  • How to get forkpty to handle redirection and other bash-isms?

    - by Jeremy Friesner
Hi all, I've got a GUI C++ program that takes a shell command from the user, calls forkpty() and execvp() to execute that command in a child process, while the parent (GUI) process reads the child process's stdout/stderr output and displays it in the GUI. This all works nicely (under Linux and MacOS/X). For example, if the user enters "ls -l /foo", the GUI will display the contents of the /foo folder. However, bash niceties like output redirection aren't handled. For example, if the user enters "echo bar /foo/bar.txt", the child process will output the text "bar /foo/bar.txt", instead of writing the text "bar" to the file "/foo/bar.txt". Presumably this is because execvp() is running the executable command "echo" directly, instead of running /bin/bash and handing it the user's command to massage/preprocess. My question is, what is the correct child process invocation to use, in order to make the system behave exactly as if the user had typed in his string at the bash prompt? I tried wrapping the user's command with a /bin/bash invocation, like this: /bin/bash -c the_string_the_user_entered, but that didn't seem to work. Any hints?

  • How to do a javascript redirection to a ClickOnce deployment URL?

    - by jerem
I have a ClickOnce application used to view some documents on a website. When connected, the user sees a list of documents as links to http://server/myapp.application?document=docname. It worked fine until I had to integrate the website authentication/security system into my application. The website uses a ticketing system to grant access to its users. A ticket is generated by a web application and needs to be added to the deployment URL querystring, then I have to check at application startup that the ticket given in querystring was right by making another request to the web application. So the deployment URL becomes something like: h ttp://server/myapp.application?document=docname&ticket=ticketnumber. The problem is the ticket is valid only 10 seconds, so I have to get it only after the user has clicked a link. My first try was to have some javascript do the request to get the ticket, generate the proper deployment URL and then redirect the user to this URL with "window.location = deploymentUrl;". It works fine in Firefox, but IE does not prompt the user for installation. I guess it is a ClickOnce security constraints, but I am able to do the redirection when doing it on localhost, so I hope there is a workaround. I have also added the server on the "trusted sites" list in IE options. Is it possible to have that working in IE? What are my other options to do that?

  • JRE not working on firefox

    - by user1488595
I am attempting to get JRE 7 run in firefox in ubuntu 12.04, 32 bit. I've tried to follow this article: www.liberiangeek.net/2012/04/install-oracle-java-runtime-jre-7-in-ubuntu-12-04-precise-pangolin/ . I've also tried this repository: www.webupd8.org/2012/06/how-to-install-oracle-java-7-in-debian.html As well as installing JDK, which contains JRE, by following this article: www.liberiangeek.net/2012/04/install-oracle-java-jdk-7-in-ubuntu-12-04-precise-pangolin/ With all above method of installation, I get the following error in firefox console when I run applet with firefox: java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "/usr/lib/jvm/jre1.7.0/bin/java": error=13, Permission denied at java.lang.ProcessBuilder.start(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.jvm.JVMLauncher.start(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMInstance.startImpl(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMInstance.start(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMManager.getOrCreateBestJVMInstance(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMManager.startAppletImpl(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMManager.startApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMManager.startApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.MozillaPlugin.maybeStartApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.MozillaPlugin.setWindow(Unknown Source) Caused by: java.io.IOException: error=13, Permission denied at java.lang.UNIXProcess.forkAndExec(Native Method) at java.lang.UNIXProcess.(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ProcessImpl.start(Unknown Source) ... 10 more java.io.IOException at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMInstance.startImpl(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMInstance.start(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMManager.getOrCreateBestJVMInstance(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMManager.startAppletImpl(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMManager.startApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMManager.startApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.MozillaPlugin.maybeStartApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.MozillaPlugin.setWindow(Unknown Source) Caused by: java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "/usr/lib/jvm/jre1.7.0/bin/java": error=13, Permission denied at java.lang.ProcessBuilder.start(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.jvm.JVMLauncher.start(Unknown Source) ... 8 more Caused by: java.io.IOException: error=13, Permission denied at java.lang.UNIXProcess.forkAndExec(Native Method) at java.lang.UNIXProcess.(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ProcessImpl.start(Unknown Source) ... 10 more Exception in thread "main" java.lang.RuntimeException: java.io.IOException at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMManager.getOrCreateBestJVMInstance(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMManager.startAppletImpl(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMManager.startApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMManager.startApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.MozillaPlugin.maybeStartApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.MozillaPlugin.setWindow(Unknown Source) Caused by: java.io.IOException at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMInstance.startImpl(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMInstance.start(Unknown Source) ... 6 more Caused by: java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "/usr/lib/jvm/jre1.7.0/bin/java": error=13, Permission denied at java.lang.ProcessBuilder.start(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.jvm.JVMLauncher.start(Unknown Source) ... 8 more Caused by: java.io.IOException: error=13, Permission denied at java.lang.UNIXProcess.forkAndExec(Native Method) at java.lang.UNIXProcess.(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ProcessImpl.start(Unknown Source) ... 10 more I've tried to type: sudo chmod 777 /usr/lib/jvm/jre1.7.0/bin/java It did not work. I have been googling this for days, without luck. Any response would be appreciated.

