  • Distorted text in programs

    - by Teneff
I've installed Ubuntu 11 with gnome and in some point the text in the programs becomes unreadable like this. It's not only the text, but even the desktop background looks awful. I've tried to add section in xorg.conf, but it didn't helped out. Section "Device" Identifier "g33/X3000" Driver "intel" BusID "PCI:0:2:0" Option "ModeDebug" "on" Option "MonitorLayout" "LCD,VGA" Option "DevicePresence" "true" EndSection And this is what the lshw returns about the VGA *-display description: VGA compatible controller product: 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 2 bus info: pci@0000:00:02.0 version: 02 width: 32 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: msi pm vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom configuration: driver=i915 latency=0 resources: irq:16 memory:dfe00000-dfe7ffff ioport:8800(size=8) memory:e0000000-efffffff memory:dfe80000-d$

  • Address search from large text file

    - by user73809
Basically I want to develop a Address lookup(part of my project) using C# (and I can use SQL if necessary). I have a very large text file which have all the UK address and postcodes. Addresses needs to be looked up from this text file. For example, as soon as a user type in the first letter of the postcode it should list all the postcodes starting with that letter and as they type in further, the list should narrow down. Could you guys please how I can do this search very fast and list the results in a efficient way. If you guys know any methods and technologies pls do advice.

  • How to remove text from file icons ?

    - by Jesse
I am fairly new to Ubuntu (Linux). I noticed when creating a .java file or .py gives me an icon, however when I start writing code it overrides the thumbnail into showing text. Is there a way to disable this silly feature ? When I installed Linux Mint on the VM I noticed I was able to accomplish this task by unchecking "Show text in icon". I know they use Namo as their file manager. I read this thread and it did not work. How to stop Nautilus from creating thumbnails of specific file types?

  • Link two or more text boxes in Visio

    - by Dan
I am working on creating a template in Visio 2007 (Professional). Each page should reflect a document number and a revision number (two text boxes). I would like to make the template such that entering or changing text in one of these boxes on one page will automatically update the equivalent text boxes on all other pages. Is there an easy way to link two (or more) text boxes to show the same data (mirror each other)? I've looked into creating a ShapeData set and then using the ShapeData field in place of each box, but this will require training others to access and adjust the ShapeData field. In short - I want the issue that was attempting to be solved in Changing Text in Visio Org Chart Shape Changes Multiple Shapes' Text .

  • Writing long line support for text editor

    - by Mathematician82
I know that some some text editors have problems to show long lines https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=172099 . What is the best way to fix the bug or are they equally well? Modify the GTK+ source code and add a support for long lines. Modify the text editor source code such that it does not use GTK+ if it meets a long line. Split the long lines into part (maybe by cut on the Bash ) I'm just a junior programmer so I don't know what people does when they meet a bug that is on the library they use.

  • Is there a difference between plain text emails, and multipart emails with only plain text?

    - by Brian Armstrong
I'm using Rails to send emails and I just want to send a plain text email (there is no corresponding HTML part). I've noticed that if I just have one file named email.text.plain.erb it actually generates a multipart email with one part (the plain text part) like this: Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary=mimepart_4c04a2d34c4bb_690a4e56b0362 --mimepart_4c04a2d34c4bb_690a4e56b0362 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: Quoted-printable Content-Disposition: inline text of the email here... --mimepart_4c04a2d34c4bb_690a4e56b0362-- But if I take out the text.plain part and name it email.erb ActionMailer generates a regular plain text email without multipart like this: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 text of the email here... Both work fine most of the time (so this is kind of nitpicky), but I guess my question is whether the second one is more correct. My goal here is just to make sure deliverability is as high as possible across a wide variety of devices and email clients. I've read that plain text emails can have slightly better deliverability rates than html and was just curious if throwing in this multipart (even if it only contained a plain text part) might throw off some of the dumber email clients. Thanks for your help!

  • Compressing a web service response for jQuery

    - by SirDemon
    I'm attempting to gzip a JSON response from an ASMX web service to be consumed on the client-side by jQuery. My web.config already has httpCompression set like so: (I'm using IIS 7) <httpCompression directory="%SystemDrive%\inetpub\temp\IIS Temporary Compressed Files" staticCompressionDisableCpuUsage="90" staticCompressionEnableCpuUsage="60" dynamicCompressionDisableCpuUsage="80" dynamicCompressionEnableCpuUsage="50"> <dynamicTypes> <add mimeType="application/javascript" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="application/x-javascript" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="text/css" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="video/x-flv" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="application/x-shockwave-flash" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="text/javascript" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="text/*" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="application/json; charset=utf-8" enabled="true" /> </dynamicTypes> <staticTypes> <add mimeType="application/javascript" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="application/x-javascript" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="text/css" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="video/x-flv" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="application/x-shockwave-flash" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="text/javascript" enabled="true" /> <add mimeType="text/*" enabled="true" /> </staticTypes> <scheme name="gzip" dll="%Windir%\system32\inetsrv\gzip.dll" /> </httpCompression> <urlCompression doDynamicCompression="true" doStaticCompression="true" /> Through fiddler I can see that normal aspx and other compressions work fine. However, the jQuery ajax request and response work as they should, only nothing gets compressed. What am I missing?

