• How to select part of a text that exists already in an above cell

  Hi, In MS Excel, consider i have the word 'Microsoft' in a cell. And in the cell below I want to type the word 'Microhard'. When I start typing Microhard, the word Microsoft appears shaded in black. Now how can I select the part 'Micro' alone from Microsoft and type 'hard' alone. Hope my question is clear. Same question I thought the question should belong to SuperUser so posting it here. Ignore if duplicate.

  On March 10th, 2012 the first ever PowerShell Saturday conference took place in Columbus, OH and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome.  We had 100 attendees from 10 different states (the biggest surprise to me) come to see 6 speakers present on a variety of PowerShell topics: introduction, WMI, SharePoint, Active Directory, Exchange, 3rd party products and more.      A big thank you also goes out to a number of people. • Application Event Log keeps getting corrupted

  I recently asked about repairing a corrupt event log, because it seemed to be a one-off event. The event log has since exhibited the same behavior 3 times. We have been trying to find patterns, but so far we have found nothing. The server runs several ASP.NET applications and three scheduled tasks written in .NET. The last modified date of the event log once happened to be the same time as one of the scheduled tasks, but the others have not been. Any suggestions of where to look next or a way we can get any information out of a corrupt evtx file? The server is running critical e-commerce applications, so we want to keep the number of restarts required to a minimum. There was rapid innovation and growth in that field even though internet itself was quite nascent. Remember ICQ? Well, then came around the sharks! They offered you free versions of IM programs that in the short run were actually superior. Yahoo messenger, MSN, AIM and then later on google.  Innovation in IM was pretty much stand still until a new contender like skype decided to marry IM with telephony. • Valid concerns over shared developer team

  Say your company is committed (and don't want to consider not doing this) to sharing/pooling a development team across a handful of business units. What would you setup as concerns/expectations that must be cleared before doing this? For example: Need agreement between units on how much actual time (FTE) is allocated to each unit Need agreement on scheduling of staff need agreement on request procedure if extra time is required by one party etc... Have you been in a situation like this as a manager of one unit destined to use this? If so, what were problems you experienced? What would you have or did implement? Same if you were the manager of the shared team. Please assume, for discussion, that the people concerned know that you can swap devs in and out on a whim. I don't want to know the disadvantages of this approach; I know them. I want to anticipate issues and know how to mitigate the fallout.

• Oracle VM RAC template - what it took

  In my previous posting I introduced the latest Oracle Real Application Cluster / Oracle VM template. I mentioned how easy it is to deploy a complete Oracle RAC cluster with Oracle VM. In fact, you don't need any prior knowledge at all to get a complete production-ready setup going. Here is an example... I built a 4 node RAC cluster, completely configured in just over 40 minutes - starting from import template into Oracle VM, create VMs to fully up and running Oracle RAC. And what was needed? 1 textfile with some hostnames and ip addresses and deploycluster.py. The setup is a 4 node cluster where each VM has 8GB of RAM and 4 vCPUs. The shared ASM storage in this case is 100GB, 5 x 20GB volumes. The VM names are racovm.0-racovm.3. The deploycluster script starts the VMs, verifies the configuration and sends the database cluster configuration info through Oracle VM Manager to the 4 node VMs. Once the VMs are up and running, the first VM starts the actual Oracle RAC setup inside and talks to the 3 other VMs. I did not log into any VM until after everything was completed.   I'm running 12.10 with xmonad. Trying to ensure that the right things happen when I close laptop lid, etc. I see Internet search results for similar issues that mostly point towards gnome-power-manager. I have the package installed, but gnome-power-manager is not in my path anywhere. The behavior I'm looking for is as following: Sleep on lid close Awaken on lid open Turn off screen after 10 idle minutes Most importantly, have better battery life. I'm supposed to be getting 9 hours and I haven't seen the battery life estimate above 2.5 hours yet. Any tips on where to look or how to configure this would be much appreciated.

