  • Simulating mouse clicks on Mac OSX does not work for some applications.

    Hi, I'm writing an App for Mac OSX 10.6 and later in C++. One part of theapp needs to simulate mouse movement and mouse clicks. I do this currently by posting CGEvent objects using CGEventPost(kCGHIDEventTap, event);. This works, for the msot part - I can simulate mouse movement and clicks just fine, but it seems to fail in some areas. For example: In Mozilla firefox & Safari, I can click on all the menus, but cannot click on a link within a website. When I try, the link is highlighted, but the browser never follows the link. However, I can right-click on a link, select "open link in new tab", and everything works as expected. I can click on the "Dashboard" icon to brink up the dashboard, but I cannot click on the "i" button on any of the dashboard widgets. This inconsistency is along application boundaries - Does anyone have any idea what the cause might be?

  • How to go to the next level integrating animations in WPF applications with Blend / VS2008?

    I have been able to create little animations with the storyline in Blend. And I have been able to copy in the isolated storylines and triggers into existing projects in visual studio to spruce them up on the edges a little bit. But after adding too many animations, they start to conflict or cancel each other out, etc., or I can make a panel slide down and slide it back up, then it no longer can slide down since it is not in its original state anymore. Does anyone have any links, video tutorials, books, resources which not only show you how to make a little animation and then leave you to figure out how to integrate numerous animations into a typical business application layout, but instead take you through the whole process of building a business application while integrating animations and WPF goodness with Blend and Visual Studio?

  • MySQL Workbench sends computer name with login not IP

    I am attempting to connect MySQLWorkbench to a remote MySQL Server. The server has granted access to user@IPAddress However, when I try to connect MySQLWorkbench, it sends user@computername instead. How do I configure the connection to use the IP address instead in MySQLWorkbench? Reference: The remote server is on the local network, so I need to use the local IP address assigned to my client. EDIT What I have tried so far: from the server: mysql -u user@IPAddress -p --host=(ServerIPAddress) Returns: mysql> So that tells me the user account is operational. Furthermore, I confirmed it exists using: select user from mysql.user; returning a table of all users, of which the user I am using is present. I have also opened the port 3306: sbin/iptables -A INPUT -i eth0 -s clientIPAddress -p tcp --destination-port3306 -j ACCEPT Still I encounter Access Denied

    I'm currently using the onboard sound on my Asus P6T6 WS Revolution motherboard (SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio) and was wondering if there was any way to make either windows or the audio drivers upscale 2-channel audio to 5-channel audio (basic duplication would suffice)? I was using a creative sound card but got fed up with the memory leaks and poor sound quality.

  • Can only "agents" build and submit Applications to Apple?

    I'm afraid I know the answer to this but I'll ask on the longshot chance that I'm wrong: I've been doing some freelance work creating an iPhone application for a company. They've created their own developer account and added me as an team member with "admin" rights. That seems to be the highest assignable rights (with the only higher level being "agent" and belonging only to whoever signed up for the account). Yet, I don't have an option under the provisioning portal to create a distribution certificate or profile. Is there any way to create these myself without having to ask my client for their primary login? They're not particulary tech savy so it would be difficult to walk them through the process to create the necessary certificates (and would require me giving them a certificate request from my computer, etc. etc.). But it seems like there should be some way to create a distribution build without "agent" rights, right? Could Apple seriously expect only one person from a company to do all the building and uploading of apps to the store?

  • What do I need to consider when buying hardware to meet my needs?

    I'm looking to build a new computer from the ground up. I'm not sure what to look out for and need guidance and help on how to pick the hardware needed to construct my new rig. How do I know what to buy? How do I find out if a given CPU will be enough for a certain game or application that I want to run? How do I find out if a given graphics card will be enough for a certain game or application? What is important when looking at motherboards? How much memory do I need? How do I know how much wattage I need for a power supply? What size case do I need? What relevant standards do I need to read up on and be aware of? PCI, PCIe, SATA, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, etc... What "gotchas" do I need to be on the lookout for? Please keep responses generation-agnostic to ensure they will be helpful to our future users. While Stack Exchange does not permit shopping recommendations, it doesn't provide any general advice to consider when buying hardware. So, instead of just telling those that ask what to buy that it's not allowed, let's tell them how to figure out what they need.   • What is the best approach towards styling GWT applications?

