• How do I change the default format of log messages in python app engine?

  I would like to log the module and classname by default in log messages from my request handlers. The usual way to do this seems to be to set a custom format string by calling logging.basicConfig, but this can only be called once and has already been called by the time my code runs. Another method is to create a new log Handler which can be passed a new log Formatter, but this doesn't seem right as I want to use the existing log handler that App Engine has installed. What is the right way to have extra information added to all log messages in python App Engine, but otherwise use the existing log format and sink?

• How to test the XML sent to a web service in Ruby/Rails

  I'm looking for the best way to write unit test for code that POSTs to an external web service. The body of the POST request is an XML document which describes the actions and data for the web service to perform. Now, I've wrapped the webservice in its own class (similar to ActiveResource), and I can't see any way to test the exact XML being generated by the class without breaking encapsulation by exposing some of the internal XML generation as public methods on the class. This seems to be a code smell - from the point-of-view of the users of the class, they should not know, nor care, how the class actually implements the web service call, be it with XML, JSON or carrier pigeons. For an example of the class: class Resource def new #initialize the class end def save! Http.post("http://webservice.com", self.to_xml) end private def to_xml # returns an XML representation of self end end I want to be able to test the XML generated to ensure it conforms to what the specs for the web service are expecting. So can I best do this, without making to_xml a public method?

• In App Purchase no valid Product IDs

  I'm trying to get In App Purchase with my existing iPad App working. I'm stuck retrieving the Product Information from App Store: - (void)productsRequest:(SKProductsRequest *)request didReceiveResponse:(SKProductsResponse *)response The SKProductsResponse only contains invalid Product IDs. I tried every potential solution I found here or on the net: my App ID has In App enabled I generated a new provisioning profile and installed it on my device I restarted the device my App ID is the same as in my Info.plist (it's in the Store since weeks) I added In App Purchases for the App with "cleared for sale" checked I added Screenshots to my In App Purchases I tried different naming schemes for the Product ID I made triple checked that I pass the correct Product ID to the SKProductsRequest I'm passing a NSSet to the SKProductsRequest instead of a MutableSet I updated my App with the upcoming version containing in App purchase and submitted it for Review I approved one of my In App Purchases, just to see if that helps I waited more than 24 hours All of these actions brought me nothing but invalid Product IDs. I hope someone can point me into the right direction, because I'm running out of ideas.

  As a personal project, I'm making an AJAX chatroom application using XML as a server-side storage, and JSON for client-side processing. Here's how it works: AJAX Request gets sent to PHP using GET (chat messages/logins/logouts) PHP fetches/modifies the XML file on the server PHP encodes the XML into JSON, and sends back JSON response Javascript handles JSON information (chat messages/logins/logouts) I want to eventually make this a larger-scale chatroom application. Therefore, I want to make sure it's fast and efficient. Was this a bad design choice? In this case, is switching between XML and JSON ok, or is there a better way?

One way to work around this is to hard-code (or configure) the URL specified in Alternate Access Mappings. Putting the correct URL in Alternate Access Mappings is ultimately the correct solution, but if possible, I need a work-around that doesn't require configuration.

• Rewrite rules doesn't work apache 1.3

  I'm using a couple of rewrite directives that always works before on apache2 but now i'm uploaded to a shared hosting and the rewrite rules do not seem to get applied. I've reduced the my .htaccess files to the following essential rules: RewriteEngine On Rewritebase /demo/ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php/$1 [L] As you can see, i want to rewrite every request to my index.php file in the demo folder from root. So everything like http://www.example.com/demo/albums/show/1 should be processed by http://www.example.com/demo/index.php for a standard MVC setup. (I'm using CodeIgniter btw) The directives above results in a 500 error, so i thought maybe because of some possible syntax differences between 1.3 and 2.x. After some trail and error editing, i've found the rewrite rule itself to be at fault but i really don't understand why. Any ideas to why my rewrite rule doesn't work? it did before on lots of different servers. Suggestions how to fix it? Note: mod_rewrite does work, i've written a small test to be sure.

However if I go to following url I can see that 16964 changeset has reviews assigned to it: http://fisheye.company.com/changelog/NameOfRepository?cs=16964 I also tried to use: http://fisheye.company.com/rest-service-fe/search-v1/reviewsForChangeset/NameOfRepository/ I got the same response. Am I missing something?

• Any open source hosting site for abandoned projects?