  • SPARC T5-4 LDoms for RAC and WebLogic Clusters

    - by Jeff Taylor-Oracle
I wanted to use two Oracle SPARC T5-4 servers to simultaneously host both Oracle RAC and a WebLogic Server Cluster. I chose to use Oracle VM Server for SPARC to create a cluster like this: There are plenty of trade offs and decisions that need to be made, for example: Rather than configuring the system by hand, you might want to use an Oracle SuperCluster T5-8 My configuration is similar to jsavit's: Availability Best Practices - Example configuring a T5-8 but I chose to ignore some of the advice. Maybe I should have included an  alternate service domain, but I decided that I already had enough redundancy Both Oracle SPARC T5-4 servers were to be configured like this: Cntl 0.25  4  64GB • HAProxy is caching the forwarding?

    - by shadow_of__soul
i'm trying to set up a server structure for an application i'm building in Node.js with socket.io. My setup is: HAProxy frontend forward to -> apache2 as default backend (or nginx, is apache in this local test) -> node.js app if the url has socket.io in the request AND a domain name i have something like: global log 127.0.0.1 local0 log 127.0.0.1 local1 notice maxconn 4096 user haproxy group haproxy daemon defaults log global mode http maxconn 2000 contimeout 5000 clitimeout 50000 srvtimeout 50000 frontend all 0.0.0.0:80 timeout client 5000 default_backend www_backend acl is_soio url_dom(host) -i socket.io #if the request contains socket.io acl is_chat hdr_dom(host) -i chaturl #if the request comes from chaturl.com use_backend chat_backend if is_chat is_soio backend www_backend balance roundrobin option forwardfor # This sets X-Forwarded-For timeout server 5000 timeout connect 4000 server server1 localhost:6060 weight 1 maxconn 1024 check #forwards to apache2 backend chat_backend balance roundrobin option forwardfor # This sets X-Forwarded-For timeout queue 50000 timeout server 50000 timeout connect 50000 server server1 localhost:5558 weight 1 maxconn 1024 check #forward to node.js app The problem comes when i made a request to something like www.chaturl.com/index.html it load perfectly but fails to loads the socket.io files (www.chaturl.com/socket.io/socket.io.js) why it redirect to apache (and should redirect to the node.js app that serve the files). The weird thing is that if i access directly to the socket.io file, after refreshing a few times, it loads, so i suppose is "caching" the forwarding for the client when it makes the first request and reach the apache server. Any suggestion of how this can be solved? or what i can try or look about this?

  • quickly close all word and excel

    - by dyenatha
Suppose I open 10 Word files and 10 Excel files and make no changes, how do I quickly taskkill all at once? Because I must repeat several attempts to replicate race, I'm hoping for a command-line solution. I'm willing to try PowerShell and cygwin (1.5) if necessary. The OS is Windows XP SP3 with current patches (still IE7). I tried "taskkill /pid 1 /pid 2 /t" where 1 is PID of EXCEL.EXE and 2 is PID of WINWORD.EXE, but it closed only 1 window of each program. I'm trying to replicate a race where an add-in for Microsoft Office 2007 fails to exclusive-lock one of its own files, which caused the 2nd Office program to stop exiting with a warning: System.IO.IOException: The process cannot access the file 'C:\Documents and Settings\me\Application Data\ExpensiveProduct\Add-InForMicrosoftOffice\4.2\egcred' because it is being used by another process. at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.FileStream.Init(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, Int32 rights, Boolean useRights, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize, FileOptions options, SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES secAttrs, String msgPath, Boolean bFromProxy) at System.IO.FileStream..ctor(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize, FileOptions options) at System.IO.StreamWriter.CreateFile(String path, Boolean append) at System.IO.StreamWriter..ctor(String path, Boolean append, Encoding encoding, Int32 bufferSize) at System.IO.StreamWriter..ctor(String path, Boolean append, Encoding encoding) at System.IO.File.WriteAllText(String path, String contents, Encoding encoding) at ExpensiveProduct.EG.DataAccess.Credentials.CredentialManager.SaveUserTable() at ExpensiveProduct.OfficeAddin.OfficeAddinBase.Dispose(Boolean disposing) at ExpensiveProduct.OfficeAddin.WordAddin.Dispose(Boolean disposing) at ExpensiveProduct.OfficeAddin.OfficeAddinBase.OnHostShutdown() at ExpensiveProduct.OfficeAddin.OfficeAddinBase.Unload(ext_DisconnectMode mode)

