• Respecting EXIF orientation when displaying iPhone photos on the web

  I am developing an iPhone camera app that uploads an image to Amazon S3 and that image is displayed on a website. When the iPhone takes a picture, it always saves the photo in an upright orientation, while the orientation used to correctly view the photo is saved in the image's EXIF data. So if I take a photo with the iPhone and open it in FireFox without processing the EXIF data, the image could be sideways or upside down. My problem is that I don't know how to display the photo in it's correct orientation on the website. My current solution is to rotate the photo in the iPhone app, but I'd rather not do that. Is there anyway to respect the EXIF data when displaying on the web without pre-processing the image?

  Hey guys, Trying to set a background image for a table view cell, tried almost everything but failing. Hoping someone would notice what I am doing wrong. • QGrid display default "loading" message when updating a table / on custom update

  I have a case where I need to update a jqgrid based on some search criteria which the user selects. I can get the data to update , but I would want the loading message to show while the new data is being fetched. Can someone please let me know how to get that working ? Feedback is welcome. I think have come up with two naive algorithms that find the heaviest length-constrained path in a weighted Binary Tree. Firstly, the description of the algorithm is as follows: given an n-vertex Binary Tree with weighted edges and some value k, find the heaviest path of length k. For both algorithms, I'll need a reference to all vertices so I'll just do a simple traversal of the Tree to have a reference to all vertices, with each vertex having a reference to its left, right, and parent nodes in the tree. Algorithm 1 For this algorithm, I'm basically planning on running DFS from each node in the Tree, with consideration to the fixed path length. In addition, since the path I'm looking for has the potential of going from left subtree to root to right subtree, I will have to consider 3 choices at each node. But this will result in a O(n*3^k) algorithm and I don't like that. Algorithm 2 I'm essentially thinking about using a modified version of Dijkstra's Algorithm in order to consider a fixed path length. Since I'm looking for heaviest and Dijkstra's Algorithm finds the lightest, I'm planning on negating all edge weights before starting the traversal. Actually... this doesn't make sense since I'd have to run Dijkstra's on each node and that doesn't seem very efficient much better than the above algorithm. So I guess my main questions are several. Firstly, do the algorithms I've described above solve the problem at hand? I'm not totally certain the Dijkstra's version will work as Dijkstra's is meant for positive edge values. Now, I am sure there exist more clever/efficient algorithms for this... what is a better algorithm? I've read about "Using spine decompositions to efficiently solve the length-constrained heaviest path problem for trees" but that is really complicated and I don't understand it at all. Are there other algorithms that tackle this problem, maybe not as efficiently as spine decomposition but easier to understand? Thanks.

  In my Symfony application I would like to choose the routing.yml based on the current user's culture; 'en' => routing.en.yml 'no' => routing.no.yml and so forth. Any suggestion to how this can be done? Edit: I am not trying to do i18n this way - I use Symfony's built-in methods for that. I simply want "static" urls to reflect the user's language: /en/projects/internal/project-name /no/prosjekter/interne/prosjektnavn /fr/baguette/champs-elysee/foux-de-fafa Where "projects" is a module, the category "internal" and "project-name" are stored in the database.

• How to automatically include generated source files into a C# project in Visual Studio?

  I have a situation where I need to generate a bunch of C# code files in a prebuild step of a project and include the generated files into the current project for compilation. Is there a way to do this cleanly without having to muck with the project file every time the prebuild step is run? My solution should work for both IDE based build and a Team Build based on MSBuild. Since both are MSBuild based, I suspect there won't be much difference; but wanted to call it out. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

• C#: How do I get the path of the assembly the code is in?

  Is there a way to get the path for the assembly in which the current code resides? I do not want the path of the calling assembly, just the one containing the code. Basically my unit test needs to read some xml test files which are located relative to the dll. I want the path to always resolve correctly regardless of whether the testing dll is run from TestDriven.NET, the MbUnit GUI or something else. Edit: People seem to be misunderstanding what I'm asking. My test library is located in say c:\projects\myapplication\daotests\bin\Debug\daotests.dll and I would like to get the "*c:\projects\myapplication\daotests\bin\Debug*" path. • Replicating MySQL DB to development machine - bad idea?

  I am considering replicating a production MySQL database to my development machine so I've always got current data. The production database is externally hosted. My development machine is behind an unreliable internet connection. It is entirely possible that the development machine could be disconnected from the internet for extended periods of time (hours). Would there be any adverse effect on the production database by doing this? (I don't strictly need live data - but it would be nice, and good excuse to dabble with replication. If the consensus is that this is a bad idea, I'll set up a daily job to import the previous night's backup into my development database)

My current environment is: Ruby 1.9.1 Rake 0.8.7 Albacore 0.1.4 The problem is that as of now all my rake build throw a funny little exception: undefined method 'push' for #<Enumerator:0x???????> So far I have traced the problem to albacore msbuild.rb line 38 and 26. To be honest I just don't have a clue why this is happening. The address The separator (current situation requires 2 spaces but this might be a comma or a space followed by a comma) or something else (it varies). The address part I want to return (i don't always need all parts of the split result). I seem to be able to find a few examples of splitting functions about the internet but they return a table containing the entire set of split parts. My SQL skills aren't that great so I need the answer to be ultra simple. I'm always working with nvarchar data and the function needs to be reusable.

