• What skills should a developer/tester learn in order to move into a permanent Systems Analysis role?

  I have been with a software services firm for 5 years and have fallen into a "jack of all trades" role, which I am looking to move out of. I've spent about 1 year each in programming (VB/VB.NET), application support, systems analysis, and most recently, software testing, which in my current position is all manual. I've really lost interest in the programming and testing roles; I would prefer a position where I get to work more with people, such as systems analysis. I even got a chance to be a trainer at the same company for a few months, a temporary position which I enjoyed very much. Given that most of my real experience is with software, support, and testing, what knowledge areas and skills should I focus on learning and mastering in order to make myself an attractive candidate for a permanent position as a business/systems analyst?

That same method returns a complex type which WSC converted into nested NSDictionaries, so no problems there. So I assumed I'd be able to convert my local TestItemResponse class into an NSDictionary and then use that as the complex type param. It almost worked, but unfortunately WSC set the object's type as "Dictionary", instead of "TestItemResponse", and the server complained. <TestItemResponse xsi:type=\"SOAP-ENC:Dictionary\"> <ErrorFullDescription xsi:type=\"xsd:string\">foo</ErrorFullDescription> ... I can't seem to find anything that allows you to override the type WSC assigns to the element in the SOAP XML. I've been using code adapted from here, I'm happy to list it, it's just quite long and this is already the longest SO question I've ever posted.

• SHAREPOINT: Custom Field type property storage defined for custom field

  ok here is a great question. I have a set of generic custom fields that are highly configurable from an end user perspective and the configuration is getting overbearing as there are nearly 100 plus items each custom field allows you to perform in the areas of Server/Client Validation, Server/Client Events/Actions, Server/Client Bindings parent/child, display properties for form/control, etc, etc. Right now I'm storing most of these values as "Text" in my field xml for my propertyschema. I'm very familiar with the multi column value, but this is not a complex custom type in sense it's an array. I also considered creating serilzable objects and stuffing them into the text field and then pulling out and de-serilizing them when editing through the field editor or acting on the rules through the custom spfield.   I'm trying to define a class (or set of classes which implement the same interface) that will behave as a loosely typed object (like JavaScript). They can hold any sort of data and operations on them depend on the underlying type. I have it working in three different ways but none seem ideal. These test versions only allow strings and integers and the only operation is add. Adding integers results in the sum of the integer values, adding strings concatenates the strings and adding an integer to a string converts the integer to a string and concatenates it with the string. The final version will have more types (Doubles, Arrays, JavaScript-like objects where new properties can be added dynamically) and more operations.   I am working with django 1.6, python 2.7, firefox 30 and Mac OS 10.10 Beta. When I render the following code <video width="570" height="340" controls="controls"> <source src="/some/path/" type="video/mp4" /> </video> I get an error stating "No video with supported format and mime type found". The same code runs perfectly on Safari and Chrome (yes I still haven't checked IE). I have tried different formats for the uploaded files and looked into ad-ons which might prevent this or different coding mechanisms, though nothing has been helpful. Please help!!!!

• I am trying to zip files individually, but the file type is unknown

  I am trying to zip some files with an unknown file type individually. I am using the following code in a batch script to do that: @ECHO OFF FOR %%A IN (bestbuy*nat*component.cpi*) DO "C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe" a -mx9 -m0=lzma2:d256m "%%~nA.7z" "%%A" The code will compress files individually ONLY if the file has an extension. Unfortunately the files that I have don't have any extension. In the code I am trying to zip files by doing a pattern match, the files are getting compressed into ONE file (which I do not want, I want each file compressed individually). Why does this code create separate zip files when the files have an extension (for example if I add .txt to the end of the files) and when there is no extension the code creates one zipped file. Can anyone please help me with the code to compress files with unknown file type so that each file gets compressed individually Your help would be greatly appreciated. Jason

• Office 365 Powershell - Export user, license type, and company field to csv file