  • In Perl, given two IO::Socket's how do I connect 1st socket's input to 2nd's output and vice versa?

    - by bodacydo
Suppose I have made two connections in Perl with the help of IO::Socket. The first has socket $s1 and the second has socket $s2. Any ideas how can I connect them together so that whatever gets received from $s1 got sent to $s2 and whatever gets received from $s2 got sent to $s1? I can't understand how to do it. I don't know how to connect them together. I would expect to do something like $s1->stdin = $s2->stdout and $s2->stdin = $s1->stdout, but there are no such constructs in Perl. Please help me! Thanks, Boda Cydo.

  • Do Any Client-Side JavaScript Frameworks Integrate Well With Node.js+Express.js+socket.io.js?

    - by Tom D
I'm building an webapp using Node.js+Express.js+socket.io.js on the backend. Do any of the popular front-end frameworks (Agility, Angular, Backbone, Closure, Dojo, Ember, GWT, jQuery, Knockback, Knockout, Spine, YUI, etc) integrate well with this backend for "real-time" applications? I want my application to have a very "real-time" feel. Specifically, when a user submits a form I want the information to be sent using web sockets to the backend for validation and (if validation passes) to be updated in the database. Then, the server-side will use web sockets to send a confirmation that the data was saved or some list of errors. I will use the server's response to update the page using JavaScript. I know all this can be done with any of the listed frameworks. I'm interested in features of particular frameworks that will help the framework integrate better with the Node-based backend than the other frameworks.

  • Why does Java force user-agent through simple Socket IO?

    - by Zombies
    I am using nothing but raw Socket IO. There isn't one HttpURLConnection nor any http client libs in my project. When I run it through wireshark I see somethign very revealing: GET / HTTP/1.1 User-Agent: Java/1.6.0_15 Host: www.google.com Accept: text/html, image/gif, image/jpeg, *; q=.2, */*; q=.2 Connection: keep-alive Here is the crazy part, I never put ANY of that in my original request. My original request was: "GET http://www.google.com/ HTTP/1.1\r\n" + "Host: www.google.com\r\n" + "User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.8) Gecko/20100214 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Firefox/3.5.8\r\n" + "Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8\r\n" + "Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5\r\n" + "Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7\r\n" + "Keep-Alive: 300\r\n" + "\r\n"; I am using the default Sun JVM.

  • Equivalent for Java's System.getProperty("java.io.tmpdir") in C ?

    - by B_
As the title says, the java.io.tmpdir property in Java is really nice, and I can't find an equivalent for C. I'm writing for Windows and in Visual Studio. I don't want to just use something like C:\Temp because in later versions of windows the appropriate directory could be something like C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\Temp and a way to retrieve this would be much easier. I want a directory and not just a temp file because I'm downloading and executing a file from the internet. As a side note, if anyone can give me tips about how to better google for C stuff it would be much appreciated :)

  • Is MSDN referencing a system.thread, a worker thread, an io thread or all three?

    - by w0051977
Please see the warning below taken from the StreamWriter class specification (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.io.streamwriter.aspx): "Any public static (Shared in Visual Basic) members of this type are thread safe. Any instance members are not guaranteed to be thread safe." I understand that a W3WC process contains two thread pools i.e. worker threads and I/O threads. A worker thread could contain many threads of its own (if the application creates its own System.Thread instances). Does the warning only relate to System.Threads or does it relate to worker threads and I/O threads as well I.e. as the instance variables of the streamwriter class are not thread safe then does this mean that there would be problems if multiple worker threads access it eg if two users on two different web clients attempt to write to the log file at the same time, then could one lock out the other?

  • Which upgrade path for disk IO bound postgres server?

