  • Need to set mailx variable to specify the From address

    Running Oracle Linux 5.8 (which is just re-branded RedHat EL 5.8) I must change the From address. But we have scripts that use mailx which cannot be re-written to use any extra flags, so I'd like to use internal variables instead, which I see on the linux.die.net manpage on mailx is an alternative to the -r flag: -r address Sets the From address. Overrides any from variable specified in environment or startup files. Tilde escapes are disabled. The -r address options are passed to the mail transfer agent unless SMTP is used. This option exists for compatibility only; it is recommended to set the from variable directly instead. (Source: http://linux.die.net/man/1/mailx) How can we use these mailx variables? I tried adding this to /root/.mailrc, no go: set [email protected] I also added that to /etc/mail.rc with no gold. So I am turning to you, SuperUsers...

  • setting the PATH for Git (not for me)

    Hi, I'm running OSX 10.6.5 with Git 1.7.1 I have git installed in a non-standard location (though that really should be the standard on a mac;-) in /Library/Frameworks/Git.framework. My own PATH is set fine, git works fine, until... I set up a pre-commit hook with a Ruby script: $ git commit -m "added some Yard documentation" .git/hooks/pre-commit: line 1: #!/usr/bin/env: No such file or directory The pre-commit.sample runs ok, so it appears that git can't find /usr/bin/env, or much else as I've tried shebanging it directly to ruby etc. Just /bin/sh is ok. So, where does Git get it's PATH? because it's not using mine or this wouldn't be happening. And more to the point, how do I get it to see /usr/bin/env ? I've tested the ruby script already, it works.     Apache's module mod_env offers a handy way of setting environment variables in configuration files, like: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName xyz.com DocumentRoot /var/www/rails_app/public PassengerAppRoot /var/www/rails_app SetEnv MY_VARIABLE contents </VirtualHost> http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/mod_env.html#setenv However, in nginx I couldn't find anything that serves the same purpose. What's the alternative here? I thought of setting environment variables in .profile files (I am using Ubuntu 10.04), but that wouldn't have the same "per vHost" isolation I have with Apache, right? What are the alternatives here?

    Possible Duplicate: Why do we need private variables? I know that it's best practice to stay safe, and that we should always prevent others from directly accessing a class' properties. I hear this all the time from university professors, and I also see this all the time in a lot of source code released on the App Hub. In fact, professors say that they will actually take marks off for every variable that gets declared public. Now, this leaves me always declaring variables as private. No matter what. Even if each of these variables were to have both a getter and a setter. But here's the problem: it's tedious work. I tend to quickly lose interest in a project every time I need to have a variable in a class that could have simply been declared public instead of private with a getter and a setter. So my question is, do I really need to declare all my variables private? Or could I declare some variables public whenever they require both a getter and a setter?

  • Symlink path can be followed manually, but `cd` returns Permission denied

    I am trying to access the directory /usr/software/test/agnostic. There are several symlinks involved in this path. As you can see by the below transcript, I am unable to cd directly to the path, but I can check each step of the way and cd to the symlinked directories until I reach the destination. Why is this? (and how do I fix it?)   • Where should you store variables for a search program in java?

    I'm wondering which is a more effective storage method in java. Would be better to save variables that will not change in a class or a resource? They're going to be variables that contain a set amount so that later a search program will go through the list of variables so as to recognize possible options. Also if there is a more efficient method of storing them please say so or if i doesn't matter where i store them.

    I can't seem to get the ASP.NET engine to handle ALL wildcard mapping. When I try to make a request that is supposed to be handled by the asp.net engine, i get a 404 error from the StaticFile handler Here is the content of my web.config file.   • Is possible to auto-import a module from a diferent subfolder in other subfolder?

