• Best open source ASP.NET MVC e-commerce projects

  I need to get a e-commerce site up and running, but I really don't want to program it from the bottom up if I don't need to. I want to program it using ASP.NET MVC. I'm looking for a good open source alternative (or one for purchase if it's modular enough) that I can use as a base and enhance with the needed functions? It has to have all "normal" e-commerce functions, and also the possibility to integrate with a credit card API of my choice. If anyone have any recommendations for me here, I would appreciate it :)

• Are There Realistic/Useful Solutions for Source Control for Ladder Logic Programs

  Version control for ladder logic (LL) programs for programmable logic controllers (PLCs) seems to be virtually non-existent. It may be because LL is a visual language and tends to be stored in binary files, or it may be because source code control hasn't "caught on" in process control engineering circles - or perhaps my Google-Fu is weak tonight. Do you know of any realistic and useful solutions for version control for such systems? Definitions: realistic = changes to the programs are tracked by user and subject to reversion and merges useful = the system integrates with visual LL designers, is not limited to LL from a single PLC manufacturer, and does not cost a ridiculous amount of money? Note: I have heard of people using SVN or Mercurial et al to track the binary files, but I don't think the diff/merge capabilities would display readable differences.

  Thanks to all the nice comments from people who attended my presentation at DDD9, and extra thanks to Jon Skeet, Mark Rendle and Mike Hadlow for coming on stage for the last ten minutes to help debate whether the Async CTP is the correct way to go to enhance C# 5.0.   Ive come into a bit of an issue lately regarding shopping cart software, and i would like some recommendations. I have been an OsCommerce developer for years now, and im finding alot of my clients are wanting updated looking backends ... OSC is fantastic, but the fact that its not being updated anymore and that its clunky and table based is taking up quite a bit of my time. I have built a few sites on Magento, and although it gives quite a good backend, it is the slowest shopping cart i have ever come across in my time, that and the fact that modifying it takes years, has convinced me not to use that again. So, i like any input as to what people are finding good in todays open source shopping cart software.

  I have recently bought humble bundle 2 ( http://www.humblebundle.com/ ). Is there a way to run Braid using ATI's open-source drivers? The game always crashes. When do get it to start in windowed mode once i go to the first level it will crash. I am using the lastest version of Braid (ST3C ignored) When I use the proprietary drivers Braid works flawlessly and World of Goo performance is increased. However there is terrible screen tearing with the ATI propritary drivers. So my question is: How do I play Braid if I want to use the proprietary drivers?

I don't want to reinvent the wheel and use an existing template/open source project and add my service specific functionality. The features I am looking for are: Support for different roles (I need to have an admin role, customer and preferred customer roles) An admin section where admins can manage user accounts, login as with users credentials for providing support Customer pages that are role specific (Ex: Some functionality can be used by preferred customers but not non preferred ones) Preferably a pricing/plans page with payment gateway integration These are some of the basic pages available in most of service sites online.   When writing a function that can have several different return values, particularly when different branches of code return different values, what is the cleanest or sanest way of returning? Please note the following are really contrived examples meant only to illustrate different styles. Example 1: Single return def my_function(): if some_condition: return_value = 1 elif another_condition: return_value = 2 else: return_value = 3 return return_value Example 2: Multiple returns def my_function(): if some_condition: return 1 elif another_condition: return 2 else: return 3 The second example seems simpler and is perhaps more readable. The first one, however, might describe the overall logic a bit better (the conditions affect the assignment of the value, not whether it's returned or not). Is the second way preferable to the first? Why?

  When I found out yesterday that one of my top 5 development tools .NET Reflector will no longer be free at the end of February, I thought I'd see if work had started on a good open source alternative...and guess what...work on ILSpy is already well underway!! There seems to be a difference of opinion on what Red Gate said when they purchased .NET Reflector from Lutz Roeder in 2008. They say that they would try to keep it free, where as others think they promised to keep it free. Either way at the time I thought it was a smart purchase by Red Gate as it would raise their profile overnight within the .Net community. But not only are they going to charge $35 for v7 (which is up to them), they have also time-bombed v6 to force users to pay. This I think will lower their profile overnight within the .Net community!! Maybe they are been slightly naive in thinking the community wouldn't just write an alternative?  #

• Double-click instead of single-click in Ubuntu 12.04

  When I do a single click, my computer (with Ubuntu 12.04) acts like it was double click. I think it happens in ~50% of cases. It happens with all the program I use: browsers, file manager, terminal and so on. I'm not sure when exactly it started, maybe a week ago, and I don't remember if it started to happen after system-update or after the installation of some packages. What I tried: change mouse change mouse settings like Double-Click Timeout None of those helped me. Any ideas? Thanks.