    - by user41679
Hi all, We currently have a Sun x4270 with 2xquad core Xeon Nehalmen 2.93ghz cores (16 threads), 72 gig of ram and 16 x 10k SAS disks split between the os raid 1, a partition for the Write Ahead Logs which is raid 10 and a partition for the database tables and indexes which is also raid 10, all xfs. I'm currently evaluating which path to go down in terms of upgrades. We'll be sharding the DB at some point soon, but for now I need to focus on hardware upgrades specifically. The machine is not CPU or memory bound at all at the moment, just IOWait is become an issue. The machine is mostly write access as we have a heavy caching layer. We're seeing about 300 write IOPS average on both the database partitions. We don't have any additional storage infrastructure like a Fiber Channel or ISCSI network. Budget isn't too much of a concern, something inline with the size of this server (i.e no $1m IBM machines) Space is ok on the DB side of things, we're running out obviously but there's also some reduction we can do. Additional space would be good though. My current thoughts are either: * ISCSI SAN, possible with 10Gbit network that has solid state acceleration. * FusionIO card / Sun F20 card (will the FusionIO card work in the Sun box? * DAS shelf (something like this http://www.broadberry.co.uk/das-direct-attached-storage-servers/cyberstore-224s-das) which a combination of 15k sas disks and some Intel X25-E drives for DB indexes etc) what would I need to put in the x4270 to add a DAS shelf? I think it's a SAS HBA card, do I have to use Sun's own card or will any PCI Express card work? Anything else??? what would you guys do from your experience? I appreciate it's a lot of questions, but I haven't expanded a DB machine for a number of years and the landscape has changed dramatically since then! Any advice or feedback would be very much appreciated. Let me know if there's anything else I can clarify. Thanks in advance!

  • Network drives don't get mapped and desktop redirection stops working when domain user becomes a member of the Local Administrator group on their PC

    - by Kim Jong-Un
We have a Small Business Server 2003 domain controller with Windows 7 workstations joined to the domain. I noticed recently that, if I make a user a local administrator on his computer, his redirected desktop and mapped network drives do not connect at login (error on login that network drives inaccessible and desktop is blank). However, it is still possible for this user to browse to his home directory where his redirected folders are located- so he still has access to that location. Does anyone have any theories as to what is going on here?

  • Is there anyway to close a StreamWriter without closing it's BaseStream?

    - by Binary Worrier
    My root problem is that when using calls Dispose on a StreamWriter, it also disposes the BaseStream (same problem with Close). I have a workaround for this, but as you can see it involves copying the stream. Is there any way to do this without copying the stream? The purpose of this is to get the contents of a string (originally read from a database) into a stream, so the stream can be read by a third party component. NB I cannot change the third party component. public System.IO.Stream CreateStream(string value) { var baseStream = new System.IO.MemoryStream(); var baseCopy = new System.IO.MemoryStream(); using (var writer = new System.IO.StreamWriter(baseStream, System.Text.Encoding.UTF8)) { writer.Write(value); writer.Flush(); baseStream.WriteTo(baseCopy); } baseCopy.Seek(0, System.IO.SeekOrigin.Begin); return baseCopy; } Used as public void Noddy() { System.IO.Stream myStream = CreateStream("The contents of this string are unimportant"); My3rdPartyComponent.ReadFromStream(myStream); } Ideally I'm looking for an imaginery method called BreakAssociationWithBaseStream, e.g. public System.IO.Stream CreateStream_Alternate(string value) { var baseStream = new System.IO.MemoryStream(); using (var writer = new System.IO.StreamWriter(baseStream, System.Text.Encoding.UTF8)) { writer.Write(value); writer.Flush(); writer.BreakAssociationWithBaseStream(); } return baseStream; }

  • How do I get events to execute on the "main thread"