  I need to be able to export user name or email address (doesn't matter which), company (from the company field under the organization tab in a user account of the exchange admin console), and license type (e.g. exchange online e1, exchange online kiosk etc...) I am able to export both values in two statements into two separate files but that doesn't do me much good. I can export the username and license type with the following: Get-MSOLUser | % { $user=$_; $_.Licenses | Select {$user.displayname},AccountSKuid } | Export-CSV "sample.csv" -NoTypeInformation And, I can get the company values with the following: Get-User | select company | Export-CSV sample.csv Someone on another forum suggested this - $index = @{} Get-User | foreach-object {$index.Add($_.userprincipalname,$_.company)} Get-MsolUser | ForEach-Object { write-host $_.userprincipalname, $index[$_.userprincipalname], $_.licenses.AccountSku.Skupartnumber} That seems like it should work but it doesn't display any license info in my powershell, it's just blank. Also I wouldn't know how to export that to a csv file. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

• Nano suddenly putting in weird characters when I type

  I am using a shell and editing a file in nano (similar to pico). A short while ago, it started doing this thing where if I type: $query = "select" * from topics where id='' "; and then I hit Backspace and try to stick the letter 'a' into the id='' part, it changes it to: $query = "select * from koala_topics where id='a='' "; and the cursor jumps around to a few spaces before. Also if I type print At the start of a new line, and then I think "Oh I should have added a tab" and I go back and try to add a tab, it adds a tab AND 2 spaces, and if I put the cursor through the word print, it turns into printnt. Some other weird things have happened too. I uninstalled nano using yum (which is how I installed it), and then re-installed it, thinking that would get me clean preferences (in case that was the problem) but it doesn't fix it.

  I use a Mac with French keyboard, and I have installed a Windows 7 as virtual machine. Now I would like to type Chinese in this Windows 7. The normal input method for Chinese within Windows 7 allows me to input Chinese, but does not work perfectly, because it does not recognize I am using a French keyboard - it presumes I am using a English keybord... So for some keys, what I type on the keybord is not what the input method gives on the screen... Could anyone help on this?

• Wireless Keyboard Intermittent Failure to Type and Added Characters

  My keyboard has been acting up from time to time. It's wireless so this may be a wireless issue. What happens is I will be typing and then all of a sudden it seems to stop responding. If I type out this sentence it may show up like so If I ttennnnnnnnn it may ssssssp so While typing that sentence I may have to mash on a key repeatedly to get it to type. The resulting strings of letters seem to be coming as if the keyboard buffer cannot keep up. It's so weird. If I take the USB tranceiver and yank it out then plug it back in, Voila! Problem solved. I did the battery check so that's not a problem. Any suggestions? My keyboard is the Logitech MX3200

• Filtering Security Logs by User and Logon Type

  I have been asked to find out when a user has logged on to the system in the last week. Now the audit logs in Windows should contain all the info I need. I think if I search for Event ID 4624 (Logon Success) with a specific AD user and Logon Type 2 (Interactive Logon) that it should give me the information I need, but for the life of my I cannot figure out how to actually filter the Event Log to get this information. Is it possible inside of the Event Viewer or do you need to use an external tool to parse it to this level? I found http://nerdsknowbest.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/filter-security-event-logs-by-user-in.html which seemed to be part of what I needed. I modified it slightly to only give me the last 7 days worth. Below is the XML I tried. <QueryList> <Query Id="0" Path="Security"> <Select Path="Security">*[System[(EventID=4624) and TimeCreated[timediff(@SystemTime) &lt;= 604800000]]]</Select> <Select Path="Security">*[EventData[Data[@Name='Logon Type']='2']]</Select> <Select Path="Security">*[EventData[Data[@Name='subjectUsername']='Domain\Username']]</Select> </Query> </QueryList> It only gave me the last 7 days, but the rest of it did not work. I can get it to produce the results correctly until I add in the LogonType line. After that, it returns no results. Any idea why this might be? EDIT 2 I updated the LogonType line to the following: EventData[Data[@Name='LogonType'] and (Data='2' or Data='7')] This should capture Workstation Logons as well as Workstation Unlocks, but I still get nothing. I then modify it to search for other Logon Types like 3, or 8 which it finds plenty of. This leads me to believe that the query works correctly, but for some reason there are no entries in the Event Logs with Logon Type equalling 2 and this makes no sense to me. Is it possible to turn this off?

  In my operating systems class we were shown a picture depicting a hierarchy of memory starting from most expensive and fastest at the top and least expensive and slowest at the bottom. At the very top was registers and underneath it was cache. The professor said that the best place to run programs is in cache. I was wondering why programs can't be run in registers? Also, how can a program load itself into cache? Isn't the cache something that's controlled by the CPU and works automatically without software control?

