it's corresponding directory on the server? (It's probably something easy that I've forgot to check in or so...)

• Why does Evolution give me multiple reminders for the same event?

  I have a bunch of calendars on my Google Calendar account (school & work, personal, etc.), so I have Evolution subscribed to each one of those calendars. When I get a notification for an upcoming (recurring) event, I actually get many notifications for the same event, all at the same time. For example, just now I got 21 notifications for one event. I am using Gnome Shell, where the message tray displays event notifications in its own way. I get the same behaviour on my other computer, also running Ubuntu 11.10 with Gnome Shell. (And it has happened running Unity where Evolution only shows its dialog window with event reminders, but I'm not sure if it has happened quite as intensely). Does someone know why this is happening, and maybe how to fix it? It would be cool to get slightly less panic-inducing event reminders :)

• apt-get -f install removed software center and several other files

  I ran sudo apt-get -f install and several files and programs were removed including software center. Is there a way to re-download everything as if ubuntu was new again without a cd? This computer does not have a cd-rom drive. I'd be fine with losing all the data on this computer. Also, when I run sudo apt-get install (almost anything) I get errors about dependencies and files not being available. Thanks to anyone who can help.

I thought due to inheritance uc3 would instantiate but looks like I am missing a step. page_load event of uc2 doesn't fire either.

• How to record tv to network share with Windows Media Center?

  Well, you would think that Windows 7's new MediaCenter would be up to the task of recording your TV to a network share/drive. Too bad, it looks like it's just not possible. I have a windows 2008 R2 server, and a Windows 7 machine with a TV card. Since my server has 2TB of storage, it would be nice to record directly to it's networked drive. (I mounted it as Z:). I tried the following: Selecting it in Media Center Itself: Not working. Not available. Editing the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\Recording , setting RecordPath to Z:\TV. Not working. Editing the registry: setting RecordPath to \\server\TV. Not working. Creating a Symlink (mklink \D) to Z:\TV and \\server\TV and setting that in the registry as RecordPath. Currently I am out of options. I could ofcourse Install Windows7 on my server, but I have no license for that, and my windows 2008 r2 is free from dreamspark. Are there people that are succesfully recording to a networked drive/storage? edit I also need to mention that I need to be able to acces the stored files from other PC's, like my laptop. So iSCSI is great for recording, but it looks like you can't access iSCSI devices from multiple PC's. Looks like sharing a iSCSI device is out of the question, so: Are there workarounds to get this thing recording to my network drive?

• Session Variable Not Being Saved When Using Wizard Control ASP.NET

  I have a wizard control. When someone clicks a button within the wizard control I automatically advance to the next step (rather than forcing them to click next). However, this seems to cause the session state variable not to be saved. I've done some research and noticed that Response.Redirect does hard redirects that truncate page execution - and that you can add a false parameter to prevent this...what I'm wondering is if the wizard control is doing the same thing and if so, if I can add a parameter to this as well? There are to be a series of elements to this form that require various styles applied to them. Ideally I'd like the VS 2005/2008 properties interface to be able to apply the CSSClass as it does at the control level, i.e. with a dropdown list of available CSS Clases. • In search of opinions on web based version control systems

  Hi. Researching various open source, web-based document management/version control systems. I've checked google/questions here, etc... I'm looking for a lightweight web-based (apache) document mgmt/version control app that runs on top of SVN. I need to have the ability to: have multiple users checkin/checkout have a workflow (when userA checks the file in, and finishes the app passes it to the next person, etc... the app needs to allow me to have a structure where the files can be moved as a group. the files will be changed on a monthly basis app needs to have a access/premission control system. some people can see certain files, and perform certain actions on the files I imagine that I'm going to have 40-50 people dealing with the different files. I imagine that I'm going to have 2000-3000 files that have to be massaged. I'd prefer that the app be php based if possible, as opposed to a straight java app. Thanks

  Hi All I have what I consider to be a pretty unique problem here, and no idea how to implement. From what I've seen, there is no documentation, tutorials, samples and/or articles on this. I've spent weeks researching, with nothing to show. The problem: I need the user to be able to select the contents of a Label Control at runtime, and edit it. If this can be done by extending the existing Label control, great! Or, if this requires a whole new Label Control to be created, fine. So be it. Using a TextBox is not an option I'm afraid. The result looks something like this: TreeViewNode1 Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 TreeViewNode2 Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 All of the TreeView Nodes are collapsable so that you can view only the nodes you want to. I am looking to implement this, but it doesn't seem to be a .net control. Does anyone know of a control which already exists that allows this? It has to be free (as in beer).