    General approach in GWT is to use Panels and then apply custom CSS themes to get a customized look. While I can achieve a certain extent of personalization of my GWT app through CSS tinkering, I was wondering how others generally approach styling. Some of the suggestions I came across the web were to manage layout with plain HTML, through use of HTMLPanel's. This way one can straightaway use the HTML mock-up within the application without having to code all the layout. So what in your opinion is the best and least painful way to approach layout and custom styling of GWT application?

    I've seen a couple threads here on SO that ask about what CAS is and how to use it.My specific is specifically focused on real-world usages of CAS. For example: DotNetNuke did some efforts in the past to be able to run under Medium Trust: is that still true? what is the % of DNN that run in partial trust (i.e. not full trust)? what & of DNN modules run in partial trust?) Sharepoint defaults to a Partially-Trusted environment on dlls executed from the bin folder: How many 'commercially' available WebParts can run in this bin folder (without changing the policy)? The key here is to be able to point to CAS success stories, so that other companies feel that they should also invest in writing CAS-enabled apps

  • Advantages/disadvantages of Glassfish v3 Prelude vs Springsource dm server for Web applications?

    Both of these appservers are at least in part OSGI based. One (Glassfish) is obviously J2EE while the other isn't. Now I'm at the stage of choosing a platform for a new project and the natural choice is Glassfish v3 Prelude. This does raise the issue of perhaps we should be using S2AP instead. The question then is this: does the springsource dm server offer any compelling reason to use it over Glassfish? And vice versa.

  • Will GTK's pango and cairo work well in Coca and MFC applications.

    I'm writing a GUI program and decided to go native on all platforms. But for all the stuff i need to draw myself i would like to use the same drawing routines because font and unicode handling is so difficult and complex. Do you see any negative points in useing Pango/Cairo. Well on MacOSX i havent succeded installing Pango/Cairo yet. Looks like a bad Omen.

    I was wondering if programming languages and frameworks get updated in small increments or are they just x.0 releases? And if they do how do you keep up on all the changes in every update? I am specifically interested in Objective-C and Cocoa and CocoaTouch. I'm learning from books and online PDF's etc, but often they are at best a few years old. I just would like to know if there have been any changes etc. that should concern me and even if not, inevitably there will be, so where can I look out for them?

  • Making GUI applications on Linux/Windows. What languages/tools to use?

    My student group and I are trying to continue working on a project we worked on this semester over the summer to become a professional, deployable app. We originally did it in Adobe AIR but it seems now that the computers this program will be running on will be very slow, maybe 600mhz and 128-256mb ram so flash just isn't going to cut it. It is basically a health diagnosis application that we will be shipping out to impoverished countries. Now comes the real question. We are wondering what language to rebuild our application in. It has to have a good gui builder associated with it, like adobe flex/air gui builder or visual studio's gui builder but the application should run on linux primarily, and if it can run on windows thats just a plus. We are all students too without really any outside help so whatever we decide to do this in there must be ample documentation available when we hit problems. Some things we have considered so far are using python and glade or c# and monodevelop, but again we really are not experts on any of this which is why I am asking for help as I would rather spend the time now choosing the right tools instead of wasting time down the line when we hit a roadblock.   • PDAnet on Android IP on PC is not public IP. Where does the NAT take place, PDAnet or Verizon?

    When using PDAnet on a PC (Win7 ultimate) to USB tether a Motorola Droid on Verizon 3G the IP address of the PC appears to be public - 64.245.171.115 (64-245-171-115.pools.spcsdns.net) - but connections show as coming from another public IP - 97.14.69.212 (212-sub-97.14.69.myvzw.com). Someone is performing Network Address Translation - either PDAnet or within the Verizon 3G network. Can someone tell me who is doing the NAT? Is it PDAnet or is it at Verizon? Is there any possibility of setting up port forwarding, such that connections to the public IP 97.14.69.212 (212-sub-97.14.69.myvzw.com) are forward to the PC? We are testing a network protocol that requires either a true public IP or forwarding a range of ports from the public Internet to the system on which the software runs (actually Linux hosted by VMware Player or Workstation on a PC running Windows).

Solved - creating the mouse event using CGEventCreateMouseEvent(...) makes the event work within web browser. I can click on the "Dashboard" icon to brink up the dashboard, but I cannot click on the "i" button on any of the dashboard widgets. Similarly, clicking on any of the search results from the spotlight search widget doesn't work either. This inconsistency is along application boundaries. What might be the cause?
