• Multiple Schedule/Task Views (devs, customer, etc) in MS Project (or other)

  Is there a way to configure multiple views/filters in MS Project for the same set of tasks? I want to have a view that is configured for customer's only, for example. So, it would have large milestone tasks only, and hide all of the details that are there for the benefit of the team members. If MS Project doesn't do this, is there any project management software that does? A free/open source version would be preferable. Edit: Apparently, "filter" was the word I needed in my Google searches. I found how to mark a task as a Milestone and use the pre-made Milestone filter. However, that still doesn't hide non-Milestone tasks the way I want it to. I haven't figured out how to make a true custom filter.

• Windows NT workstation on AD domain

  We run a Windows NT workstation connected to special manufacturing equipment, that everyone is deathly afraid to touch. It has custom software and special cards inside of the machine, making a rebuild impossible. The problem is, we are migrating to an AD domain from an NT domain, and this workstation stills needs access to storage on the network (AD computers). How should I go about doing this, after we get rid of our NT Domain controller? Upgrading to 2000 is not an option (so says management). I know, I know, if it dies we are in trouble. But that's managements choice, we just need to get rid of this NT domain.

  My server has several public IPs, and is running a bunch of virtual machines with private IP adresses. As an example, I want to map ports 80, 443 and 8080 on 232.21.23.23 (public) to 192.168.122.12 (private). I have tried a couple of different NAT mappings, but none of them seem to work: # This doesn't work. DNAT net loc:192.168.122.12 tcp 80,443,8080 - 232.21.23.23 # Neither does this. • Enter key on Mac OS X renames files instead of launching

  On my Mac when I hit the "enter" key on a file on my desktop or in the finder, it enters the "rename file" mode. 1) How do you actually "launch" or "open" (i.e. double click) the file with only the keyboard? In Windows, the Enter key does this. 2) Is there a way to map the Enter key to do this in Mac instead of rename? Honestly, it makes little sense to me. I mean, how often do you rename something? Once, maybe. How often do you open something? Lots and lots of times.

• Upgrade MySQL on Plesk on Windows

  I just got a nasty surprise when I installed a website in Unicode Hindi (Indian language) on a server, all freshly entered unicode data is turning into question marks on the server. On my dev machine it works perfectly. I found that I have MySQL version 5.0.45 (installed in default by Plesk I guess). On my dev machine i have version 5.1.33. I believe the problem could be due to the version difference. The new version of MySQL apparently has better support for Unicode than the older one. I want to upgrade MySQL on my Windows Server machine with Plesk installed on it I am reluctant to just install the new version using the mysql installer because Plesk maintains some custom settings for mysql and I am afraid the new version could change those settings and break my db. Can anyone tell me do I have to do anything special to install MySQL on plesk on windows or can I just use the new version installer?

• Error adding 4tb LUN (Raw Device Mapping) to ESX4 VM

  Hi guys, I'm trying to map an existing 4tb LUN from a Fibre Channel SAN, through to a VM in my ESX4 environment. It keeps telling me that the VMDK file size exceeds the the maximum size supported by the datastore. I've tried in Physical compatibility mode, and also both Virtual styles. I'm a little confused by this as we had the same LUN mapped through to another VM when we were running ESX3.5... I've also noticed that some of my other RAW mappings are generating extremely large VMDK files on the ESX servers. Does anyone know if this change in behaviour is intentional? And if so why? It doesn't seem to me that if the LUN is mapped directly to the VM that it's size should be relevant. We're running 4.0.0 build 236512, and 4.0.0 build 219382 and I've not had any success on either. Any insight or advice would be much appreciated! TG

• What causes winsock 10055 errors? How should I troubleshoot?

  I'm investigating some issues with winsock 10055 errors on a chain of custom applications (some of which we control, some not) and was hoping to get some advice on techniques to troubleshoot the problem. No buffer space available. An operation on a socket could not be performed because the system lacked sufficient buffer space or because a queue was full. From research, non-paged pool and ports seem to be the only resources which can cause this error. Is there another resource which might cause 10055 errors? Currently, we have perfmon counters setup on the applications and non-paged pool usage looks low in most circumstances. Open TCP connections looks low and I am unaware of another way to monitor ports. Since it only happens in production, we are unable to use more invasive counters. Is there some other tool or procedure you would recommend to diagnose which application is causing the issue?