• apt changelog for to-be installed packages

  GUI update-manager is able to show the "changelog" of packages to-be installed (not downloaded yet). I also found out how to provide the .changelog files in the right place for update-manager to show them, and now I'm happy since I'm able to tell my clients that they can see changelogs of my custom packages directly from their gui. Unfortunately I'm not able to find any command line tool to do the same thing and that would be more useful on servers. From what I saw it seems that this convention (putting .changelog files directly alongside the .deb files in the apt repo) is a ubuntu specific extension. There are some debian resources (the reprepro man page for example) which point on a different way to store changelogs online, http://packages.debian.org/changelogs Does anybody know if there already exists a tool like apt-cache to show the changelogs from packages which are not yet installed (nor downloaded) ?

• What is the best way to prove a processor is overheating / running too hot?

  Hello all! recently I noticed that my sister's laptop was getting very very hot when it sat on my lap, she had also complained that it just turned off on her without warning... so I decided to run Coretemp and Everest to test processor temperature.(It is an AMD Athlon X2... not sure what it runs at.) It seemed to idle around 75-80 Celsius and under 100% load it peaked at 115 ! I realize that laptops run a lot hotter than desktop but I think that is ridiculously hot...am I right? Anyway... Her laptop is still under warranty and I was wondering what is the best way to prove to future shop that it is running that hot. Should I give them a printout of a stress test or something like that? Or should I just bring it in to them and tell them what I think is wrong and let them test it. Thanks for the help!