My question is if selinux is in permissive mode will selinuxtype=targeted enforce any polices? if not how did it solve the problem with apache as selinux was already in permissive mode?

• Why cant i install ANY operating system??

  I tested the memory and i tested the hard disk and everything is fine! Mini XP booted from Hirens Boot Disk works :( I tried Windows 7, Windows XP SP3 and even Ubuntu 10.04 :( All Operating Systems boots up to the point where they can load necessary files to start the OS and then resets the laptop Windows 7, only up to the point where the Windows Loading Animation is happening Ubuntu, only up to the point where the loading is done, shows a small screen and then goes to a blinking cursor and thats it... it keeps on blinking and sometimes resets the computer Windows XP SP3, loads all the drivers and everything and then the point where i should be able install the OS, it simply resets the laptop :( I have used the word reset instead of restart because the laptop completely turns off and then only turns back in Any solutions would be greatly appreciated

  Since most operating systems I've heard of besides Windows seem to derive their heritage from Unix, I've been curious whether any OS's with the following characteristics exist: Not generally considered Unix-like, i.e. wasn't designed with Unix compatibility as a primary goal, doesn't use X11 as its default GUI in the most common distributions, doesn't support Unix commands by default, etc. Not in the Windows NT family. Is a modern production operating system, not a purely legacy operating system, a research/hobby project or an OS that's still in an alpha state. Is targeted at commodity x86/x64 PC hardware.

• Firefox's searchbox clears as I type

  About 30% of the time, when I click on the searchbox and type in a query, it clears everything I typed half way through. For example, if I type "super user", it will clear at "super " so all I see is "user". It seems like something is stuck, but I'm not sure what. It doesn't always happen, but it seems that the auto-suggestions feature is also broken..it never works. I'm using Ubuntu 10.4. Any ideas on what could be wrong?   Somebody I know expressed irritation today regarding those of us who tend not to use spaces in our filenames, e.g. NamingThingsLikeThis.txt -- despite most modern operating systems supporting spaces in filenames. Are there technical reasons that it's still common to see file names without (appropriate) spaces? If so, what are these technical reasons that spaces in filenames are avoided or discouraged, and in what circumstances are they relevant? The most obvious reason I could think of, and why I typically avoid it, are the extra quotes required on the command line when dealing with such files. Are there any other significant technical reasons?

• Sony Vaio: I can't type 'less and greater than' signs in TR keyboard layout

  I have a strange trouble with my Sony Vaio VPCCW21FX. My laptop has a Turkish Q keyboard and I'm using TR keyboard layout on Windows 7 x64 Home Premium. The problem is, I cannot find a usual way to type less than or greater than signs unless I switch to EN keyboard layout. These signs are showed on the keyboard together with the Turkish letters "Ö" and "Ç", as you can see from the below photo of my laptop's keyboard. So, how can I type these signs without switching to EN keyboard layout? I tried Fn and Alt keys but it doesn't work. I need to use TR layout since I need Turkish letters while writing my documents and e-mails.

• How to install Windows 8 in a system which has Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7 installed already?

  I have a system in which I have installed Windows 7 first. I then installed Ubuntu 12.04 to the system. Now, the boot manager is GRUB Loader and everything works fine as Ubuntu detected that Windows 7 has been installed already. Now, I would like to install Windows 8 too. I plan to install using a bootable USB stick(doesn't matter which medium I prefer though. Does it? ). I have done some research and all the materials I can get state that I cannot practically install Windows 8 after Ubuntu and get all the three OSs to run. Can you help? I want all the three Operating systems to work perfectly.

• Foremost custom file type not accepted by -t argument

  I'm trying to recover a deleted file on an ext3 file system using the foremost utility. The file I want to recover is a hpp C++ source code file. However, foremost does not automatically support the hpp file extension, so I have to add it to the config file. So, following the instructions on the man page, I add the following line to the config file: hpp n 50000 include include ASCII Then I run foremost as follows: $foremost -v -T -t hpp -i /dev/md0 -o /home/recover/ Instead of doing anything, it just displays the help message. If I change the hpp to htm or jpg, it works. So apparently foremost isn't accepting the custom file type I added into the config file. But I've looked over this dozens of times now, and I can't see what I'm doing wrong. I'm following the instructions exactly. Why doesn't foremost recognize the new file type I added to the config file?
