  I'm trying to write an action that allows the user to select the queryset and copy it to a new table. So: John, Mark, James, Tyler and Joe are in a table 1( called round 1) The user selects the action that say to "move to next round" and those same instances that were chosen are now also in the table for "round 2". I started trying with an action but don't really know where to go from here: def Round_2(modeladmin, request, queryset): For X in queryset: X.pk = None perform.short_description = "Move to Round 2" How can I copy them to the next table with all of their information (pk doesn't have to be the same)? • Create a service that connects to remote database and uses public key encryption

  I have been searching all day and reading many tutorials and still I am confused. I am working on a project that has the following requirements as specified by the client (customer - not to be confused with client app): Connect to a remote server and verify that connection was successful. Connect to Web service on said server via SOAP. Authenticate with service using public key encryption Upon successful authentication, push a list of products and categories to a MSSQL database on remote server via the Web service. The client is a Winforms application written in C#. So far, I have created a WCF Service Application with separate services for the products and categories but I cannot figure the rest out. Can anyone point me in the direction of a tutorial or tutorials that cover these requirements? Many thanks in advance! Joe

  I want to do a search across 2 tables that have a many-to-one relationship, eg class User << ActiveRecord::Base has_many :pets end class Pet << ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :users end Now let's say I have some data like so users id name 1 Bob 2 Joe 3 Brian pets id user_id animal 1 1 cat 2 1 dog 3 2 cat 4 3 dog What I want to do is create an active record query that will return a user that has both a cat and a dog (i.e. user 1 - Bob). My attempt at this so far is User.joins(:pets).where('pets.animal = ? AND pets.animal = ?','dog','cat') Now I understand why this doesn't work - it's looking for a pet that is both a dog and a cat so returns nothing. I don't know how to modify this to give me the answer I want however. Does anyone have any suggestions? This seems like it should be easy - it doesn't seem like an especially unusual situation.

• Make a usable Join relationship with LINQ on top of a database CSV design error

  I'm looking for a way to fix and/or abstract away a comma-separated values (CSV) list in a database field in order to reconstruct a usable relationship such that I can properly join the two tables below and query them using LINQ and its Join method. Following is a sample showing the Person table and CsvArticleIds field having a CSV value to represent a one-to-many association with Article records. TABLE [dbo].[Person] Id Name CsvArticleIds -- ---------- -------- 1 Joe "15,22" 5 Ed "22" 10 Arnie "8,15,22" ^^^(Of course a link table should have been created; nonetheless the relationship with articles is trapped inside that list of CSV values.) TABLE [dbo].[Article] Id Title -- ---------- 8 Beginning C# 15 A Historic look at Programming in the 90s 22 Gardening in January Additional Info the fix can be at any level: C#.NET or SQL Server something easy because I will be repeating the solution for many other CSV values in other tables. Elegant is nice too. not looking for efficiency because this is part of a one-time data migration task and can take as long as it wants to run.

  I am using Spring HibernateTemplate and need to insert hundreds of records into a mysql database every second. Not sure what is the most performant way of doing it, but I am trying to see how the multi value mysql inserts do using hibernate. Please check your query ..... Any idea of I can use a multi value mysql insert using Hibernate? or is my query incorrect? Any other ways that I can improve the performance? I did try the saveOrUpdateAll() method, and that wasn't good enough!

Can I have the picture URL from the openid proccess? with OAuth I cant'seem to find the right scope to retrieve this information... See this link: http://code.google.com/apis/gdata/docs/directory.html there is a list of scopes that you can fetch with REST api to google and I didnt't see the one related to the profile. Btw, I am using PHP and the openid is already working, but didn't start with the oauth untill I know if I can(and need) retrieve the picture (because email and name already comes within the openid proccess) thanks, Joe

• Creating a pie chart for an app

  I'm developing an app which requires a pie chart to display a set number of modules. The modules need to be clickable, sending a value to the database for how many times the module has been clicked. The slices will change color etc depending on this database value. The slices will always be equal in size. All simple stuff. My question is what charting system would you use. I've been looking at google charts but I have no way of registering a value in a slice without changing its 'weight' in the chart. So ideally I would like to add data-stage="2" to each slice that I can access with a custom method. Also google charts seems quite heavy for what I need? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Joe

I need to find every user (ideally the entire first line of the above) that has SYSPRV under "Default Permissions". I know I could write an application to do this, I was just hoping their might be a nice regex I could use. Cheers

• x86 Assembly - printf doesn't print without "\n"

  So I'm confused. I'm going through the book "Programming from the Ground Up" and am working with using libraries. printf is working just fine so long as I include a "\n" in the string, but without it it will print absolutely nothing. Any idea why this happens? Code: .section .data my_str: .ascii "Jimmy Joe is %d years old!\n\0" my_num: .long 76 .section .text .globl _start _start: pushl my_num pushl $my_str call printf movl $1, %eax movl $0, %ebx int $0x80 Also, when I use -m elf_i386 for 32-bit mode and -dynamic-linker /lib/ld-linux.so.2 -lc to link, I get the warning ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib64/libc.so when searching for -lc If that makes any difference, or if anybody has any suggestions as to how to have it load the 32-bit library directly. • Site Studio Mobile Example - WCM Reuse

