  • Communicating with a remote host via HTTPS

    - by user619818
I have developed a solution where a Java applet makes a socket connection to a port on a socket server (which happens to run on a web server). But a new client has implemented https within their LAN and so I am told communication must be via HTTPS. With standard socket communication you connect to a port on a host. But the clients HTTPS uses port 443. So will it be possible to connect to a socket server using a different port? I assume it must be possible? Any help would be much appreciated.

Any suggestions please, as it's urgent.

  • Sempron 145 core unlocking

    - by Grant
Call me a cheapskate looking for performance, but I have a Sempron 145 processor that has been unlocked to an Athlon II X2 4450e with a GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard, but only one of the two processor cores can be used at a time. If both of the cores are enabled in the BIOS the kernel will hang during boot, If I reboot the system and disable the second core (but not re-lock the processor), it will take me to the grub and then start normally. Is there a way to enable both cores and boot without kernel hangs?

Raspberry pi is small and efficient but i don't know whether it can support 2 TB or more external hard disk. Where as in Intel i can have internal hard disk and at the same time external also and will be more faster with 2gb or 4gb RAM. Which is better Raspberry pi or Intel,is it possible to stimulate my ubuntu in Intel processor. the main reason using processor it to give the system decision making capability ,understanding and analyzing capabilities using different algorithm's .my processor should analyze the condition take proper steps in running the appropriate application

  • Do I have to bind an UDP socket in my client program, to receive data? (I always get WASEINVAL)...

    - by Incubbus
Hey There, I have the following problem: I am starting WSA, then I am creating a UDP socket (AF_INET, SOCK_DGRAM, IPPROTO_UDP) and try to recvfrom on this socket, but it always returns -1 and I get WSAEINVAL (10022)... I don´t know why?... When I bind the port, that does not happen... But it is very lame to bind the clients socket... (As far as I remember, i never had this problem before:/ )... Anyone knows why this happens?... (I am sending data to my server, which anwsers[ or at least, tries to^^])... Inc::STATS CConnection::_RecvData(sockaddr* addr, std::string &strData) { int ret, len, fromlen; //return code / length of the data / sizeof(sockaddr) char *buffer; //will hold the data char c; //recv length of the message fromlen = sizeof(sockaddr); ret = recvfrom(m_InSock, &c, 1, 0, addr, &fromlen); if(ret != 1) { #ifdef __MYDEBUG__ std::stringstream ss; ss << WSAGetLastError(); MessageBox(NULL, ss.str().c_str(), "", MB_ICONERROR | MB_OK); #endif return Inc::ERECV; }...

  • How to launch a Windows service network process to listen to a port on a localhost socket that is vi

    - by rwired
Here's the code (in a standard TService in Delphi): const ProcessExe = 'MyNetApp.exe'; function RunService: Boolean; var StartInfo : TStartupInfo; ProcInfo : TProcessInformation; CreateOK : Boolean; begin CreateOK := false; FillChar(StartInfo,SizeOf(TStartupInfo),#0); FillChar(ProcInfo,SizeOf(TProcessInformation),#0); StartInfo.cb := SizeOf(TStartupInfo); CreateOK := CreateProcess(nil, PChar(ProcessEXE),nil, nil,False, CREATE_NEW_PROCESS_GROUP+NORMAL_PRIORITY_CLASS, nil, PChar(InstallDir), StartInfo, ProcInfo); CloseHandle(ProcInfo.hProcess); CloseHandle(ProcInfo.hThread); Result := CreateOK; end; procedure TServicel.ServiceExecute(Sender: TService); const IntervalsBetweenRuns = 4; //no of IntTimes between checks IntTime = 250; //ms var Count: SmallInt; begin Count := IntervalsBetweenRuns; //first time run immediately while not Terminated do begin Inc(Count); if Count >= IntervalsBetweenRuns then begin Count := 0; //We check to see if the process is running, //if not we run it. That's all there is to it. //if ProcessEXE crashes, this service host will just rerun it if processExists(ProcessEXE)=0 then RunService; end; Sleep(IntTime); ServiceThread.ProcessRequests(False); end; end; MyNetApp.exe is a SOCKS5 proxy listening on port 9870. Users configure their browser to this proxy which acts as a secure-tunnel/anonymizer. All works perfectly fine on 2000/XP/2003, but on Vista/Win7 with UAC the service runs in Session0 under LocalSystem and port 9870 doesn't show up in netstat for the logged-in user or Administrator. Seems UAC is getting in my way. Is there something I can do with the SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES or CreateProcess, or is there something I can do with CreateProcessAsUser or impersonation to ensure that a network socket on a service is available to logged-in users on the system (note, this app is for mass deployment, I don't have access to user credentials, and require the user elevate their privileges to install a service on Vista/Win7)