  • How to start matching and saving matched from exact point in a text

    - by yuliya
I have a text and I write a parser for it using regular expressions and perl. I can match what I need with two empty lines (I use regexp), because there is a pattern that allows recognize blocks of text after two empty lines. But the problem is that the whole text has Introduction part and some text in the end I do not need. Here is a code which matches text when it finds two empty lines #!/usr/bin/perl use strict; use warnings; my $file = 'first'; open(my $fh, '<', $file); my $empty = 0; my $block_num = 1; open(OUT, '>', $block_num . '.txt'); while (my $line = <$fh>) { chomp ($line); if ($line =~ /^\s*$/) { $empty++; } elsif ($empty == 2) { close(OUT); open(OUT, '>', ++$block_num . '.txt'); $empty = 0; } else { $empty = 0;} print OUT "$line\n"; } close(OUT); This is example of the text I need (it's really small :)) this is file example I think that I need to iterate over the text till the moment it will find the word LOREM IPSUM with regexps this kind "/^LOREM IPSUM/", because it is the point from which needed text starts(and save the text in one file when i reach the word). And I need to finish iterating over the text when INDEX word is fount or save the text in separate file. How could I implement it. Should I use next function to proceed with lines or what? • c# warn if text box is empty or contains a non-whole number

    - by Jamaul Smith
    In my specific case, I need the value in propertyPriceTextBox to be numeric only, and a whole number. A value also has to be entered, and I can just Messagebox.Show() a warning and that's all I'd need to do. This is what I have so far. private void computeButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { decimal propertyPrice; if ((decimal.TryParse(propertyPriceTextBox.Text, out propertyPrice))) decimal.Parse(propertyPriceTextBox.Text); { if (residentialRadioButton.Checked == true) commisionLabel.Text = (residentialCom * propertyPrice).ToString("c"); if (commercialRadioButton.Checked == true) commisionLabel.Text = (commercialCom * propertyPrice).ToString("c"); if (hillsRadioButton.Checked == true) countySalesTaxTextBox.Text = ( hilssTax * propertyPrice).ToString("c"); if (pascoRadioButton.Checked == true) countySalesTaxTextBox.Text = (pascoTax * propertyPrice).ToString("c"); if (polkRadioButton.Checked == true) countySalesTaxTextBox.Text = (polkTax * propertyPrice).ToString("c"); decimal result; result = (countySalesTaxTextBox.Text + stateSalesTaxTextBox.Text + propertyPriceTextBox.Text + comissionTextBox.Text).ToString("c"); } else (.) MessageBox.Show("Property Price must be a whole number."); }

  • Is C# development effectively inseparable from the IDE you use?

    - by Ghopper21
I'm a Python programmer learning C# who is trying to stop worrying and just love C# for what it is, rather than constantly comparing it back to Python. I'm really get caught up on one point: the lack of explicitness about where things are defined, as detailed in this Stack Overflow question. In short: in C#, using foo doesn't tell you what names from foo are being made available, which is analogous to from foo import * in Python -- a form that is discouraged within Python coding culture for being implicit rather than the more explicit approach of from foo import bar. I was rather struck by the Stack Overflow answers to this point from C# programmers, which was that in practice this lack of explicitness doesn't really matter because in your IDE (presumably Visual Studio) you can just hover over a name and be told by the system where the name is coming from. E.g.: Now, in theory I realise this means when you're looking with a text editor, you can't tell where the types come from in C#... but in practice, I don't find that to be a problem. How often are you actually looking at code and can't use Visual Studio? This is revelatory to me. Many Python programmers prefer a text editor approach to coding, using something like Sublime Text 2 or vim, where it's all about the code, plus command line tools and direct access and manipulation of folders and files. The idea of being dependent on an IDE to understand code at such a basic level seems anathema. It seems C# culture is radically different on this point. And I wonder if I just need to accept and embrace that as part of my learning of C#. Which leads me to my question here: is C# development effectively inseparable from the IDE you use?

  • PPTP server connection closes - Too much data?

    - by Sebastian Hoitz
I set up a PPTP server for my company. However, every time I have another computer connected to this server (i.e. our backup server) and a lot of data gets transferred, the connection to this computer closes. In the syslog on the PPTP server I find this message: Apr 22 12:44:34 komola-chase pptpd[2581]: CTRL: Reaping child PPP[2583] Apr 22 12:44:34 komola-chase pppd[2583]: MPPE disabled Apr 22 12:44:34 komola-chase pppd[2583]: Connection terminated. • Best video codec to store my own collection

    - by Jack
Hello! I think this question has already been asked but with different flavours. My problem resised in the fact that my camera (Canon G9) creates video with almost raw codec (I think it's plain old MPEG) so a 10 minutes video is almost 900mb. I would like to convert them in a format that has a good trade-off between space and quality, but I would prefer having the quality as good as the original (of course this is not possible because of lossy compression) just saving as much space is possible with a minimal lose of quality. Which codec should I look for? H264? It seems to be the champion of the moment.. otherwise which other ones could I try? XviD? Which parameters should I use? I mean how many kbits/s is a fair good bitrate to keep high quality? And what about audio codec? video specs are 640x480 at 30fps or 1024x768 at 15fps.. thanks in advance!

