• Server outputs the sourcecode of PHP page

  I have a Shared Hosting package with HostGator. In it, I'm hosting around 4 websites. They are just some simple sites that doesn't likely to attract more visitors. But a few days ago, when I accessed one of my sites(via a browser), it outputted the PHP code of index.php, instead of outputting it as HTML. I think, at that time, the server was a bit busy or something. I heard that, Facebook also have got a similar condition where the home page's code was made available. So, how do I take preventive measures for this ? I always use phpBB forum's style of coding. That is, each sub pages, common functions, etc. are separated into subfolders. And in PHP, I would just include_once() or require_once() it. Also, these subfolders have a .htaccess file in which I have set the deny permission to the files inside it from outside. Also, in the main page(index), I would define a constant. And the first line of the subpages(which is situated in separate folders) is to check whether this constant is set. If not, calls die(). I am looking forward for solutions to this problem of outputting raw code when the page is accessed. Thanks in advance :)

  I've seen many examples of SSH tunnels on the nets, but I'm still having no luck with this. Here's the setup: Windows 7 PC in a private network, sitting behind a firewall, with PowerShellInsider SSH server set up and working fine. Public access Linux server, which has access to the PC. Windows 7 laptop, at home, from which I wish to do remote desktop on the PC. Now, here's what I've tried so far: SSH tunnel from my laptop to the Linux server: ssh -f my_user@LINUX_SERVER -L 6666:LINUX_SERVER_IP:6666 -N SSH to the Linux server where I've set up a tunnel to the PC: ssh -f 'PRIVATE_DOMAIN\my_user'@PC_NAME -L 6666:PC_IP:3389 -N Unfortunately, I must be doing something wrong, because it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas why or, at least, any suggestions on how can I try to debug this setup? At the moment, I have access to all 3 machines (non-root on Linux), so I can test whatever I want...

Router shows the MAC address of this client and I want to Access this computer in order to let him know that he's doing a wrong thing. I dont intent to do any harm to his data. I just want to know a method to send him a message saying "Buy you own wifi". How can I achieve this using a windows 8 computer.   My dad mentioned a co-worker suggested using a device, that might use CDMA to route calls through IP to save costs on a certain overseas project we're on- since our home base is quite far from there. I've never heard of such a device, so if it does exist, I'm wondering, if it's specific to particular ISPs, or if you can just pick one off the shelf, plug it into an arbitrary Internet connection, and make calls using it and a cellphone of some sort? As you can tell, details are sketchy, so... if such a device doesn't exist, saying so might be a right answer ;)

• Gentoo Linux -> Ubuntu: Can I Preserve My LVM/RAID Devices, Or Do I Need To Reformat?

  Hello: I've got a Gentoo box that I'm interested in switching over to an Ubuntu box. I currently have the partitions laid out using a mixture of RAID (mdadm) and LVM2, as specified in this document [1]. Ideally I'd like to just wipe out the non /home partition, as it's got data I'd like to keep. Is it possible to reuse the current setup, or do I need to restart? vgdisplay, vgchange -a y, etc don't yield any results from the Ubuntu LiveCD, and I'm wary to run any commands that might wipe my data. • Accessing the physical IP address of a computer on my network that is no longer available

  I'm trying to find out how to access the IP address of a computer (macbook pro) that I once had on my network at home. Does terminal store the 'connected' or 'linked' computer ID or IP of a networked computer anywhere that I can access after the laptop is no-longer within range? The laptop was part of my airport extreme network, its now out of range (stolen!), and I would like to know if its possible to discover the physical address of that laptop, even though I no-longer have physical access to the laptop. I have my airport extreme configured (somewhere??) to sniff out that laptop if it comes within range, and then connect to it. Where would this 'configured info' be stored on my desktop?

