The fogbugz plugin for visual studio opens up a tab right next to your regular code tabs with in it the fogbugz window. Tiny bit lame if you ask me, but I can accept that.
Is there a way however to make that tab pinned? So I cannot accidently close it and it will stay the first tab at all times?
I'm running Visual Studio 2008 on Windows 7. When I try to attach to a process, VS tells me to restart under different credentials (with elevated permissions).
So I have to restart VS and run it as Administrator. Is there a way to set it up so VS always starts with Admin privileges?
I'm trying to install Install MS Visual Studio 2008 Team Foundation in XP but during the installation the setup request Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1.
I have install TFS 2008 SP1, but nothing have change. I can not install Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 because because the OS is in XP.
Any ideas?
Hi,
sometimes after logging out and in again, my settings in Tools/Options/Projects and Solutions/VC++ Directories are lost.
To investigate the problem I tried to find the file where Visual Studio (2008 Team) stores those settings on disk. (Or is it in the registry?) Can anybody point me to where it is?
Thanks a lot!
I have an XML file that lists a series of items, and the items are often referenced by their name in code.
Is there any way to use reflection within Visual Studio to make this list 'accessible' sort of like intellisence? I've seen it done before - and I'm pretty sure it's ridiculously difficult, but I figure it can't hurt to at least ask.
At work we have a solution with over 90 projects. I want to know if there is a way to stop visual studio from compiling as soon as it encounters an error. Normally it will compile as far as it can and show a list of errors in the error window.
Any ideas?
Hi,
I like using Visual Basic for C++. I'm a student
I noticed the web development feature in it, and I was wondering if it is any good for web design, maybe if someone has used it or does use it if they can give a few words on weather or not it's worth learning?
I have been using Dreamweaver as my platform for web design.
So pretty much I'm asking Dreamweaver VS Visual Studio for webdesign, pros and cons?
I followed the instructions here:
https://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/develop/python/tutorials/django-with-visual-studio/
However, whenever I try to open the url to my web app in the cloud I get a 500 error.
The tutorial doesn't mention setting up the TEMPLATE_DIRS setting in the django application or doing any work on the cloud service machine to install python/django. Could these be the problem?
Hi,
I publish my application on a FTP server. I gave the FTP account information (URL, user and password) to Visual Studio but it keep asking me the FTP password each time I click the Publish now button.
Why VS doesn't automatically fullfill my password?

Badly needed your help. Thank you
My company is suffering some deployment issues, where we'd be greatly benefited if distributed source files were tagged with their current source control version, or the date/time they were checked in.
Is there a way in Visual Studio to do this automatically?

But nothing there works for me.
I've written an app that is very simple in C#. I want this to compile to a stand alone exe file, but I can't seem to find the proper settings to do this. Everything compiles into a publish folder and there is only the setup/install files.
Thanks!
I need to install the ExcelPackage library on Visual Studio 2008. The .zip file I downloaded from their website (http://excelpackage.codeplex.com) contains a .dll, a .xml file, a "GacReg.exe" and a file called ExcelPackage (with this description: "Program Debug Database"). What are the steps to installing this library, or any library in general? I appreciate the help.
Hi,
I have a Visual Studio (2008) project where I have some files added as links (through Add Existing Item-Add As Link). Suppose I want to copy this project somewhere else (give it to another developer, release source code, etc.) and I would like to "convert" all these links to actual copies of these files. Is this possible? How can I do this in VS or is there some 3rd party utility to do that?
Thanks.
After creating a batch file in visual studio, I get an error when I run it about invalid characters. Does anyone know the default character encoding for txt files?
I've been very upset these past years with all the UML tools (especially the clunky mammoth Rational Rose from IBM which I really hated each time a client asked to use it). I think UML did suffer from bad integration. I rarely used UML myself because of lack of productivity.
So I had a positive surprise with Visual Studio 2010 especially the sequence diagram reversing tool which really helps understand code.
For people who had tried VS 2010 Ultimate do you think the same ?
When creating a new .resx file anywhere in my solution, I would like the following properties to be other than the default:
Copy to Output Directory: Copy if newer
Custom Tool namespace: Booking.Resources
Access Modifier: public
Is there any way I can change the default Visual Studio behavior on creation of these files, so I don't have to make the above changes manually each time?
While editing HTML/ASPX/ASCX etc; whenever I select an html tag, visual studio highlights the entire tag in black and bold; the black I'm not so fussed about but the bold changes the length of the line and really messes up the formatting.
Is there a way to disable this?
Thanks,
Chris
What is your favorite Visual Studio keyboard shortcut? I'm always up for leaving my hands on the keyboard and away from the mouse!
One per answer please.
After full fresh Windows XP system reinstallation, I've installed SQL Server 2008 R2 and Visual Studio 2010. Soon I've found that I also have some very handicapped version of VS 2008 IDE installed as a part of VS2010 or SQLServer. At the same time there are a lot of interesting projects on the Web still targeting VS2008. Can I install a full-featured VS 2008 now, without it breaking something (for example by replacing some files with older versions)?
We are using Visual Studio 2008.
We have a solution with ca. 1000 tests. We run the tests from a script which produces a trx file.
Two of our tests timeout, due to what looks like a database lock. When we run the tests alone, they run fine.
How can we findout which tests were run just before the ones that are getting the timeout?
Gah! this is really causing me hassle today. Suddenly without warning '@' (at symbol) and '"' (double quote) are trading places on my keyboard but ONLY in Visual Studio 2008 !!!
I can't seem to find anything in help or online to explain/remedy this. Is there some keyboard shortcut I am inadvertantly executing??
I rebooted my PC and it went away for an hour or two and then suddenly came back.
Oh the insanity :(
Possible Dupe: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2624589/visual-studio-express-2010-license
Sorry for newbie question, but
I saw there was some license file on ISO image and it tells it wont allow me to develop commercial software , but there was Free registration, and I think that after registration I can develop application on it for free .
Correct me if I'm not right or Tell me if I am :) thanks.
