  • Why "alt" attribute for <img> tag has been considered mandatory by the HTML validator .. ?

    Is there any logical or technical reason (with the W3C validation) for making alt as required attribute .. This is my actual problem:though my page is perfect enough with respect to W3C validation rules .. Only error I am getting is line XX column YY - Error: required attribute "ALT" not specified I know the significance of "alt" attribute and I have omitted that where it is unnecessary .. (to be more elaborate .. I have added the image to increase the beauty of my page and I don't want alt attribute to show irrelevant message to the viewer) getting rid of the error is secondary .. rather I am curious to know whether is it a flaw with validation rules .. ?? I thank stackOverflow and all the members who responded me .. I got my doubt clarified .. :-)

    Hi, Is there built in methods into .net framework to do the following: Get role GUID from user name/user GUID Get role name from role GUID So far I have been sending queries to the asp_roles and asp_users tables to obtain that information and I'm wondering if there is a nicer way of doing this? I have the following methods that I store in the ASPUtilities class: getRoleGUID(guid userGuid) { LINQ joins } getRoleGuid(string userName) { LINQ joins } getRoleName(guid roleGuid) { LINQ joins } Thank you EDIT: I have just looked into extending SQLMembershipProvider examples. Few examples completely override the SQLMembershipProvider, but I think what I'm interested is just adding few extra methods to deal with the roles by using LINQ. Is this feasible?

    I have developed my webservice in Java CXF which returns java.util.List. This webservice is password enabled. that means i have used org.apache.cxf.ws.security.wss4j.WSS4JInInterceptor for security purpose. Now i want to call this webservice from php. but i am not able to do so.   • ajax call to servlet puzzler

    Greetings! I'm having a problem getting a text value of a captcha from a servlet through ajax call. When my captcha gets created, its text value is written to session, but after refreshing the image itself though ajax call, I only get one old value of the text. Refreshing the image itself works ok, but I'm stuck getting the correct values from the session on subsequent call. On page reload I get both the new image and its new text value, no joy with ajax though.   • Passing sql results to views hard-codes views to database column names

    I just realized that i may not be following best practices in regards to the MVC pattern. My issue is that my views "know" information about my database Here's my situation in psuedo code... My controller invokes a method from my model and passes it directly to the view view.records = tableGateway.getRecords() view.display() in my view each records as record print record.name print record.address ... In my view i have record.name and record.address, info that's hard-coded to my database. Is this bad? What other ways around it are there other than iterating over everything in the controller and basically rewriting the records collection. And that just seems silly. Thanks

We thought the reason is due to amazon throttling the network connections over a limit. So, we tried to establish a connection after a random delay from each slave node. But, that didn't help. What I like about their comment system is that it's a simple open text field and once you click "Share" it then asks you to register.   • Pyramid.security: Is getting user info from a database with unauthenticated_userid(request) really secure?

    I'm trying to make an accesible cache of user data using Pyramid doc's "Making A “User Object” Available as a Request Attribute" example. They're using this code to return a user object to set_request_property: from pyramid.security import unauthenticated_userid def get_user(request): # the below line is just an example, use your own method of # accessing a database connection here (this could even be another # request property such as request.db, implemented using this same # pattern). dbconn = request.registry.settings['dbconn'] userid = unauthenticated_userid(request) if userid is not None: # this should return None if the user doesn't exist # in the database return dbconn['users'].query({'id':userid}) I don't understand why they're using unauthenticated_userid(request) to lookup user info from the database...isn't that insecure? That means that user might not be logged in, so why are you using that ID to get there private info from the database? Shouldn't userid = authenticated_userid(request) be used instead to make sure the user is logged in? What's the advantage of using unauthenticated_userid(request)? Please help me understand what's going on here.

When you set DataSourceID of GridView, assigned ObjectDataSource take care of such things as paging and sorting, but i don't have full control above databinding itself, on the other side when i set datasource of gridview in code-behind: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!IsPostBack) { testGridView.DataSource = testObjectDataSource.Select(); testGridView.DataBind(); } } Now i have full control, but i have lost the advantage of comfort sorting and paging. And that co-operation between ObjectDataSource and Gridview became mystery for me. So can anybody explain me in details how ObjectDataSource and Gridview co-operates under the hood? I want to understand it in order to write my own smart code or own gridview that will mimic this co-operation. Many thanks for answers.

  • Playing flash (.flv) videos on the web in a way that portable devices can view them

    A friend of mine has created a movie for my site, it's in .flv format. I've heard of the popular flash player called flowplayer, but I have a bad feeling such a player will not work on the ipad and other devices which do not support flash. Is there a way to play a video in the flash format through a non-flash player so that the content can be viewed on all devices? I'm open to any ideas. Perhaps I may even need to convert the video to another format somehow. Thanks for any help, Evan

The problem is that all items slide down together. I want to each number to display after short delay. It should not be much of problem for experienced jquery developers. How to do that?     Should I use oAuth, for example LinkedIn or Twitter, as my signin mechanism for my app? It seems that most apps just use oAuth to connect other services to it, but they make you set up your own user/password after you use oAuth (including StackOverflow), and I'm not really sure why this is.   • jQuery show hide divs on radio buttons

    I have got a group of radio buttons that when clicked need to display a corresponding unordered list. I have got as far as showing the correct list according to which radio button is clicked but cannot figure out how to hide the other lists that need to be hidden. So if i click the second benefits radion then the second 'spend' ul will display and the other 'spend' uls will hide.