  I'm a long time ubuntu 10.04 LTS user, very used to having window controls on top left borders. New computer with new video card requires newer kernel. Unity doesn't suit and much googling turned up recommendations for xubuntu. Installed 12.04 and first aggravation is window controls at upper right a la Windows. No problem ... Settings Manager - Windows Manager - rearrange button layout Fixes everything until ... I abandoned firefox long ago because of memory leak issues and general fat. I fetch a current version of chrome (19.0.1084.52) and install. Once adblock is added and it's the default browser, everything's great. Except ...   I've read the documentation on scope, but I'm still having trouble working this out. I've got two environments that are very similar - so I've got: modules/django-env/manifests/init.pp class django-env { package { "python26": ensure => installed } # etc ... } import "er.pp" modules/django-env/manifests/er.pp $venvname = "er" $venvpath = "/home/django/virtualenvs" class er { file { "$venvpath/$venvname" : ensure => directory } # etc ... } class er-dev { include er } class er-bce-dev { $venvname = "er-bce" include er } manifests/modules.pp import "django-env" manifests/nodes.pp node default { # etc ... } node 'centos-dev' imports default { include django-env include er-bce-dev include er-dev } The result here is that the "inheritance" works - but only the first "er-" item under the 'centos-dev' node is acted upon, I either get er-bce-dev or er-dev, but not both. There must be some basic thing I'm misunderstanding here. Is it the difference between import and include ? (not sure I understand that)

  I work with OS X, Snow Leopard and need to allow users to make copies of files (templates) located in a read-only repository for subsequent editing. The repository is located on a separate physical drive mounted to the OS X boot volume. As this is a shared computer in a school environment, all users access the machine via a single login ("user_local"). Whether using POSIX permissions or ACLs, the use case requires the file permissions to change from "read" to "read write" as they get copied to the "user_local" home directory. Googling around has not yielded anything that would indicate that this is possible via the Snow Leopard permission system. Question 1: Is this in fact possible via the permission system? If so, how? Question 2: If not possible, how would one go about solving this problem? I imagine this to be a fairly common use case so there must be a workable solution for it out there. Thanks.

  I was trying to create a remote desktop connection from Windows XP to my Windows Vista Ultimate Addition machine at home. This normally works fine. Today after my connection was dropped, I tried to reconnect to my machine. It brings me to the normal startup screen, but when I tried to log in, it gave me the message "This network connection doesn't exist". This doesn't make much sense, as I have reached a Windows style login screen already. My connection returned later that day, but I'm curious as to what happened. Anyone see this before?

  This is one of the weirdest problems I've ever seen and I'm out of ideas. I cannot access a couple of websites from my home pc (for 3-4 days now), or at least they go really really slow ~700b/s I can access these same websites fine from my laptop from same IP address. - The websites originate from different countries and are huge popular sites. - I have tried both my PC's network cards. - I have reformatted my PC. - I have reset my router to factory settings. - I have created virtual computers on my PC, and from inside those I cannot access the webpages. - I have flushed my dns. - I tried specifying my dns server addresses to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. I can only access the webpages using my PC, if I first connect to an outside VPN. Again, these sites work fine on the 2 other pcs in this house (same ISP and internet connection). help plz :)

• How do I share a complete XP disk so it can be seen from a Windows 7 system?

  This should be easier! (both computers can see the internet etc so I know the network it’s self is working) I have a normal home network with a Windows XP machine on it and the new Windows 7 (64 bit) machine. So I can transfer the files to the new Windows 7 machine, I wish to share the complete disk (and all files) from the Windows XP machine and access them from the Windows 7 machine. Is there a step by step set of instructions for doing this anywhere? So fare I have: put both computers into the same workgroup put the windows 7 machine into work network mode so it can see the XP machine in the work group shared the XP disk as read only But when I try to access a lot of the folders on the XP disks, I am told I am not allowed to access them. (I was not asked for any passwords by the windows 7 machine when I accessed the XP machine. The XP machine just has its default account with no password set on it)

  I have a linux box running Debian server with minimal number of packages (so no GUI for network management). The box has two ethernet cards, one of which (eth0) is connected to a Mac OSX computer using a cross-cable. I can bring up eth0 and assign a static ip (10.10.11.16) to it. This way I can ssh to the box through the cross-cable. This is what I run on Linux box: ifconfig eth0 10.10.11.16 netmask 255.255.255.0 up I also installed/started a file server (AFS) on Debian. So far, the file server can only be accessed through eth1 which is exposed to my home LAN and www. My goal is to set up the file server so that it's only visible through eth0. Is this possible? and if yes, how can I do it?