I have a USB drive that I want to backup to. But how do refer to the USB drive in the batch file. I cannot seem to map a drive to it, It is called "H on Malcolm-Desktop" in windows explorer. • CD/DVD burn error in ImgBurn and Nero

  I am getting the errors shown below when I try to burn a CD/DVD on my DVD writer. I am seeing this error for every CD/DVD I try to burn. I am not able to write any CDs or DVDs using ImgBurn. • IIS is overriding my response content, if i manually set the Response.StatusCode

  Hi Folks, Problem when i manually set the HTTP Status of my Response stream to .. say 404 or 503, IIS renders up the stock IIS content/view, instead of my custom view. When I do this with the Web Development Server (aka. Casinni), it works correctly (ie. my content is displayed and the response.statuscode == my entered data. Is there anyway I can override this behaviour?   I set up a website with my own custom PHP code. It appears that people from places like Ukraine are trying to hack it. They're trying a bunch of odd accesses, seemingly to detect what PHP files I've got. They've discovered that I have PHP files called mail.php and sendmail.php, for instance. They've tried a bunch of GET options like: http://mydomain.com/index.php?do=/user/register/ http://mydomain.com/index.php?app=core&module=global§ion=login http://mydomain.com/index.php?act=Login&CODE=00 I suppose these all pertain to something like LiveJournal? Here's what's odd, and the subject of my question. They're trying this URL: http://mydomain.com?3e3ea140 What kind of website is vulnerable to a 32-bit hex number?

• VSS Not Creating Shadow Set

  I'm trying to setup backup scripts on WinXP to use Volume Shadow Sets. I downloaded the VSS 7.2 SDK from MSFT, and used the include vshadow.exe to create a shadow set: vshadow -script=vss-setvar.cmd f: (note that I've tried both f: and c:) vshadow executes just find, giving no errors, reporting the shadow is created. However, executing vshadow -q as the very next command results in "There are no shadows on the system" and, indeed, if I use dosdev to try and map the Shadow set named in vss-setvar.cmd, it will not work. Am I missing a step?

Its a Master ans Slave method. Assume DNS Servers are: ns1.customdnsserver.com [192.168.91.129] ==> Master ns2.customdnsserver.com [192.168.91.130] ==> Slave Now i will host few shared hosting websites in my own web server. Where i will link above Nameservers to my domains in shared hosting. My Question is: How do i tell root DNS servers about my own authoritative only DNS server? So that when someone queries for domain www.example.com and if the domain's website is hosted in my shared hosting i want root servers to point the query to my own DNS Server so that the www.example.com get resolved for IP address.

• Windows 8 Radeon update broke some games

  I've been using Windows 8 Consumer Preview 32-bit on my desktop for months, and recently did a software update through Windows Update. An update for my Radeon HD 5450 driver (Catalyst) to WDDM 1.2 was in the list of updates, and installed. When I went to play CS:GO and discovered that when loaded, it would not display the GUI (menus, sometimes even the background) after a few seconds of flickering GUI. I can still navigate the menus 'by feel' and connect to and play on servers, but have no GUI, no buy menu, no map, no cross-hairs, no health indicator, etc. I have tried CS:S, which works, and Borderlands, which doesn't even load the intro videos before the first menu screen. I've tried re-installing Catalyst from the AMD website, and the beta, and tried uninstalling and reinstalling CS:GO. The problem with it (and Borderlands) still happen. What broke, and how can I fix it? I'll be reinstalling soon anyway to dump Windows 8 back to 7, but would like to be able to game until then.

• Ideas for campus Internet Login mechanism?

  Hello, I work at this university and I'm seeking an effective solution for an internet login mechanism. We have a leased-link at our campus, which is shared by both staff & students. All systems (desktops + laptops + handhelds) connect to the internal network via wifi and can then get onto the net. However, a local govt. regulation requires us to keep track of individual internet usage and hence we need a solution (pref. free / opensource) that'll enable us to implement some sort of an authentication mechanism once a user hooks onto the network. One requirement is that the software should be able to authenticate either against LDAP or some other custom user database (MySQL based) or both. Can anyone suggest any such software or mechanism? Most of our servers are Linux based... so something that runs off such a platform will be good. Thanks, m^e

  I have an upstart script that will start a custom jetty server. When I do sudo start [myservice] nothing happens. Subsequently, sudo status [myservice] show it as: [myservice] start/killed, process 3586. When I start it, I just get a hang, until I ^C. Also, I tried running it with strace but that gave me a lot of stuff about sockets.

