  I have a WPF application which runs as a excel plugin, it has its visual tree like so Excel ElementHost WPF UserControl WPF ribbon bar control Now any controls sitting on the WPF ribbon bar control are not enabled when the plugin is loaded within excel. See error below System.Windows.Data Error: 4 : Cannot find source for binding with reference 'RelativeSource FindAncestor, AncestorType='System.Windows.Window', AncestorLevel='1''. BindingExpression:Path=IsActive; DataItem=null; target element is 'Ribbon' (Name=''); target property is 'NoTarget' (type 'Object') If I nest the ribbon bar control in a standalone Window(outside excel) it works fine. Is there a way to intercept the FindAncestor call for a Window and wire it to something else.? Note that I cannot change the above binding as it isn't my control.

• Database theory - relationship between two tables

  I have a database with two tables - let's call them Foo and Bar. Each foo may be related to any number of bars, and each bar may be related to any number of foos. I want to be able to retrieve, with one query, the foos that are associated with a certain bar, and the bars that are associated with a certain foo. My question is, what is the best way of recording these relationships? Should I have a separate table with records of each relationship (e.g. two columns, foo and bar)? Should the foo table have a column for a list of bars, and vice versa? Is there another option that I'm overlooking? I'm using SQL Server, if that makes a difference.

  First of all, I wrote a simple php page, that picks up some variables from the POST parameters such as a query and a authentication string, and returns the result as xml. I intend to call this page with the WebClient class from a Silverlight application. I'm using POST because we are querying the database with any valid sql statement, not only select statements. The WebClient class uses the UploadDataAsync method to post to a http server, however it requires the post parameters be passed as a NameValueCollection. This class is missing in the Silverlight runtime. How do I proceed???

• WPF TreeView drag and drop using preview

  I'm handling drag and drop events in a TreeView using PreviewMouseDown, PreviewMouseMove and PreviewMouseUp, however, there is an issue. In my PreviewMouseDown handler, I set everything ready in case there's a drag started (detected in the Move event), however I set e.Handled = true. This means that standard selection events don't get generated on my tree! What I want to be able to do in my Up event is to invoke the standard treeview selection changed event - except I cannot call events outside of the tree. So what's the correct way to do this? I have tried using the standard MouseDown, MouseMove and MouseUp events however there's an issue with messing up my multiple selection feature that means I need to use the Preview version of those events.

  Hi all, I just started working using Google Maps API yesterday, and trying to set up drive directions to my map. My problem is: when I call the function load, [...] gdir = new GDirections(map, directionsPanel); [...] gdir.load("from: " + fromAddress + " to: " + toAddress); it returns a map whose markers are not draggable. So, I need to make them draggable in order to recalculate the directions, but I can't get the markers objects. Someone knows how can I do it? Thanks, Ivan.

  I have 2 programs (.exe) which I've created in .NET. We'll call them the Master and the Worker. The Master starts 1 or more Workers. The Worker will not be interacted with by the user, but it is a WinForms app that receives commands and runs WinForms components based on the commands it receives from the Master. I want the Worker app to run completely hidden (except showing up in the Task Manager of course). I thought that I could accomplish this with the StartInfo.CreateNoWindow and StartInfo.WindowStyle properties, but I still see the Client.exe window and components in the form. However, it doesn't show up in the taskbar. Process process = new Process { EnableRaisingEvents = true, StartInfo = { CreateNoWindow = true, WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden FileName = "Client.exe", UseShellExecute = false, ErrorDialog = false, } }; What do I need to do to let Client.exe run, but not show up?

  Hello, I have a message box pop up when a certain operation is being executed sort of "wait..." window and I want to have a "loading" *.gif animation there to lighten up the mood :) Anyways I can't seem to figure out how to make this work.   Hello, I have a class mapped as an Entity to persist it in a database. I have an id field as the primary key so every time the object is persisted the value of the id is retrieved from the sequence "myClass_pk_seq", a code like the following one. @Entity @Table(name="myObjects") public class MyClass { @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy=GenerationType.SEQUENCE, generator="sequence") @SequenceGenerator(name="sequence", sequenceName="myClass_pk_seq", allocationSize=1) @Column(name="myClassId") private Integer id; ... } I need to get the next value of the sequence myClass_pk_seq to reserve that value (get the next value of the sequence and the current value is incremented), but without saving the object.   this seems really simple but I haven't gotten this to work. I am building my app with grails on google app engine. This pretty much requires you to use JDO. I am making an HTTP call from flex to my app. The action that I am calling on the grails end looks like so def returnShowsByDate = { def query = persistenceManager.newQuery( Show ) def showInstanceList = query.execute() return (List<Show>) showInstanceList } I have tried just returning "hello from grails" and that works just fine. I have alos tried the following return showInstanceList the JDO docs say the query.execute() returns a collection. Why I cant just return that to Flex I have no clue. Any thoughts?