  • Why is IIS 7.5 seeing some requests as HTTP/1.0?

    - by Zhaph - Ben Duguid
While trying to work out why Static File Compression wasn't working on one of our IIS servers, the error was coming back as "NO_COMPRESSION_10" which translates to: Server not configured to compress 1.0 requests Looking at the requests in Fiddler, I can see that I'm requesting HTTP 1.1, but everything is being sent back as HTTP 1.0: Request (from chrome, captured via Fiddler): GET /css/reset.css HTTP/1.1 Host: [-----].com Connection: keep-alive Cache-Control: max-age=0 If-Modified-Since: Tue, 16 Oct 2012 15:04:34 GMT User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.11 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/23.0.1271.95 Safari/537.11 Accept: text/css,*/*;q=0.1 Referer: http://[-----].com/ Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate, sdch Accept-Language: en-GB,en;q=0.8,en-US;q=0.6 Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.3 Response from IIS: HTTP/1.0 200 OK Cache-Control: no-cache, no-store Pragma: no-cache Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8 Expires: -1 Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.5 X-AspNet-Version: 4.0.30319 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET Date: Tue, 11 Dec 2012 11:57:03 GMT Connection: close Content-Length: 108837 Other servers with the same host that I'm running this site on all respond with HTTP/1.1. How can I persuade IIS to respond with HTTP/1.1 rather than HTTP/1.0? Edit to add: Digging deeper, I can see that some responses from the server are indeed being returned compressed, so I guess really I'm trying to work out why talking to this particular server from our office seems to result in it seeing 1.0 requests, while other servers at the same co-loc don't?

  • Concatenating gziped Apache logs

    - by markdrayton
We rotate and compress our Apache logs each day but it's become apparent that this isn't frequently enough. An uncompressed log is about 6G, which is getting close to filling our log partition (yep, we'll make it bigger in the future!) as well as taking a lot of time and CPU to compress each day. We have to produce a gziped log for each day for our stats processing. Obviously we could move our logs to a partition with more space but I also want to spread the compression overhead throughout the day. Using Apache's rotatelogs we can rotate and compress the log more often -- hourly, say -- but how can I concatenate all the hourly compressed logs into a running compressed log for the day, without decompressing the previous logs? I don't want to uncompress 24 hours' worth of data and recompress it because that has all the disadvantages of our current solution. Gzip doesn't seem to offer any append or concatenate option but perhaps I've missed something obvious. This question suggests straight shell concatenation "works" in that the archive can be decompressed but that gzip -l doesn't work seems a bit dodgy. Alternatively, perhaps this is still a bad way to do things. Other suggestions are welcome -- our only constraints are our relatively small log partitions and the need to provide a daily compressed log.

  • SQL 05 full-text query fails "Specified module could not be found."

    - by Dan Bailiff
I'm running SQL 2005 on Windows XP. I have a database table that has full text searching enabled. I was able to build and even re-build the index. However, when I try to query it like this: Select * from fulltext_english WHERE CONTAINS(page_data, 'causes') I get this error: Msg 7619, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The execution of a full-text query failed. "The specified module could not be found." Did I miss something on the install? Is this a dll issue? I've googled and binged for days and can't find anything similar to this message. Thanks!

  • NTFS-compressing Virtual PC disks (on host and/or guest)

    - by nlawalker
I'm hoping someone here can answer these definitively: Does putting a VHD file in an NTFS-compressed folder on the host improve performance of the virtual machine, diminish performance, or neither? What about using NTFS compression within the guest? Does using compresssion on either the host or the guest lead to any problems like read or write errors? If I were to put a VHD in a compressed folder on the host, would I benefit from compacting it? I've seen references to using NTFS compression on quite a few VPC "tips and tricks" blog posts, and it seems like half of them say to never do it and the other half say that not only does it save disk space but it actually can improve performance if you have a fast CPU and your primary performance bottleneck is the disk.

  • logrotate compress files after the postrotate script

    - by Thomas
I have an application generating a really heavy big log file every days (~800MB a day), thus I need to compress them but since the compression takes time, I want that logrotate compress the file after reloading/sending HUP signal to the application. /var/log/myapp.log { rotate 7 size 500M compress weekly postrotate /bin/kill -HUP `cat /var/run/myapp.pid 2>/dev/null` 2>/dev/null || true endscript } Is it already the case that the compression takes place after the postrotate (which would be counter-intuitive)? If not Can anyone tell me if it's possible to do that without an extra command script (an option or some trick)? Thanks Thomas