• Can't get PHP Errors in IIS7.5

  I've tried the previously answered questions regarding this to no avail. Just installed PHP5 and IIS on my Windows 7 machine and I'm having trouble getting PHP Errors displayed instead of 500 Errors. In PHP; error_reporting = E_ALL display_errors = On In IIS I have htmlErrors set to Detailed which shows a detailed IIS 500 Error page. If set to Custom it shows a basic 500 Error page. If I set it to PassThrough I get a blank page (view-source reveals no code). My PHP log file is showing a Fatal PHP Runtime Error.

  I want to use google.com instead of google.com.hk as my default search engine in Chrome. I tried to use custom search engine, but they all break search suggestions, not even something like https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=%s&{google:RLZ}{google:acceptedSuggestion} {google:originalQueryForSuggestion}{google:assistedQueryStats} {google:searchFieldtrialParameter}sourceid=chrome&ie={inputEncoding} which include parameters like acceptedSuggestion that seems to imply seach suggestions being enabled. But no, search suggestions still don't work. In addition. some websites suggest editing Local State file under Chrome's setting folder. I already tried that, and it didn't work at all. So, is there any way to use google.com as default search engine without breaking search suggestions?

• Can you use a USB dongle inside a VMWare ESX Virual Machine?

  Howdy, I need to know if a USB dongle that is required as a license key for a piece of software will accessible from the physical host machine. This will be a small vSphere 4 installation targeting the quick backup and system restore capabilities of VMWare, not specifically HA, so I am not to worried about the virtual machine automatically failing over to another physical machine and the dongle not being accessible.   I've been assigned to research out and spec replacing our old and decrepit http content filtering system. There are several open source filtering packages available but I've not come across one that does SSL inspection. The new system will scale to many branches of different sizes, from say 10 users to a few hundred, so purchasing an appliance for each branch isn't desirable. When we're further along, we will do custom programming as we have a few unique needs in other aspects of filtering, so if the suggestion takes a bit of customization, it won't be a problem.

  I have created a Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 presentation (a .ppt file) on Windows XP that contains a lot of animation, using PowerPoint's Custom Animation tools. I would like to share this presentation -- animations and all -- with a colleague who has a Mac computer and does not have PowerPoint or Keynote. Is it possible to make a "movie" from my .ppt file that contains a lot of animation? I recall that another colleague once made me a QuickTime "movie" from a PowerPoint file, I think (although I do not remember whether he made it using Windows or Mac). On this "movie," clicking advanced the animation/slide, just as clicking would do in an actual PowerPoint presentation. In that sense, it was not really strictly a movie, since I could interact with it by clicking. Do you know how to make such an interactive "movie" from a PowerPoint 2003 presentation (a .ppt file)?   I've upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 beta 1 and PHP got upgraded from 5.2 to 5.3 Now all my WordPress & Magento sites arent working. I tried retrieving the URL headers from the command line, but HTTP request fails. Utilizing get_headers in a small script, PHP Warning: get_headers(http://local.vhosts1.com): failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! in get_headers.php on line 12 But HTTP request fails only for WordPress and Magento based sites - not custom written ones. Does this probably have to do with some htaccess directive ?

• Installation of large programs in OSX.

  A few newbie OSX questions: Despite the fact that most applications can be installed by dragging them to the Applications directory, some software still requires the creation of a separate program folder. Where should I put this folder? Does it matter? Is the Applications directory special somehow, or is it just a convenient folder with a custom icon? If I move one of these program folders later on, will the program still work? Will shortcuts to files in the folder break? Is there something similar to a registry in OSX? Thanks!

• Sharp flat panel scaling with Nvidia drivers

  I have a Samsung 226BW flat panel with a 1680x1050 native resolution. As my PC is rather dated (Athlon XP 2600+ and GeForce 6600 GT), I need to run more recent games (but still old) on a lower resolution. Unfortunately, scaling low resolutions to 1680x1050 results in a very blurry image (bilinear scaling). I have created a custom resolution of 840x525 in the Nvidia control panel. Technically, this resolutions allows perfect upscaling to 1680x1050 without the need for bilinear interpolation. Unfortunately, the Nvidia driver always seems to do bilinear scaling, again resulting in a blurry image. However, I seem to remember that I did obtain crisp images using this resolution in the past (before a Windows re-install). Maybe only some driver versions support integer upscaling without bilinear filtering? Or perhaps there are other solutions?
