• Does this video card support sound?

  Probably a rookie question but here goes...I am looking to buy a new video card for a few year old PC which will be used as a media centre. The card I am looking at is this one http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173708, with the main aim being to play blu-ray films. In the product description it states that the card has 7.1 audio channel support, does this mean it will play the sound from the blu-ray through the HDMI, or do I need a separate sound card?

• SSH to drive letter in Windows 2003

  I have a Windows 2003 server running a SSH server (WRQ Reflection), how would I ssh to it and specify a specific drive letter? (like the D: drive) ex: from another workstation: ssh [email protected] d: When I do that it fails and I get this error: "exec request failed on channel 0" If I simply SSH to that same windowsbox without trying to specify a drive letter I get a Windows (CMD.EXE) command prompt shell on the C: drive. I can then run any windows command. Thanks

• Why can I no longer pin tabs in Google Chrome?

  I am using the latest dev channel version of Chrome in Ubuntu 9.10. Before Chrome automatically updated a few days ago, I had the option to pin tabs. This option no longer appears when I right-click on a tab. Is anyone else having these problems? If not, any idea what I can do to fix this? Thanks.

• RSS to e-mail notifications?

  There's a web site that's supposed to upload a video I'd like to watch but it could be in several weeks. The only way to be notified of any change is through RSS, but I don't use RSS at all, so installing an RSS client just for this seems overkill. Unless there's a better solution I should know about, do you know of a good, free solution on the web that will watch the RSS channel and send me an e-mail when a new item was added? Thank you.

• Color sprite tint with opacity in MonoGame/XNA

  In MonoGame I am using SpriteBatch to draw sprites. I want to create a semi transparent overlay that would 'tint' the sprite with a given color. SpriteBatch.Draw accepts Color parameter that allows to specify the tint, however the alpha channel seems to make the whole sprite transparent (not the tint only). To address the problem i am overlaying my sprites with another white, semitransparent sprite tinted to a given color. It works as expected, but I am not sure if that is the correct (ie. most optimal) approach. Can you suggest better/faster technique?

  Hi! In Hungary, the biggest TV channel is RTL Klub, they has a video archive site. They use Silverlight instead of Flash :( What is annoying, they use the lastest version of Silverlight, about 4.x. But Moonlight doesn't support it yet. I've been tried in Google Chrome (last dev version), and in Firefox (last stable version), and I've been used the both versions of Moonlight, the lastest stable, and the prerelease. The player loader is displayed, and loaded, but no player displayed after 30 mins waiting. If I want to swith to Ubuntu completly, how can I manage to play these videos? Thanks for your anwsers. • Getting WCF Bindings and Behaviors from any config source

  The need of loading WCF bindings or behaviors from different sources such as files in a disk or databases is a common requirement when dealing with configuration either on the client side or the service side. The traditional way to accomplish this in WCF is loading everything from the standard configuration section (serviceModel section) or creating all the bindings and behaviors by hand in code. However, there is a solution in the middle that becomes handy when more flexibility is needed. This solution involves getting the configuration from any place, and use that configuration to automatically configure any existing binding or behavior instance created with code.  In order to configure a binding instance (System.ServiceModel.Channels.Binding) that you later inject in any endpoint on the client channel or the service host, you first need to get a binding configuration section from any configuration file (you can generate a temp file on the fly if you are using any other source for storing the configuration).  private BindingsSection GetBindingsSection(string path) { System.Configuration.Configuration config = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.OpenMappedExeConfiguration( new System.Configuration.ExeConfigurationFileMap() { ExeConfigFilename = path }, System.Configuration.ConfigurationUserLevel.None); var serviceModel = ServiceModelSectionGroup.GetSectionGroup(config); return serviceModel.Bindings; }   The BindingsSection contains a list of all the configured bindings in the serviceModel configuration section, so you can iterate through all the configured binding that get the one you need (You don’t need to have a complete serviceModel section, a section with the bindings only works).  public Binding ResolveBinding(string name) { BindingsSection section = GetBindingsSection(path); foreach (var bindingCollection in section.BindingCollections) { if (bindingCollection.ConfiguredBindings.Count > 0 && bindingCollection.ConfiguredBindings[0].Name == name) { var bindingElement = bindingCollection.ConfiguredBindings[0]; var binding = (Binding)Activator.CreateInstance(bindingCollection.BindingType); binding.Name = bindingElement.Name; bindingElement.ApplyConfiguration(binding); return binding; } } return null; }   The code above does just that, and also instantiates and configures the Binding object (System.ServiceModel.Channels.Binding) you are looking for. I don’t like this approach but so far I haven’t found a good and fast solution to use Unit Test for testing a WCF behavior. In this case I used a ServiceBehavior. To add an Endpoint behavior you have to add it to the endpoints. 1: host.Description.Endpoints[0].Behaviors.Add(new MyEndpointBehavior()) To add a contract or an operation behavior a custom attribute should work on the service contract definition. I haven’t tried that yet.   All the code provided in this blog and in the following files are for sample use. Improvements I don’t like to instantiate a client and a service to test my behaviors. But so far I have' not found an easy way to do it. Today I am passing a type of endpoint to the host creator and it creates the right binding type. This allows me to easily switch between bindings at will. I have used the same approach to test Mex Endpoints, another post should come later for this. Enjoy !

• Google Now is One Step Closer to Becoming Active in Google Chrome

  Many people have been eager to have Google Now working in their Chrome browsers and this week that dream got one step closer to reality. The first teasers that the new feature is becoming active have started to appear, so now is a good time to activate the switch for it and be ready for its arrival. You will need to be running the Dev Channel on your computer and enable the Google Now switch via Chrome Flags (chrome://flags/) if you have not already done so. The switch will be towards the bottom of the list. Once that is done restart your browser. After the browser has restarted you will see a notification window pop up as seen in the first screenshot above. Click Yes and a second small pop up message window will appear letting you know more about the freshly enabled feature. Unfortunately we were not able to catch a screenshot of the second message window before it disappeared.