  Internet of Things & Commerce Series: Part 3 (of 3) And now for the final installment my three part series on the Internet of Things & Commerce. Post one, “The Next 7,000 Days”, introduced the idea of the Internet of Things, followed by a second post interviewing one of our chief commerce innovation strategists, Brian Celenza.  This final post in the series is an interview with Kristen J. Flanagan, lead product manager for Oracle Commerce omnichannel strategy. She takes us through the past, present, and future of how our Commerce Solution is re-imagining the way physical and digital shopping come together. ------- QUESTION: It’s your job to stay on top of what our customers’ need to not only run their online businesses effectively, but also to make sure they have product capabilities they can innovate and grow on. What key trend has been top-of-mind for you and our customers around this collision of physical and digital shopping? Kristen: I’ll agree with Brian Celenza that hands down mobile has forced a major disruption in shopping and selling behavior. A few years ago, mobile exploded at a pace I don't think anyone was expecting. Early on, we saw our customers scrambling to establish a mobile presence---mostly through "screen scraping" technologies. As smartphones continued to advance (at lightening speed!), our customers started to investigate ways to truly tap in to their eCommerce capabilities to deliver the mobile experience. They started looking to us for a means of using the eCommerce services and capabilities to deliver a mobile experience that is tailored for mobile rather than the desktop experience on a smaller screen. In the future, I think we'll see customers starting to really understand what their shoppers need and expect from a mobile offering and how they can adapt their content and delivery of that content to meet those needs. And, mobile shopping doesn’t stop at the consumer / buyer. Because the in-store experience is compelling and has advantages that digital just can't offer, we're also starting to see the eCommerce services being leveraged for mobile for in-store sales associates. Brick-and-mortar retailers are interested in putting the omnichannel product catalog, promotions, and cart into the hands of knowledgeable associates. Retailers are now looking to connect and harness the eCommerce data in-store so that shoppers have a reason to walk-in. I think we'll be seeing a lot more customers thinking about melding the in-store and digital experiences to present a richer offering for shoppers.    QUESTION: What are some examples of what our customers are doing currently to bring these concepts to reality? Kristen: Well, without question, connecting digital and brick-and-mortar worlds is becoming tablestakes for selling experiences. If a brand has a foot in both worlds (i.e., isn’t a pureplay online retailer), they have to connect the dots because shoppers – whether consumers or B2B buyers –don't think in clearly defined channels anymore. The expectation is connectedness – for on- and offline experiences, promotions, products, and customer data. What does this mean practically for businesses selling goods on- and offline? It touches a lot of systems: inventory info on the eCommerce site, fulfillment options across channels (buy online/pickup in store), order information (representing various channels for a cohesive view of shopper order history), promotions across digital and store, etc.  A few years ago, the main link between store and digital was the smartphone. We all remember when “apps” became a thing and many of our customers were scrambling to get a native app out there. Now we're seeing more strategic thinking around the benefits of mobile web vs. native and how that ties in to the purpose and role of mobile within the digital channel. Put it more broadly, how these pieces fit together in the overall brand puzzle.  The same could be said for “showrooming.” Where it was a major concern (i.e., shoppers using stores to look at merchandise and then order online from Amazon), in recent months, it’s emerged that the inverse is now becoming a a reality as well. "Webrooming" (using digital sites to do research before making a purchase in the store) is a new behavior pure play retailers are challenged with. There are many technologies, behaviors, and information that need to tie together to offer a holistic omnichannel shopping experience. As a result, brands are looking for ways to connect the digital and in-store experiences to bridge the gaps: shared assortments across channels, assisted selling apps that arm associates with information about shoppers, shared promotions, inventory, etc. QUESTION: How has Oracle Commerce been built to help brands make the link between in-store and digital over the last few years? Kristen: Over the last seven years, the product has been in step with the changes in industry needs. Here is a brief history of the evolution: Prior to Oracle’s acquisition of ATG and Endeca, key investments were made to cross-channel functionality that we are still building on today. Commerce Service Center (v2007.1) ATG introduced the Commerce Service Center in 2007.1 and marked the first entry into what was then called “cross-channel.” The Commerce Service Center is a call-center-agent-facing application that enables agents to see shopper orders, online catalog, promotions, and pricing. It is tightly integrated with the eCommerce capabilities of the platform and commerce engine and provided a means of connecting data from the call center and online channels.  REST services framework (v9.1)  In v9.1 we introduced the REST services framework and interface in the Platform that enabled customers to use ATG web services in other applications. This framework has become the basis for our subsequent omni-channel features and functionality. Multisite Architecture (v10) With the v10 release, we introduced the Multisite Architecture, which enabled customers to manage multiple sites (and channels) within a single instance of the BCC. Customers could create site- and channel-specific catalogs, promotions, targeters, and scenarios. Endeca Page Builder (2.x) / Experience Manager (3.x) With the introduction of Endeca for Mobile (now part of the core platform, available through the reference store – see blow) on top of Page Builder (and then eventually Experience Manager), Endeca gave business users the tools to create and manage native and mobile web applications. And since the acquisition of both ATG (2011) and Endeca (2012), Oracle Commerce has leveraged the best of each leading technology’s capabilities for omnichannel commerce to continue to drive innovation for our customers. Service enablement of core Oracle Commerce capabilities (v10.1.1, 10.2, & 11) After the establishment of the REST services framework and interface, we followed up in subsequent releases with service enablement of core Oracle Commerce capabilities throughout the iOS native app and the enablement of the core Commerce Service Center features. The result is that customers can leverage these services for their integrations with other systems, as well as their omnichannel initiatives.  Mobile web reference application (v10.1) In 10.1 we introduced the shopper-facing mobile reference application that showed how to use Oracle Commerce to deliver a mobile web experience for shoppers. This included the use of Experience Manager and cartridges to drive those experiences on select pages.  Native (iOS) reference application (v10.1.1)  We came out with the 10.1.1 shopper-facing native iOS ref app that illustrated how to use the Commerce REST services to deliver an iOS app. Also included Experience Manager-driven pages.   Assisted Selling reference application (v10.2.1)  The Assisted Selling reference application is our first reference application designed for the in-store associate. This iOS app shows customers how they can use Oracle Commerce data and information to provide a high-touch, consultative sales environment as well as to put the endless aisle into hands of their associates. Shoppers can start a cart online, and in-store associates can access that cart via the application to provide more information or add products and then transact using the ATG engine. Support for Retail promotions (v11) As part of the v11 release, we worked with teams in the Oracle Retail Global Business Unit (RGBU) to assess which promotion types and capabilities are supported across our products. Those products included Oracle Commerce, Oracle Point of Service (ORPOS), and Oracle Retail Price Management (RPM). The result is that customers can now more easily support omnichannel use cases between the store and digital.  Making sure Oracle Commerce can help support the omnichannel needs of our customers is core to our product strategy. With 89% of consumers now use two or more channels to make a single purchase, ensuring that cross-channel interactions are linked is critical to a great customer experience – and to sales. • Xna Equivalent of Viewport.Unproject in a draw call as a matrix transformation