  If I were to extricate my current membership provider from my solution, i.e. as a dll and expose it as a web service with it's own db, how would I model the relationships with regards to SOA design. For example I have a table: USER id, name, lastname, username, password, role. and table PRODUCT id, name, price, createdate, userid the foreign key being userid to table user. How would I model the relationship and/or query the db. If I wanted to get all products that were uploaded today for example, before I would query: SELECT u.name, u.lastname, u.username, p.* FROM PRODUCT p INNER JOIN USER u ON p.userid = u.id WHERE createdate = '05/05/2010' Now that I don't have the table within the database how would I perform this query? • Automated payment notification with php

  I'm about to integrate automated payments into a site. To date, I've successfully used paypal for a number of projects, but these have always been sites which sell physical goods, meaning I can upload the cart contents, user pays, person physically ships goods. This site is a one off payment to enable extra features on a web app. My current thinking is to go down the paypal IPN route to get a notification back and update the users account based on the successful payment. Question is in two parts: 1 - is there a better / simpler way? (any payment processor considered) 2 - does anyone know of a code library or plug in for php which will speed up my integration?   Hi, Below is the user interface I have created to simulate LDPC coding and decoding The code sequence is decoded iteratively by passing values between the left and right nodes through the connections. The first thing it would be good to add in order to improve visualization is to add arrows to the connections in the direction of passing values. The alternative is to draw a bigger arrow at the top of the connection showing the direction. Another thing I would like to do is displaying the current mathematical operation below the connection (in this example c * H'). What I don't know how to do is displaying special characters and mathematical symbols and other kinds of text such as subscript and superscript in the figure (for example sum sign and subscript "T" instead of sign ="'" to indicate transposed matrix). I would be very thankful if anyone could point to any useful resources for the questions above or show the solution. Thank you.

• How can I render a custom view in a UIScrollView at varying zoom levels without distorting the view?

  The scenario: I have a custom view (a subclass of UIView) that draws a game board. To enable the ability to zoom into, and pan around, the board I added my view as a subview of UIScrollView. This kind of works, but the game board is being rendered incorrectly. Everything is kind of fuzzy, and nothing looks right. The question: How can I force my view to be redrawn correctly ay varying scales? I'm providing my view with the current scale and sending it a setNeedsDisplay message after the scroll view is done zooming in/out, but the game board is still being rendered incorrectly. My view should be redrawing the game board depending on the zoom level, but this isn't happening. Does the scroll view perform a generic transformation on subviews? Is there a way to disable this behavior?

  The mysqldump option --tab=path writes the creation script of each table in a separate file. But I can't find the stored procedures, except in the screen dump. I need to have the stored procedures also in separate files. The current solution I am working on is to split the screen dump programatically. Is there a easier way? • How can I determine if jquery tab is shown because of user click or from tab rotation

  I've been using the jQuery UI tabs for a bit now and an interesting request has come up. The current tab setup is using the rotation feature. I need to find a way to determine if the tab is shown because of the result of the rotation itself, or because a user physically clicked the tab. I've wired up all of the standard events, show and select and they fire regardless of the source of the tab change. Does anyone have any ideas? Basically I'd like to do something additional if the user clicked the tab, but not if the tab changes by itself via the rotation. If I wire up the click even to the tabs themselves it doesn't seem to get fired at all, I'm assuming because the tabs widget is using that event itself.

• State pattern: Why doesn't the context class implement or inherit the State abstract interface/class

  I'm reading about the State pattern. I have only just begun, so of course I begin by reading the entire Wikipedia article on it. I noticed that both of the examples in the article have some base abstract class or Java interface for a generic State's methods/functions. Then there are some states which inherit from the base and implement those methods/functions in different ways. Then there's a Context class which has a private member of type State and which, at any time, can be equal to an instance of one of the implementations. That context class also implements the same methods, and passes them onto the current state instance, and then has an additional method to change the state (or depending on design I understand the change of state could be a reaction to one of the implemented methods). Why doesn't this context class specifically "extend" or "implement" the generic State base class/interface?

  Suppose I have a VFM full of both focusable and non-focusable fields. Since most of them are spread out far apart, the movement from one focused field to another is jerky at best, even with NullFields in between. In other words, it just sets the current y position to the next focused field without smoothly scrolling the screen. What I want to achieve is to be able to scroll at a fixed rate between fields, so it it doesn't just focus from one to another that instantaneously. After reading up on how to do this, it is a matter of overriding moveFocus and setting it via a TimerTask from an accessor method to set moveFocus, as per this link. However, I haven't seen a practical implementation of how to do this, complete with the routines that are called in the TimerTask's thread. Is there any way to achieve this type of behavior?

Strangely this does not work. When I type cd ./a/d. The directory change works. However I cannot find out why the above does not work...