  Does anybody know of a CMS where users can edit their own page, and their page only (something similar to about.me, except with more customization/options)? I'm not talking about profiles, but more like an individual web page for people's businesses. • Multiple TOC with MediaWiki using section headings in single page

  I'm running my own installation of MediaWiki, which has been great! I haven't been able to find the answer to this small problem in any post, how to, etc. Here's the setup: Article TOC (limited to showing only H1 and H2) ==H1== ===H2=== ====H3==== ====H3==== I don't want the H3 to show up on the main table of contents, because it would make the list very long. Instead, under the H2, I would like to display another TOC with all the H3's under that listing. From my understanding, you cannot have multiple table of contents on a single page. I've thought about making a template for each H2 that has the H3 links, but that seems like it duplicates a lot of work and creates loads of pages. I'd love a template that sucks all subsection names and spits them out, but I don't see how to do that. Alternatively, is there a way to enable multiple TOCs in a custom install of MediaWiki that I'm missing? Even that would get closer to what I'm trying to do.

One /home/ and the other is everything else (both drives have only one partition). I'm selling the computer but want to keep one of the hard drives. • Can't single boot Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit

  I'm new to Ubuntu, I bought an Asus A45VS laptop recently pre-installed with Windows 8, but I have already uninstalled it and wipef the whole HDD. I plan to install Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit on it. I have tried several times to install and uninstall Ubuntu again and again with boot-able USB, but it still fail to boot. All the installation process go fine, after rebooting my laptop, it just stick to the purple screen. Then I boot it with USB again, tried boot-repair, tried make an EFI partition, still the same. I have searched on the web, and all of them was about dual booting with windows 7 or windows 8, I don't wish to do dual booting as I wish to have single OS which is Ubuntu on this laptop. please help, thanks in advance.

• Find visitors to multiple subdomains on single visit with Google Analytics

  I'm working on a site that has quite the backlog of Google Analytics data for their site network. One of our big questions is whether people enter on one site and move to another (and if so, of course, how do these visits differ from single site visits). The hostname report (Audience Network Hostname) shows all the host names and I've setup Advanced Segments to get site-specific data. That all works great, but I'm really having a hard time figuring out how to find visits to multiple sites as defined by visiting more than one subdomain or the root site and one or more subdomains. I do see that other hostnames somehow come through when I apply one of the segments to the host name report. Which I can't say I expected. Is that the best way to see if people are visiting 2+ sites?

• Sprite/Tile Sheets Vs Single Textures

  I'm making a race circuit which is constructed using various textures. To provide some background, I'm writing it in C++ and creating quads with OpenGL to which I assign a loaded .raw texture too. Currently I use 23 500px x 500px textures of which are all loaded and freed individually. I have now combined them all into a single sprite/tile sheet making it 3000 x 2000 pixels seems the number of textures/tiles I'm using is increasing. Now I'm wondering if it's more efficient to load them individually or write extra code to extract a certain tile from the sheet? Is it better to load the sheet, then extract 23 tiles and store them from one sheet, or load the sheet each time and crop it to the correct tile? There seems to be a number of way to implement it... • Looking for a non-cryptographic hash function that returns a single character

  Suppose I have a dictionary of ASCII words stored in uppercase. I also want to save those words into separate files so that the total word count of each file is approximately the same. By simply looking at the word I need to know which file it should be in (if it's there at all). Duplicate words should go into the same file and overwrite the last one. My first attempt at solving this problem is to use .NET's object.GetHashCode() function and .Trim() to get one of the "random" characters that pop up. I asked a similar question here If I only use one character of object.GetHashCode() I would get a hash code character of A..Z or 0..9. However saving the result of GetHashCode to disk is a no-no so I need a substitute. Question: What algorithm (or subset of an algorithm) is appropriate for pigeonholing strings into a single character or range of characters (Like hex 0..F offers 16 chars)? Real world usage: I'll use this answer to modify the Partition key used in Azure Table storage as described here