    I have a kind of plugin system, with this layout: - Python -- SDK -- Plugins ---- Plugin1 ---- Plugin2 All 3 have a __init__.py file. I wonder if is possible to be able to do import SDK from any plugin (as if SDK was in the site-packages folder). I'm in a situation where need to deploy, update, delete, add or change SDK files or any of the plugins under non-admin accounts, and wonder if I can get SDK in a clean way (I could sys.path.append in all plugins but I wonder if exist a better option). I imagine that using this in the Plugins init coulkd work: import sys import os ROOT_DIR = os.path.abspath(os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__),'..')) print ROOT_DIR sys.path.append( ROOT_DIR ) But clearly is not executed this code (I imagine init was auto-magicalled executed in the load of the module :( )

I tried this : import sys,os root="/home/patate/directory/" path=os.path.join(root,"targetdirectory") for r,d,f in os.walk(path): for file in f: print os.path.join(root,file) Unfortunatly it doesn't work properly, i get all the files, but not them complete path. like : if the dir struct would be : /home/patate/directory/targetdirectory/123/456/789/file.txt It would print: /home/patate/directory/targetdirectory/file.txt What i need is the first result, any help would be greatly appreciated ! Please help to sort out this issue.

    I am trying to set environment variables using the setx command, such as follows setx PATH "f:\common tools\git\bin;f:\common tools\python\app;f:\common tools\python\app\scripts;f:\common tools\ruby\bin;f:\masm32\bin;F:\Borland\BCC55\Bin;%PATH%" However, I get the following error if the value is more then 1024 characters long: WARNING: The data being saved is truncated to 1024 characters. SUCCESS: Specified value was saved. But some of the paths in the end are not saved in variable, I guess due to character limit as the error suggests.

    Will Linux / UNIX / OS X binaries be stored in the same directories across different platform or distributions? I'm asking because I need to have access to uuidgen (stored in /usr/bin/uuidgen on my development computer) and noticed that my local Apache server does not include /usr/bin in the PATH. I know I could add /usr/bin to the path, but I want to make sure the software can be re-deployed on a number of different systems with ease. Thanks!

    I need to rebuild path structures for old Windows Movie Maker projects under a new Windows 7 install. The problem is that those projects refer to files of a certain file path that can't be rebuiltd in Windows 7 ("Documents and Settings" is blocked). Is there a way to batch convert those projects with updated paths? Some file specs of the WMM file format (for coding a little utility) would be helpful as well.

    I'd like to set the timeout on a specific Session Variable in a .Net web application, but leave other Session variables alone. Is this possible? Example: I have 5 Session Variables Session(var1) Session(var2) Session(var3) Session(var4) Session(var5) I want to set it so that Session(var1) through Session(var4) have a timeout of 8 hours (480 minutes), but Session(var5) has a timeout of 20 minutes. Can it be done?

    I've been using xdebug to do php debugging (netbeans or eclipse). I am usually able to inspect variables OK. However, sometimes when I expand a disclosure triangle for a variable -- typically when the client is making an AJAX call -- it will result in an empty response being returned and causing the AJAX call to fail. Has anyone run into this? Is there a way to make PHP debugging with xdebug more robust? (Not being able to inspect variables defeats the purpose of a debugger. Thanks

I recall once reading that in C, variables must be declared at the top of a function i.e. the following is invalid: void foo() { int good; if (...) { int bad; } } In the above code, is the declaraing of the bad varaible legal by C standards, or only legal due to a gcc extension?     I'm no stranger to __get(), and have used it to make some very convenient libraries in the past. However, I'm faced with a new challenge (PHP 5.3, abbreviated and simplified my code for this question): <?php namespace test; class View { function __construct($filename, $varArray) { $this->filename = $filename; $this->varArray = $varArray; } function display() { include($this->filename); } function __get($varName) { if (isset($this->varArray[$varName])) return $this->varArray[$varName]; return "?? $varname ??"; } } ?> Above is a very, very simplified system for loading a View. This code would call the view and display it: <?php require_once("View.php"); use test\View; $view = new View("views/myview.php", array("user" => "Tom")); $view->display(); ?> My goal for this code is to allow the view "myview.php" to contain code like this: <p> Hello <?php echo $user; ?>! Your E-mail is <?php echo $email; ?> </p> And, used with the above code, this would output "Hello Tom! Your E-mail is ?? email ??" However, this won't work. The view is being included within a class method, so when it refers to $user and $email, it's looking for local function variables -- not variables belonging to the View class. For this reason, __get never gets triggered. I could change all my view's variables to things like $this-user and $this-email, but that would be a messy and unintuitive solution. I'd love to find a way where I can reference variables directly WITHOUT having PHP throw an error when an undefined variable is used. Thoughts? Is there a clean way to do this, or am I forced to resort to hacky solutions?