  Mobile internet usage is growing by leaps and bounds and it is theorized that in the not-to-distant future it will eclipse traditional access via desktop browsers. Mary Meeker, a managing director at Morgan Stanley and head of their global technology research team, recently predicted that mobile usage will eclipse desktop usage within the next 5 years in an Events@Google series presentation. In order for organizations to reach their prospects, customers and business partners, they will need to make their content readily available on mobile devices. A few years ago it was fairly challenging to provide a special, separate, site to cater to mobile users using technologies like WML (Wireless Markup Language). Modern mobile browsers have rendered the need for this as irrelevant and now the focus has moved toward providing a browsing experience that works well on small screen sizes and is highly performant. What does all of this mean for Oracle UCM? Taking site content from an existing Site Studio site and targeting it for consumption for mobile devices is a very straightforward process that is aided by a number of native capabilities in the product. The example highlighted in this post takes advantage of dynamic conversion capabilities in Oracle UCM to enable site content to be created and updated via MS Office documents. These documents are then converted to a simple, clean HTML format for consumption in the desktop and mobile browsing experiences. To help better understand how this is possible the example below shows a fictional .COM and its mobile site counterpart that both leverage the same underlying content. The scenario is not complete or production ready, but highlights that a mobile experience may be best delivered by omitting portions of a site that would be present within the version served to desktop clients. If you have browsed CNet (news.com) on a mobile device it becomes quickly apparent that they are serving an optimized version for your mobile device. An iPhone style version can be accessed at http://iphone.cnet.com/. In order to do that they leveraged some work done for the iPhone iUi project developed by Joe Hewitt that provides mobile browsers an experience that is similar to what users may find in a native iPhone application. For our example parts of this framework are used (the CSS) and this approach provides a page that will degrade nicely over a wide range of mobile browsers, since it is comprised of lightweight HTML markup and CSS. The iPhone iUi framework also provides some nice JavaScript to enable animated transitions between pages, but for the widest range of mobile browser compatibility we will only incorporate the CSS and HTML DIV / UL based page markup in our example.

• National Give Camp Weekend - January 14-16, 2011

  What is a Give Camp?  I get asked this question constantly in the SharePoint Community.  About 3 years ago there was an event called "We Are Microsoft" in Dallas, TX.  A lady named, Toi Wright, gathered up a bunch of charities and gathered up a bunch of IT Professionals in the community.  They met for an entire weekend devising better ways to help these charities with 3 days projects.  None of these charities had in house IT staff or they were lacking.  The time these projects would save would help out other people in the long run.  The first give camp was really popular that a couple guys from Kansas City decided to come up with a give camp in the Kansas City regiona.  The event was called Coders 4 Charity.  I read Jeff Julian's post on the "We Are Microsoft" event that it inspired me to get involved.  i showed up to this event and we were split into teams.  On that team I met a couple really awsome guys: Blake Theiss, Lee Brandt, Tim Wright, and Joe Loux.  We created a SharePoint site for a boyscout troup.  It was my first exposure to Silverlight 1.1.  I had so much fun that I attended the event the next year and the St. Louis Coders 4 Charity.  Last year in 2010 when I moved i searched high and low.  Sure enough they had an event in Philadelphia.  I helped out with two SharePoint Projects for a team of firefighters and another charity.  This year there are a series of give camps around the U.S.  They have consolidated most of the give camps.  The first ever New York City Give Camp is on National Give Camp Day.  If you guys are interested I see there is a give camp in Philadelphia, St. Louis, Northwest Arkansas, Seattle, Atlanta, Houston, and more...Here is a link to the site I would definitely encourage you to get involved: http://givecamp.org/national-givecamp/.  Also, if you feel like it's only developer focused that's entirely wrong.  They need DBAs, Project Leads, Architects, and many other roles fulfilled aside from development.  It is a great experience to meet good people and help out a charity doing what we all love to do.  I strongle encourage getting involved in a give camp.  if you are coming to the NYC Give Camp I would love to meet you.  i will be there on Saturday somewhere in the morning until around dinner time.

• Fast Data: Go Big. Go Fast.