    - by William DiStefano
I have 2 classes, one is frmMain a windows form and the other is a class in vb.NET 2003. frmMain contains a start button which executes the monitor function in the other class. My question is, I am manually adding the event handlers -- when the events are executed how do I get them to excute on the "main thread". Because when the tooltip balloon pops up at the tray icon it displays a second tray icon instead of popping up at the existing tray icon. I can confirm that this is because the events are firing on new threads because if I try to display a balloon tooltip from frmMain it will display on the existing tray icon. Here is a part of the second class (not the entire thing): Friend Class monitorFolders Private _watchFolder As System.IO.FileSystemWatcher = New System.IO.FileSystemWatcher Private _eType As evtType Private Enum evtType changed created deleted renamed End Enum Friend Sub monitor(ByVal path As String) _watchFolder.Path = path 'Add a list of Filter to specify _watchFolder.NotifyFilter = IO.NotifyFilters.DirectoryName _watchFolder.NotifyFilter = _watchFolder.NotifyFilter Or IO.NotifyFilters.FileName _watchFolder.NotifyFilter = _watchFolder.NotifyFilter Or IO.NotifyFilters.Attributes 'Add event handlers for each type of event that can occur AddHandler _watchFolder.Changed, AddressOf change AddHandler _watchFolder.Created, AddressOf change AddHandler _watchFolder.Deleted, AddressOf change AddHandler _watchFolder.Renamed, AddressOf Rename 'Start watching for events _watchFolder.EnableRaisingEvents = True End Sub Private Sub change(ByVal source As Object, ByVal e As System.IO.FileSystemEventArgs) If e.ChangeType = IO.WatcherChangeTypes.Changed Then _eType = evtType.changed notification() End If If e.ChangeType = IO.WatcherChangeTypes.Created Then _eType = evtType.created notification() End If If e.ChangeType = IO.WatcherChangeTypes.Deleted Then _eType = evtType.deleted notification() End If End Sub Private Sub notification() _mainForm.NotifyIcon1.ShowBalloonTip(500, "Folder Monitor", "A file has been " + [Enum].GetName(GetType(evtType), _eType), ToolTipIcon.Info) End Sub End Class

  • UnauthorizedAccessException when running desktop application from shared folder

    - by Atara
I created a desktop application using VS 2008. When I run it locally, all works well. I shared my output folder (WITHOUT allowing network users to change my files) and ran my exe from another Vista computer on our intranet. When running the shared exe, I receive "System.UnauthorizedAccessException" when trying to read a file. How can I give permission to allow reading the file? Should I change the code? Should I grant permission to the application\folder on the Vista computer? how? Notes: I do not use ClickOnce. the application should be distributed using xcopy. My application target framework is ".Net Framework 2.0" On the Vista computer, "controlPanel | UninstallOrChangePrograms" it says it has "Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1" I also tried to map the folder drive, but got the same errors, only now the fileName is "T:\my.ocx" ' ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ' my code: Dim src As String = mcGlobals.cmcFiles.mcGetFileNameOcx() Dim ioStream As New System.IO.FileStream(src, IO.FileMode.Open) ' ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Public Shared Function mcGetFileNameOcx() As String ' ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dim dirName As String = Application.StartupPath & "\" Dim sFiles() As String = System.IO.Directory.GetFiles(dirName, "*.ocx") Dim i As Integer For i = 0 To UBound(sFiles) Debug.WriteLine(System.IO.Path.GetFullPath(sFiles(i))) ' if found any - return the first: Return System.IO.Path.GetFullPath(sFiles(i)) Next Return "" End Function ' ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ' The Exception I receive: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '\\computerName\sharedFolderName\my.ocx' is denied. at System.IO._Error(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.FileStream.Init(...) at System.IO.FileStream..ctor(...) at System.IO.FileStream..ctor(String path, FileMode mode) ' ----------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Why does first call to java.io.File.createTempFile(String,String,File) take 5 seconds on Citrix?

    - by Ben Roling
While debugging slow startup of an Eclipse RCP app on a Citrix server, I came to find out that java.io.createTempFile(String,String,File) is taking 5 seconds. It does this only on the first execution and only for certain user accounts. Specifically, I am noticing it Citrix anonymous user accounts. I have not tried many other types of accounts, but this behavior is not exhibited with an administrator account. Also, it does not matter if the user has access to write to the given directory or not. If the user does not have access, the call will take 5 seconds to fail. If they do have access, the call with take 5 seconds to succeed. This is on a Windows 2003 Server. I've tried Sun's 1.6.0_16 and 1.6.0_19 JREs and see the same behavior. I googled a bit expecting this to be some sort of known issue, but didn't find anything. It seems like someone else would have had to have run into this before. The Eclipse Platform uses File.createTempFile() to test various directories to see if they are writeable during initialization and this issue adds 5 seconds to the startup time of our application. I imagine somebody has run into this before and might have some insight. Here is sample code I executed to see that it is indeed this call that is consuming the time. I also tried it with a second call to createTempFile and notice that subsequent calls return nearly instantaneously. public static void main(final String[] args) throws IOException { final File directory = new File(args[0]); final long startTime = System.currentTimeMillis(); File file = null; try { file = File.createTempFile("prefix", "suffix", directory); System.out.println(file.getAbsolutePath()); } finally { System.out.println(System.currentTimeMillis() - startTime); if (file != null) { file.delete(); } } } Sample output of this program is the following: C:\java.exe -jar filetest.jar C:/Temp C:\Temp\prefix8098550723198856667suffix 5093
