• Folder browse dialog not showing folders

  I have created an application compiled with .NET 3.5. and used the FolderBrowserDialog object. When a button is pressed i execute this code: FolderBrowserDialog fbd = new FolderBrowserDialog (); fbd.ShowDialog(); A Folder dialog is showed but i can't see any folders. The only thing i see are the buttons OK & Cancel (and create new folder button when the ShowNewFolderButton properyty is set to true). When i try the exact same code on a different form everything is working fine. Any ideas??

• can't jQuery 3d party dialog to do what i want :)

  i'm using NyroModal, a 3rd party jQuery based dialog script. According to these settings, I should be able to do this: $.nyroModalManual({ type : 'ajax', url : '/url', 'ajax' : { url : '/url', data : 'somedata=1' } }); However I receive an error "$.ajax() is not defined". How could this be? p.s. If I run console.debug($.ajax()) right before the nyroModalManual part, it shows the XMLHTTPObject nicely, so I'm probably doing something wrong in the settings... I just need to be able to pass data.

I have no skills in build graphical controls. Using the standard controls of Delphi, what could be the best way... using a TListView/TStringGrid with custom draw or... The idea is show a icon in the left, a title with subtitle with 1-3 lines on the middle and date/version on the rigth. That row must be selectable and that is all.

• Why JavaScript dialogs (alert/prompt/confirm) are not widely used and not under active development?

  If there is a need to display some simple confirmation popup, most developers would rather install jQuery, find some dialog plugin for it, skin it, than put a one liner: if(confirm("Are you sure?")) { ... } Using alert() for displaying error messages is considered cheap. And how many sites can you name that are usingprompt()? So, the question is: Is there something wrong with those dialogs so they should be avoided? Yes they have (very) limited functionality and customization, but when you don't need anything fancy, is using js dialogs still a bad practice? Why these dialogs haven't seen any improvement in past 10 years (probably longer) and none is planned for near future? Wouldn't it be nice to have native js access to fully customizable desktop-level dialogs? At least adding error/warning/info type of dialogs and adding ability to customize button captions would be a big help.

  I'm writing a shared addin for Excel. It adds a CommandBarButton that when clicked opens a WPF window to collect some information from the user. I wanted to keep the same WPF dialog in memory and reuse it so that if the user clicks the CommandBarButton again their previous values would still be there. So I made a reference to my WPD as a private member of my addin object that implements Extensibility.IDTExtensibility2. I created the window during OnStartupComplete(), but for some reason when I run Excel the window immediately opens even though I never called ShowDialog() and when I do call ShowDialog() when the CommandBarButton is clicked to reOpen the window it fails to load. Does anyone know why this happens and what the correct way to handle this is? Thanks very much for any help.

• Why are not all texts of my MFC applicatiopn displayed using ClearType?

  I've got an MFC application that is built with VC6. When ClearType is enabled (Windows XP) some texts are rendered smoothly, i.e. with ClearType, and others are not. Dialog texts don't seem to ever get rendered with ClearType. Some list controls, however, have it enabled completely, others only in their headers. What could be the reason for this? Where should I look to find out why it works only in some places and doesn't in others?

  We're developing a browser-based warehouse app that needs to print labels and invoices regularly. We want to be able to print to the local printer without going the the usual browser print dialogs. Is this possible? Possibly using a greasemonkey userscript? We don't want to have to setup a whole CUPS printer network and deal with all that, but warehouse pickers having to click through a print dialog 1000 times a day isn't an option. We're printing PDFs, not sure if that matters. If we could do this another way using HTML5 or something else I'm open to course changes or other ideas here.

• IE downloads and installs CAB dialog popup upon every page refresh

  I have a signed cab on an aspx page. I am seeing the following inconsistent behavior. Any insights would be highly appreciated. On some machines, the cab is downloaded and installed on every page refresh. On few of those machines, the IE "install cab" dialog pops up on every page refresh, while on the others it pops up only once. Additional info: The CAB contains a .NET DLL The CAB is slightly large (around 30 MB), hence recurring download behavior is a pain Target browsers are IE6 and IE7, and the behavior is common to both!

  I am getting this error in my sys.transmission_queue table whenever I attempt to send a SQL Service Broker message between two different SQL Server servers. (i.e. the databases are on two different physical machines) Dialog security is unavailable for this conversation because there is no security certificate bound to the database principal (Id: 5). Either create a certificate for the principal, or specify ENCRYPTION = OFF when beginning the conversation When this error refers to "database principal" what is it referring to? (the "master" database? dbo user?) I've used the CREATE CERTIFICATE command, backed up the certificate and created a same named certificate on the other server with the backup .cer file from the first server, but I keep getting this message. Any help would be appreciated in getting me pointed in the right direction. I must be missing something obvious. FYI, in my development environment, both the initiating and target databases were on the same physical server, and same SQL instance, and everything was working fine.

  Hey everyone This is a real newbie question. I have simple app that selects a picture and display's that picture in a PictureBox. I decided to mess with the Opacity Attribute so I added a timer and created this cool effect where the Main Form's Opacity is increased by 20% every 400 miliseconds. The problem is that now when I click the button that invokes the Select File Dialog Box I'm getting a NullReferenceException error. private void tmrClock_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (ViewerForm.ActiveForm.Opacity != 1) { ActiveForm.Opacity = ActiveForm.Opacity + .20; } } The error message is pointing to the if statement.   Windows 7 allows you to select multiple files to open at once by using ctrl or shift key. The "File Name" input field at the bottom of the dialog box would auto populate with the following sample: "aaa.txt" "bbb.txt" "ccc.txt" "ddd.txt" I have 14,000 files in a folder and I only need a range of files (approx 500). When I use the shift key to select a range of files, the "File Name" field auto populates all 500 file names. Windows would cut me off at the 260th character when I try to paste in a pre-generated string into the "File Name" field. Is there a way to bypass the 260 character limit so it would accept my entire string with 500 file names?

  I've been reviewing the draft version of the upcoming C++0x standard. Specifically the section on lambdas, and am confused as to the reasoning for not introducing polymorphic lambdas. That polymorphic lambdas are too hard to implement? Or perhaps that they are seen as not being needed by the PTB?

I would like this "continue" button to only be enabled once all the fields have content in them else it will remain disabled.   hi guys, i'm new to the asp.net mvc. and i have a link which will popup show a 3 panes listbox which allows the user to select country, region and language. and when the user click on the language, this will redirect back to the controller and refresh the page and show the proper localized content. i was thinking of using a jquery dialog/modal to do this but so i try using fancybox for this which will load the hidden div of the three listbox up. unfortunately, on clicking on the first listbox, the page will call a jquery event which will show the populate the 2nd list box in which the lightbox will close. is there a better way to do this? or i'm not using the proper jquery plugin? i was thinking of putting the whole three panes inside a html file and do ajax call to get the content into that page and load the listbox like that and just use the html popup like a normal popup. Any suggestions? i'm stuck, help!!