  • Writing an OS for Motorola 68K processor. Can I emulate it? And can I test-drive OS development?

    - by ulver
Next term, I'll need to write a basic operating system for Motorola 68K processor as part of a course lab material. Is there a Linux emulator of a basic hardware setup with that processor? So my partners and I can debug quicker on our computers instead of physically restarting the board and stuff. Is it possible to apply test-driven development technique to OS development? Code will be mostly assembly and C. What will be the main difficulties with trying to test-drive this? Any advice on how to do it?

  • Connect two client sockets

    - by Hernán Eche
Good morning, let's say Java has two kind of sockets... server sockets "ServerSocket" client sockets or just "Socket" ////so Simple ! Imagine the situation of two processes: X Client <-- Y Server The server process Y : has a "ServerSocket", that is listening to a TCP port The client process X : send a connection request through a -client type- "Socket" X ////so Simple ! then the accept() method (in server Y) returns a new client type "Socket", when it occurs, great the two Sockets get "interconected", so the -client socket- in client process, is connected with the -client socket- in the server process then (reading/writing in socket X is like reading/writing in socket Y, and viceversa. ) TWO CLIENT SOCKETS GET INTERCONECTED!! ////so Simple ! BUT... (there is always a But..) What if I create the two CLIENT sockets in same process, and I want to get them "interconected" ? ////mmm Complex =(... even posible? Let's say how to have TWO CLIENT SOCKETS GET INTERCONECTED WITHOUT using an intermediate ServerSocket ? I 've solved it.. by creating two threads for continuously reading A and writing B, and other for reading B and writng A... but I think could be a better way..(or should!) (Those world-energy-consuming threads are not necessary with the client-server aproach) Any help or advice would be appreciated!! Thanks

  • help with Firefox extension

    - by Johnny Grass
I'm writing a Firefox extension that creates a socket server which will output the active tab's URL when a client makes a connection to it. I have the following code in my javascript file: var serverSocket; function startServer() { var listener = { onSocketAccepted : function(socket, transport) { try { var outputString = gBrowser.currentURI.spec + "\n"; var stream = transport.openOutputStream(0,0,0); stream.write(outputString,outputString.length); stream.close(); } catch(ex2){ dump("::"+ex2); } }, onStopListening : function(socket, status){} }; try { serverSocket = Components.classes["@mozilla.org/network/server-socket;1"] .createInstance(Components.interfaces.nsIServerSocket); serverSocket.init(7055,true,-1); serverSocket.asyncListen(listener); } catch(ex){ dump(ex); } document.getElementById("status").value = "Started"; } startServer(); As it is, it works for multiple tabs in a single window. If I open multiple windows, it ignores the additional windows. I think it is creating a server socket for each window, but since they are using the same port, the additional sockets fail to initialize. I need it to create a server socket when the browser launches and continue running when I close the windows (Mac OS X). As it is, when I close a window but Firefox remains running, the socket closes and I have to restart firefox to get it up an running. How do I go about that?

  • Should I close sockets from both ends?