  Cross-posting Dain Hansen's excellent recap of the Big Data/Fast Data announcement during OOW: For those of you who may have missed it, today’s second full day of Oracle OpenWorld 2012 started with a rumpus. Joe Tucci, from EMC outlined the human face of big data with real examples of how big data is transforming our world. And no not the usual tried-and-true weblog examples, but real stories about taxi cab drivers in Singapore using big data to better optimize their routes as well as folks just trying to get a better hair cut. Next we heard from Thomas Kurian who talked at length about the important platform characteristics of Oracle’s Cloud and more specifically Oracle’s expanded Cloud Services portfolio. Especially interesting to our integration customers are the messaging support for Oracle’s Cloud applications. What this means is that now Oracle’s Cloud applications have a lightweight integration fabric that on-premise applications can communicate to it via REST-APIs using Oracle SOA Suite. It’s an important element to our strategy at Oracle that supports this idea that whether your requirements are for private or public, Oracle has a solution in the Cloud for all of your applications and we give you more deployment choice than any vendor. If this wasn’t enough to get the juices flowing, later that morning we heard from Hasan Rizvi who outlined in his Fusion Middleware session the four most important enterprise imperatives: Social, Mobile, Cloud, and a brand new one: Fast Data. Today, Rizvi made an important step in the definition of this term to explain that he believes it’s a convergence of four essential technology elements: Event Processing for event filtering, business rules – with Oracle Event Processing Data Transformation and Loading - with Oracle Data Integrator Real-time replication and integration – with Oracle GoldenGate Analytics and data discovery – with Oracle Business Intelligence Each of these four elements can be considered (and architect-ed) together on a single integrated platform that can help customers integrate any type of data (structured, semi-structured) leveraging new styles of big data technologies (MapReduce, HDFS, Hive, NoSQL) to process more volume and variety of data at a faster velocity with greater results.  Fast data processing (and especially real-time) has always been our credo at Oracle with each one of these products in Fusion Middleware. For example, Oracle GoldenGate continues to be made even faster with the recent 11g R2 Release of Oracle GoldenGate which gives us some even greater optimization to Oracle Database with Integrated Capture, as well as some new heterogeneity capabilities. With Oracle Data Integrator with Big Data Connectors, we’re seeing much improved performance by running MapReduce transformations natively on Hadoop systems. And with Oracle Event Processing we’re seeing some remarkable performance with customers like NTT Docomo.   Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook is rated as the best CEO according to a report released by the popular employee reviews website Glassdoor.com. 50,000 employees reviews submitted to Glassdoor in the past 1 year are considered for preparing the rating list and Zukerberg topped the list with 99 percent approval to the question “Do you approve of the way your CEO is leading the company?”. Wow! That’s an amazing support to Zukergerg from his employees though stock market and share holders are not with him. Coincidently Facebook is also rated as the best company to work by Glassdoor in a recent survey. Here is the list of top 10 CEOs Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook; 99.3% Approval Bill McDermott & Jim Hagemann Snabe, SAP; 99% Approval Dominic Barton, McKinsey & Company; 97% Approval Jim Turley, Ernst & Young; 96% Approval John E. At least not as happy as their peers at Facebook. Google CEO’s Larry Page is at 11th position, Jeff Bezos of Amazon at 16th position and Tim Cook of Apple is at 18th position. • Subterranean IL: Volatile

  This time, we'll be having a look at the volatile. prefix instruction, and one of the differences between volatile in IL and C#. The volatile. prefix volatile is a tricky one, as there's varying levels of documentation on it. From what I can see, it has two effects: It prevents caching of the load or store value; rather than reading or writing to a cached version of the memory location (say, the processor register or cache), it forces the value to be loaded or stored at the 'actual' memory location, so it is then immediately visible to other threads. It forces a memory barrier at the prefixed instruction. This ensures instructions don't get re-ordered around the volatile instruction. This is slightly more complicated than it first seems, and only seems to matter on certain architectures. For more details, Joe Duffy has a blog post going into the details. For this post, I'll be concentrating on the first aspect of volatile. Caching field accesses To demonstrate this, I created a simple multithreaded IL program. Adding volatile to the ldfld fixes this: dupvolatile.ldfld bool Holder::stopbrfalse DoWork The volatile ldfld forces the field access to read direct from heap memory, which is then updated by the main thread, rather than using a cached copy. volatile in C# This highlights one of the differences between IL and C#. In IL, volatile only applies to the prefixed instruction, whereas in C#, volatile is specified on a field to indicate that all accesses to that field should be volatile (interestingly, there's no mention of the 'no caching' aspect of volatile in the C# spec; it only focuses on the memory barrier aspect). Furthermore, this information needs to be stored within the assembly somehow, as such a field might be accessed directly from outside the assembly, but there's no concept of a 'volatile field' in IL! How this information is stored with the field will be the subject of my next post.

However i'm now wanting to modify it for the purpose of changing it from floating point to fixed point maths for enhanced efficiency (for those who are going to talk about premature optimization and what not, i want to have my entire engine in fixed point both as a learning process for me and so i can port code more easily to systems in the future that dont have native floating points such as arm cpus) My initial conversion to fixed points just resulted in the cycling stuck on either the first or last frame of cycling. Plus it would be nice to understand better how it works so i can add more options and so forth in the future, my maths however sucks and the comments are limited so i don't really know how the maths work for determining the frame it shoud use (cycleAmount) I was also a beginner when i ported it as i had no idea between floating points and integers and what not.