  Hi all, had anyone the same experiences with jquery ajax() and the beforeSend property??? And even better... any advice how to fix this problem ??? THX ;-) Actually what i am doing is reading from the database with an ajax call before i wanna sent the new data to the database via ajax (I deed to get to the last page of all comments). What happens is that beforeSend retrieves the data WITH the data which should be sent afterwards?!?!   i have written a custom mediastreamsource, that can play media from growing source files (mpeg transport streams). Once it reaches the end of its mediastream, it reads the new duration from the mediafile and continues to deliver samples. The MediaElement plays continously. Unfortunately i haven´t found a way to update the MediaElement.NaturalDuration property. Hence i cannot seek into the “reloaded” area, because ME doesn´t know about it and sets my position change to its NaturalDuration value. I tried to call ReportOpenMediaCompleted after getting the new stream length. Then Naturalduration get´s updated, but i cannot play anymore. Is there any other way to deal with it ?

  I am working on deploying a program and the codebase is a mixture of C++/CLI and C#. The C++/CLI comes in all flavors: native, mixed (/clr), and safe (/clr:safe). In my development environment I create a DLL of all the C++/CLI code and reference that from the C# code (EXE). This method works flawlessly. For my releases that I want to release a single executable (simply stating that "why not just have a DLL and EXE separate?" is not acceptable). So far I have succeeded in compiling the EXE with all the different sources. However, when I run it I get the "XXXX has stopped working" dialog with options to Check online, Close and Debug. If I tell Visual Studio to continue, the program starts up fine and seems to work without incident, probably since a debugger is now attached. What do you make of this? However since the heap corruption is fixed (by getting the CRT initialized) the question is done.

• NetBeans behaves differently if project is run via "Run Project" or build.xml>run

  I slightly modified the build-impl.xml file of my NetBeans project. (Specifically, I made it to insert build time into program code). If I run project via build.xml "run" target, I get behavior I expect - the program displays build time and date. But if I run project using standard (and most obvious, used it always) button "Run Main Project", I get totally another result (no build date). Moreover, if I insert any code into build.xml, I still get result if I run the target explicitly and no result if it is run simply by NetBeans. And this leads me to conclusion, that this button uses another method to run my application. My question is: what does that button do? What method does it call? And can it be configured to run the needed target of make file?

  Hi, I used the setContentOffset method to scroll to a particular point automatically without user interaction. [menuScrollView setContentOffset:CGPointMake(600.0,0) animated:YES] but when i try to call the same method in a looping fashion inorder to slow down the speed of scrolling the scrolling never happens for (int i = 1; i<=30; i++) { [menuScrollView setContentOffset:CGPointMake(600.0-i*10,0.0) animated:YES]; NSLog(@"%f",600.0-i*10); } During the above piece of code the scrolling of UIScrollview happens only once (1st iteration( and it does not scroll for remaining 29 interations. What is the problem here ?

  I'm trying to get the offset of a control relative to the top of its window, but I'm running into trouble when using the TransformToAncestor method of the control. Note: this code is in a value converter which will convert from a control to its relative Y position in relation to the window. public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, CultureInfo culture) { var ctrl = (Control) value; var win = Window.GetWindow(ctrl); var transform = ctrl.TransformToAncestor(win); // Exception thrown here. var pt = transform.Transform(new Point(0, 0)); return pt.Y; } The call to Window.GetWindow works just fine, and returns the correct window object inside which the control resides. Am I misunderstanding what WPF thinks of as an "ancestor"? I would think that given the result of GetWindow, that window would be an ancestor of the control. Are there certain nesting patters that would cause the line of ancestry to be cut off at a certain point?

  I have a scenario in which I have REST API which manages a Resource which we will call Group. A Group is similar in concept to a discussion forum in Google Groups. Now I have two GET access method which I believe needs separate representations. The 1st GET access method retrieves the minimal amount of information about a Group. Given a *group_id* it should return a minimal amount of information like { group_id: "5t7yu8i9io0op", group_name: "Android Developers", is_moderated: true, number_of_users: 34, new_messages: 5, icon: "http://boo.com/pic.png" } The 2nd GET access method retrives summary information which are more statistical in nature like: { group_id: "5t7yu8i9io0op", top_ranking_users: { [ { user: "george", posts: 789, rank: 1 }, { user: "joel", posts: 560, rank: 2 } ...] }, popular_topics: { [ ... ] } } I want to separate these data access methods and I'm currently planning on this design: GET /group/:group_id/ GET /group/:group_id/stat Only the latter will return the statistical information about the group. What do you think about this ?

  Im learning Mockito and in chapter 16 they say you should not use partial mocking in new system. I disagree, for example in one of my actions i use partial mocking for static framework methods, sql calls, etc. I extracted the stuff into methods and then mock it in tests. Most of those methods are specific to this action and wont be call from other actions, so it not worth to extract special components. I agree that you shouldn't using partial mocking in frameworks, but not in hard to mock actions. What are minuses of using partial mocking in web-app?

  I'm attempting to add an OpenGL view (such as the one given in Apple's sample code) as the detail view of an iPad's splitview but am running into issues. I've taken the sample code from the base OpenGL project and attempted to add it as a subview of my DetailViewController - ie EAGLView *glview = [[EAGLView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,100,100)] but when I add it to the main view and call startAnimating on it, nothing at all happens. Any solutions to this? I have never worked with OpenGL before so perhaps I'm doing this all wrong.