    - by Roman
I have the following problem. My client program monitor for availability of server in the local network (using Bonjour, but it does not rally mater). As soon as a server is "noticed" by the client application, the client tries to create a socket: Socket(serverIP,serverPort);. At some point the client can loose the server (Bonjour says that server is not visible in the network anymore). So, the client decide to close the socket, because it is not valid anymore. At some moment the server appears again. So, the client tries to create a new socket associated with this server. But! The server can refuse to create this socket since it (server) has already a socket associated with the client IP and client port. It happens because the socket was closed by the client, not by the server. Can it happen? And if it is the case, how this problem can be solved? Well, I understand that it is unlikely that the client will try to connect to the server from the same port (client port), since client selects its ports randomly. But it still can happen (just by chance). Right?

  • Node.js, Cygwin and Socket.io walk into a bar... Node.js throws ENOBUFS and everyone dies...

    - by A Wizard Did It
I'm hoping someone here can help me out, I'm not having much luck figuring this out myself. I'm running node.js version 0.3.1 on Cygwin. I'm using Connect and Socket.io. I seem to be having some random problems with DNS or something, I haven't quite figured it out. The end result is that I the server is running fine, but when a browser attempts to connect to it the initial HTTP Request works, Socket.io connects, and then the server dies (output below). I don't think it has anything to do with the HTTP request because the server gets a lot data posted to it, and it was receiving requests and responding up until my connection that killed it. I've googled around and the closest thing I've found is DNS being set improperly. It's a network program meant to run only on an internal network, so I've set the nameserver x.x.x.x in my /etc/resolv.conf to the internal DNS. I've also added nameserver 8.8.8.8 in addition. I'm not sure what else to check, but would be grateful of any help. I've edited the source to include && errno != ENOBUFS which now prevents the server from dying, however now the LDAP request isn't working. I'm not sure what the problem is that would cause that though. As I mentioned this is an internal only application, so I set the DNS servers in /etc/resolv.conf to the DNS servers that are being applied to the host machine. Not sure if this is part of the issue? EDIT 2 Here's some output from gdb --args ./node_g --debug ../myscript.js. • How the clients (client sockets) are identified?

    - by Roman
To my understanding by serverSocket = new ServerSocket(portNumber) we create an object which potentially can "listen" to the indicated port. By clientSocket = serverSocket.accept() we force the server socket to "listen" to its port and to "accept" a connection from any client which tries to connect to the server through the port associated with the server. When I say "client tries to connect to the server" I mean that client program executes "nameSocket = new Socket(serverIP,serverPort)". If client is trying to connect to the server, the server "accepts" this client (i.e. creates a "client socket" associated with this client). If a new client tries to connect to the server, the server creates another client socket (associated with the new client). But how the server knows if it is a "new" client or an "old" one which has already its socket? Or, in other words, how the clients are identified? By their IP? By their IP and port? By some "signatures"? What happens if an "old" client tries to use Socket(serverIP,serverIP) again? Will server create the second socket associated with this client?

  • How do I get Java to use my multi-core processor?

    - by Rudiger
    I'm using a GZIPInputStream in my program, and I know that the performance would be helped if I could get Java running my program in parallel. In general, is there a command-line option for the standard VM to run on many cores? It's running on just one as it is. Thanks! Edit I'm running plain ol' Java SE 6 update 17 on Windows XP. Would putting the GZIPInputStream on a separate thread explicitly help? No! Do not put the GZIPInputStream on a separate thread! Do NOT multithread I/O! Edit 2 I suppose I/O is the bottleneck, as I'm reading and writing to the same disk... In general, though, is there a way to make GZIPInputStream faster? Or a replacement for GZIPInputStream that runs parallel? Edit 3 Code snippet I used: GZIPInputStream gzip = new GZIPInputStream(new FileInputStream(INPUT_FILENAME)); DataInputStream in = new DataInputStream(new BufferedInputStream(gzip));

  • Any ideas for developing a Risc Processor friendly string allocator?