  I have some projects which I have ceased their development a long time ago but still get code access requests for. I'm currently providing zipped packages from my personal web site. I think zipped packages are far from being useful (e.g. can't read code right away, can't provide url's to individual source files, can't fork easily, lifetime is dependent on my own web page's). I want that archaic code to be present on the net regardless I keep my web page up or not. I saw the question "What's the best open source hosting site?". However, most sites request the project "to be active", Codeplex for instance. I didn't go through EULA's of all providers to see if they allow abandoned projects. Are there elephant's graveyards for old code without activity restrictions? Which one would you pick, why?

  Hi folks, I'm trying to mock up a fake ASP.NET Controller. I don't have any concrete controllers, so I was hoping to just mock a Controller and it will work. • Can I get information about the IIS7 virtual directory from Application_Start?

  I have 3 IIS7 virtual directories which point to the same physical directory. Each one has a unique host headers bound to it and each one runs in its own app pool. Ultimately, 3 instances of the same ASP.NET application. In the Application_Start event handler of global.asax I would like to identify which instance of the application is running (to conditionally execute some code). Since the Request object is not available, I cannot interrogate the current URL so I would like to interrogate the binding information of the current virtual directory? Since the host header binding is unique for each site, it would allow me to identify which application instance is starting up. Does anyone know how to do this or have a better suggestion?

• All site interaction through a single page

  Hi there I have an idea for a site where there would be no refreshing and all interactions take place via AJAX. The page would load with central space, where all interaction would take place. If a user clicked on a link, the page would request it via AJAX and replace the rectangle's content with the link content. The idea is effectively an AJAX implemented iframe. Are there any disadvantages with this approach? Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on the idea?   I am using autobench for doing becnhmark. An example of autobench command is as shown below. autobench --single_host --host1 testhost.foo.com --uri1 /index.html --quiet --timeout 5 --low_rate 20 --high_rate 200 --rate_step 20 --num_call 10 --num_conn 5000 --file bench.tsv** The uri which I have to specify has a query attached to it.   We have setup a .net application developed with .net framework 4.0 using MVC framework and WCF service on a Windows 2003, 32-bit server containing IIS 6 successfully. However, when the same application is set up on a Win 2008 R2, 64-bit server, we get the following error when the application is accessing the WCF service: No component for supporting the service was found Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: Castle.MicroKernel.ComponentNotFoundException: No component for supporting the service was found We have set the flag for Enable 32-bit apps in "Application Pool" to true on the 64-bit server.

• django + xmppy: send a message to two recipients

  I'm trying to use xmpppy for sending jabber-messages from a django-website. This works entirely fine. However, the message only gets sent to the -first- of the recipients in the list. This happens when I run the following function from django, and also if I run it from an interactive python-shell. The weird part though, is that if I extract the -body- of the function and run that interactively, then all the recipients (there's just 2 at the moment) get the message. Also, I do know that the inner for-loop gets run the correct count times (2), because the print-statement does run twice, and return two different message-ids.   I am trying to get my head around annotation based mappings and I am having some trouble mapping requests directly to jsp. Do all request have to go through a controller? Is it possible to make it just go to a jsp without declaring a RequestMapping for GET? I am using a InternalResourceViewResolver. • Accepting bank account information in a form

  What security concerns are there when accepting a user's bank account information (account number and routing number) via a form on a page that is using SSL, and posting it back to the server where I then curl off a HTTPS request to send that information to an ACH service like First ACH or ACH Direct via their API? We wouldn't be saving the bank account information in our database. I know another option is to use Paypal's Mass Pay API, but they think it's unprofessional (at least for their business) to require customers to have a paypal account to get paid. Thoughts?

• Injecting EntityManager Vs. EntityManagerFactory

  A long question, please bear with me. We are using Spring+JPA for a web application. My team is debating over injecting EntityManagerFactory in the GenericDAO(a DAO based on Generics something on the lines provided by APPFUSE, we do not use JpaDaosupport for some reason) over injecting an EntityManager. We are using "application managed persistence". The arguments against injecting a EntityManagerFactory is that its too heavy and so is not required, the EntityManager does what we need. Also, as Spring would create a new instance of a DAO for every web request(I doubt this) there are not going to be any concurrency issues as in the same EntityManager instance is shared by two threads. The argument for injecting EFM is that its a good practice over all its always good to have a handle to a factory. I am not sure which is the best approach, can someone please enlighten me? SB

  I'm having some trouble reading files with Indy from a site that has WordPress installed. It appears that the site is configured to redirect all hits to sitename/com/wordpress. Can I use HandleRedirect to turn that off so I can read files from the root folder? What is the normal setting for this property? Any downsides to using it for this purpose? (Edit: it appears that my problem may be caused by Windows cacheing of a file I've accessed before through Indy. I'm using fIDHTTP.Request.CacheControl := 'no-cache'; is that adequate?