  I am making a 2D sidescroller and I would like to draw my sprite to world space instead of client space so I do not have to lock it to the center of the screen and when the camera stops the sprite will walk off screen instead of being stuck at the center. In order to do this I wanted to make a transformation matrix that goes in my draw call. I have seen something like this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3570192/xna-viewport-projection-and-spritebatch I have seen Matrix.CreateOrthographic() used to go from Worldspace to client space but, how would I go about using it to go from clientspace to worldspace? I was going to try putting my returns from the viewport.unproject method I have into a scale matrix such as: blah = Matrix.CreateScale(unproject.X,unproject.Y,0); however, that doesn't seem to work correctly.   What do I do after the bounding box test against a tile to determine whether there is a real collision against the contents of that tile? And if there is, how should I move the object in response to that collision? I have a small object, and test for collisions against the tiles that each corner of it is on. • 2013 U.S. GAAP Financial Reporting Taxonomy Available for Public Review and Comment

  FASB recently released the proposed 2013 U.S. GAAP Reporting Taxonomy. Comments are due October 29, 2012 to be finalized and published early 2013.  The proposed 2013 U.S. GAAP taxonomy and instructions on how to submit comments are available at the FASB’s XBRL page. In previous blog entries, I talked about how Oracle Hyperion Disclosure Management supports the latest taxonomy, enabling financial managers to easily comply with the latest filing requirements. The taxonomy is a list of computer-readable tags in XBRL that allows companies to annotate the voluminous financial data that is included in typical long-form financial statements and related footnote disclosures. The tags allow computers to automatically search for, assemble, and process data so it can be readily accessed and analyzed by investors, analysts, journalists, and regulators. You do not have to have Oracle Hyperion Financial Management, used for consolidating financial results, to generate XBRL. You just need Oracle Hyperion Disclosure Management to generate XBRL instance documents from financial applications, such as Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle PeopleSoft, Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, and Oracle Fusion General Ledger. To generate XBRL tags and complete SEC filings using your existing financial applications with Oracle Hyperion Disclosure Management, here are the steps: Download the XBRL taxonomy from the SEC or XBRL Website into Hyperion Disclosure Management to create a company taxonomy. Publish financial statements from the general ledger to Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word. Create the SEC filing in the Microsoft programs and perform the XBRL tag mapping in Oracle Hyperion Disclosure Management. Ensure that the SEC filing meets XBRL and SEC EDGAR Filer Manual validation requirements. Validate and submit the company taxonomy and XBRL instance document to the SEC. • nginx php-fpm uploaded files have nginx ownership after executing move uploaded file

  I have a problem with php 5.3.6 using PHP-FPM and file uploads. My Nginx runs as user nginx PHP-FPM uses pools configured for each vhost. For example a user: test group : test runs one pool. When the php file uploads to temp file it is owned by user test. After move_uploaded_file is executed by php script it is owned by nginx :/. The reason for this could be the fact that the original upload file script does an exec('/usr/bin/php do_uploadedfiles.php') which does the actual moving. I do not know if the change in ownership to web server is the correct behaviour. Is there a way in PHP to change the ownership back to the user I want? Maybe make exec "run as"?

• Links for Getting Started with PowerShell for Office 365 and Exchange Online

I will report back when it is done going through its process to let you know if it is in fact the 13.10 update. Update 2: System went through an update, but it wasn't for the OS. I think it was an update for the error message mentioned above. Now the OS update is currently running the 'distribution upgrade' portion of the update. This is further than it had gone before. Again I will report back once this is done to let you know whether or not the update was successful. Final Update: Don't know for sure what happened, but I'm almost sure that the error mentioned above was resolved in the first update prior to the 13.10 update. All set.

• Unable to fix broken packages with sudo apt-get install -f

  Here's my result, of sudo apt-get install -f. i have Ran it twice and got negative result. I believe there is an error at "error in Version string '0:3.6.1-dates for language English Translation data updates for all supported packages for: English" This same statement "error in Version string, caused me three days of attempting to download version 12.04. There is a bug report concerning the quoted text as well. Is there anyway to download the version without the language packs, why would I corrupt version 11.10? Also, when attempting to download Synaptic using sudo apt-get install synaptic, I get the same error message. Again I point out the initial download problems and the same error message receipt.