    - by Richard Fabian
I'm working on some tools to enable high throughput data-oriented development, and one thing that I've not got an immediate answer for is how you go about allocating strings quickly. On risc processors you've got another problem of implementation that the CPU doesn't like branching, which is what I'm trying to minimise or avoid. Also, cache coherence is important on most CPUs, so that's gotta be influential in the design too. So, how would you go about reducing the overhead for a generic string allocator? Sometimes it's easier to solve a more explicit problem, so any ideas for string sizes of 5-30?

  • Python: how to run several scripts (or functions) at the same time under windows 7 multicore processor 64bit

    - by Gianni
sorry for this question because there are several examples in Stackoverflow. I am writing in order to clarify some of my doubts because I am quite new in Python language. i wrote a function: def clipmyfile(inFile, poly, outFile): ... # doing something with inFile and poly and return outFile Normally I do this: clipmyfile(inFile="File1.txt",poly="poly1.shp",outFile="res1.txt") clipmyfile(inFile="File2.txt",poly="poly2.shp",outFile="res2.txt") clipmyfile(inFile="File3.txt",poly="poly3.shp",outFile="res3.txt") ...... clipmyfile(inFile="File21.txt",poly="poly21.shp",outFile="res21.txt") I had read in this example Run several python programs at the same time and i can use (but probably i wrong) from multiprocessing import Pool p = Pool(21) # like in your example, running 21 separate processes to run the function in the same time and speed my analysis I am really honest to say that I didn't understand the next step. Thanks in advance for help and suggestion Gianni

  • SSL / HTTP / No Response to Curl

    - by Alex McHale
I am trying to send commands to a SOAP service, and getting nothing in reply. The SOAP service is at a completely separate site from either server I am testing with. I have written a dummy script with the SOAP XML embedded. When I run it at my local site, on any of three machines -- OSX, Ubuntu, or CentOS 5.3 -- it completes successfully with a good response. I then sent the script to our public host at Slicehost, where I fail to get the response back from the SOAP service. It accepts the TCP socket and proceeds with the SSL handshake. I do not however receive any valid HTTP response. This is the case whether I use my script or curl on the command line. I have rewritten the script using SOAP4R, Net::HTTP and Curb. All of which work at my local site, none of which work at the Slicehost site. I have tried to assemble the CentOS box as closely to match my Slicehost server as possible. I rebuilt the Slice to be a stock CentOS 5.3 and stock CentOS 5.4 with the same results. When I look at a tcpdump of the bad sessions on Slicehost, I see my script or curl send the XML to the remote server, and nothing comes back. When I look at the tcpdump at my local site, I see the response just fine. I have entirely disabled iptables on the Slice. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing these results? Please let me know what additional information I can furnish. Thank you! Below is a wire trace of a sample session. The IP that starts with 173 is my server while the IP that starts with 12 is the SOAP server's. • 64 bit vs 32 bit

    - by user53864
When I was doing my course MCSA, I'm taught the following: With a 32-bit processor only 32-bit operating system can be installed. with a 64-bit processor both 32-bit & 64-bit operating system can be installed It's said 64-bit os cannot be installed on a 32-bit processor. I just want to make sure the above points because recently I'm asked to installed Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprize and while installation it showed only x64 and it simply installed it. I was thinking all the computers in my office having a 32-bit processor. If so how it could be possible to install a x64 bit os on a 32-bit processor? or I'm wrong with the 1st point or the processor may be of 64-bit(I don't know how to check). I'm confused... One thing what I know the benefits of 64-bit over 32-bit is faster operation. If anyone could tell me other benefits, it could be helpful for me. Thanks!

  • mod_jk problem: Tomcat is probably not started or is listening on the wrong port

    - by Konrad
Hi, I am running some application on Tomcat 6.0.26. There is Apache in front of web server talking to it over mod_jk. Every few hours when I try to access application browser simply spins, and no content is retrieved. No error is reported in Tomcat logs, but I fond such errors in mod_jk log: [Sun Jul 04 21:19:13 2010][error] ajp_service::jk_ajp_common.c (1758): Error connecting to tomcat.