  I searched for a simple way to create .deb Packages for things which have no source code to compile (configs, shellscripts, proprietary software). This was quite a problem because most of the package tutorials are assuming you have a source tarball you want to compile. Then I've found this short tutorial (german). Afterwards, I created a small script to create a simple repository. Like this: rm /export/my-repository/repository/* cd /home/tdeutsch/deb-pkg for i in $(ls | grep my); do dpkg -b ./$i /export/my-repository/repository/$i.deb; done cd /export/avanon-repository/repository gpg --armor --export "My Package Signing Key" > PublicKey apt-ftparchive packages ./ | gzip > Packages.gz apt-ftparchive packages ./ > Packages apt-ftparchive release ./ > /tmp/Release.tmp; mv /tmp/Release.tmp Release gpg --output Release.gpg -ba Release I added the key to the apt keyring and included the source like this: deb http://my.default.com/my-repository/ ./ It looks like the repo itself is working well (I ran into some problems, to fix them I needed to add the Packages twice and make the temp-file workaround for the Release file). I also put some downloaded .deb into the repo, it looks like they are also working without problems. But my self created packages didn't... Wenn i do sudo apt-get update, they are causing errors like this: E: Problem parsing dependency Depends E: Error occurred while processing my-printerconf (NewVersion2) E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/my.default.com_my-repository_._Packages E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. Has anyone an idea what I did wrong?

• How do I set up an sftp user to login with a password to an EC2 ubuntu server ?

  Hello, I have an Ubuntu Server running on an EC2 instance. To login to that server I use a certificate file without any password. I've installed and configured vsftpd and created a user (let's call him "testuser") for which I've set a /bin/false ssh terminal so it will only be able to connect via sftp and upload/access files on his home directory. However - when I try to connect to the server from my computer, running sftp testuser@my-ec2-server I get Permission denied (publickey). Connection closed messages so I can't log in. How can I remove the certificate requirement for this user only (meaning, the "ubuntu" user will still have to use the certificate file to login via ssh), so normal sftp clients will be able to connect using a username and a password ? Thank you. PS Using Ubuntu Server 10.10 official AMI from canonical, 64bit on a micro instance.

• git for personal (one-man) projects. Overkill?

  I know, and use, two version control systems: Subversion and git. Subversion, as of now, gets used for personal projects where I am the only developer and git gets used for open source projects and projects where I believe others will also work on the project. This is mostly because of git's amazing forking and merging capabilities, where everyone may work on their own branch; very handy. Now, I use Subversion for personal projects, as I think git makes little sense there. It seems to be a little bit of overkill. It is OK for me if it is centralized (on my home server, usually) when I am the only developer; I take regular backups anyway. I don't need the ability to make my own branch, the main branch is my branch. Yes, SVN has simple support for branching, but much more powerful support for it makes no sense, I think. Merging can be a pain with it, or at least from my little experience. Is there any good reason for me to use git on personal projects, or is it just simply overkill?

I am running Ubuntu 12.04-powerpc "Precise Pangolin" on a Mac PowerBook G4 with 1.67GHz processor. The firmware/driver for the wifi card is missing. For reasons not worth explaining, I cannot physically plug the computer into the network. I have another computer, a MacBook Pro running OSX, from which I can download files and port them by USB thumb drive. The wifi card in the PowerBook G4 is by Broadcom. The chip is BCM4306, rev. 3. The PCI number is 14e4:4302. I have downloaded b43-fwcutter_015-14_powerpc.deb and dropped it into the Home folder on the Ubuntu machine. However, it will not install. When I double-click, it opens with Ubuntu SoftwareCenter, but the "Install" button is inactive: I can't click it. There's a message beside the inactive button saying, "An older version of 'b43-fwcutter' is available in your normal software channels. Only install this file if you trust the origin." If I "right-click" the .deb file and open with Archive Manager, it shows me the "DEBIAN" and "usr" folders, but I'm unsure what to do from there...and fairly certain this is not the right way to do things. Maybe I have the wrong version of b43-fwcutter for my machine/version of Ubuntu? The documentation for this problem is a mess. It refers to all sorts of out-of-date Ubuntu versions and to an array of different "cutter" and firmware files. Maybe I'd be able to figure this out if I were a more seasoned Ubuntu user, but I have no idea why Sofware Center won't let me do the install. I would be VERY grateful for an explanation of how to get the wifi card working on this machine again. Thank you!
